Things I think I think

I think that the forums are the best casual reading I do everyday at work.

I think the Devs have the big picture that the rest of us lack and I will trust this big picture until the game no longer interests me.

I think that saying "I have been here since beta" gives you perspective on changes, but not more weight in your arguement.

I think that changing powers (lowering some and raising others) happens in all games regardless of genre or platform. Magic: The Gathering regularly banned cards to make players come up with new strategies. It keeps the game fresh and exciting.

I think some players would prefer that powers are buffed and not "nerfed", but this is not how the world works.

I think that Jack Emmert is a great person for finally bringing a different genre into the MMO arena (I dislike fantasy RPGs unless they have a sci-fi element).

I think that the developers are very friendly and I would gladly say "Hi" to them if I met them and not start with, "You nerfed my character!"

I think that the term "nerf" is annoying.

I think that different characters appeal to different people and that "altoholics" are rampant.

I think that City of Heroes will be around for a long time.

I think that forum whiners would complain regardless of the issue.

I think that I am going to get flamed for this post.

I think that the developers care what people say, but do not necessary say, "We heard you, but decided against it."

I think that some developers post more infrequently because of their workload and not the fact that they are afraid of the forum lurkers (or, maybe, they are too busy trying a TaskForce).

I think the developers, especially Jack, are a great deal smarter than I am.

I think that the deployment of new Issues will always cause glitches such as increased Map Server Disconnects and this will calm down about a week or so after each Issue comes out.

I think that City of Villians will be a letdown for many people only because everyone has grand ideas and many are exclusive to each other. For many others, it will be like playing City of Heroes for the first time.

I think that many players who have left simply became bored of the game and did not leave because of nerfs or lack of level 50 content.

I think that powerleveling will happen and there is nothing that can stop it. They can make it more difficult, but in the end the powerlevelers will just find another way.

I think that all the Archetypes have a defined role except for the new Kheldians. Sometime soon this role in a team will become more clear.

I think that I talk too much and say very little.

I think the Character Creation screen is simply the greatest piece of any game I have played.

I think that crafting or item gathering would ruin this game.

I think that at least one new zone will be added with each issue.

I think that right after City of Villians is released (or shortly before) there will be an announcement of the next for-pay standalone/expansion and it will either be a Space or a Time based expansion.

I think that water-based zones/powers/events will rock.

I think that sonic-based powers will be better in support than on offense.

I think that archery will be a nifty set to see.

I think that one of the Issues will focus on new art for characters.

I think that the Super Secret Out of Combat System has an interesting acronym and will also be very fun to play.

I think that people need to calm down about bugs right after a release (even though a number were seen in test). I would rather the developers fix the crash bugs and the network bugs before the other stuff.

I think grammar is important and spelling is also important.

I think I have gone on long enough.

Please feel free to add to this list with your thoughts.

Great post.

I think you're right on the money.

I think that board negativity is contagious, and people love to work themselves into a furious frenzy of indignation instead of just playing and having fun. No nerf has every really 'ruined the game', but rather some players choose to give in to their tempers (often to the point of making rash decisions). Anger management is in order.

On the other hand, some people that leave the game do so from cool consideration and for rational reasons. They should be listened to (the few of them that post 'farewell' letters), because without the emotion their points are much more cogent...even if you don't agree with them, there may be gems of wisdom.

I think the netiot syndrome applies to every bulletin board I've ever read, all the way back to 300 baud telnets, gaming boards and non-. Don't let it bother you. People can (and will) disagree with you, how they do it tells an awful lot about the value of their opinions.

I think you have too much time on your hands. But i agree non-the-less.

I think I'm envious that other people can come up with well thought out and meaningful posts.

I agree with most of what you say, here are some more

I think that when there are things that the players think are wrong, they should say it. Whether it's a specific change to a specific power, or part of Jack Emmit's vision that they disagree with. It should be done without rancor, understanding that we all just want a great game, understanding that others will have different view, and understanding that in the end the developers will make the decision.

I believe that the Devs do a good job in general of communicating but it could be better. The release of Issue 3 was a surprise to many players, and an unpleasant one to those unhappy with many of the changes. Hearing "We've looked at your feedback but have decided to go another way", paired with the reason why, will at least make people feel better about the time they've spent testing.

I believe that discussions on the "Big Picture" are particularly useful. Statesman's discussions on the role of bosses help explain the change to bosses, agree or disagree.

I think the 5th vs Council event was too short. I loved it, it was a fun 4 hours in PI that last night, and don't regret the 400k debt one bit. Kudos to the dev team...

I think this game has amazing potential, and wonder what it will be like 5 years from now.

Yeah, I noticed that.

Perhaps because so many of you 'established' types have sung his praises...?

Flamers don't tend to engage their 'go' buttons unless they think everyone is with them. Lemming-mentality, really.

I have been playing Magic for 8 years now, and I sometimes talk with my brother (who also plays Magic and CoH, as well as most of my Magic friends - I CoH-addicted them ) about some similarities about CoH and Magic.
Magic in its begining, allowed you to play pretty powerful cards...
As the years rolled by, most initial cards had to be banned (there's no nerf in Magic) and then, some cards which were inocuous untill then, suddendly became too powerful, hence, got banned too..
And thus, a cycle was created...
In the end,a little by little we got to play with far less powerful and interesting cards than the game we originaly got hooked into.
The game felt "watered" down...

CoH, like Magic in some ways (not all, thankfully) began a "spiral" of nerfs/tunes/adjustments/whatever you wish to call it...
One class is too powerful (right or wrong, I am not discussing that), then it get's adjusted/nerfed. Than, the 2nd best becomes the best, and eventually gets nerfed, then the 3rd...so on and so on...
In the end, we get to play with far less powerful and interesting characters than the ones that originaly got us into the game in the first place.
With the downside that CoH is a game that makes you take on the role of a hero. It's not nice to play a weak hero.

It's like, you are a racing car pilot driving a Ferrari. Great car, your competing against other great cars too. Which of course some are better than others, but such is life...
Then, suddendly, instead of Ferraris and Porsches, everybody is driving in....Minis or something like that.
Sure, the change would be cool, it's always fun to drive new cars for a racing-pilot.
Eventually, though, he would get bored, and it's so much easier to get bored driving Minis than driving Ferraris....

Example, the Invulnerabily set nerf. I happen to think they were a little overpowered and maybe, just maybe, they might need to be nerfed.
That being sad, I feel for them.
I do not have an INV tanker btw, but I feel sad for them.
I wonder I was like those players, loving to play a tanker and getting all the agro. Then, I imagine playing with a toon for many months, and growing attached to it.
If suddendly my toon, the one I really enjoyed playing with, got nerfed or "tweaked" like regens almost did, I wouldn't like it either.
Nerfs don't make other players happy, but they do make the nerfed toon's players very unhappy.
And guess what, even though I might agree with the nerf, this is a game, it's all about having fun. Their fun does not affect my fun.

And if they want to leave the game, I don't agree with them, but I can't really blame them, can I?
After all, if they are no longer having fun,why should they pay?

You may not agree with me or with my arguments, but do try to get my point of view and the message I am trying to pass.
Even if you don't agree....

Just my two cents....
Good gaming to everyone and cya all in Infinity!

I think that it is the nature of games to be repetitive. Either one likes the repetition as presented wiith the confines of a particular game or not.

I think it is amazing, that even after playing this game for about a thousand hours, that it continues to surprise me on occasion with something new and wonderful.
