Bram, you MIGHT want to delete the contents of your post, as this is NOT the place to post that sort of thing.

Additionally, your "suggestions" in your sig aren't "suggestions", they're physical impossibilities.

Btw anyone (even those of us not invited to play during closed beta) can see the combos, and that some weapons do not display.

All I know it that as soon as I switched from time cards to paying for a larger period of time with a credit card, I received a issue beta invite that day, only a couple days before the issue went into open testing.

Both me and my son have gotten beta invites since I8, both our accounts are paid by game cards.

I say its just random, like they say

Lighthouse said it's perfectly okay to post about stuff everyone has access to.

Seems a few people managed to get "in" unintentionally...

Wonder what was up with that.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

So actually playing on test more than once in a great while is a silly reason for being invited to closed beta? Giving concise, useful bug reports about what you encounter in the test server is a silly reason to beta test the game? Would you give someone a backstage pass to a concert if the person never bought one of their CD's or merchandise, if you had the choice to give it to someone else who would appreciate it?

Sorry. You have to show you want it before they give it to you. Asking nicely isn't good enough.

[/ QUOTE ]

None of which are the crap I'm talking about and none of which seem to have any bearing on who is selected for beta.

If "showing you want it" means having paid for X months ahead of time, then fine, that's how it seems to work.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sure it does, Lighthouse mentioned one of the selection factors was logging onto test recently. So from the two criteria he listed I expect it went something like this.

1. select a group from previous beta tests.
2. select additional players from the group of people who had recently logged onto test.

[/ QUOTE ]

How does either of those have anything to do with how you pay for your subscription?

All I know it that as soon as I switched from time cards to paying for a larger period of time with a credit card, I received a issue beta invite that day, only a couple days before the issue went into open testing.

Sounds like a halfassed selection process to me.

[/ QUOTE ]dude, im on a six month setup, and no invite, go fish.

Its a pretty damn big coincidence.

Doesn't matter, the whole mystery group of beta testers is a ridiculous and should never have been started.

Agreed. I had my hopes up until that follow up email from Lighthouse (Damn you, Lighthouse! Damn You!) which once again told me I wasnt privy to the secrets once again.
The whole closed beta and select few being chosen just makes those who are left to stand outside bitter and frustrated, especially if the same people are always chosen.
Just my thoughts on it.

Well I've been loging into test for a time before today and that didn't get me an invite. But counter note to that I did get an invite to a new game not released yet called Exteel. So hey I guess I should be somewhat happy.

[/ QUOTE ]i agree, i logged in on sunday, had a hunch this might be the day so i wanted to be up to date, but im assuming the last logged on pool was a random one, they pulled from those who logged on, not everyone who logged. i am not that concerned, i cared primarily about weapons customization, and i can look at it already, so ill gladly get in open beta later on when its already been combed through a few times for bugs, id like to be in closed beta, but no biggie. they claim that this should be a short closed cycle. i dunno, weapon customization might lead to some tech issues, so im not setting my hopes too high, but if true, we wont be have nots too long anyhow.

Very much agreed with both these statements. Quite frankly there is a lot of goodwill being squandered here. I don't care if it is closed for a day or months, the excuse being given is not good enough.

Someone mentioned a catch-22, implying that to get into the closed beta you have to have been in the previous closed beta. Quite honestly they are right.

No player should be in two closed betas in a row.

To do this only breeds resentment for those that do not have a chance.

This has been evident since Issue 7. The forums go nuts with prankers/trolls because they are bored. It has has happened with every closed beta.

Then there are the problems that get found in open beta that do not get changed because "it is too late to do anything about that."

Selection to be included in the closed beta test of Issue 11 is pretty straightforward. We have selected testers who were helpful with previous closed betas and also included accounts who had recently logged into the Training Room.

[/ QUOTE ]

Anyone else see the "Catch-22" in the above-mentioned quote?

[/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much.

I can probably name quite a few of the people who have been invited yet again.

Guess there's no Bug Hunters for the rest of us. *shrug*

[ QUOTE ]

I'm thinking, to get a diverse pool of testers

[/ QUOTE ]

The problem is, it's the SAME people getting picked pretty much every time. Not seeing much diversity when someone else could provide a different point of view. Instead, a select bunch get a MUCH bigger say in the direction of the game. And no, once it hits Open Beta, it's essentially done. No really major changes will likely get put in.

And no, this isn't a whine that I didn't get in. The only reason I'd want to, is to get a fair shot at Bug Hunter. I prefer not to spoil myself on content on Test. And yes, I've been on Test a few times, notably for special events like CJ's going away party, sometimes to test out a respec.

Maybe they should monitor who reports bugs and posts on CB forums. That way anyone not participating will get booted from next CB so new people can try.

Worse, it's simply not true. Look what Lighthouse said:
[ QUOTE ]
The closed beta gives us a smaller, more manageable group of public testers and a test environment that, because it is closed, we can iterate much faster on. This results in a higher level of polish to the features when we take things to open beta and ultimately a better experience when we go Live.

[/ QUOTE ]
Translation from "Marketing Speak" into simple English: "A small group tends to stay on topic and post less fluff. This lets us pay more attention to the posts, bugs, and suggestions. We can react to them faster, making the testing time shorter and the final product better."

The problem with that is that having been in closed testing for both Issue 9 and Issue 10 I can tell you that if your post doesn't say; "I killed a minion and it gave me 10 gillion XP. Is that a bug?" then the answer is always; "Sorry we don't have enough time to fix this before it goes live." So many times our posts were ignored, and when they weren't ignored we were basically told to [censored] off if we didn't like it.

So why would you even WANT to be in the closed test?

It's annoying to be spending what little game time I have playing on the test server, helping them for free, just so they can ignore my bug reports, posts, and suggestions. Don't get me wrong, when the test is open to everyone and they ignore my posts my thought is; "Hey, there's 100k+ people testing and submitting reports. They didn't respond to mine? Well, duh." But when I'm part of a small group of closed testers and they ignore not only my reports but the reports of dozens of people then I have to ask myself; "Why am I doing this testing thing again?"

[ QUOTE ]
No player should be in two closed betas in a row.

[/ QUOTE ]
I definitely agree with you on this. They should spread the "fun" around a bit, if only so players don't get frustrated (this is the 15th closed Beta Test and I still didn't get invited!) AND because it prevents conspiracy theories from forming (the only way to get in on the test is if you kiss the devs [censored]). Personally I'd also flag some players to never get chosen (after they do something that warrants it, or they never send in a single bug report - if you're not testing why should they invite you to test?), I'd also flag some players to get chosen more often because of their proven track record of making useful suggestions (like Arcanaville, Evilgecko, and Ikona as examples just off the top of my head). I wouldn't do this out of favoritism, I'd do it because it will improve the quality of feedback and thus improve the testing process.

But then if it were me, I'd actually listen to my testers, so what do I know?

...echoing my thoughts on it. It gets a bit disheartening after a while, being last in line each time. Granted, I can see the opposite as well, where testers from previous closed betas say "...but I was so helpful during the last beta; why didn't I get an invite this time?", but still...

Actually the number is a bit over 10 now, with the majority of the new ones since issue 8 coming from the closed betas.

I'll hope this is the right area. Seeing as how it's for closed beta.

Please...add in Electric Melee for Scrappers. ELM/WP sounds like a great fit for my namesake.

I'm so close to remaking her a tank, WP/EM just to get my namesake hero side.

[/ QUOTE ]cant get behind this, if a bug tester is good, they should get in every closed beta, because they get the job done. they do these closed betas to get bugs fixed, not to give people a chance to play with new toys, im all for mixing around the pool a bit(and this has nothing to do with me not getting picked for the third time in a row:P) but its just madness to say that if someone's doing a job well, they should'nt be called back to do the job right again.
