Disallow broadcast inside AE buildings

I was struck by the fact that people tend to request teams in broadcast while inside the AE. I mean, these folks are standing 20 feet away from each other and spamming broadcast. I think that the broadcast channel should not be selectable for sending when you're inside an AE building. Local works just fine and would have the benefit of reducing the annoyance factor for folks outside AE.

Of course, if this was done, people would probably start spamming the Request channel instead of Local. *grumble*

Isn't the request channel where you should be requesting teams?

I just dislike the noise that emanates from the AE building. I'd be just as annoyed if it was Request channel as I am that it's Broadcast, since they're all standing right flippin' next to each other!

I'd have to disagree with this suggestion. Yes, the broadcasts can get annoying. Sometimes, I turn off broadcast. But sometimes I'm running, say, a tour of story driven arcs and I use broadcast to advertise the fact. Maybe there are people in other parts of the zone who'd be interested in seeing some stories. Why shouldn't I be able to use broadcast from where I'm at and departing from?

Regarding which channel to use to look for teams, well, I've seen snark go both ways on Request v. Broadcast.

I'd like this. I'd like it a lot.

Just turn Broadcast into a local, or a team chat. Whichever works.

/unsigned. It can get annoying, but sometimes you want to broadcast something to the whole zone while in the AE buildings.

In addition, how could this be done? Really the only way they would be able to do this would be to move the interior of the building to another separate zone. That would kind of ruin the aesthetic quality of being able to actually see the zone you're in through the windows.

No thanks. If you don't want to listen to brioadcast you can always turn it off or go to another zone.

Remember, the broadcast channel is in zone only. If you are broadcasting in Atlas Park only people in Atlas Park can hear you.

[/ QUOTE ]We would loose the cool windows but on the other hand all the AE players would suddenly be in the same zone (or AE 2 o r3) and Atlas Broadcast can go back to being people arguing about what levels should run sewer farms and who has the prettiest cyborg cat school girl.

I don't think it can be done. Oh well.

What OP said here.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmm... the spamming might be why I dedicated a tab solely to broadcast, AE, and Arena only. As I have also dedicated a tab to LFG channels. Tab for local. Tab for customized combat. (Rewards, errors.) Etc, etc, etc...

Personally I prefer editing the chat tabs. Makes life easier. Less people complaining. Less reason to complain. That way everyone who likes Broadcast as it is, can have it that way. I only look when I feel like it.

Sometimes there aren't many people in the AE building at that specific moment. Or perhaps the person who could jump in on a group is over leveling up outside that would be in the right level bracket to jump in on the PuG. Broadcast is there for that purpose. Anyone in the zone can communicate with another.

My suggestion for a solution would be to just kick broadcast to a different tab, or take it out of the main completely. Or keep it in two tabs if you are afraid you'll miss something, when the 'LFG spamming' gets to be to much just take it out of the main until you are ready to re-add it and you can check the other tab from time to time to see what was said or if it stopped. That is pretty much what I do when people start rolling AE LFG spam through the request channel. I move it from the main into the broadcast tab.

Unless you are asking for a Server wide channel that is dedicated to LFG/LFT and for Broadcast to be policed. I don't exactly agree with that idea. [Translation: /unsigned] If that isn't what you are alluding to, then my apologies. It just read that way to me.

Yes spam is annoying, but this does not seem like that big of an issue since you have the option to customize your chat to filter Broadcast out of the main chat.

Then again to be fair: Nothing is stopping someone for pointing out the user run public channels dedicated to LFG on each server. And nothing is stopping anyone from making AE only LFG channels on the servers either and promoting them ouside of the "normal" LFG [Usually missions/SF/TFs specific.] channels.

Just my thought on it.
Feel free to agree or disagree as you see fit.
More power to you on whatever point of view you have.

So people would just step onto the balcony of AE to broadcast, or just outside the building. I think this suggestion solves nothing.

OK, so obviously this is a very unpopular suggestion. I'll just move the broadcast channel to another tab, problem solved.

But enlighten me, please, what amazingly valuable nuggets do you feel compelled to broadcast from within the AE, other than the LFT/LFM messages which should either be done via Local or via tells after searches?

Answering questions asked in broadcast by people outside of the AE building.
