Message from Positron- Welcome Reactivated Players

Welcome!

I want to formally welcome back any and all players who have returned to City of Heroes/Villains during this reactivation weekend. I hope that you enjoy your time with old and new friends, and ultimately decide to rejoin our active players in what we feel will be an exciting and bright future for Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.

Right now, Issue 13: Power and Responsibility is live on all servers. There are lots of new things to do and try out, so get out there and explore the new Day Jobs, Pact Leveling, Shield and Pain Domination powersets, and more! We’ve made a ton of changes to powers, so a Free Respec has been granted to all characters. I know we didn’t give much notice on this Freespec, so to make up for that, and in the spirit of the season, another free respec will be given out before the end of December. Remember, these don’t stack, so if you want to take advantage of both, you need to use the one you have currently before we issue the next one sometime after Dec. 21st.

Costume Tokens have been issued to all characters, one token per Costume Slot you have unlocked. These allow you a free trip to the Tailor/Facemaker in the game to try out all the new “Day Job” related costume pieces we have put into Issue 13.

If you haven’t tried PvP in a while you might find some new changes to the system enticing. I encourage anyone who has wanted to try the system to give it a chance. To those of you who were happy with how the old system worked, I have some good news for you. We have designed an Arena Options system that will allow the user to create a unique experience using some aspects of the pre-Issue 13 PvP along with the newly introduced changes. This will allow for more dynamic user controlled experiences to occur in the Arena environment. We expect to have this on the training room very soon.

Again, welcome to the new Issue. We hope you enjoy the stay!

Wow great news on the arena stuff, can't wait to see it!

I assume you won't be able to set up matches that are totally like they were pre-i13, but maybe close?

(Oh, i believe you need to edity your post Ex: Something along the lines of "Wow, Jawbreaker posted first on one of my threads!" since i don't do the whole "1st post after a redname thing )

I'm glad to hear about the proposed arena options.

I just wish it didn't have to come at such a high cost.

Thank you for the freespec reissue and notice.

Thanks, NC Soft, for closing my favorite game ever without warning and with plenty of life still left in it, and thus relieving me of the burden of EVER wanting to buy, try or even hear about another game from your company. Will my decision make a dent, or persuade them in anyway, shape or form? Nope, obviously not. Don't care. NC Soft is dead to me. ~ PsyFox

Go arena options!

Wonder what they are... Hey, posi, can we get the arena interface cleaned up a little? And maybe kiosks added in the PVP zones themselves? Maybe as base items too?

... I mean, while he's posting, y'know.

Thanks for the welcome back, Ex Posilibristron!

Bad idea about the Arean change. If they're so unpopular that you have to build an option to put it back the way it was, why not just... like... put it back the way it was, for the most part?

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

Of Course the GMOTD message popped up exactly when I was fighting 3 EBS (Final Agent G mission)

Dismissed it then read it after...

Good news on the arena changes coming down the line

I really don't care what happens to Arena, but zone PvP absolutely needs the changes PvP 2.0 brings.

The pre-i13 PvP options aren't in the game yet. Go back and actually read Posi's message and you'll see that.

Just a word of warning to players who are returning since I12. All the new stuff Positron mentions will have to be played on ~10 new missions (on either side). To paraphrase Obi Wan, "Nothing else new to see here."

Positron, you really need to redirect developer resources to expanding CoX's story-based content. Paragon City and the Rogue Islands are stagnant. July 2007 was the last time there was any change to Paragon. The Rogue Isles have never had any noticeable story update to any of the core zones. Adding new zones or granting access to co-op zones does nothing to the core of the game.

You may be adding some interesting (and some not so interesting) branches to the CoX tree, but meanwhile, the trunk is dying for lack of attention. Please, give the core of the game some developer time. Maybe have one zone or hero/villain group get some mission developer time each Issue. Not a lot. One story arc, maybe two. Just enough that we can once again believe our game lives.

I'm sorry but I think the entire PvP change is a well lets say I will refrain from saying what I think they are.

You lose almost ever good PvPer in the damn game and then when you realize how much you lost you give free activation weekend and now all of a sudden arena gets a choice on the pvp changes. Looks to me you lost quite a bit of people and now you are desperately trying to get them back.

Well what about the zones, if you are doing this for the arena then the zones should have that option too. I mean what the hell is the point of these changes in the first place if giving a option in the arena.

Seems to me ya'll doing what you can to get these players back. Well sorry to say it but these pvp changes should have never happened.

PvE'ers do what they want to do and that is PvE, PvPers do what they want and that is PvP. Now you are just showing favoritism to the arena players and telling the rest of us who enjoy pvp zones to screw off, use the arena.

You seem to want to slam the PvP system down everyone's throat trying to get more people in the zones, yet all you are doing is hurting the existing players who did not leave the game already due to these changes.

:sigh:

Interesting theory Beef, but they give a free reactivation for almost every new Issue. Just because you have something that really bugs you about this issue doesn't mean the free weekend has sinister intent all of a sudden.

Re: the arena changes, it seems like Posi's saying you'll have a list of options that you can tweak to form your PvP experience. Maybe you'll be able to turn off the new suppression, but keep diminishing returns, etc?

Did I read that right? If so, that's a fantastic idea, just in general. Doing that should give you a lot of data on what works and what doesn't.

It would be even better if you could have finer control over those options, e.g. control the severity of diminishing return curves, the speed penalties of suppression, etc. That's probably too complicated for the interface, though.

It sounds like a half-hearted appeasement to me, and I don't like the way it was 'thrown' out there. It felt insincere. And, for good measure, it angers and offends me. I still have not seen nor heard some type of end justification as to why PvP 2.0 is there, or what it means to future gaming. As a paying customer / investor in this little escape, I would like to hear or read the reasons as to why.

But with my mood lately with the disappointment of Issue 12 and now this?

They have stated their reasons for the changes. They are trying to get PVP to appeal to a larger audience. The fact that it alienated the existing PVP player didn't escape their notice, but they apparently believe these changes will end up in a net gain in PVP players. The fact that you are angered and offended over this... well, sorry. I think you take the game far too seriously if you are that bothered by it.

The fact that you pay for access to the game does not mean you get any voice in the development of said game. You are not an "investor". You are a customer. One single customer. You can influence the development of the game by either paying your subscription, or not paying your subscription if you feel the game is going in the wrong direction.

Do I think you should shut up? Well, on a personal level, yes, but only because I get tired of the incessant whining on this subject. However, I do NOT presume to TELL you to shut up. You have every right to voice your opinions, just as I do. Honestly I have no vested interest in PVP. I have never understood the appeal of it as more than a side benefit for when I want something else to do. Ever since the changes were made, I have watched player after player basically guarantee that they are going to be ignored, by acting like spoiled brats. There are a number of PVP people who have remained calm and logical in their explanations of why they feel the changes were bad. I feel badly for them that they were not able to make more of an influence. Those are the kind of people though that are more likely to MAKE an effect, in the long term, if not the short term. Whining and being "offended" and essentially saying "I'm taking my toys and going home!" is not exactly a mature way to get anything accomplished.

As far as the arena thing being a half-hearted appeasement... I really have no clue why people have to read something negative into everything. They have already said that PVP 2.0 is the way things are going to be. Yes, adding these options back into the Arena IS an appeasement. Rather than seeing it as a half-hearted thing, or a "slap in the face", why is it that people can't see it as what it appears to me: an attempt to give the players at least some of what they want, WITHOUT forcing the devs to backtrack on the path they have decided on.

Take these comments however you like. I don't truly mean to be offensive, though I know it will come across that way. I just can't think of any way to be particularly nice about it. Also, this is not directed only to you. There are any number of people my comments apply to.

You know.. As someone mentioned before me..They reactivate accounts after every new issue so that people can try out new content.. Act like we lost 10,000 subscribers over a PVP change..

They didn't. It was just said that it was a 'possibility' by Castle when we asked for it. It eventually became 'not by this issue' to 'no ETA' to 'get bent [censored]'.

So, while I don't see eye to eye all the time with Beef, I think he has a solid point in his assessment.
