The VIP Pass will also unlock a special in game item that was selected for this show only.

[/ QUOTE ]
Please tell us what this special item is.

And please consider making this item available to those people who could not attend Comic Con. Perhaps for a small fee? This makes everyone happy. NCSoft makes money, and those people that want this item can have it.

Well... that would defeat the purpose of the "for this show only" part.

Having said that, I very strongly suspect that eventually, perhaps a year or so down the road, whatever it is will be opened up to the general gaming population. That's what they did with the sandals and laurel (sp?) costume options.

Agreed, but then again, the "for this show only" is likely already defeated by the secondary market and by people having friends pick one up for them at the Con that they can't attend.

Honestly, I'd rather see the money go to NCSoft for buying an item directly than go to someone on the secondary market (and more money to boot).

You must have missed the uproar over the fact that people were asked to pay for the Wedding Pack. I'm pretty sure "everyone happy" is the exact opposite of what your suggestion would result in. I personally wouldn't care, but I think if they offer it to non-con-goers after the show, it needs to be free of charge.

Hey Gang,

We aren't doing the in game exclusive item to upset anyone that cannot make the event. We are part of the show and this is part of our giveaway to our supporters that will be at the show.

Someone mentioned the in game wedding, and that by and large was also an exclusive event because not every player got the chance to attend. We will never be able to keep everyone happy, but we do like to take the opportunities that are presented to us to do what we can when we can.

If you have concerns you would like to discuss you can always contact me via email at exlibris@ncsoft.com or here on the boards via PM.

Regards,

Ex Libris

No they weren't mentioning the in-game wedding. They were mentioning the wedding pack you could buy off the PlayNC website. If it were just an event I wouldn't cry over it. I missed the Wedding itself just cause I haven't reinstalled the second client for Test yet. It's no big deal when it comes to the event itself. What I don't agree with is giving out like the wedding pack to limited people and their the only ones that can get it. So if its just an event on test again that's fine. But if you handing out in-game items to only those that attend your little party, that is just wrong. If your all going to be that exclusive I may not renew in Novemeber when my subscription is set to renew.

I said it before and I'll say it again - I just don't understand why someone would deprive themselves of the enjoyment they get from playing an awesome game just because they can't get one dinky little item that would most likely not enhance their gaming experience in the least anyway.

Principle, for one. If a company does something (or a seires of somethings) you don't like for whatever reason, the most reasonable reactions are: 1) Forget it because it's inconvenient to do something about it, 2) Cease to do business with that company, even if it does cause you some inconvenience, 3) Find like minded individuals and call a boycott.

This is the only power the consumer has over a corporation. If enough people do it, the comporation suffers (possibly to the point of dying off) or changes it's tact. One person leavign over something isn't much, 10,000 is, and 1000 leaving over each of 150 "small things" is the entire population of the game.

The poster in question has done a partial "3" by posting an intention to leave, it's also a call to like minded individuals that the same can be done by them for a unified front. The hope is enough will do the same and the Devs will get the message and change their tact before anyone has to do something "drastic" like leaving.

So, if someone wants to vote with their money, let them, it's their right, just as it's everyone's right to continue their subs if they still like how the game is run. I even encourage such, in fact.

And I fail to understand why you need to understand. Isn't it enough that it upsets people and that the fix is really, really simple? Why wouldn't you wish this item on everyone!

I don't "need" to know, I'm just curious why someone would have such an extreme reaction to something that is, IMO, so minor, and innocent. This isn't like threatening to boycott the NFL if they announce that all games will be available only on a PPV basis, or boycotting Texaco after they announce that they will immediately begin pumping all petroleum refining byproducts directly into the Gulf of Mexico.

Anyway, I'm now going to bow out of further discussion on the topic. IMO this thread has gone so far out of whack over what I consider (and would consider, even if I wasn't going) a cool little gesture from the management of NCSoft. Anything else I say about it would only add more fuel to fire.

That's fine, and I completely respect that decision. But I really, really wish you had answered my question first, because it applies to all of the vitriolic responses in support of this marketing decision. Why do you care so much that there should be an exclusive SDCC item??

Here is a question that maybe I missed. If I only go to the con on sunday, I am active military and cannot go any other days, will I still get the in game badge even tho the "special event" is saturday night?

Presumably no, since the event's the night before, and you'd have to have gotten the pass before then to attend.

I figured as much, but they did say they would be there all weekend giving out the badge just thought I would ask.

You got duty that whole weekend? Is there anybody who'd be willing to switch with you? I know when I was in I might get lucky enough to find someone willing to switch duty days with me.

Another alternative, if you ahve leave time. take a couple days leave, give them some BS about family or something.

Whike Zek's answer is most likely correct, it wouldn't hurt to PM Ex with your situation, it MIGHT help (doubtful, but possible). Although, Ex is likely already snowed under and digging out slowly from the storm of PMs on that very subject.

The CoX staff has been very good about these kinds of things and if it's in their power, I can see them being cool about this. The only thing I can see is if the event is so popular that they're all gone.

Does Cuppa make it to Comic Con?

She did last year, or maybe it was the year before. She works with Tabula Rasa so she was there promoting that.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding something. It sounds to me like the VIP Pass with the ingame item is only being distributed on Saturday, right? I noticed that Saturday is sold out for the Convention.

Sweet! Hopefully she'll be there again.

Although she may start to believe that Londer and I are stalking her. We're not... really...

It sounds like, from this post that they will be handing out so many of the VIP passes/game codes each day, including Preview night. Obviously I don't know about Sunday though.

We understand the concerns, and the unsettled feelings, however we are going to take advantage of the opportunities we have to do fun and dynamic events when we are able. Ultimately growth and success of events like this will mean growth and success for future events and we have to start somewhere.

May I suggest the East Coast? Srsly, east of the Mississippi would be a good start for you guys. Us Right Coasters're feelin' NO love from y'all, and all we wanna do is buy you beers.

(And get in-game items. But I digress.)

Turgenev, try living in the midwest, Missouri specifically. We don't see Cons, period. If I want to attend a Con of any kind I have to drive at least 3 hours to Kansas City or St. Louis or half a day to Tulsa. Springfield (MO) hasn't had a Con of anykind in 15 years. And with gas prices the way they are right now it better be a really special Con to get me to drive to KC, St. Louis, or Tulsa.

Lighthouse, will this Pocket D VIP Pass be handed out on other days beside Saturday? Saturday is sold out, but I think I can make it there for Friday.
