Now, on the other hand, if they were to (somehow) make a game that lasted, let's say, 3 years - no, let's go crazy and double that - 6 years, then we might have to conclude that they're actually pretty good at making and running games, and don't really need business advice from misc forum posters.

But that's unpossible, so we'll never know.
I suppose we should worship the creators of Ultima online as gods then? Also let's call up the writers of Harry Potter and Twilight so we can worship them as the greatest writers of all time.

The business model for CoX is ridiculous, that's just well known. The -only- reason this game has done so well is because it's the first ever super hero themed MMO. Plain and simple. People got attached, and now that people expect the same vast world from a brand new MMO as they do a 5 year plus MMO it's pretty easy to keep a well established player base. If a new super hero MMO came out tomorrow, that offered better gameplay and a larger world, this game would be dead in a month. Sure you can say "Well why isn't it dead after DCUO?" that can easily be answered with one word, Sony. They flopped two HUGE MMO names in one year, most likely because most developer teams are bass-ackwards. In fact the MMO industry is, a lot of higher ups are complete morons who did nothing to deserve their job other than know the right people. They're kind of like that one fellow off of step-brothers who thought being a doctor was a family business. The point here is CoX is one of those "Right place at the right time." MMO's, they released a game that literally had -no- direct competition.

Back to the real point of this thread, they've already lied multiple times about various freedom aspects. It's getting rather out of hand, clearly they don't have a clear idea on how they actually want things to work and are basically playing it by ear. For starters -all- the best free to play games are based around pvp, you can try and argue that as much as you want but it's true. Giving Vip players limited points so they are -forced- to buy extra. I guess they also forgot that basically all successful f2p's allow players access to everything without subscription, they also allow players the ability to buy things that would normally cost money with in game currency. So unless they have the worst free to play business model ever, I would assume they either think they deserve more than $15 a month or need more than $15 a month. Either way very little about this makes sense. Maybe they are gathering funds for the next CoH, or maybe they are just a money hungry corporation that fails to see the bigger picture.

That analogy is so poor it's quality can only be compared to the writers intelligence level. Buying a game and not liking one set of powers out of the enormous amount offered is drastically different than buying a specific powerset with limited points given on a monthly basis.

My guess is the dev team got tired of releasing sets on par or better than previously existing ones, then having to nerf the new set a few months later only to hear the shrieks of horror.
  3. I snagged the Name "Black Star" because I thought I could make a really good concept out of it. Unfortunately I'm having difficulties and to be honest am open to trading it for something. If anyone has offers just PM me!
  4. I'm scared to play some star craft 2 out of fearing they open the servers early >.>

Hurreh so I can get my toon higher than everyone elses, thus enabling me to look down on them in shame for their lowbieness.

Fantastic news. I appreciate the help! I was extremely confused if you cannot tell by my previous post..Thanks again.

Huge sigh of relief there, does ViP cost more though?

Edit: It appears whoever responded pulled their post.
  7. I spent some time reviewing the boards for Freedom Beta, I found it extremely hard to find a direct answer to my question. How much is it going to cost me to keep everything I have going now? I read some things that gave the impression I'll actually have to pay -more- to access things I already have. If that's the case, that's just flat out ridiculous. I'm hoping I can continue to buy my time cards for the same price and receive just as much as I do now, I mean it doesn't really make sense for a game to become more expensive as time goes on...Everything seems to have limitations that really don't add up. For instance paragon points really make no sense to me, so I get a certain amount per month? Can I purchase more?

I don't know, this seems to be far more confusing than any other "free to play" I've ever seen. I'm expecting lots of people to come to this game thinking "We can finally play CoH without having to pay!" then realizing it's all really just fancy wording for "You're still going to have to pay if you want to hang with the rest of the kids." If someone could set the record straight for me, I'd appreciate it greatly.
  8. I don't even have to read this thread to realize how little of a basis this argument has.

1.) This game is being re-vamped so people will focus on the end game, which just so happens to be what people were asking for oh I don't six years.

2.) People vigorously complained of their lack of abilities, the devs fixed that so everyone could be on a team without feeling like a complete waste. Of course now that they actually answered the call people are complaining it was too much.

3.) Solo a trial, then talk to me about a Tank Mage. Until that day, sorry guy but you really have nothing other than "I don't like something, please change it so it appeals to my personal tastes more."

4.) You obviously have very little clue on how long people have been waiting for end game content like this. My jaw literally dropped when I found out how much time/money is going into end game, because previously we had nothing but the LRSF or STF. I mean you could try and run a hami, but finding that many people is much harder than grabbing eight randoms.

5.) People -hated- the 1 hero/villain=3 minions concept. It was stupid, the devs even admitted they didn't like it. Last time I checked this was City of Heroes, not City of Armed Civilians. People -love- mowing over large quantities of enemies because it makes them feel like they haven't wasted their time getting something to 50 that might not get on any teams because of certain powers.

Here's an idea, set your own challenges. I know it seems crazy, but believe it or not the majority of people enjoy not dying repeatedly. Also to be completely honest, do you really think CoH is going to re-vamp this whole game, making everyone weaker? Does that honestly seem logical in any way shape or form? No. People would leave by the masses. It would be like i13 for PvE in this game.
  9. I'm guessing they are attempting to fix the memory leak or whatever seems to be causing all these crashes. I'm only guessing, but my idea is that whatever they came up with may have worked on test but something on live must have been different causing an error rather than resolving the issue.

In my ever so optimistic mind, this is a good thing. Although I'm making quite a few assumptions, if they actually do fix this crashing issue, that would say they are taking this transition very seriously.
  10. I'd say Memory leak > anything. Sure having a glitched map sucks, not being able to play for more than 30-60 minutes sucks more.

All pvp'rs are gone despite changes, they could overhaul this game twice over and still not have a game worth playing at this point in time. Especially after everyone gets their hands on their incarnates, that's when one build will truly beat everything *cough* elec/regen *cough*.

    PvP Currencey

I was actually thinking the same thing, this idea's been around forever though. With reward merits/Alignment merits/Vanguard Merits/Shards and all the other mini items we collect to buy something of real value it only makes sense that PvP offer the exact same thing.

What should happen is keep the five minute timer, except every reputation point you earn for a kill you also earn a point towards buying Purples/PvP IO's. That might sound crazy to a lot of none pvp'rs but if we really look at risk vs reward in PvP, it's rather ridiculous in this game. Sure you could say healers/buffers won't get as many points but in PvE an IO'd SS/WP won't kill as fast as a fire/shield. Point being even with pvp fixes there will still be builds that are better than others when it comes to aspects like damage, that's just the way games work. Also as it stands the only people that seem to have good pvp IO's are intense farmers/marketeers or people who buy influence for real money. Sure a couple people get lucky every now and then but it's getting to the point where Purples/PvP's should be not as difficult to attain with the new incarnate system coming out.
  14. My suggestion for the names situation would be to do the same thing CoH pre-orders did for people in the 1 month open beta. Everyone had to make sure their 1st character was the one that held the name you wanted reserved for yourself when it hit live, except this time make it the top five. Also allow people the option of using the same name multiple times, speaking for myself I could tell you I'd most likely only have 4 names I'd want to actually keep while the others are usually just spin offs of my mains. I really don't see anyway around globals other than adding a 1 if that name happens to already be taken, a global rename should be offered as well in case they are like me and can't stand a name with numbers in it.

As for the topic of extended maintenance, I lost a lot of important stuff myself. Incarnate shards, expensive IO's, and 50+ million in infamy. I can only imagine how large scale this incident really is...If it can't be fixed I think everyone should receive a free set of purples/pvp io's. Seriously though we'll need some sort of compensation...
  15. The fact that golden girl commented means they have roleplayers wanting pvp now. So no there's zero hope for pvp, but when all the new fun games are out the rp community can pew pew like it was i12 again.

Please limit it to ONE aspect. What was the most standout thing for you in pre-I13 PvP? What was, in your opinion, the single best thing about it?
The best part of pre i13 pvp was the amount of people. Unfortunately all those people have left and will -never- come back.

Here's what I see happening if anything, a revert. That means all the builds we have worked ever so hard on to build for this ridiculous design of pvp will be ruined, great job dev team? You officially wasted 3+ years of the pvp communities time and your reputation with any new game will now be tarnished from this incident, and already is trust me.

The only thing that could possibly turn the remaining pvp community around is if you guys actually spent real time and effort on creating something new and shiny for us. Quite literally an entire issue scaling close to power customization. I highly doubt that'll ever happen, in fact everyone here highly doubts -anything- will happen. Can't really blame us either, like alpha said we tried fixing the developers mistakes and they did nothing but sit there embarrassed. So now maybe give us open world pvp and people -might- consider talking about this without being overwhelmed by the ignorance shown by the people running this game. Until we see something tangible and you quit asking us for information that has been previously presented, expect this sort of attitude.
  17. That was some funny stuff from our friendly neighborhood coder/troller Reppu. Seriously though give people colors and they'll be happy for now until a later date. Black bots would be sweet. Don't get me wrong I'd rather them fix pvp since it's the most broken, unfortunately this game doesn't want more money? So till then black bots.

But Widows broke it, IMO, so it was nerfed to 10. 10 Elusivity might as well be 0. It's worthless.

I say bring back 30 Elusivity, but don't give it to Widows. Leave them at 10.

At any rate, Elude makes SR playable. It does grant a certain amount of survivability you won't otherwise have. With Diminishing Returns, the base Defense of SR outside of Elude is a joke.
I think that right there is a joke. I know first hand that an SR can beat a widow in a 1v1 duel, maybe not a fort, but definitely a widow. Unless you throw mass amounts of purple/pvp IO's in it, but if you do that to just about anything it becomes extremely difficult to beat.

The problem is T9's are so loaded the rest often lacks. If elude took a slight nerf and the toggles for widows/sr's were given a boost it would result in a more balanced set.
  19. I've made 2000 grains of rice since I've posted this thread for "Heroes for Hunger!" :P. I believe they pay for it by banner advertising. Each time you click the right answer the banner changes, which in turn pays for the rice you've just donated. It's a pretty genius idea if you ask me!
  20. Hi everyone, I'd just like to stop and and leave a link to a website that allows you to play educational mini-games to help feed those that can't afford the things you and I can. It's a very simple concept, you play a game, every question you get right will give someone 10 grains of rice. I realize this does not seem like very much, but trust me over time it adds up extremely quick. I myself have acquired 14,000 grains so far, and that's over a single nights time.

I realize many of you read these forums at work, when you're bored, or simply to keep up to date with friends you may have on here. I'm simply asking that you use some of your time to not only ease your boredom, but to actually make a difference! So here's the information on how to get started:

    1.) Go to http://www.freerice.com

    2.) Sign up!

3.) When you have finished signing up go to the groups section.

4.) Search groups for: Heroes for Hunger! (yes I put an exclamation mark in there :P)

5.) Join and get started helping the world!

You should also know I'm creating a Tera-Online group as well, in hopes to start a friendly competition between two games! Anyways you shouldn't be reading this, you should be creating an account and joining the "Heroes for Hunger!" by now.

P.S. Please feel free to use this thread to discuss how much rice you've earned or other ways we can all help out this sometimes un-forgiving world.

The Dark Servant gives you two heals that will hit 95% of the time since regen has 0 defense. Put taunt on auto, they won't be able to kill your pets or you. Auto win.
  22. I was told if you got nothing nice to say don't say anything. I'm going to break that rule.

PVP is still broke, and now that's it's changed it's going to take even more work to fix. You and you're team literally ruined a game for hundreds of players with no apology what so ever. You added in regular number crunching and everyone thinks that's amazing even though literally every other MMO were waist deep in it.

Now MMO's are moving towards aiming and skill based. I seriously hope for the sake of whatever game you end up working on you don't take the same concept of pvp with you.
  23. Demon/Dark MM. If you can't beat everything with demon/dark you're doing it wrong. Just you wait, all the fotm'rs that play their km/regens now will most likely get a nerf making them cry as loud as they did when widows/forts got nerfed. Then they will move on to MM's.

    @Toe Tagger

I'm peacin out from this game, save the typical whoru's for some nublet in freedom. You might know me from virtue you might not, I don't think anyone reading this really cares.

Add me on Star craft 2 or ps3

    SC2- @ToeTagger

    PS3- @Toe_Tagger9

If you're going to be playing black ops and are actually good at fps then hit me up. If you suck at SC 2 and cry every time you get rushed you shouldn't add me.
