  1. Hey guys,

I have a fire/fire tanker that is my main toon and I am wanting to respec him. I have a little bit over 1B influence that I can spend on him.

    Goals:
    • Farming (Freaks and Fire Farm)
    • Tanking (Basically not get hammered while I do iTrials etc.)

Below, I've posted my current build, my attempt at bettering my current build and lastly a build that I have focused on smashing/lethal/melee defence. My current build is actually pretty good I find. I don't die to often but it is lacking on the recharge aspect for farming. I really like how my new build is looking and I really want to try it, but that's only if it makes it past the critiquing of my fellow tankers.

I should also mention that I have the top tier cardiac (end reduction) alpha slot and I also have the first tier ion (electricity) judgement slot.

Current Build (defence is kind of everywhere...)
    http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...71FD0F1BEDEA84

Revised Current Build (I don't really like this one)
    http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...B8FE07F038E7F2

New Build (focused one smashing/lethal/melee defence)
    http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...0DFD0BC41FD70F

I really want to focus on the new build and make any changes there if need be but I sort of want to distance my self from my old build.

As long as you don't act like a PITA by harassing people with PL/Farm me messages, no one will care if you do either.

1 starring is done by right clicking on a character name in the chat box and selecting Notes. You get a window that let's you rate a player from 1-5 stars and add a personal note to remind you why you gave the player that rating. The number of stars you gave that player will then appear over every character on that players account when you see them That way you can easily spot people you want to avoid or you love teaming with. Only you can see the stars and notes you've assigned to other people.
    Wise words...

I was looking into it for my own personal PLing of my toons and maybe doing some farming. I'm not one to bug others furiously and waste their time.

As for farming, I'd mostly agree with Stargeek, but, I'd add that over time, unless the higher diff mishes are noticeably ahead XP/sec, I'd go with the lower diff. Living close to teh edge might get ya more /sec for a while, but a bad break that needs a hosp will shoot your average down. Faster is better, generally. Both in tickets, and XP, and in drops for you in the meanwhile. And I'd not disregard the value of drops along the way. Unless you're so stupid wealthy that you can just throw boatloads of loot and swag away.

And if you are, feel free to throw some my way... A few purples, or some PVP IOs, or a couple bil inf. I'm not picky.

Edit: Of course, if you're not worried about getting the absolute max XP/sec, the higher diff might well be more fun/entertaining/challenging/brag-worthy... And that's not a consideration to totally disregard. If it's more fun, and will hold your interest longer, you'll get much more in the long run...
If I was a gazillionaire (recently just hit my first billion) I would so inclined to throw my fortunes at you, sadly I am not.

Thanks for your knowledge on the subject though!

+4/x8. The reaons some people stop at a certain point is for Architecht Entertainment mission tickets. You can only earn so many per mission and +4/x8 will obliterate your ticket maximum long before you clear a map. Depending on what your character can handle and how quickly they can handle it, it may be better to defeat more enemies which are weaker to get tickets faster. For a PL it's just about experience though, AFAIK.

Thanks to both of you, that makes sense for the tabs. I used to know how to do this but its been too long...

I currently have this mission, Unai Kemen's Council Empire farm (that's the one with 20 glowies, BTW), and Harvey Maylor's demon farm, all located in DA on two different characters.
I have this exact same problem with Unai Kemen's freakshow farm! I wonder if it's ever going to be reverted back to normal or if we just have to deal with it. I mean it's not really a big fuss but I just like the overall atmosphere of Perigrine Island then I do of Dark Astoria...
  6. Right now, my league chat messages arrive in the top box of my chat window, how do I switch it around to be on the bottom one. And further more, how do I choose which chats I want to appear in the top box and which ones I want to appear in the bottom box.

Example of what I mean when I say top box/bottom box/ chat window. Yellow equates to top box and red mimics the bottom box.

I purchased a City of Heroes Freedom™ VIP Starter Kit A while ago and was wondering if I activated it and referred my main account, if I would get 1 free month VIP on my currently VIP main account. Would this happen?

I'm not too sure how well the topic of power levelling goes over on the forums due to being away for quite some time and just had a quick question about it. If I were to power level my own toons, would it be better to go with +4/x8 or +0/x8, or maybe somewhere in between?

Sorry for the many questions, but I appreciate your responses.

To keep the mission (Warrior Farm) and do HER other missions, as in finish the flashback arc or no other missions period?
  9. Hey all,

I'm currently doing missions for Maria Jenkins trying to get the Save Warrior Clan’s Village (AKA Warrior Farm) mission and I have a couple questions...

I've completed the mission ark for her and got the Statesman's Pal and Agent badge for doing it and I've also been assigned a couple random missions from her and have completed them, when should I be given the Warrior Farm mission?

I checked paragon wiki for info on Maria Jenkins and can't even find the Save Warrior Clan’s Village (AKA Warrior Farm) mission. Was it taken out of the game or something? It seems like I've done at least 20 missions for her and it still hasn't come up. Just curious...

EDIT: And I know I wouldn't of accidently completed it because apparently it has 15 glowies?

    *Sigh*...

It happened again. After the fix It loaded my toon into Dark Astoria fine. I then did a quick Lambda Trial and after it finished, I clicked exit and it brought me back to the loading screen where it froze again. I did the fix once again and then it worked. It seems that the fix only works for one use then it breaks again. I guess I'll be contacting support but I might try a fresh install first.

I was running the 12.1 drivers for AMD. My video card is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series for a laptop. I then updated to 12.4 drivers (which are supposedly stable) and there sees to be no difference.

EDIT: Finished the fresh install and it seems to of fixed the problem. Hopefully it will stay stable. I'll keep this thread updated if the problem persists and if it does I will be contacting support and then posting the real fix on here.
  11. Will do the consistency check first and if it fixes the problem, I'll post back here. If not, I'm contacting support. Thanks for the quick reply.

EDIT: Consistency check fixed the issue. Thanks for suggesting it (I forgot about being able to do that).
  12. I tried to warp into Dark Astoria for the first time ever and the loading screen froze at half way and then the game eventually stopped/crashed and gave me "CoH has stopped working" prompt. I logged the toon again after I restarted the game and the same thing happened. I can't even log into this toon anymore cause it keeps happening again and again. Any suggestions? thanks

Other than the defense, your survivability will come from killing everything before it kills you.
Understood, I whipped up a quick build with 48.X% ranged defence but its going to cost about 1B Oh well, gotta do whatcha gotta do eh?

    New To Blasters!

    Hey Guys,

I'm just starting to play a blaster that is Elec/Mental and am enjoying a lot. I'm normally found playing melee characters such as my Fire/Fire tank, my Claws/SR scrapper, my Elec/WP brute and my FF/Arch Defender but here's the thing; all of these characters have high defence and can stand on their own. I was fooling around in Mids and found that blasters don't really get much of anything besides damage. Am I just not seeing the defence aspect to a blaster or is there not one. So I guess my question is:

What should I be expecting from my new Elec/Mental blaster? What should I be focused on when slotting enhancements and choosing powers? Should I even worry about defensive powers (hover, combat jumping, fighting power set etc.)?

    Thanks

If you want it to permanently lower the FPS whenever CoH is in the background, you would need to go into the settings of the NC Launcher and add the additional parameter -maxinactivefps 1 to it (in addition to enabling the option to allow multiple copies of the game to be able to run multiple copies of the game).

The processor and RAM are fine, although I think your video card might be on the sluggish end for it. I'd suggest just trying it and seeing if you get acceptable performance. If it lags/stutters, just lower stuff.
    Thanks for the reply!
  16. If I were to run 2 instances of CoH, I read that it is a good idea to input the following code for the 1 instance that you are not playing:

    /MaxInactiveFps - 1

First off, is this the right code? Next, after I exit that instance of CoH and then start it up again in the future will it be back to normal or will i need to revert it back manually?

    Thanks

    EDIT: My current Laptop Specs are;
    -i5-540m 2.53Ghz (dual core - turbo to 3.X)
-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series (1GB card)
-4GB of DDR3 1333Hz (upgrading to 8GB same speed in the next week)
    -Windows 7 x64

Are these ok to run 2 instances?
  17. Thanks a lot for all of the advice guys, I'm taking into account everything that everyone has said and am pretty sure that I am going to start reforming my tanker so that he has hit a few soft caps.
  18. My Fire/Fire tank who is also my main is my favourite toon to play on. I've spent quite a bit of influence on him and his build has gone through quite the number of respecs. I've finally come to a build that I really like playing. It allows me to tank on trials, TFs, Farms and AEs. And if I do die, I just RoTF and I'm right back in it, although I rarely do die. I also dish out quite the beating and can take out mobs pretty fast. The occasional time I do have to use a purple inspiration to get through without dying but all in all I love my tank. I was wondering if you guys would be able to critique my build and let me know if I can improve it in any way, I know he's not the best Fire/Fire tanker in CoH, he's not even close but I think my tanker is pretty awesome. He has the tier 4 Cardiac alpha slot also and due to this I NEVER run low on END so keep that in mind.

    Here is my build:

Should of realized to do that, sorry.

Fix: I Un-installed all of my video card drivers, re-downloaded and re-installed. Possibly the easiest fix ever and I shouldn't of posted without attempting. MY BAD!
  20. Sorry, I found a fix. Thanks PS is there any way to delete threads?
  21. After the update for my video card, I believe it's the Catalyst Control Center V11.9 update, my health, endurance and loading bars seem to have "no graphics" or in other words plain white rectangles. Does anyone else have this issue and if so are there any fixes?

    Thanks

The RAM you linked to is fine, assuming you can remove all the existing RAM from your laptop and put in the new stuff.
    I will check now.
  23. I did upgrade to 11.9 and still have the problems. The launcher exits after I launch and also I have steam/other programs exited/shutdown also. It leads me to think that it's the ram because if I alt-tab out of CoH and open my Internet browser then go back into the game it's either in it's "not responding" state or it will crash in the next 30 seconds. It's only if I play on higher graphics settings instead of lower but if I am playing on lower and then launch my browser, it tends to crash.
  24. Hi,

I've just came back to CoH and have been experiencing "not responding" errors where the game freezes and when I go the the task manager says "city of heroes - not responding" then I have to restart the game. This only happens if I am playing on the 3rd graphics settings, if I put it down to the 2nd graphic settings (worse graphics) then it doesnt crash. Also the crashing is usually happeens in big teams such as trials, ship raids, Hami, tf's so this is why I'm thinking that my laptop is running out of memory. I currently have 4 gbs of ddr3 1333mhz memory and it's also equipped with a 1gb ati video card and an i5 processor. So this is my question, can I buy this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...179&CatId=4153 and then put that in my laptop and the crashing should go away? I'm running win7 x64 so my system will read the extra memory. This memory also has the same exact specs (size/speed) as my currently memory.

    So, what's the verdict? Thanks

I do have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series and on the login screen it said that I had out-dated drivers so I installed new drivers completely up to date and then the message on the login screen went away, then the freezing started. So downgrade to the 11.4 version drivers of my graphics card you say? I guess I could give that a shot. Thanks
