Thanks so much Mauk,
I was kinda bumming about my performance, but yoiu are right it was the stunners that were stomping me, and thats mostly because I considered them the highest threat and would always engage them first, other team members didnt prioritize them.
I feel better about my Brute now. =).
Have you ever taken hand clap?
I was thinking it would be a nice utility power, to help protect the blasters if they pull aggro, or to take that one group too many out of action for a bit.
what are your thoughts? -
Returning player looking for some advice
I have a SS/FA Brute that is 26, But I'm not sure I shouldnt have gone Tank instead of Brute.
I just did the Sister Psyche TF last night and felt like I was more squishy than the Blasters and PBs! NOT GOOD. The Super Stunners were making mincemeat out of me. I'm pretty sure a respec will solve some of my issues, but I also want to make sure I'm on the right track, perhaps a Tank would have been a better choice. It could also be that I was just playing stupid last night and I'm allowing it to color my opinion of my Char.
I have some questions.
What are the real in game differences between Brutes and Tanks for survivability and damage?
What about damage between a Tank and a Brute with only half fury does the Brute still come out ahead?
How much survivability do I lose by going Brute vs Tank, how much damage do I gain?
These are kind of fuzzy logic questions I know, but they do have a point, honest.
Here is where they start making some sense....
How much extra survivability can build into Brute if I build him right? Or is it more of a Scrapper thing, the best defense is a good offense?
How much can I build into a tank or how much would I need to build into a tank? -
Returning player looking for help to build a NON FARMING SS/FA/EM.
My SS/FA Brute is 26, and I am having end issues.

I'm also looking for a non farming SS/FA build, I was feeling distinctly squishy last night.
He's only level 26 but I am going to respec him to get tough and weave sooner. -
Just out of curiosity
whats the current thinking vis a vis
WP vs INV for Brutes
Are they close? Does one pull away?
Thanks -
Just out of curiosity have any tankers noticed the bruising effect has greatly reduced the time they spend taking out foes?
Because of my play time I frequently end up solo, so I frequently end up playing a scrapper.
My tanker was only level 16 but he was taking forever to beat foes down and at 16 his surviveability wasnt all that great anyway so killing faster would end up making him more surviveable (thats just my opinion not backed up by any maths etc). Characters dont stay level 16 forever and given that they will spend more time levelling at the higher levels you need to take into account how they perform at the higher levels not just as lowbies.
Hence the Brute vs tanker surviveability question in the first place =). -
Hey What Gives?! I cant make any new characters!?
Hmmm must be some server or maintenance issues going on. Drat I already deleted the tank! -
The tank is INV/SS, I was going to have the Brute be the same, SS/INV
-
Im returning after a bit of a hiatus, ok a pretty lengthy one.
I have a tank that Im thinking of re rolling as a Brute.
The idea of a tank doing real damage appeals to me, but not if he ends up being squishy. So my question is, how much surviveability does a brute lose to get his damage?
Is it gonna suck in the high levels when I get dropped by stuff that my tank could have stood up to? Or is that not really a problem with Brutes? -
AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!
Why do I suk so badly with Mids?!
For concept reasons I want to go with the energy epic, but there are several builds I like that use the Pyre, I copied them into mids but I cant figure out how to swap powers in and out.
I think I've got the choices power choices I want down, but now I need help getting things optimized.
My Chars name is Blue Streak
So you probably guessed what color his flames are!
I have the city traveler vet power so I can bypass the prerequisite travel power pick and can go straight to what I need, I am used to super jump as a travel power so I was thinking perhaps enough movement speed set bonuses would account for the streak part.
I could of course use SS as a power.
I have taken CJ, SL and Accro and basically am thinking that I can stick with that route, unless stf prots are a better way to go slot and power choice wise. -
Hello Grey, assuming you did want the convenience of the energy pool, what slotting would you recomend?
-
Does the KB protection also help against holds?
I was in exemped in a sewer mish and was getting held by the eidolans, back then I had burn and could drop a patch to get out, but it was frustrating getting taken out of the fight. -
Make him tougher, more recharge will go hand in hand with that as it will bring healing flames up more often, He definately has Blue issues that need to be addressed though I have started on them, I just have the strong feeling I'm not doing it efficiently.
I was playing him with generic IOs and while he was pretty tough thanks to taking tough, given enough incoming damage he would go down faster than an invuln, so some defense is called for too.
He has not been respec'd since health, stamina, run and jump became inherant and now that Burn is Back I want that back in his build.
Onething Ive noticed on higher end builds, they pare down the number of attacks they have based on how much recharge they have, so losing some attacks to flesh out defense recharge and stamina is doable. If he has enough recharge he might not need as many attacks.
He solos a lot so he still needs his single target attacks, but we can probably lose fire sword (does that attack bruise as well as scorch?) and possibly combustion, even though it's got better range than fire sword, it is slower, I kind of liked the idea that he would shrug off the incoming damage while it was powering up which feels tanker ish to me.
He never seemed to need taunt because of his damage aura, but with the choices freed up from the inherant health stamina etc it would be good to fit that in too even if its mostly a set mule
I liked the ability to taunt at a distance with his ranged attacks and fireball is a blast (pun intended) but the fiery epic set was actually taken in response to the Vanguard story arc missions where you had to take down the rogue vanguard agents, their wizards and rangers were carving me up (it also helps against sappers).
The ability to take one of them out of combat helped me (a little) Eventually I had to use amy's ward and any other temp power I had to get through them!
He will farm occaisionally but what I want is for him to tank for a full team as well as an invuln tank can and still dish out lots of damage.
Sort of like the army, I want him to be all that he can be.
My hassle is I'm not good at Mids at all, I'm clueless as to what is a good route to take to get him there. -
Heres what I have so far, but I'll be the first to admit I have no idea what I'm doing. Any help would be appreciated.

OK Update,
Ive been collecting a few IOs to go with the respec, I was about to pull the trigger and do the respec when I looked at when the slots were placed, Before I continue, I wanted to check,
Will this build exemp well?
I am planning some time in Ouroboros to do some content I missed out on.
Are there any rules of thumb about respeccing to ensure you dont gimp your low level self? -
My board namesake has been on level 50 generic IOs forever, its time to get him IO'd out.
He's a Tank, but he's the most scrappery tank type and this is where I come when I need help.
He is not a farmer, but I do use farm missions when I've had a really rotten day, I log him in, choose Frontload and burn everything in sight to ashes, after I do that a couple of times, somehow my day wasn't so bad after all =).
He was respecced out of burn when Burn got nerfed and I have not respecced him since.
I've looked on the tank boards and nothing seems to fit right.
Can I get some scrapper love with build help?
He is a rough concept (he's named after an RC car I used to have!) But I'd like him to have Super Speed and SL.
basically he needs to be tougher, more lethal and faster than he is with the generic IOs.
Funds are not unlimited but as he's a Fire Fire I can farm him if I need to earn cash for something. Thanks for the help. -
So you would recomend keeping body mastery?
-
Wow this is great info.
How cool is the scrapper forum.
I appreciate the help and insights.
I was going to respec out of body mastery and into Dark Mastery, because the late game is about lots and lots of bad guys and dark doesn't have any spawn killers on its own.
The groups I have been in are all basically frag fests, especially with the incarnate powers so I find unless the bad guys are very tough I barely ever get to go mano a mano with anything!
So being able to get a few licks in via ranged AOEs with Dark Mastery will be better than Body Mastery. I think I was following an AV killers build when I chose Body Mastery, and I get why they might have wanted it, but while I might want to try killing some AVs solo, I realize that its not really my main focus, so I dont think I'll need to bias my build for that aspect. If it happens I can sic AVs with the build that allows me to add some aoe great, but if not I can live without being able to solo an AV, I have 2 brothers who play so maybe we could duo or trio the AVs.
So would you mind tweeking the build a bit more to see if going dark will harm it and what would change if I went dark? -
Thanks,
I feel the same way about respeccing, but yeah I will respec him, I just have to plan it carefully.
Any thoughts on what to do with the secondary? -
Ok this is me currently.
Sort of half *****, The primaries seem ok. the secondaries are a mess.
So bring on the advices.

Thanks for the assist -
Greetings,
I took a hiatus from play for a bit and I'm coming back.
I seem to have missed a lot.
I have a character,
Captain Midnight,
that I was working on but I have lost my way with him.
He is now 50 and I wanted to complete him, but I cant figure out what I was doing before and or whether that was a good way to go.
Originally I had planned for him to be an AV killer because of his single target bias, but I still play missions and at this level that means large spawns to clear my way through which gets pretty dull one at a time.
I was thinking that I would be better off swapping out physical perfection with dark mastery just to get some AOE back into his bag of tricks.
I rot at mids and have accepted the fact that I dont seem to be getting any better at it, but that means I cant post my current build up.
I took bits and pieces from several sources on the forums (mostly because I couldnt afford purples)
His primary looks ok though who knows things may have changed.
His secondary is really still a hodge podge and im having a hard time figuring out what im doing with it.
So basically I need help.
I need help with mids so I can show you what I have and I need insights on what to do how to slot and what i will be giving up by swapping out physical perfection with dark mastery.
PS I have not even delved into incarnates yet I'm still reading up on all the changes since I stopped playing. -
I need some help figuring out which of the 2 is going to be more fun to level.
I cant figure out if the massive smashing lethal resist, good def, and debuff resistance added to INVs passives will make for better quality of character life than WPs good against pretty much everything combo of high regen, lowish resists and some def that WP brings to the table.
Does anyone have any experience with crap I wish I'd rolled this one instead of that one?
For what its worth I dont want to avoid mobs with psi. AVs with Psi (if it ever comes to that) yes I'll avoid them like the plague, but I dont want to skip any story arcs that have Psi. -
I have a Brute on Justice (Pretoria) but hes too low for RWZ (unless they changed the entry level for RWZ)
Will there be a channel set up so we can find out what the nights activities will be and get invites while not quite making the min level req for RWZ?
