A TRUE hero questions whether or not he is a villain. And a villain KNOWS he is the hero.

I refer you to a word that is very popular among "gangstas" a word that is used to describe their best friend, which was once used only to keep them down. A word that I know would be censored, and even if it wasn't I would get modsmacked and possibly banned because I am white and used it.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is, of course, a difference here. The N-word you alluded to has been embraced as a way to remove its stigma. If I were a black man, I might feel that me using the N-word is empowering, as now it is MY word, not the word of silly racist white people. The same goes for the other F-word and the gay community (though that one offends me regardless).
[/ QUOTE ]
All this does is end up with people of all races all over the world using the word unironically because they think it's cool.
[/ QUOTE ]
as a guy who has a Pikachu on Pikachu fight as an Avatar, i think you lose all credibility about inter race fighting ^_^
p.s. I did cry when i watched the ending of that movie in the theaters as a kid. What! it was sad! -
Plus that's why we cant ever let robots run the world as explained in just about any story with robots in them. They see the world as 1's and 0's the "true" world. And in a world of simple cause and effect humans are a parasite, and parasites need to be eliminated for everyone else to live.

[ QUOTE ]
Good and evil are a myth. They are nothing but subjective descriptors of an event/motive.
[/ QUOTE ]
While this is a true statement, it overlooks the fact that life itself is a subjective experience. If you want to find any meaning in anything at all, then you either apply the meaning yourself (in which case other subjective definitions become meaningless or at least peripheral) or you look to society to provide the meanings.
There was no objective meaning to Jeffrey Dahmer. He was simply a creature following instincts that satisfied his basic urges and actualized his pleasure. The lives he terminated were equally meaningless - simply the cessation of biological machinery and the conversion of organic material into other forms of organic material.
Once you start down the road of deconstruction, claiming that there is no morality, or even an objective reality, you really don't stop until you end up with the universe being devoid entirely of any sort of structure or meaning. It's all just an unimaginably big quantum mechanical chain reaction. The Buddhists have it right, essentially. Whatever meaning we attribute is nothing but sensory impressions of the veneer at the top of the true reality, which is nothing at all.
If you're going to have a society of any kind, then good and evil are not going to be mythical, even if they're not objectively definable. That is, if you throw yourself in front of a bus to save your fiancee, others will say "Living is desirable over dying. I would want someone to save me in that fashion if I was in that situation. I will laud this behavior as desirable behavior. This is Good."
The fact that a Catholic priest might say "That was tantamount to suicide, a very bad thing. That was evil." does not make it any less significant. It just means that from one perspective it's good, and from another it's evil. (For the record, I don't imagine a Catholic priest would actually say that, it's just what popped into my head at that moment.) Subjective, yes. Meaningless, no.
Therefore, the context is what matters.
For our purposes, the context is "Comic Book Morality".
There isn't 100% agreement on just what all the fine details of Comic Book Morality are. We have general agreement on the gross details, though. Heroes work for the common good. Villains work for their own agendas and their own personal power. Heroes follow a moral code, however loosely defined. Villains follow whatever code suits their backstory and their purposes. Heroes limit their damage to the punishment of the villainous. Villains inflict punishment on anyone for any reason that makes sense to them.
It doesn't matter if that's how things work in real life or not. We're not playing a game in a real life simulator. Moral ambiguity is only useful in Comic Book World as a temporary dramatic gimmick in most cases. Ultimately, a hero who is not "good" and a villain who is not "evil" are unsatisfying and unfulfilling to the people experiencing their stories.
Satisfying stories is what it's all about, in the end. Except for the achiever types who just like seeing big numbers roll up until they hit the level cap.

[ QUOTE ]
Some folk like to whinge about how their villains don't feel 'bad' enough or how they're fed up of being Lord Recluse's stooge.
I was wondering about what sort of storyline endings these types would like to see, which got me to thinking about villains in books, movies, other games, and also to some extent reality.
Can anyone think of examples in other media of villains being evil and winning through at the finish?
Behaving badly and either getting away with it or being rewarded for it in RL seems to happen fairly often (serial killers getting away with it for decades or even not being caughtc at all, company CEOs willfully mismanaging and getting huge pension payodfs etc), but I'm not sure I'd describe those as narratively satisfying.
Any ideas?

1. The enite mini-series Empire . Its about what happens when a Dr.Doom type villain actually does kill all the heroes and take over the world. One of my ALL time fav comics too. Very good read.
2. Task Master when he had is own comic came out on top.
3. Deadpool is in a lot of ways a villain despite some runs in his comic where he tries the whole hero gig out. But at the end of the day the man would kill some one for a stick of gum if he wanted it. But he is just so wacky and lovable aint he?
4. Norman Osborn is doing pretty good for him self in Marvel atm. Though I'm sure he will eventually get his come up ins.
5. The Boys In that series the good guys are actually the bad guys. But them seem to be getting away with it pretty well so far. But again i'm sure at the end they will get their come up ins.
6. Darth Revan *SPOILER* If you get the bad ending in KOTOR it ends pretty gods dam well for you imoh. Or if you get the good ending it ends well for you too, even though you are not evil anymore...so that one doesn't count.
7. Darth Bane seems to be having a good time so far in his novels. At the end of "Darth Bane the Path of Destruction" and "The Rule of Two" he comes out on top. But sadly as is the inevitable end to all Sith Lords reign of power they will eventually die. Until one can finally perfect the arts of never ending life. Dam Palpatine aka Darth Sedious you came so close.
8. Any game with a good/bad plot. 99% of games that have a good/bag choice in them ends well for the bad guy if you so choose to be. Though a few do seem to enjoy punishing you for all your evil deeds which i never like.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.

Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.

to the OP
Thats what happens when u make maps with an etch a sketch ^_^ -
To be honest when ever I see the name i do think it has some kind of naughty connotation, and giggle like a 8 year old school boy when they hear the word poop.
edit:
Refering to the OP not that silly Indian thing. Get off your high horse if you find it bad. Its just a dam saying. -

Doing so would cost them about $500,000 a month. You think they should just suffer without that money, cut back on staff and content generation, just so that you can save your five bucks a month?
[/ QUOTE ]
yes please.
i'm all for cheaper/free things so /signed to the OP. but i don't think it will ever happen. $15 or free is what the MMO market has determined to be what sells best. So i doubt the monthly fee will ever change.
Some suggestions:
1. if you buy some new version of the game, going rogue maybe, you get your next few months for $9.99.
2.For every year you have subscribed your account gets a token that you can redeem at any time to get half off your next month price.
3. To celebrate some event, a holiday or anniversary, maybe make that months fee only $9.99.
4. One of the Dev's gets married to Bill Gates and as a wedding gift to us all, bill pays for every current subscribers accounts for 5 years! -

Lies! Everyone knows their is no girls on the internets. Only guys, guys pretending to be girls, and cops pretending to be kids. -
i know the frustration u are having, after having 2 of my own stories up their since day 1 and have yet to have anyone play them i just said frack that and unpublished them. It was driving me nuts b/c every time i would log on i would just have to go see, b/c u never know! But untill they find a way to delete all the farm and lol i made a mission!" missions its gonna be dam near impossible to get them played unless u have a big SG or a lot oa friends. Or money to pay people to rate your missions like i have seen going around a lot.

Ya that's what i figured. Just wanted to see if it was me with the problem or if it was a known issue. ty all.
-
if it was that easy i think their would be anew post every min asking this same thing. Don't hold your breath but i don't think they will. Then again one of them might just do it out of spite of all the flame messages i'm sure this will get b4 its modded.
-
the problem I'm having is setting up the spawn location for glowies. I set them to the end of a mission but on just about every map i test with they always end up spawning some where near the front or middle. I have quadruple checked and it is set to "back". Is this just a problem with some maps not having enough varied spawn locations? or is it a known problem with MA?

It's not very heroic to spawn a bunch of minions to die for you.
[/ QUOTE ]
you are not summoning minions to die for you. You are getting backup from your squad of highly trained soldiers. And as the squad commander its your job to not get them killed. As anyone who has ever watched a war movie knows, being a commander some times means sending good men to die so others can live. They knew the risks when they enlisted. -
i have always believed that the next epic set should be a squad leader. Since i read some place one of the dev's saying that the next epic they make would be open to both heros and villains i think this would kill 4-5 birds with one stone if done a certain way.
Make a class that's essentially a MM. On blue side you could have a longbow commander who summons various longbow units to fight for him. And his 2nd set can be a mix of AoE team buffs/heals. A real team support build. A guy who's sole purpose is to lay down some diversions with his minions and help support the team with various heals or buffs.
Red side can have the same thing only an arachnos arbiter or high ranking commander of some sort. This way the heroes get a taste of MM, the MM community get a new powerset,we get a new epic AT, and everyone gets more team support.
IMHO anyway -
ya the tech side of it was always a concern in my head while i was making it. But one work around i was thinking of is when ever you log off a character a small text file is saved on your computer. In the file it would keep track of what your settings where when you logged on last and just display them on the menu for you. It wouldn't be perfect but that way you wouldn't have to worry about overloading the system because it would just be looking at a file on your hard drive.
IDK how the friends list works but i wouldn't think it would be hard to just have it load the one time. Would work for global friends i guess but might run into a problem with local.
IDK lol here's hoping i DEV pops in and lets us know if it would be possible, or if it would be a lot of work/impossible.. -
oh snap! you just got served..i think...but ya.. Champions online isn't any thing special. Other then being able to change whats on the left/right of arms/legs hey have nothing. And the tails/backpacks. And the added detail in the costumes. But other then that nothing. I haven't logged on to it in a few months so it might have changed but the game doesn't look all that good. trust me the Because CO is doing it thing isn't a very good argument.

I'm reasonably sure that a large amount of this is possible (just load the info from the character) but not particularly feasible thanks to the additional load time. Depending on how some of the systems are implemented, it may not even be possible for some of those features to operate without being fully logged in (re: friends tab, tickets, merits, etc.).
[/ QUOTE ]
ya i just sat there and made a mental list of all the things a player might want to know about but would have to log in to see. I'm sure there is a lot more i didn't think of, but for me it was the how much money a char has and if they have items on WW/BM that are about to expire. I cant begin to tell you how much awesome stuff i lost b/c i forgot i had them on an alt i never played much.
[ QUOTE ]
That's actually somewhat impressive, but I'd probably rather have the local friends in the character's detail box, and have a separate detail box for global friends.
[/ QUOTE ]
ya i at the time i made the pic i forgot about local friends lol. The few people i play with i just global because I'm the type of player who cycles their alts. I play one for a few hours, then move to next. So it can be weeks sometimes b4 i play it again. Forgot not everyone plays like that lol -

This is just a mock up of a few things others and myself have wanted added to the character selection screen for awhile. And since I was bored and always enjoyed making mock ups for game UI since I had to do it in college for the game I made, I made one lol.
I dont think its anything revolutionary, and Im sure the UI wizards they have can come up with something better. I just used the only available empty space on screen. Because of pixilation I had to make the font a little larger then what could be used in game so it looks kind of crowded on the mock up, but it could be fixed in game. And the window position would probably need to be changed for people who run at lower resolution since that space wouldnt be there for them.
I think it would work best as a toggle window hence the details button so you can toggle it on or off depending on whether or not you wanted to see the info. I know I would love to be able to see a lot of the info I added without the need to log in every character one at a time. IDK how hard it would be tech wise for the DEV's to add that info but it would be nice imho.
Any who thats it. Just thought I would post it and let the forum sharks rip it apart as I know they love fresh content to rip apart.
Edit: lol just noticed i have Black Market and not Went Worths. I originally had a villain set there but then i picked a dif char because i liked the costume better lol. Forgot to change it.
----------------------------------------------------------
I have gotten a few PM's on how i made it look just like in game so i thought i would add how i made it. If it breaks any forum rules sorry i didn't know.
I used Photoshop, but only because its the program I learnt how to use in college. Any photo editing program that has layers would work for all it takes to do.
1. To make your own just go to the character log in screen and hit the screen cap button on your keyboard. Then paste it into Photoshop.
2. Select one of the buttons using the selection tool then use the eraser to erase all the fluff around it until it is just the button left on the layer. Using the selection tool erase the text in the button, then use the eyedropper tool to select the buttons colour and past it into the deleted area.
3. For the window just open the store option at the character selection screen and take another screen cap. Then do the same steps as in step 2 to erase all the surrounding background colours. And this time make sure you delete the center area as well so that all thats left is the blue skeletal outline of the window.
4. Once the window has been completely hollowed out so that only the border outline is visible copy that layer. With the bottom layer selected fill the inside of the hollowed out border with pure black. Set that layers opacity to whatever you want then merge the two layers.
5.For the font I Googled around to see if there was COH font but the best one I could find was something called Red Circle http://www.1001freefonts.com/redcircle.php . Once its installed (Vista users simply extract the font file and right click and select install. XP/98/95 users simply copy the extracted file to C:\Windows\Fonts then it should be available to use. Mac users idk lol I dont use a Mac so you will need to Google.) Simple select the font and create a text field using the text tool. Then fill in the info as you wish.
Thats it. Pretty simple to do, and not a lot of magic photo editing voodoo was involved...unless you count the goat I always sacrifice before doing any 3D modeling or photo editing work. I swear the programs never crash now that I started doing it! Lol Hope it helped.
Here is the Link to the .psd i used in case anyone wants it. It was made with CS3 so compatibility might be a problem sorry if it is. Let me know if the link doesn't work i haven't used the linked hosting site in a long time so it may not upload correctly.
