this game should lower its monthly fee to $9.99

Totally - every time I have a great character leveling up, BAM they introduce something new that I've already outleveled lol! So...

ALTS! It's a never ending cycle of alts and new material.

Plus, by the time you get around to 50 after having *concentrated* on it (and I've done that, honest I have lol) you'll have forgotten some of the stuff in the early and mid-game already anyway.

Sure, I've done the early level missions a lot. But, I haven't done Tech or Mutant in a long while, mostly magic and recently science and natural again after a VERY long time.

It's refreshing, fun. Plus, costumes.

I can sympathize with being a broke student (or a kid who lives at home), but $15/month CAN be done. Raking lawns, shovelling snow, donating plasma, babysitting, telling family and friends you want gametime cards for special occasions...

It just depends on how much you want to continue playing the game. My freelance video production pays for my account, my husband's bonus commission checks pay for his. If they had lifetime subscriptions to CoH the way LotRO did, we'd be the first in line going, "Deal, let's go."

However, if you feel that $15/month is too much (or not worth it), then that's your choice.

EDIT: But I see your point, absolutely nothing about the game has changed in the last 5 years, they should definitely lower the subscription price.

Heh heh.

Yeah I know it's long, but when you look at it, it really brings home just how much and how often the devs update the game.

FOR FREE I might add. In five years we've had one (1) paid expansion. so far. I'm not counting Going Rogue because it hasn't been released yet.

I wish the forum would have let me put it all in one post tho. It kept locking me out until I shortened it. and put the info in seperate posts

This is the biggest factor I'd like to thank the devs for. They could just as easily make us pay for each issue, but they don't.

another game i play phantasy star universe which is $9.99/month. it came out in october 2006. and ppl complain about the fee there all the time. and sometimes i subscribe to wow. also xbox live $50/yr (4.17/mo) these fees add up. 9.99 for psu, 14.99 for wow, 14.99 for coh. thats 50+ a month on games. this adds up.

along with about 200 to 300 on groceries/alcohol/restaurants ($150) per month, 279 for rent each month. 40/mo to my brother for doing the dishes, and cleaning the apartment. 20 for adult entertainment. 50 for car insurance. 25 for renters insurance. 10 for life insurance. 30+ for gas. i'm gonna have to pay for dental insurance soon. also money for furniture, new bed, bedding stuff, electronics, soon a new $1200 computer. also other games i buy such as sf4, fightpad controller, defense grid, castle crashers, ssf2thdr ($60) and other games, video rentals ($20). and medical expenses i just paid 735 for a hospitol bill, credit report 25. gambling ($100), movie theateres ($60), postal stamps, luckily no credit cards currently. and i get about $900/month from disability, and i live in north county san diego, ca. i'm not working right now. soon i'll go back to work after i have a cataract in my eye removed. then i go back to pizza delivery for round table while getting disability.

i'm surprised so many ppl were against this. you must be rich or are you brats that live off your parents. how easily do you give away your money. talk about trolls, and flaming. it seems like you should want to save money not give it away. what are you gonna do when champions comes out? pay another 14.99 or let your characters die? i'll probably subscribe to this on, and off like i do wow. and switch to champions maybe when it comes out. also i was only trying this game out to see wheter i like it or if it was worth it, not promising to be a lifetime subscriber.

I just saved you $440.

Ignoring my own guesstimates on some of your expenditures, you still spend more in a month on 'extras' than I spend on food. Quit your whining, eliminating three 6-packs a month will pay for CoH.

$100 for gambling? Holy carp! I missed that one the first time.

Perhaps he should spend $85 on gambling, then he'd have $15 for CoH.

this game should lower its monthly fee to $9.99 instead of 14.99 imo. its getting old. its 5yrs old now. any game this old should not be going for 14.99/month still. if the rate wasn't so high i would keep my subscription going for a longer time. since its so high i will only subscribe for one more month before quiting.

to OP: grow up $15 is cheap. Subscribe its even cheaper. HBO package is $15 and I'm on here more than I watch TV.

About TACO BELL: You never pay for the food you only rent it.

Wal-Mart - Still brings the sux. In the real worl $9.72 for an item that normal costs $9.99 elsewhere really isn't a bargain. Given the true cost of what Wal-marts have done to the small towns they are in. (I'll shop Meijer's and Target even though its a 40 minute drive over the 5 minute drive to Wal-mart. Heck I'll shop Circle K over Walmart)

Jay and I were actually paid by Taco Bell to eat one day. They were doing some marketing research on a new product and gave us some "taco bell bucks" for sampling it and filling out a little form.

p.s. Longevity has no place in your argument for this MMO. Had we stopped getting updates 3 or 4 years ago, then I would support your argument. But this game is still fresh and exciting.

I'm not sure how many people have been joining this game, but I can't see it being too high of numbers. CoX is a ghost town compared to what it used to be, so any penny counts. I.E. Costume packs.

Going rogue. Gotta' pay...probably around the same price as this game goes for retail. Remember the days when the devs said there would -NEVER- be a paid for expansion? Gone like the pvp community. As for fresh and exciting...well more like a decent pass time, sure there's always going to be a few die hards that just can't get enough. Some of us need more than a farm tool that gets you banned or going back in time to play missions you've already played.

They've put out one paid for expansion - COV. They have never charged for an issue. There's a difference.

So you pay extra money because you don't want to clean your own place or do your own dishes. You pay this with money you receive at least in part from the taxpayers. And then you have the audacity to imply that other people here are spoiled in some way.

Wow.

Doing so would cost them about $500,000 a month. You think they should just suffer without that money, cut back on staff and content generation, just so that you can save your five bucks a month?

[/ QUOTE ]

yes please.

i'm all for cheaper/free things so /signed to the OP. but i don't think it will ever happen. $15 or free is what the MMO market has determined to be what sells best. So i doubt the monthly fee will ever change.

Some suggestions:

1. if you buy some new version of the game, going rogue maybe, you get your next few months for $9.99.

2.For every year you have subscribed your account gets a token that you can redeem at any time to get half off your next month price.

3. To celebrate some event, a holiday or anniversary, maybe make that months fee only $9.99.

4. One of the Dev's gets married to Bill Gates and as a wedding gift to us all, bill pays for every current subscribers accounts for 5 years!

Numbers have seemed about the same to me. If there's a dip at all I'd blame the gorgeous weather we've been having lately before any of the changes that 99% of the player-base probably didn't even notice.

As to the price being too high, then stop paying by the month. If you pay by the year it's more like $11.99 a month. I drop more than that going to a movie and that only lasts about two hours.
