What is your favorite SOLOING blaster and why???

Energy/energy, permanent Boost Range approach. Range-doubling is huge, and knockback only helps you keep them in the sweet spot of being outside their range but inside yours.

Fun to do: hover somewhere near a place where mobs who want to close to melee can jump up to, then jump over to you to try to attack. They'll be busy running their little obstacle course while you rain indignity and death down from above. For extra bonus, the repel aura power from the force epic, so they go flying even if they manage to make it to you.

Another vote for ice/ice/cold.

My favorite is my Fire/Energy Blaster.
The overall set of attacks it has is great for my playstyle.

2nd Favorite is my Energy/Energy
Energy/Energy is a very good combo for soloing. Offers up very good damage if pllayed right and use of knockbacks means it can solo bosses safer than almost any other blaster( Ice can be safer if it lands 2 holds on a boss).

Honerable Mension: Ice / Energy
Good Single target damage. Its AOE's are lacking, but are god enough for what it needs. Between Ice's Slows and Holds its a very safe combo to solo.

All of my blasters solo just great. Its hard to pick a favorite. It depends on the enemy more that anything.

Mental I have very little experience with. Like the Psi primary, though, you have the issue of a heavily resisted damage type.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you are confused, Psy is one of the least resisted dmg types. It is only HIGHLY resisted when you fight other Psy types (i.e. Carnie)

I'm not sure....late game it is frequently resisted....and when it is resisted its resisted hard. Remember most bots resist it and there are allot of enemy groups with bots in them. Also didn't someone do a resistance chart where Psy came out second for most resisted?

Edit: Just reread it and Psy was second on average resistance....so i guess that takes into account the very high resistance of those that do resist it.

I solo both of my 50 blasters. One is an Elec/NRG/Elec and the other is an Ice/Elec/Elec.

The Ice/ does a fair amount more damage whereas the Elec/ can end drain the crap out of pretty much anything. But it's the holds that let me solo, to be honest with you.

I absolutely love my AR/Eng/Mun blaster, massive cones and great dmg. bean bag + total focus+cryo freeze in mun equal great survivalbility, plus almost all of ARs attacks are kockdowns, and thrust is a great knockback.

Vanilla.

I'm quite fond of my Ice/Ice/Cold for soloing. One of the safest toons I've played. The only things that will give me fits are EBs.

Are you fighting from range and spamming Chilblain?

Of course, I'm assuming you have Chilblain well-slotted.

With good ranged defense and proper slotting on any of the Immobs I think you should have no trouble with EBs, or you could use purples and reds and go to work either way EBs don't really pose as big of a problem as you think they do.

Hard to say... I enjoy soloing with all my blasters.

Elec/Elec/Elec- Can hold damn near anything, and good AoE coverage on attack let you clear groups quickly.

Archery/Ice/Cold- Holds and slows... and of course dropping an Ice Patch and then Rain of Arrows/Fistful of Arrows/Exploding Arrow while they're all flopping around.

Sonic/Energy- Good -res from the sonic attacks soften baddies up for the monster hits from EM... great fun to play

Psy/Mental- Still just a wee one, but has been fun so far. Nice to have an attack that most things have no resistance against.

A well-slotted Chilblain can seriously boost your DPS. Spamming it will enable you to solo EBs in an impressively short amount of time (like before Eye of the Magus wears off).

Indeed, Ice and Ice makes everything nice. Then throw Ice mastery on top of it.

I'd say my Fire^3 was more fun than my Ice/MM/Ice, but I enjoy(ed) both.

Ice/EM. It is by far the fastest soloing character I have made.

[/ QUOTE ]

It felt like my Fire was faster than my Ice/EM, but I need to click a citizen sometime to check. Could well be that patrol xp led to a shorter time for the Ice/EM.

If you want to run around hazard zones, yeah, AoEs are essential, but if you just want to solo mission content (both "official" arcs and AE arcs) then your single target damage becomes way more important than your AoEs.

This

Not a bad point at all. A few folks seem to shortchange the ST powers (especially the Tier 1/2), but fully-slotted and in these kinds of situations, they perform pretty well I think.

Super Packs Done Right
Influence Sink: IO Level Mod/Recrafting
Random Merit Rolls: Scale cost by Toon Level

Truth.

Chillblain is probably the best tier 1 secondary power blasters can get. I dont even hover blast on my Ice/Ice/cold, i just run circle strafes and chillblain tough enemies until they stop in their tracks, then proceed to trow snow at them till they drop.

Slot it for damage IMO. I use decimation in 5 slots (all but chance for build up) and then fill in the 6th with the trap of the hunter proc- I used the apocalypse proc already in ice bolt, or I would have put that in there lol. I like procs in the super fast spammy attacks- you get tons of DPS out of them.

Drop an ice patch then stand behind it so they have to run through it to get to you and spam chillblain a couple times, and voila, no need to worry about melee mobs ever touching you.

Ice/Ice/Cold gets my vote by far out of all of my blasters as the best solo fun. Flash freeze to open, then shiver, then ice patch, and you have a fish in a barrel scenario.

And dont get me started on Blizzard... so.much.fun.

...cept some people dont like ice as a power.

Guess from the amount of praise ice/ice is getting, that leaves everyone else in the dust for solo work.

Selective reading much? I saw plenty of others mentioned.

For me, the most fun to solo is my En/En blapper.

I think that of all my blasters, my Ice/Ice is probably the safest, and maybe even the most powerful soloist. But that didn't necessarily make her the most fun.

Posted

I'm surprised no one mentioned Archery much at all. Unless I needed to sleep last night when I was reading this, I didnt spot anyone mentioning the Archery primary for blasters. I take its not a good solo set because of the lack of early AoE?

Posted

Archery has a perfectly good cone attack in FoA available to it at 2nd level as a blaster. The problem I see is that the set is mostly lethal.

Congratulations on seeing it before everyone else, I guess.

You know what's weird to me? For a long time now, it seemed like I was the only person in the world who actually liked Ice Manipulation--not just with Ice Blast, either, but on its own. Now all of a sudden it seems to be getting a lot of good press. I doubt it was me that convinced them, so I guess it's just one of those things. Weird, though.
