Discussion: It's All Access for CoH and CoV

Personally, I'm hoping to see a merging of the EU and US servers.
But that's been a pet peeve of mine for years.

I wouldn't mind seeing this either.

Now make it so that people who signed up for Red or Blue Forums can post on either!
[/ QUOTE ]
That's most likely just an issue of cookies on your local machine. If you can't actually log in to one of the skins, it's a bug, and you should probably PM Ex Libris or Lighthouse to get it fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
It happens with all the computers I log into. And my boyfriend has the same problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's just weird. There is no Red or Blue forum. There is just the forum. The color is just a skin. You can use whichever one you want. I don't know why either wouldn't work for you. It's certainly not a universal problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not quite. When I'm logged into the City of Villains red-side forum, and follow a link that has cityofheroes in the url, I'm blue side and no longer logged in.
If you post a link without the boards.cityofheroes.com part, the system will default to your colour, but nobody seems to do/know that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Be sure to log in on the blue side and save your password on that side. They are basically 2 separate forums and not just skin changes. It's something we want to improve in the future, but you should be able to work around it.

I would really like to see this happen as well. If we go to a single mega server then, I assume, the Euro servers will be merged. Until all are one!
I also doubt there would be a new box/expansion out. I think that would directly go against what the DEVS are trying to do when they allowed everyone to have Heroes and Vills. It seems like the new items require all of us on the same page, so to speak. Adding a new expansion would not keep us on the same page because all of us will not buy the new box. I assume the big news will be issues with big things and packs you can buy.
Hopefully they release packs a few times a year so we have something new between issues.

Huh. I did not know that. I always thought it was just a skin. What a nuisance that must be for you.

Now, what exactly does this announcement mean? Is it JUST another account merging, "if you had only one side, now you have both"? Or are they giving all characters full access to either side of the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
They aren't giving all characters full access. They are giving all players full access to both sides. It's another account merging like before, PLUS it applies forward to all future accounts.

I was away when this was announced. Excellent, one more step towards where this game is destined to be.
One more piece of evidence that the loss of Cryptic's influence was no loss.
Brava!
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

Just FYI that this isn't very likely. NCsoft Europe is a separate entity from NCsoft North America and the business dividing lines don't lend themselves to such a merge.

Hmmmm maybe one boxed expansion a year along with the issues? They could call it the Trade Paperback Edition Vol. 1......

When we were speculating about boxed expansions after the announcement last year, I said that, if they were published approximately yearly, they should be called Annuals.

check your math 2007 does not equal 2008, so it was two issues in 2007 one issue in 2008.

The poster I was responding to didn't say "We've only had 1 issue in 2008." He said we'd only had 1 issue in "a year's time." Thus, he was clearly wrong and my statement is clearly correct.

I have not read the entire thread yet, just the announcement. Has this already happened, or have they announced that they're going to do it?
They already merged accounts once before. So only accounts activated after that date would have had limited access. So that alone isn't a huge step. However, NC Soft's web site is STILL selling the games individually.
Now, what exactly does this announcement mean? Is it JUST another account merging, "if you had only one side, now you have both"? Or are they giving all characters full access to either side of the game?
Either way, this is the death knell for the game I enjoyed. City of Villains, already all but abandoned in the last two years, will now never see exclusive content again. It's time to finally accept the facts, and cancel my account. *MY* game is dead.

So now that CoH and CoV are the same game, would it be possible to get some balance for content?
The villians have so many fewer zones, so many fewer Task forces and less of everything except class.
What have the villains got for new zones or zone revamps that are NOT shared zones?
As far as I know... errr.. anyone? anyone?
[/ QUOTE ]
At least one story arc for EVERY content, little zone hopping for missions, enriching stories. City of Heroes you have to work for Story arcs(To find them outside of the game as they don't announce it). Because of the story arcs I play CoV much mroe than CoH even thoguh I love playing defenders.

I think they are serious:

For any that feel the same way:
Please donate your "stuff" to people that enjoy both factions before you leave. Thank you.
Triumph: White Succubus: 50 Ill/Emp/PF Snow Globe: 50 Ice/FF/Ice Strobe: 50 PB Shi Otomi: 50 Ninja/Ninjistu/GW Stalker My other characters
This announcement makes me think that the bulk of, if not all, future content will be co-op. I think it'd be interesting if they kept the ATs to their respective “faction” but allowed them to start in Atlas, Galaxy OR Mercy, with contacts every few levels a la the VEATs to guide you along your extended hiding-out-in-enemy-territory arc. No extra PVP, mind you. And you'd probably need to have like unlocked epics on both sides to be able to do it or something. And there are more than enough demons, anti-heroes, and Lord Dark von Darkitydarks running around Paragon that it would be reasonable. Same thing with Mercy and all the anti-heroes, heroes masquerading as villains, and even heroes trying to clean up the place over there.
[ QUOTE ]
A combined game + branching missions + create-a-mission = there are no "villains" or "heroes", there are just characters and the choices they make.
It sounds to me like CoX could evolve into something similar to Bioware RPGs, where we can slide between light and dark based on the choices we make.
Sounds good to me!
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd love to see that too, but I don't think that'll be in happening officially here. I do plan on having the bulk of my player made missions follow the multiple choice solution set up, but we'll see.
Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.

Basically, IIRC, the two "colors" are mirrors of each other (one at cityofheroes.com, and one at cityofvillains.com) so the cookies only work for one of them.

I'm not sure if literal side-switching is coming soon, but a related possibility I can see is cross-zoning. The devs could make hero-side missions that take place in the Rogue Isles, and vice-versa, and heroes and villains would in effect be playing in the same zones, not entirely different from running opposite-side missions in Sirens or Warburg. It would in effect double the amount of game area that each player could roam in, without diluting the playerbase any further into a larger number of actual zones.
There is an obvious story conceit available to implement this from a story-perspective. For every contact that currently exists hero-side and villain side, the devs could script in its anti-contact. Villains get to run the version where the villain triumphs, and heroes get to run the alternate version where the heroes stop them (philosophical question: is the anti-Phipps arc one where the hero prevents a lot of nastiness from happening, or is the anti-Phipps arc the one where the hero tries but ultimately fails to stop a lot of nastiness from happening?)
[/ QUOTE ]
The reason I think side-switching is more likely than cross-zoning is that side-switching means the dev time has to be spent retooling things so that a character can hop from blueside to redside (say) but then play the content as normal. Cross-zoning requires a lot more fiddly work - creating the anti-contact, making sure they fit within the lore, creating new missions, etc. Side-switching would require a lot of work, but once it would be (generally) all up front - cross-zoning would require a lot more attention to detail.
As for market merging: if you can side-switch, characters can visit the market they prefer to visit. But at the same time, it probably removes a reason to not merge the markets given that the side barrier would be reduced. IF side-switching came in, I think merging the markets is a good idea, but it would suddenly become less necessary. IF side-switching ISN'T available, my objections to market merging remains (i.e. long-term, villain players would get screwed) without other systems going into place (e.g. price caps on salvage / recipes).
Also: with Positron's "announcement" of Patron Power respecs, it makes sense if side-switching was allowed and villains were able to get access to the APPs (also: heroes able to get the PPPs).
I'm going to be very surprised if side-switching isn't on the cards for I13. It's one of those long-requested things that would make most of the playerbase happy and allow for new types of content development. Such as, I don't know, ATs that aren't linked to a particular side (c'mon Blood of the Black Stream!).

Will those of us who purchased City of Villains and the additional content actually receive some sort of "game" compensation for what have essentially become redundant purchases?
[/ QUOTE ]
You have already received the compensation - you already have access to it, and have for some time.
And why would you get compensation for addition content bought? They are not giving access to that away for free.

It'd be nice if the long long long ago concent of CoH being free style when choosing powers etc was to be implemented (ie Archetypes becoming only an inherent power set up and nothing more) but I don't think they're gonna go this route.
