I finally have configured suround sound on my system by connecting the (fiber) optical port on mobo sound card to my 5.1 Dolby Digital receiver. When i'm in-game, the center channel is dramatically quieter than the side and rear channels. I tried playing with the in-game settings first and didn't notice a difference between "compatibility" and "performance". What is the difference between the two and what should I be using?
Also, I have monkeyed with the channel levels both in my sound card settings and my Onkyo receiver. Right now, i basically have to slam the rear and side channels at -10 level, and jack my center channel at +8 level. I must be missing something in settings, everything else being output through my computer/receiver in 5.1 DD is normal at 0 Level channels.
Any help is appreciated. -
I do not have a Ice/Ice Dominator, but i do have a 30+ Ice/ controller and 30+ Ice/ Blaster. And based on my experience with those characters, this guide is simply wrong.

Each one of them can 1 shot you if it wasn't for the 1 shot code. Even with high resistance and a high regen rate, you will still be nearly 1 shot. So my plan was to bring high defense and high tohit debuffs to make sure they don't hit us. The problem is that we had to keep them all close enough to debuff them all at the same time and not die to their AoEs. That was the tricky part.
[/ QUOTE ]
That makes the most sense. I assume you all were singling out one hero at a time to beat on while trying to contain the others inside the debuff? Was there any one that was easier to take down than the others? Or conversely, was there any one hero that caused the most trouble that you wished to eliminate first? I suspect Statesman or Brawler was your priority.
Corruptors seem to be the ticket to victory.... all except traps. Poor traps =(
I would suspect one stalker would speed up the process of getting the Heroes into Scourge territory for the corruptors. And Dominators with multiple slows ie. Ice and Plant would be advantagous.
Such good stuff. I can't wait to give this a whack with my SG. -

Tesla Cage is a hold and will stack with EMP to hold a boss.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've never had the power myself, but I was under the impression that EMP is a Mag 4 hold and will hold bosses in one hit anyway? Is that not the case?
[/ QUOTE ]
It often will, but not always. EMP has a very high critical chance, easily 50% or more. I have seen it fail to hold bosses on occasion with my Earth/Radiation controller, although it works more often than it doesn't.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um, is that the result of a crit, or the result of a Bosses resistance to the hold?
[/ QUOTE ]
That's the result of the critical. Against a large group of Devouring Earth with 2 or more bosses (greater or lessor devoured), EMP usually will crit hold one while the other is uneffected. -

You do know that the servers were changed so they could hold a larger capacity of people, right?
[/ QUOTE ]
exactly. 9 new zones means a hardware increase to the server clusters. Capacity increased in a stealth nerf kinda way! <.< -

Swellguy - your even more right then you have said so far.
Its not even as "free" as no cost with purchase.
No additional cost with purchase is usually an incentive to buy existing stock; here you are making a up-front payment, giving the store cash it can use in part to offset the orders of the non-pre sold copies and at the same time guaranteeing you are buying one copy thus making your copy a 0 risk sale. You are also giving up money now for no immediate benefit, which is a contract 101 detriment.
A normal sale is a large risk: buy at wholesale - hope each copy sells
$5-10 dollars is a higher percentage of wholesale cost then retail price and so you pay their cost in part upfront.
A pre-order ensures (or nearly so) a sale and gives the store operating cash to use against existing stock without selling anything.
Pre-Orders with a down payment are AMAZINGLY good deals for stores. Any incentive which is tied to one deserves to be treated like any thing else in a customer contract and if it seems like a raw deal the customer should say so. Acting like they should feel honored for the advantage they are giving the store is just wrong.

A nice arguement... to bad you can get your $5.00 back in cash if you wish to cancel your pre-order.
Yes, there is no obligation. Yes, that means it is free. Yes, that means NCsoft is fronting the bill for the pre-order boxes, not gamestop, eb, BB, etc. The retailers pay for shipping and handling on the pre-order boxes. That's it. -
I only hope each gender will be able to achieve each helmet. the segregation of man vs. woman really sucks.... SUCKS.

thank you for listening to our concerns about the ETC's. It's nice to know our feedback has been heard, even though Cryptic continues to score an A+ in this department.

Every time i see talk about Blood of the Black Stream, my mind wanders off and thinks about the Blood of the Fold in the "Sword of Truth" novels by Terry Goodkind. Maybe Tobias Brogan will be the leader and run around cutting banelings' right nipples off!
I'm soooooo gonna roleplay that! :P -
I have 2 suggestions to make Blasters balanced with scrappers. Neither deals with increasing/decreasing damage.
#1 Eliminate the rooting effect for firing ranged attacks like so many have suggested.
or my own personal idea (didn't read all 2004221 pages, pardon if this was suggested)
#2 Take the first blast power in every primary and add a secondary effect to the power similar to Divine Avilanch.
Give those powers like Flares and Charged bolts a personal buff based on the to-hit. Buff mez protection, buff damage resistance, buff defense, buff knockdown resistance. Make each Primary Set's first power have a different buff.
This will give these powers a reason to take and NOT respec out of. -
A little off topic, but i'd just like to say that as more information about the Arena and pvp in general is released, the more i'm flabergasted by the ammount of programming being done to tweak game balance and arena options.
If any one person says "That's all we're getting in issue 4 is Arenas?" then they obviously don't understand the depth involved in creating such "small" additions.
Keep up the good work. I can't wait to play test this stuff -
man it'd be great if EF's area of effect lasted 2 or 3 seconds after the anchored mob died. Like the cloud of radiation lingered around a few seconds keeping the mobs debuffed. would really cut back on how annoying it is people attack the anchored mobs first. But i guess that's wishful thinking.

Two weeks into coh and this is the first I've heard about global chat coming. Very disappointing. It is in almost every game and it ruins the feel of a game. Pointless to argue the point now but I should of realized coh wouldn't dare to vary from the mmog game plan when I saw the cloned EQ classes. All we need now are group ports, unique items and epic quests. Sorry to lament but I thought I had found a unique game after the run of clones I have agonized through in the last few years.
[/ QUOTE ]
obviously you didn't research global chat before crying about it's implimentation. So let me be the one to inform you of this blunder. CoH's global chat is almost a carbon copy of any IRC based chat service. This is not a 'one large chatroom of doom' system. It is a system where players create their own chat channels, which others can join, moderate, be invited into, be kicked out of, etc. -

Alright, here's my praise...
For one, i don't play test server simply because i don't want to ruin the suprise and spoil my appitite when the updates go live.
I think the coolest little thing added is the random NPC public comments. to actually be addressed in public about my victories, THAT makes me feel heroic. a very very nice touch.
Tonight was my first time in Striga Island. An SG mate and my 25 blaster ran the Peebles missions complete. Not once did i look at my xp bar, nor look at my alarm clock.
Fantastic stuff -

"CITY OF VILLAINS PC
Pre-Order: Ships on 8/14/2005"
from working for eb for around a year, i can tell you that most likely, that will change. it might be 2006 before it releases, and it might get pushed around (either bumped up, or bumped back) by a few days. this far in advance, all you should be looking at is the quarter that it's released, and not worry about the specific date until around 2 months before it is slated to release.
[/ QUOTE ]
From another EB employee, I can tell you the only reason stores have these completely speculated release dates are so customers can pre-order games and make down payments.
Do not believe any release date until the game has officially gone 'gold' (meaning, they have begun manufacturing the cd's.) -
Yep. My scrapper completed the cape mission last night, which was previously bugged. But, i think the cape mission still has the +1 bug. I had a lvl 10 controller sidekicked to 19. The mission was littered with red lost bosses (sometimes 2 bosses per mob pack) and all mobs were +1. I needed to call my lvl 26 scrapper friend to complete the mission for me.
Every other time i've duo'd the cape mission, the mobs have been even con. Maybe i'm wrong.
But thank you for fixing the "failure bug".
