Statesman I have tried to side with you on every change you have made. I understand that you are a visonary that has the best intentions at heart. I watched you build my invunerability/super strength tanker from poor to uber and I loved it. I have also seen names of people dear to me changed, some very very unsubstantial, but I have understood. But here is a change I can not side with you on, this change I feel is going too far.

    You are NERFING debt.
And I will not take this and be quiet.

Debt is one of the many reasons I play this game. Debt is the major draw/focus of my supergroup, of the J-Force. If someones debt is not in the 7 figures they aren't J-Force.
I go OUT OF MY WAY to reach the debt cap every level. I have leveled in debt 7 levels in a row (since 33) I am the J-Man and my mass amounts of debt are one of my defining features.

First you take away debt until level 10. I'm saddened by this because nothing is more exciting then your first real death with debt. And now myself, my J-Force and the CoH community have to wait 5 more grueling levels until that first debt. But on this I understand, this is a kind of force/incentive to play beyond level 5 (something I rarely do besides my main).

The second one is really really tough for me. See the majority of my game play is with a large team on invincible missions. The J-Force and I get together NIGHTLY to go on what we coined Debt Runs(TM) and we dont' just keep it to ourselves we welcome any hero who wants to see what real fun is. With only receiving half debt you are effectivly forcing us to work three times as hard to do what we are now, hit debt cap.
I REFUSE to be forced to street hunt.

But after reading each and every post on this thread I see that this comunity is not made up of real men and woman. That its mostly sissy, wimps, wusses, chumps, wankers, girlie men, and even more girlie woman who can't seem to take their debt like the hardcore heros they are. Yes this is griefing of the entire community, because the many are making the life of the few so much more difficult.

Statesman, please, I beg you do not take my debt from me.

But if you do, I have one small request. Please Statesman, remove the debt cap. This way while it may take me longer (much longer) to accure massive amounts of debt I will never ever have to reach a point to where my deaths are worthless, every death will raise not only my purple bar, but my enjoyment of the game.
It has been my dream to out debt a level 50 before I reach it. Never ending debt *swoon*

I appologize if this post sounds rude, I don't want to be rude. I am just very upset at the prospect of losing the ease of my debt.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Dude. Seriously.

You're playing the game backwards, and you want them not to make changes for you?

AND you have the nerve to get all uppity over on the Tank boards when it's your explicit goal to DIE A LOT?

For serious, lay off the pipe, bub.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for quoting him so I could read it, Foo. Dude made my /ignore list months ago.

Still appears to be a solid decision on my part.

Um... baiting people to play missions? Why?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because that's where the game is, I'm just guessing.

    Priceless, thanks.

Not that I'm complaining really, but why?

Debt is hardly even a penalty, and now it's being mitigated further? Perhaps I'm alone here, but I don't get it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with you, but a fair portion of the community does not. This looks like COH appealing to the masses.

    I ponder this...

Hmm. So if you die on a mission, you'll pay less, speeding up the advancement of people that die often (and do missions), while those of us that rarely die will go at the same pace.

Basically, you're trying to help the lesser-skilled/built/game-mechanic-educated players keep up?

    Sounds fair to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Indeed it does. Since there's no competitive nature to this game, this change will indeed help the less informed player who has taken three travel powers and teleport foe because he didn't know better.

And since most high lvl blasters are struggling with debt mitigation in the late game, this will help them all enormously.

  6. I think it's ALMOST TIME TO PLAY WITH MY NEMESIS STAFF!!

  7. Great post.

I think you're right on the money.

  8. I'm a guy that likes his game damn hard, and I'm afraide I gotta agree. For most players out there, the bosses are way too tough.

Please note that I said most players.

Dang straight. Post your ideas/thought/opinions. I read 'em - and so does the design team. And I'm not such a prima donna that I can't go back on a past decision and eat some crow.

The most important thing is the quality of the game. That's it. Everything else is secondary (including ego's).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the fine post. And Michael, thanks for the excellent, positive post. Be happy that this dev team is as pro-active as they are, because it's a rarity in MMO's.

I can understand why Dark Astoria is so empty sometimes. Zombies. Those bastards are pretty good resistances. I know they are resistant to Smash, Psychic, Cold and Lethal. Perhaps more stuff but that's all I know.

Faultine is the suxs pre-travel and even punishes super speeders. Boomtown on the other hand is pretty good, met alot of people there. Fighting Lost and Clocks were pretty fun and now that it has Babbage makes it even better.

I havn't experienced the +10 side of the Hallows but I also consider that place a debt-zone without a proper Empath/FF defender/controller on your side.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the Hollows is a treasure trove of xp. It's just a matter of getting used to the hazards and paying attention when you run around. First time I went there I died like a pig multiple times without ever getting to the mission.

But I learned, and my reward was some of the most challenging, enjoyable missions the game offers.

  11. Yeah they looked cool, but they were horribly repetitive. Personally, I'm a mission man. I was so happy the mission xp was improved. My lvl 20 blaster has not been to Perez, Boom, or Faultline except to run missions.

    Probably why they're deserted now.

  13. Ah, thread number three thousand on this issue. The skyraider Respec seemed much harder than the freakshow version, but both are quite doable. Take people you know and trust, make a plan, and stick to it.

There are many fine guides to the Respec on the boards. Give them a glance and try again.

If you are on Pinnacle, I would be glad to exemplar down and give you a hand.

  14. Statesman has previously stated that there are no current plans in the works to up the level cap. I will peruse the digest and see if I can find a link to this info.

Alright, I'm up for a neutral rephrasing.

I believe that the devs have done an excellent job with CoH.
I would be proud to have written this game myself.

Sometimes, however, I believe they make mistakes. Apart from balance issues, which are notoriously difficult to get right because the playing community don't generally have access to all the information and the devs don't generally experience the frustration of playing, the devs have, on occasion, slipped up.

For me, in my experience here and with many other MMOs not to mention having played virtually every game ever made, the worst mistake they have made is in the area of hype, a la the Halloween event, for which another thread exists. I only mention it here so you have a reference that I am talking about a specific thing, rather than a vague concept.

Is that a big mistake? No.
Is that something to ruin my game experience? No.
Will I continue to play and enjoy the game? Absolutely.

But, and this is where I came in, I think that people that blame the devs as intentionally breaking the game, are very, very few and far between. Every flame I've seen on here says that the devs have missed a facet: or that they have made the wrong choice between elements.

Hence, I think the OP was stating the obvious, and didn't really add anything new except his own personal meeting.

(Granted, this is now that we've removed any contentious phrases from both his and my posts).

Can you understand why I thought that your post had no real purpose? Or why I thought that any purpose you might have had, had nothing to back it up?

    [ QUOTE ]
Maybe you should use a specific where you disagreed with the fact that the developers did not respond to a thread, such as the recent Christopher Reeve mega-thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Your disagreeing with the devs doesn't really add anything to whether people think the devs are breaking things deliberately though, does it? It *does* add to the evidence against you being a fanboi, but as you were the only one that said that, it still seems somewhat redundant.

As for the CR thread: well, CR was my Hero too, and while I wish the devs could have done something, I understand the complexities behind licensing, copyright, and Paramount's lawyers, should they do anything. I don't believe that anyone who has a reasonable degree of understanding can blame the devs for that one either.

    Karon

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thank you, Karon, for toning down your responses and making some reasonable and insightful comments. My entire concern with your original post was that the OP was never looking for opinions on the job the devs were doing. He was asking if others had had the opportunity to meet them and what they thought of them after pressing the actual flesh. I think you caught him a bit off guard with your criticisms.

No surprise there. Most posters have developed a thin skin because of trolls and flamers who simply launch salvos for fun. I mistakenly took you for one of those people, for which I do apologize.

    Have fun!

I don't think I understand the purpose of your post, or this thread.

Are you using it to justify shooting down alternate viewpoints if they're not complimentary to CoH? (when you said that if you weren't a fanboi before, you are now)

Are you using it to say that because you met these people, they must necessarily be a) telling the truth, and b) completely trustworthy in future? (Using only the fact that you talked to them and they didn't tell you anything you didn't already know)

Or are you just trying to say that anyone who has a less-than-perfect view of CoH must think that it's because Statesman et al are doing it out of 'some evil malice' (is there any other kind? a nice malice?) or 'corporate greed'?

It seems to me that you're just crowing about having gone to a conference?

I am level 47 and to get the badges I want for these rewards I have two choices: find a portal mission that contains these enemies and farm it over and over or run around the lower level areas causing havoc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

THat is the best idea yet.

    Thanks.

Choice 3: Exemplar to an appropriate level Hero and help them get XP (and work off your debt) while you both get the badge. I know... it's just crazy enough to work.
