Lighthouse stated in the first post what they are currently using to select closed beta testers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes but isnt that obvious?

I was only wondering what their method was since I hadnt seen them post anything like it before.

We have e-mail notification going out to that group of testers shortly, but if you patch up and can connect and log all the way on to the Training Room Test Server, well then you are in.

[/ QUOTE ]

So am I correct in saying that the majority of the testers probably haven't gotten a notification yet?

[/ QUOTE ]

Correct. The e-mail spooling just got going about an hour ago.

unsure if this is best to say it, but found a bug already, was looking through costume options, and gladius under dual blades is not showing as visable in hero creator, please delete this and move it as nessasary as I haven't checked to see if I'm in closed beta. it looks like I'm holding air though.

[/ QUOTE ]

some of the katanas are not matching right with hands either. and the gladius seems to be not in the game yet, havent had it show up at all, and on dual blades the kopesh and the short ghurka blades(forget their name) are bugged right now too.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm pretty sure that neither of you guys are supposed to be discussing that here. Should there be beta forums you can post that on?

The beta cuts you off when you try to actually enter the game. The character creator is still open to anyone.

I hope I get in..even though I didn't beta test before nor have i been on test server lately.....

Oh neat - so I could copy a toon over and then do weapon customization if I wanted to, even without a beta invite?

[/ QUOTE ]

No. You can't actually play any of your copied characters. You can, however, create a new character and access the costume creator that way. You won't be able to finish the character and enter the game, but you can see all the default weapons available... well... a few aren't showing up, but most of them.

I didnt say log the toon in. I asked if I could make him and see what the weapon customization is like.

You can do that from the creation screen, right?

Posted

Yup, you can. I did. Some of the weapons look awesome.

Some do. A few in the mace looks like they need more detail in them.

Selection to be included in the closed beta test of Issue 11 is pretty straightforward. We have selected testers who were helpful with previous closed betas and also included accounts who had recently logged into the Training Room.

[/ QUOTE ]

Anyone else see the "Catch-22" in the above-mentioned quote?

That you needed to login/play on test some in the couple of months?

Quick question:

Things anyone can log on to the Training Room to see like costume pices, weapons, and power names are they OK to discuss?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, just expect some people who aren't aware that it's public information to come back with "hey, don't talk about Fight Cl...err, beta"

[/ QUOTE ]

Great... you will be making an official additional weapon suggestion thread before we're flooded with threads about them, right?

The devs say that they have a system for choosing beta testers, but they don't want to reveal what it is for fear of people trying to work the system.

However, if you beta-tested I9 or I10, then chances are you'll be in the I11 beta.

[edit] oh, and none of the testers are allowed to post anything about the beta because of an NDA

[/ QUOTE ]

Well I'm assuming that the only way you wuold get a invite to beta test the issues is if you have already done it before. so that basically jsut cancels out everyone except the select few they chose before. Reguardless of what else you have beta tested (in some people's cases beta testing the game before it launched)

Which is silly imo.

[/ QUOTE ]
Well. I see the two beta forums down there (must ... not ... peek ... *whimper* ...!!!). I have NOT yet been in an issue Beta, and do NOT regularly log onto Test.

But I have been selected to Beta Test two prior NC titles (and one of my suggestions is now a permanent feature of TR, even), which means I've signed an NDA with them before ... so ... it's remotely possible the email just hasn't gotten here yet. I've PMed Ex about it ... we'll see if she takes those boards away from me, or says "stop whimpering and go read, silly!"

Obviously, I'm hoping for the latter. ^_^

You said copy one over, and then see weapon customization. You can't take an existing toon, and play it, at all.

You can create a new one and play with the creator there.

The whole selection of beta testers is pretty silly to start with. I'm fairly certain I know two of the requirements, and they are pretty stupid, imo.

But I've given up on Crypic/NC on changing this policy.

"previous closed betas" doesn't necessarily mean only "for City of Heroes", Judas. There's a decent chance that my very short time on AA's beta, and modest time in TR's beta, may just have gotten my name into the pool of "maybes". I'm sure Ex is swamped with stuff to do, so it may be a bit before I get a yea-or-nay answer back.

And damn those beta boards, sitting down there ... tempting me ... TAUNTING me with their delicious, not for my eyes secrets ... *_whimper_!!*

So actually playing on test more than once in a great while is a silly reason for being invited to closed beta? Giving concise, useful bug reports about what you encounter in the test server is a silly reason to beta test the game? Would you give someone a backstage pass to a concert if the person never bought one of their CD's or merchandise, if you had the choice to give it to someone else who would appreciate it?

Sorry. You have to show you want it before they give it to you. Asking nicely isn't good enough.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

None of which are the crap I'm talking about and none of which seem to have any bearing on who is selected for beta.

If "showing you want it" means having paid for X months ahead of time, then fine, that's how it seems to work.

Good lord....i11 close to beta already? o.O

Well, I hope those for closed beta happy gaming! I never was able to get the Test Server to work properly nor get it to download correctly so I stay off of it LOL.

Sure it does, Lighthouse mentioned one of the selection factors was logging onto test recently. So from the two criteria he listed I expect it went something like this.

1. select a group from previous beta tests.
2. select additional players from the group of people who had recently logged onto test.

Bummer, Beta Boards go away. Guess I'm not in, after all.

Ah well, c'est la vie, I can still poke through the new costume bits, yum!

I was certainly expecting 11 to go Beta this month, but today? Color me surprised.

Looking forward to it going Open Beta even more though!
