guild wars wasnt an mmorpg. that's like saying planetside was everquest with guns.
now that the overseas parent company of this game is exerting more influence you're lucky it hasnt changed to f2p item mall status.
and quite frankly the level of maturity of the average FREE GAME Player is quite low. the game is better off with a subscription model

this game has had one paid-for expansion in 5 years. and even then it was purely optional.
how many has guild wars had? do the math
if they were going to shut the game down, i would be all for it. however, should anyone decide to run their own servers anyone joining would need to make sure their version matched. I can see the mods now- pure chaos.
on the other hand, I dont mind 30$ a month. devs need to eat too!

$15 a month? Yes, it does cost money. However, in terms of $/ entertainment hour, I find it quite worth it.
Continously updated, additional content added, and a staff that does great stuff.
Things that have monthly subscription fees:
Magazine subscriptions
Cable TV
Cell Phones/Blackberries/iPhones, etc
Internet Access
If the service/access is worth it to you, pay it. If not, stop.
With CoH/CoV, your stuff is never erased. You can come back YEARS later, and your heroes and villains will be as you left them (although you may have to rename the low level ones)
Buying in larger time blocks, 3 months, six months, 1 year nets a larger discount.

the only drawback I can think of pertaining to this game is how Cryptic dropped the damn ball. For how long did they have like 8 people working on the game?
When that was happening... They should have been working on tons of new stuff... but, they couldnt because Cryptic sux Newts.
I think we would have seen some neat stuff if Jack was on the team the whole time (just not in charge...).
