Where would be the fun in that? How can we truly feel his intent unless he uses a Louisville Slugger covered in colored tape.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is actually a nerf bat (albeit a really hard hitting one) covered with Red, White and Blue Duck Tape. Statesman said he would swing around the office when he returned, so maybe I should be apologizing to the rest of the Devs...

Oh, and on a side note, I found out a bit of information about dual pistols for Scrappers. Apparently, Statesman is in favor of this but it would be a melee set or a very short range set while Geko felt that the players would reject a pistol set with shorter range than villians. I see both sides of that argument, so maybe we will see pistols and maybe we won't...
  2. I went to Origins this year and had a chance to ask Jack Emmert a few questions about the new ATs and other new things coming in CoH and CoV. But, the most astonishing thing was when I asked about scrappers and this happened:

I kid, I kid. I gave him the bat to pose with...
  3. Good luck and godspeed, Vyvyanne.

Like last year, I'll be attending the FANTASTIC Origins convention in Columbus, Ohio (June 30th - July3rd). It's a convention devoted to "hobby games" - roleplaying, collectible card, board and miniatures games.

Unlike last year, the good folks at GAMA (the people who run Origins) have asked me to be a special guest. What does that mean? Well, it means that I'll personally be running RPG events - specifically an adventure for the forthcoming City of Heroes RPG by Eden Studios. I'll post more details about this as soon as I know details.

So, if you're interested in gaming with Statesman, take a look at the Origins site and come to the convention!

I have already signed up to game with Statesman, look for me Thursday at 1pm . Oh, and I have a gift for you...

Yes, you can. Software is organic, not linear, it isn't as straightforward as building a house. You can't set hard deadlines, because you can't deliver hard deadlines.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Never worked in the building industry as a project manager I'm assuming. Its just as tough as software. Go to a developer and buy a house from them. Choose your floorplan and general lot area, see how high the odds are that you'll get your house on time. LOL!! developers suck!!

    Ever see this joke:
    Dear Mr. Architect
  6. I think I should have defined crafting to mean UO crafting. What you listed does sound entertaining.
  7. I think I will reserve my opinion of Issue 3 until the end of January.
  8. I think that the forums are the best casual reading I do everyday at work.

I think the Devs have the big picture that the rest of us lack and I will trust this big picture until the game no longer interests me.

I think that saying "I have been here since beta" gives you perspective on changes, but not more weight in your arguement.

I think that changing powers (lowering some and raising others) happens in all games regardless of genre or platform. Magic: The Gathering regularly banned cards to make players come up with new strategies. It keeps the game fresh and exciting.

I think some players would prefer that powers are buffed and not "nerfed", but this is not how the world works.

I think that Jack Emmert is a great person for finally bringing a different genre into the MMO arena (I dislike fantasy RPGs unless they have a sci-fi element).

I think that the developers are very friendly and I would gladly say "Hi" to them if I met them and not start with, "You nerfed my character!"

I think that the term "nerf" is annoying.

I think that different characters appeal to different people and that "altoholics" are rampant.

I think that City of Heroes will be around for a long time.

I think that forum whiners would complain regardless of the issue.

I think that I am going to get flamed for this post.

I think that the developers care what people say, but do not necessary say, "We heard you, but decided against it."

I think that some developers post more infrequently because of their workload and not the fact that they are afraid of the forum lurkers (or, maybe, they are too busy trying a TaskForce).

I think the developers, especially Jack, are a great deal smarter than I am.

I think that the deployment of new Issues will always cause glitches such as increased Map Server Disconnects and this will calm down about a week or so after each Issue comes out.

I think that City of Villians will be a letdown for many people only because everyone has grand ideas and many are exclusive to each other. For many others, it will be like playing City of Heroes for the first time.

I think that many players who have left simply became bored of the game and did not leave because of nerfs or lack of level 50 content.

I think that powerleveling will happen and there is nothing that can stop it. They can make it more difficult, but in the end the powerlevelers will just find another way.

I think that all the Archetypes have a defined role except for the new Kheldians. Sometime soon this role in a team will become more clear.

I think that I talk too much and say very little.

I think the Character Creation screen is simply the greatest piece of any game I have played.

I think that crafting or item gathering would ruin this game.

I think that at least one new zone will be added with each issue.

I think that right after City of Villians is released (or shortly before) there will be an announcement of the next for-pay standalone/expansion and it will either be a Space or a Time based expansion.

    I think that water-based zones/powers/events will rock.

I think that sonic-based powers will be better in support than on offense.

I think that archery will be a nifty set to see.

I think that one of the Issues will focus on new art for characters.

I think that the Super Secret Out of Combat System has an interesting acronym and will also be very fun to play.

I think that people need to calm down about bugs right after a release (even though a number were seen in test). I would rather the developers fix the crash bugs and the network bugs before the other stuff.

I think grammar is important and spelling is also important.

I think I have gone on long enough.

Please feel free to add to this list with your thoughts.
  9. Being a beta tester on many, many products I can say that I3's release was comensurate with the industry standard. There were no critical bugs or crash bugs. This is what holds up a test/beta edition from going live. Once those are hashed out, the gameplay can be fixed later after a larger base have tested.

If you think I am crazy, I have beta tested some pretty interesting games, like Alpha Centauri and Civ III that went out the door with us screaming, "No give it more time." Often, they would fix the "bugs" we found before it went live in a patch released within a week or two of release. This is where I3 is headed. Nothing in I3 prevents me from playing the game. A few things might hamper the fun I have playing, but that is not at issue here...

    It is flawed. Good luck.

    Care to back that up?
  11. While I enjoy normal playing like any other (and I have a main Defender I really like to play), I am going to attempt the Krunch plan for L40 in 4 weeks (it might take me longer, 20 hours a week might be a bit much to ask of me...)

    Where is Chef?

Ok, I run a restaurant in nearby Capitol City (about a 45 minute bus ride from Paragon) and I usually leave the house at 7:30 to get there so the joint can open at 9am. I have a number of cooks that get in earlier to set everything up for me. But this morning, I woke up early and thought I would help them out. I had been given a super mission to hunt Lost in my burrough (King's Row), so I thought I would do a quick check around the area and then go to a trainer to sell some of my nifty training manuals that weren't helping me out (some even came with videos).

So, I needed to get over to Galaxy City or Atlas Park to meet the trainers, but as I am doing this, I spot some Lost out of the corner of my eye. Hmmm, I check my watch and it is 7:15am. Maybe I can complete this mission before work, I thought.

So, I swallow my irradiated ginseng pills and check my radioactive potions (as well as my stash of healing herbs) and charge in. I easily dispatch the hooligans and after taking a dose of St Johns Wort and bettle eyes, I am back to full healthly status.

So, I go back to running to the tram to get to Galaxy City (my car has been in the shop since last week. The guys working on it keep telling me that a few more patches and it will be ready...)

On my way to the Tram, I notice some more Lost... Since I still need more blood samples for Vic, I think (check watch, 7:20am) I can take these guys, but I didn't notice that an Aberrant was around the corner. I was ambushed... A nice trip to the hospital and I am feeling run down, and now I have to play catch-up because Ms. Liberty doesn't reward failure...

So I continue to the tram... Oh, some more Lost to collect. Only two this time, I can take them down and I do. Hmmm, it appears that I only need a few more samples and I can complete the mission (but my watch now reads, 7:45am, I really need to get to work...) So, I decide that unless I see more Lost on my way to the Tram, I will wait until after work to find the rest.

But, lo and behold, I see three Lost going to the Tram. Quickly dispatching these fellows, I run off to Vic and get my new mission (something about homeless people in Galaxy City), so I head to the expressway to bum a ride to Galaxy City and finally get to the Super Trainers and trade vids with them. But, as I look at my watch it is now 8:15am... Dangit, I am going to get to the restaurant just as it opens.

Curse you villians for making me late for work!!!
