Happy Birthday, Philly!
btw, I hit level 35 first, ya slowpoke. -
This is a wild guess and completely unsubstantiated, mind you, but...
Rikti Epic ATs coming at some point in the future? The screenie is cool and if it were just that, I'd say it was just the mods having fun. Rikti-fying their forum identities hints at something actually going on, though. -
I came in here mostly to echo the folks that have mentioned CoT Spectral (sp?).
...and also to cast a vote for the Clockwork. The end drain is awful. Of course, they conveniently leave the CoH story right about the time you can pick up Stamina. I've never understood why the Synapse TF is so popular since it's filled with clockwork.
...and an honorable mention from redside for Longbow. It's not that they're overwhelmingly tough, it's just that they're fairly uninteresting. More mobs in uniforms carrying guns. Blah. -
I fully agree with the OP. I have pretty much the same reaction every time I get those missions. I see the mission listed in my new contact's dialogue box and *facepalm* say to myself "Look... I know who Wincott is. I know he's in The Hollows. I know he needs my help. I already know this. Now, can we please move on?" Ditto that with Jim Temblor,Gordon Bower, Seer Marino, etc.
Just have a contact window pop up when you reach the right level/do the right thing to unlock the contact a la Doc Buzzsaw, Admissions Officer Lenk, etc. Yes I realize that that would require some re-coding, but certainly much less than making powers customizable. As for the "new content vs. QOL" priority.. it seems to me that we have a whole lot of new content coming out way with GR. I don't think it'd hurt to iron out a few QOL issues prior to that. -
When I saw "The zombies have disappeared from Fire Base Zulu", I thought "...both heroes in the zone said to be immensely relieved."

The very concept of "fair" never even enters into it; efficiency is the name of the game here. Because they hold a closed beta, and have a proven stable of testers to rely upon as a group, we get issues in amazingly short spans of time.
[/ QUOTE ]
No sir. You are wrong. Community is the name of the game here. That's what this short of thing should be about - getting people involved. However, it is not so.
Yes, I understand your oft-repeated point about it being a good idea to have the proven, veteran testers participate each time. However, if those people are as necessary as you make them out to be then put them on the payroll (as someone else suggested).
[ QUOTE ]
Instead of being on test for 2-3 months, we're likely to see a 5-6 wqeek testing cycle.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again (as has been pointed out, I believe), you have no proof that this is the case. And no, your use of the term "likely" does not preclude my stating that you have no proof. Were you around for the release of Issue 2? Now there was an issue that could have benefited from a lot more testing. Every issue release since then has been a breeze by comparison.
One of the most difficult things about the closed beta phase, whether one is part of it or not, is dealing with the insufferable smugness of the others. You end up with the word "whine" being bandied about with considerable regularity (the "better be 14 years or younger" comment was a real gem). You end up with those who cry "favoritism" being met with "you're paranoid and unstable". Just because one person sees favoritism doesn't mean that they are paranoid and unstable. -

All I know it that as soon as I switched from time cards to paying for a larger period of time with a credit card, I received a issue beta invite that day, only a couple days before the issue went into open testing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Both me and my son have gotten beta invites since I8, both our accounts are paid by game cards.
I say its just random, like they say
[/ QUOTE ]
Its a pretty damn big coincidence.
Doesn't matter, the whole mystery group of beta testers is a ridiculous and should never have been started.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. I had my hopes up until that follow up email from Lighthouse (Damn you, Lighthouse! Damn You!) which once again told me I wasnt privy to the secrets once again.
The whole closed beta and select few being chosen just makes those who are left to stand outside bitter and frustrated, especially if the same people are always chosen.
Just my thoughts on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
...echoing my thoughts on it. It gets a bit disheartening after a while, being last in line each time. Granted, I can see the opposite as well, where testers from previous closed betas say "...but I was so helpful during the last beta; why didn't I get an invite this time?", but still... -
We need another thread complaining about this...
...like I need a hole in the head. -
I'd just like to say that Vanden (the OP) deserves big points
for starting this threadIt's still going and it is, in fact, garnering tons of redname posts.
Well played, OP. +1 -

I wish they had conferences here in Omaha so I could meet Jack ... unfortunately there's not much cool here besides me
[/ QUOTE ]
I feel the same way. Rest assured that even though you aren't as cool as moi', you're still cooler than that Gr3y Mouser guy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Havok... you will be the coolest thing in Omaha after I'm finished beating Mahali like the redheaded neanderthal stepchild that he is -

And as for hanging up the cape... you'll still be able to take it down and brush it off for a bit right?
[/ QUOTE ]
Of couse Ill still take it down every now and then. It's sooo pretty and its the only thing I have that matches those shoes!

...and watching Vyv walk slowly away, I am left wondering one thing: Is that spandex I see underneath that chainmail? -
That is too awesome. I'm curious - how did Mr. Abyss get the Freakshow to dance like that? lol
And no offense to Mr. Abyss, of course, but my favorite parts of the video are those where he gets hit by the truck -

So City of Villians is going to have shinier graphics. Does this mean that City of Heroes will get a face lift when it comes out?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not right away. A lot of the art has to be redone to take advantage of the new features, and we only have so many monkeys here. I mean artists!
[/ QUOTE ]
IMHO, the art in the game is one of the best things about CoH. It is not too 'shiny' or 'real' looking - and it shouldn't be. The artists for the game have done an excellent job of making the entire environment look very comic-bookish. Kudos to them. -

Anyone else catch Manticore dropping some kind of cloaking device/stealth power as he entered the main lair ?
How about Positron and Statesman using unique fly poses. In the original old COH cinematic Statesman and the other flying heroes use the same pose we have now. This gives me hope that new flying poses will be available in COV!!
[/ QUOTE ]
Manticore was just teleporting. And I *so* want Positron's flight pose (and, for that matter, his mid-air blasting pose) for my power-armored hero!
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed! That's one of my favorite moments in the video; Posi doing that cool mid-air semi-crouch as he blasts the baddie. -

And Back Alley Brawler thought his name got made fun of a lot!
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I've accidentally called him the Backstreet Brawler more than once. And I HATE the Backstreet Boys.
edit: "hate" not "have" - I have never had any BSB albums, etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Back Alley Brawler was originally the Backstreet Brawler. I believe it says it in the original game manual.
[/ QUOTE ]
BB changed his name to distance himself from his boyband days. -
Ha. Just got home a bit ago and started reading this thread. I read two or three pages of "Arrrrghhh! An invasion in Paragon City and I'm stuck at work until <time><time zone>!!! Must find excuse to get off of work!"
I have two things to say:
1. That's what you get for reading the forums when you should be working:P
and
2. From the looks of things, the invasion won't get started until you get home from work anyways... Six hours of downtime and still no servers up. -
All of this only proves that the kitties are far too violent and barbaric for civilized society.

It's very hard to explain how I pronounce "Tsoo". The language I speak has a seperate letter for a sound similar to "ts". However, in English that sound is more of a combination of two different sounds, where as I ponounce it as one. I can't explain it and most of you cannot pronounce it, so it's really pointless to try. Phonetics are not one thing which can be transcribed in any language.
[/ QUOTE ]
In college, I majored in Russian studies (language, history, etc.). When pronouncing the "ts," I always thought of the sound that a highhat (the piece of a drumset that has two opposable cymbals, worked with a pedal) makes. A very brief, staccatoed "t"-sound, followed by an "s."
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow, that description rocks. Very imaginative (and, I imagine, very correct as well - quite like the 'its' explanation).
Let me try to explainify this for everyone.
To me, even if the devs came in and provided a .wav file of the pronunciation that completely differed, I will always pronounce "Tsoo" as "<highhat/its 'ts' sound> oo" Ts - oo. That's just how I am. If I am reading a book and learn a few hundred pages into it that I'm pronouncing a characters name wrong or some other term incorrectly... I'll continue to use my mispronouciation simply because that is how I've come to know that person or place or thing.
Kheldian is much more simple. It's:
Khel-d-yun (pronounced as: "Gus"). -

Speak Russian, do you? Or some other language that utilises the Cyrillic alphabet? -
I think this is the first time I've read a multi-page thread from beginning to end before posting in it...
...and therefore I think I should post something more meaningful than the first sentence..
I think CoH is one of the best games I've played in years.
I think the long wait while zoning and occaisional lag caused by my aging PC are worth it. I enjoy Paragon City that much.
I think my $15/month is well spent.
I think I can't think of any other compliments at the moment, but I'll come back when I think about something that I can think about.
I think I have no idea what that last sentence is supposed to say. -

It's one thing for an unexpected bug to find its way into Live. But to allow a known bug is unacceptable in the "real world."
[ QUOTE ]
I do not think anyone has enough information to be able to speak for the majority of the players.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know how much time you spend reading the forums, nor what your level of reading comprehension is. But, you're in a very, very small minority when you say "The bugs are OK, I'd rather have a bug-filled game than have to wait a little while for them to fix the stuff they know about."
As yours is the only post I've seen in this thread disputing my claim that the vast majority would have preferred another week or two of delay while they fixed the most egregious bugs, you're very clearly not part of that vast majority.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, Mr. "In the 'Real World'"...
Here, then, is the second post disputing your claim. In the "Real World", you do not (or rather should not) make claims unless you have valid data to back up your statements.
Tell us about this "majority of the players". Where are your statistics on:
a)the total number of players in this game
b)the percentage of those players who have forum accounts
c)the percentage of players with forum accounts who agree with your statement (i.e. those who are a part of your supposed "majority").
This should be followed by a statement telling us how these statistics prove your claim as well as where, exactly, you got those numbers.
This is all, of course, aside from the unnecessary and rather inflammatory question about the previous poster's level of reading comprehension... -
[ QUOTE ]
The energy absorbtion bug is a game-stopping bug if you're ice armor and depend on it to keep you alive. The issues with dark armor that have been present for months now are game stopping issues for people with dark armor characters .
[/ QUOTE ]
...issues that obviously haven't stopped people from playing their DA characters.
I think Issue 3 has gone phenomenally well. So the free respec isn't in yet... if the devs posted that "Issue 3 is ready for release but we aren't going to put it on the live servers until a bug with the free respec is fixed.", there would be dozens of threads started by people saying "Oh please, devs... if I3 is ready then release it. Why hold the entire thing up for a stupid respec problem?"
Look at it this way... back in Nov. of 1993 I bought a brand-new, shiny, right-off-the-showroom-floor sports car (true story, btw). I loved the car but was frustrated by all of the factory defects I had to keep taking it back to the dealership to have fixed. First the AC wasn't working in it. Then I had to have a brake problem fixed. Then the molding started coming off the top of the windshield... all with only a few thousand miles on the car. I was pretty annoyed. No, this does not prove or illustrate the OPs theory about companies releasing products with known defects and doing so for reasons of profit. What it does prove/illustrate is that neither the company nor the consumer can expect a perfect product to roll off the assembly line every single time - especially in the modern age when products are being released for distribution to huge numbers of consumers. No matter how much you test, test, and retest things will still pop up after the release of a product that are unexpected. And yes, there are also the known issues that 'just aren't serious enough to delay release.'
Movies are another example. Movies are constantly released tiny snippets of out-of-sync dialogue, crew or equipment visible for a split-second in a reflection or openly onscreen. Any of these errors may or may not be known about, but none of them are release-breakers. If George Lucas delayed the release of Star Wars Episode III for a month to fix the equivalent of a soundless glowie or repec issue... fans would be having fits of hysteria.
