Discussion: Comic Con - San Diego July 23-27th
I agree with Johnny on this.
Regardless of who it's meant for or what it'll do, or why you decided to go ahead and do it, giving in-game items as a reward for real-world attendance and/or expenditure is just ... it's cheesy. It's something that Other Game Company would do, and I don't think you guys need to alienate your loyal playerbase by rewarding a select few, just because you're 'expected' to do something like this.
Give out swag like you did at the Austin Meet and Greet. Something physical, for physical presence.
This in-game souveneir bit is .... eeeugh.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

Hey Gang,
We aren't doing the in game exclusive item to upset anyone that cannot make the event. We are part of the show and this is part of our giveaway to our supporters that will be at the show.
[/ QUOTE ]
All I want to know is, is there enough "in game tokens" for everyone? Or is this also limited ot the first 1000 people?

Maybe you could clear this up for me, but where exactly is the Jubilee going to be? Did you guys get a bar reserved in the area or something?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, we have booked a club and DJ for the event. We thought a party would be a perfect way to end Comic Con.

Im guessing we'll find out what club and DJ when we pick up the badges then?

Someone mentioned the in game wedding, and that by and large was also an exclusive event because not every player got the chance to attend. We will never be able to keep everyone happy, but we do like to take the opportunities that are presented to us to do what we can when we can.

I have to say, this does peeve me off a bit. I will refrain from getting to fired up about this until I know exactly what the exclusive item is, but the idea stinks for those of us that cannot attend. If you have a giveaway, why not give the standard stuff (t-shirts, posters, etc.). You know it will spark hurt feelings and flame wars if you give out exclusive in-game items. Why the drama?
So only people 21+ can get a pass for the free item thing?
...would somebody pick one up for me?

It sounds like anyone can get the pass, but you have to be 21 to get into the event- so you should be okay

For the love of Alexander Kerensky, will you PLEASE show some love and come to the Comic-Con in Chicago (well its Wizard World Con now). http://www.wizardworld.com/home-ch.html
How long does the midwest have to beg to get some love here man? You went to one in Indiana. You got something against Chi-town or what man?
Throw me a bone here.
I miss the Con. I used to go every year when I lived in San Diego back in the mid to late eightes and early ninties. Now I live in Indiana so I am too far away to attend. I will be there in spirit though. Can't wait for the Gen-Con Indy our own little slice of live NCSoft heaven.

I will definitely be there, all 4 days of course. My birthday's the 27th. So there better be (wheat and dairy free) cake.

Better have your membership purchased already; they were out of advance-sale four-day memberships and some of the one-day memberships, and will not be selling memberships at the door, because of the turnout; they sold completely out of memberships last year during the con.

I'll also add, GET YOUR TICKETS NOW.
Don't wait until you show up in San Diego.
In 2006 they sold out for Saturday. 2007, only Thursday WASN'T sold out. It's also cheaper to get it early.
[/ QUOTE ]
Saturday is sold out now, as are four-day memberships; they are about 40% sold out for Friday, 25% for Thursday, and 20% for Sunday. Their website also cautions, "No onsite membership badges will be sold!". So if you don't have your membership when you get there, you wasted your time and money.

What rubs me the wrong way about this is that the NY Comic Con was (paraphrasing Lighthouse) not in the NC budget AND not a good marketing opportunity. I can understand NC staying on the left coast for this con, but to give away an in-game item at just this con is just, well, wrong to me.
Not being able to attend the in-game wedding is really not comparable to getting an exclusive in-game item by spending money to go to a real life event. I agree that you can not please everyone, but this comparison is just not a good one to hang your hat on.
But that is just my opinion....
Just out of curiousity, what is the in game item that is being given away? And is there any other way to obtain it after the con?

Great...more exclusive content for selected individuals.
Way to go.
*Clap*
If you're going to advertise that way, why the hell advertise it to the existing player base, most of whom cannot attend? If an exclusive item should go to anyone, it should be to non-current customers.
Consider making the code for new accounts only. I sure as hell do not want to see an elite few flashing their exclusive bling unless it was for a good purpose - like adding to the player base.
If not, then remember this the next time you give out a costume token vet reward. Loyal customers deserve the bling, not a few convention-goers. Just going to Comic Con is reward enough!

I don't see a problem. It's pretty standard for most MMOs IMHO. It certainly isn't unheard of in any case.
Of course, there are some who will always have something to gite riled over.
Yeah, well, as has been stated before, the City of Universe is not your standard MMO.
Aw. I was gonna say y'all should come to another party, but guess you're booked. >_>

Don't worry, folks, they'll start showing up on E-bay in the dozens within 5 minutes of the start of the passes being handed out. All those "Exclusive" items like this end up there thanks to the "professional Con salesmen." It won't shock me if "preorders" pop up before the Con even starts now that it's been announced.

Anyone that would trust a code like that from ebay deserves to get ripped off.

Once again, NCNC does not give a [censored] about the East Coast.

...
At least you aren't from the Midwest. People at least know where/what constitutes the "East Coast". Tell someone you're from the Midwest and they say "Oh, you're from Pittsburgh?" or "That's really tough coming from Tennessee.".
Edit - For me to attend any convention, I have to fly. I have not been to a single one, ever. I really wanted to go to SDCC, but I highly highly doubt I will ever be able to go.
<QR>
LOL- I live in Maine. I'm poor, so I will not be making it to the SDCC.
BUT- I do wish you guys sometime venture up this way- I'm sure this event will be fun and I'm happy for those who can attend.
Real Question- will Pocket D be made off limits to the rest of the game players on the dates/or the actual date of the party and only be accessible to those attending the party?

The party isn't in-game. It's in a Brick and Morter club. The Devs/Marketing Guys are being "cute" calling it a Pocket D VIP Pass and the Pocket D Jubilee. There is an Item you can get In-Game for attending the con when you pick up your Pocket D Pass to get into the party, though.

San Diego is a little bit closer than Chicago for a California based company.
And did they go to Gen-Con (Guessing on the Indiana one there)? or was it NCSoft?

Do something fun that you can be under 21 to attend!
Wait... does being a level 50 count as being over 21?

In the end, does it really matter what you intend? Please spend your limited development (art for item, coding of distribution of said item) and advertising dollars in more productive and less devisive ways.
