Besides, people aren't leaving because of the closing of "exploits" (Meows? Not an exploit. Snake Eggs and the Vanguard Ouroboros flashback? Those are exploits.), they're leaving because of how badly the entire situation was handled.

I just wanted to say QFT.

We can debate about whether or not we believe MEOW farms should or should not be counted as an exploit (personally I am on the fence on the issue, it may or may not be an "exploit" but it was certainly an abuse of the system), however the biggest issue is not what was done so much as how it was done. In my opinion it was handled very badly.

Why is everyone (well half of you ) against me for posting this. I posted to learn a little more about freaks and to see if this was ok to do or not cause I didn't want to get banned for doing these missions . I'm sorry for all the trouble that I have caused and I will try to not post stuff like this again

lol ^^ It's okay don't even worry about it. Forum posters flock to threads like this. I'd worry more about programs that help make AE missions OUTSIDE of the City of Heroes program. If you get caught using them to make mission, you can get banned. And for good reason........ GOOD REASON.

I'd say go ahead and farm Freakshow, but avoid arcs that are obviously exploits. You'll know it when you see it.

Why are we against you for posting this? Really?

Maybe because the Devs have told us, even before the MA was out, that it was not to be used for framing. They've told us several times since it's been released the same thing. They've taken action against people who have ignored this.

We've been inundated with threads about farming in the MA, and with threads dealing with the outcome of farming in the MA. We've had an official thread dealing with farming, and that STILL didn't prevent threads from popping up everywhere.

In short, we're tired of farming MA threads.

But, more specifically, your thread is akin to this:

The police tell everybody that it's illegal to steal cars. People have been protesting that that should be allowed to steal cars. The police ignore it and arrest people stealing cars. People who have been arrested are very vocal about their arrests for stealing cars. The police AGAIN tell people that it's illegal to steal cars. Then you stand outside the police station, with police officers around, and ask a passerby if they think it's okay to steal a Ford instead of a Nissan.

A large map with level 50+ Freakshow is NOT an exploit.

The Juicers still fly and have powerful melee attacks.
The Stunners still stun, and fly to melee with powerful melee attacks.
Both still attack with energy and still sap endurence.
Swipers still have their ranged attack.
Smashers still stun, and hit hella hard in melee.
Boss Freaks still use grenedes, or saw blade attacks from range, as well as hit hella hard melee.
Freaks all still use Dull Pain, and self rez at times making them extra hard to bring down.

While not as difficult as SOME foe groups like Malta, Rularuu, and KoA, they are by no means "easy meat". They are on a par with Council and CoT.

[/ QUOTE ]

QFT. What gives Freaks is appeal that they can get up so you can beat them down again. Twice the risk, twice the reward. It's the same as a normal canon mission. The XP is not out of proportion, they're not being bent out of shape into a custom group. There's no imbalance in risk/reward and thus no exploit.

To paraphrase Positron, if you like Freakolympics....

You know, I never thought about this, but with the vanguard loophole, and the dev's not closing it up during that double xp weekend .... I actually went from lvl 1 to 50 in 8 hours on a toon. and made 3 other toons from 20ish to 46 ... Why not action back then?

Freaks are not the new meow. they offer no where near the same of XP/min that you could achieve with the comm officers are any level. The broken or the regular.

It is not the mobs that are broken its the methods used in building the maps. The same features that give you lots of flexibility with mission design can be used to game the system and maximize reward.

To be honest they can nerf the mobs all day long but its never going to change that fact that you can level all the way to 50 without ever leaving Atlas or Cap. A huge portion of the time saved and the increased XP/Min is because you never have to travel to a mission, run to a contact or do a leg mission just for mission bonus.

If your getting XP 95% of the time your logged in instead of 40% you are going to level dramatically faster. At this point running MA is not much faster then grinding out kill all ITFs from 35-50, its just easier to find a team.

The devs are fighting a loosing battle here. People are figuring out new and better way to build these maps fast enough to make your head spin. They nerf one and you just move along to the next. They'll have to nerf the system into obscurity to stop the farming.

I don't think NCSoft corporate will keep supporting this itteration of the Dev team if they keep loosing players at the current rate. Issue 15 looks flat at best and the little oops of early news about Going Rogue isn't going to stop a large portion of this player base from at least checking out the coming competition in September.

The sad thing is that I don't think they really care. They really believe that 5 years of old content is going to overcome the brand new shiney. Sure folks will flock back when GR drops but how many of them are gonna stay after the devs screw that up and the novelty wears off.

No, but you're exceedingly late to that party.

Freaks were farmed constantly long before the MA appeared because, as a group, they're "relatively easier" at a higher level compared to other potential foes, they give bonus XP per defeat, and they have a chance to step back up so you can knock them down again to gain even more XP.

If you think a Freak farm is "the new meow" you haven't been playing this game for very long.

Sorry, but asking what the newest exploit is isn't "trying to learn the game". It's "trying to learn how to cheat".

[/ QUOTE ]
Oddly enough his sig indicates he has a level 50 Fire/Fire Tank.
Back in the day, getting to 50 ( with the exception of AR/Dev) took enough time to actually gain experience with the game.
Which begs the question, if you have a non farmed 50, why is it that you need to learn the game?

That depends very much on what day you're going back to. You used to be both much more powerful and able to affect a lot more mobs at once. Generally, the devs have been slowly reducing player character power (up until around I9) while adding prodecural ways to level faster at essentially the same time.

Frankly, there have been ways to get to level 50 way faster than would let a n00b figure out the game throughout the game's history. There was a guy who hit the original level cap in about two days after pre-release.
