EM Pulse no longer a Hold?!
Well, a disorient stacked with an immobilize is the same thing as a hold, so the power really wasn't changed at all.
In circumstances where you need the same effect to stack, like, against Hamidon, bosses, PvP - it does matter.
So, anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
The defender version always was a hold but had the same graphic effect as a disorient. Hopefully it hasn't been changed.
"Experience is the mother of good judgement. Bad judgement is the father of experience."
EM Pulse has been that way for a long time (at least 6 months). Ever since my Earth/Rad hit 50 during the first half of 2005 and I started attending Hami Raids, I've seen that EM Pulse says it disorients and immobilizes. And people there argued some about if it was a true hold or not, and has always been agreed that since the power takes Hold enhancements (and they noticeably affect duration) that the power is a hold.
Here's an easy test - try EM Pulse out on foes that resist disorient but not holds. Siege's minions and Nemesis Jaegers aren't disoriented by 1 application of my Stalagmites, but they are affected by 1 application of EM Pulse.

EMP and Choking cloud stacked to hold a boss, have doen since I had the power, and used again tonight.

It really is a hold, despite what the combat window reports. This can easily be tested with stacking. That's a bit harder if you're a defender, but if you don't have Choking Cloud, you can use Tesla Cage if you're /elec, Cosmic Burst if you're /rad, and Dark Pit if you're /dark. Tesla Cage is a hold and will stack with EMP to hold a boss. Cosmic Burst and Dark Pit are disorients, and will not stack with EMP to disorient a boss.
Just an error in the combat log text.
-It's been a "hold" since release
-It has said "disorient" since release
Shocked you never noticed it before.

I just never look at the thing... In my experiences, it has always seemed like a Hold - thats why I was so shocked to see it listed as a Disorient.
So, you have to realize how much I did not want to see the Broadcast to switch tot he combet tab instead, heh.
Thanks for clearing that up for me everyone.

I've never had the power myself, but I was under the impression that EMP is a Mag 4 hold and will hold bosses in one hit anyway? Is that not the case?
Not many of the AoE powers are anything more than Mag 2 at the most. Too powerful else. I'm not aware of anything holding a boss without it being a single target effect.

I believe Salt Crystals from Earth control can hold bosses in one hit, that or I've been really, really, really lucky with my +1 mags. (I'm hit a group containing three Freaktanks and slept all three)

Controllers get a chance for a "critical mez" that boosts Mag by 1, with any mez. Including AoEs (other than, I believe, Telekinesis). The chance seems different on different powers (I've seen the Sleep powers hit bosses relatively often, while the Holds are much less dependable).
Just chiming in, the combat log has said that for as long as I can remember, but it is a hold.
EMP is stacking HOLD on Fake Nemesis/War Hulk bosses quite nicely.
The text is incorrect.

I know the Blaster APP version of EM Pulse has always been a Disorient - did the Controller version get mistakenly changed? What5 about the Defender one? Has it ALWAYS said it was a Disorient in the combat tab, but not in the actual Power Description? (I really wouldn't know, I don't monitor that tab often.)

It's a Hold, the descriptive text for the hit is just a bit more colorful than many others.

It often will, but not always. EMP has a very high critical chance, easily 50% or more. I have seen it fail to hold bosses on occasion with my Earth/Radiation controller, although it works more often than it doesn't.

Um, is that the result of a crit, or the result of a Bosses resistance to the hold?

That's the result of the critical. Against a large group of Devouring Earth with 2 or more bosses (greater or lessor devoured), EMP usually will crit hold one while the other is uneffected.
EM Pulse seemed to be working just fine for my rad/rad as of yesterday or so. I hope that the blaster EM Pulse isn't a disorient though, I would like my blaster to pick that up eventually (EM Pulse + a new and improved arrow rain ftw)

According to the Blaster Ancillary Pools (Overview) by deadboy_champion here it is a disorient. I just popped over to test to try it again. Definitely the drunk walk. It also has an 800 (eight hundred) second recharge.
You can bet your but the flash doesnt have supression, he lapped the world over and over kick lex's butt on JLU.
So, I was playing my Illu/Rad controller Saturday night, and it was the first time I had played him in quite a while. We were raiding Hami, and I turn on my Combat tab so I don't have to listen to the blathering in Broadcast, and I notice this.

Tell me what you think... hope my little annotations on the image come out legible.
Edit: The image is kind of small - you can expand it if you click the lower right corner symbol that shows up (How it was on my CPU at least...)
