Discussion: Comic Con - San Diego July 23-27th

That's why I think the exclusive in-game item is going to be something inconsequential, like a "Fanboy"/"Fangirl" badge or some such. I can't imagine they're going to give away access to an exclusive power, or even an exclusive costume piece, unless it's something silly like the Comic-Con "Eye" emblem.

I'd pay for a Fanboy badge title.
but that's just me.

And I thought folks would be sad they were missing our party!
I'm here to clarify a few things that have been brought up in this thread.
1) You must be an attendee of Comic Con to get a pass.
2) You do not have to be +21 to get a pass.
3) You must be +21 to attend the party which is at a local club in San Diego.
4) There are 1000 passes, so it is first come first serve, although we will allot a certain amount daily.
5) There are also 1000 passes to the party that do not have an exclusive item for non-subscribers.
It is always tough in Community Development and building to please everyone. If we had to do this we would ultimately do nothing.
We understand the concerns, and the unsettled feelings, however we are going to take advantage of the opportunities we have to do fun and dynamic events when we are able. Ultimately growth and success of events like this will mean growth and success for future events and we have to start somewhere.
Again if anyone has any concerns please feel free to drop me a line at exlibris@ncsoft.com.

Aw come on. My dad is not gonna drive me down to San Diego for some stupid pass... Oooh.. maybe I'll convince him to take me to Comic Con and he can go to that party and he'd have a reason to go.

LULZ...discrimination against young whippersnappers (btw, I'm 27), has been and always will be part of human history. As long as there is sexeh time, there will always be chilluns, and there will always be discrimination against youts. Plus, I GUARANTEEE that you'll be discriminating against 'em when you get a few more levels, er...um....years
Yeah, I know it sucks, but that's how it's always been and always will be.

Wow, that's a very exclusive item, less about .6% of the game population (and that's assuming the Con Salesmen don't suck up a few hundred of them the way they like to do).
It's also a pretty exclusive party given that there's 2,000 seats (minus whatever is taken by the Salesmen to sell online). That's about 1.2-1.5% of the attendance of Comic Con.

Unless this is included on the list of SDCC convention exclusives, which it isn't at this time, I doubt many attendees, let alone scalpers, will know about it or be after it. I think the scalpers will be too busy trying to get as many He-Man stautes, Yoda animation cels, Dwight Schrute bobbleheads, Veronic Mars minibusts, etc. to bother with this item.

If you're smart, what you'll do is offer whatever it is to the rest of your subscriber base, even if it is for a price. At least this way nobody has any legitimate reason to complain.

Not to derail too far, but you'd be surprised. I have an associate who pays for his Con visits with exclusives (and he's known to drop thousands per Con). He checks the sites and product sites of any vendors/presenters fairly regularly and plans his acquisitions accordingly and the "unadvertised exclusives" are where he makes most of his money since there's fewer sellers who will acquire the items and he can almost name his price later on. He never would let me on on whatever his secret was for acquiring dozens (if not 100+) of a give-away item though, much less his technique for getting his hands on dozens of "limited purchase" items for sell. I just wish he was going to SDCC this year.

I am excited that I'll get to see some City Of folks when I'm in San Diego for the Show. That will be an excellent way for me to cap my visit there. Looking forward to it...because the City Of booth has always been good at other shows I've attended, like GenCon.

Rock on all.
As a note, the day passes for Saturday, as well as the 4-day weekend passes, are now SOLD OUT! There are still tickets available for Thursday and Friday, so buy them while you still can! You don't have to be at the Comic-Con Saturday, you just need to get your VIP pass by then!

You guys do know that a lot of people *actually fly to the city* to attend this the biggest of all comic conventions, right?
People from around the world come every year. It's the biggest and best of its kind.
Folks who have taken the time and made the effort to come to the con will get the benefits of the event. It's exactly like ingame earnings - just because one character got some thing on their badge list, doesn't mean all characters do. Sorry if you're not going to attend, but it's called "incentive".
I'll be there with bells on.
[/ QUOTE ]
Easy to make that effort when you live in same country as the event.
Unlike ingame earnings, not everyone has equal opportunity to do so.
Exclusive content for no ingame reason. Bah.
No expectation that this will change as it has now been annouced.
Surely there are better things for devs to be spending time on than exclusives for a tiny % of the game.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
While I still feel the way I do about it, I just want to say, Thanks to Ex, and the crew for throwing a shindig for us(read as players)even though I will be at a wedding that weekend and unable to attend. Have fun to those of you attending, and hope that the event goes well, and here's hoping that maybe the item will be made available to the rest of us later. To everyone who feels the same way as I do, lets just take one for the team, and man up, not like it's the end of the world.

Got a quick question for all, I m 37 and i was thinking of taking my son(12 yr) with me to check it out. He loves playing city of heroes and i play a bit. Do you all think it might be overwhelming for him and tiring?? Or too crowded.

Heh. Those were my thoughts at first, until I read it would be at a separate bar. There are laws about this sort of thing.
BUT
It would have been nice of the powers that be to hold the party in a location that wasn't exclusive, and just hand out limited amount drink tickets to people with valid IDs. That way, everyone (at Comic Con) would have been able to enjoy the party. Oh well. I'll be dropping by the booth for the in game item, at any rate. Next year, things will be different...

The Comic-Con is quite large and can be overwhelming, though for most young kids, it's like Disneyland. It will be very crowded. To get an idea of how big the whole thing is, here is where the NCSoft booth was last year. That map only shows Halls A-C, about half the main hall. Click the Hall D - F link to see the rest. That doesn't include the rooms upstairs where the panels are held.
For the first time, I would suggest either Thursday, or Sunday, that is, if you're planning a single day trip. Sunday is kids day, with many more children orientated panels and events. It's also seems to be the least crowded of all 4 days. If you're more interested in the big name Hollywood stuff, then Thursday will have more of that (though not as much as Friday or especially Saturday).
I will advise that you should decide now if you're going. Tickets will be sold out soon.

I agree with everything StarGeek said, including the Disneyland analogy. When people ask why I go to SDCC so often (9 of the last 12 years), I tell them that it's like my version of a Disney vacation.
On Friday, and particularly Saturday, the exhibit hall is elbow-to-elbow, and you may have to wait literally hours to get in to a panel you want to see, or even into the convention center. Thursday and Sunday are less packed, but still crowded.
Anyway, I don't think it will be at all overwhelming for a 12 year old. I think it could be somewhat overwhelming for the parent of a 12 year old though.

lol, anyone go to e3 05? Oh man... now THAT was packed.

My father first took me to the Comic Con when I was about 12. I remember complaining "But Daaad, I don't even like comics that much." The truth is I didn't like comics much, but I loved sci-fi/fantasy and played D&D regularly, so it was the perfect place to take a geeky kid... I just didn't realize it at the time. But once I got there I was in heaven, and I went back every year until I was about 20 and moved away from San Diego.
It's amazing how the thing has grown over the years, but it's still a great place to take a 12 year old. I'd definitely go on Sunday if it's your first time... then next year you can both get four day passes.
I have a similar question along the same lines. We have tickets for Friday currently but as I look over the web I'm wondering if we don't need to get tickets for Thursday as well. I'm afraid one day just won't be enough to see everything.
So would you suggest grabbing tix for Thursday as well. Our wedding should be over with around 9:30am so I figure we can get a full 2 days in at the comic con and bump the zoo to Saturday ;-p
Also does anyone have any suggestions on parking...I have never been to SD before so I'm not sure where to park. I know on their website they say to park at the Mission Valley stop.
And I thought folks would be sad they were missing our party!
