Discussion: Paragon Times - 70 Years In Office

I think I might be able to explain why Manticore and Lord Recluse might have been spared any Time Altering.

Manticore is a Teleporter right? What if, and this revolves around my knowledge of both Comics and the TV show Charmed... What if he was mid transport when the reality wave hit. He wouldn't have been in our dimension and thus not effected (like what happened to Paige in Charmed when she accidently teleported after a sneeze and went on to foil a Time Change)

As for Recluse, he's a god now. And he's also the "smart one" of the ones that drank from that little fountain. He probably would have realized something was f...ed up, and protected himself. He turns around, goes to Paragon City to tell Statesman, where he's summarily captured. Manticore remembering what Statesman and Recluse are, goes towards them trying to tell States, but finds Recluse on the way spouting about the time change. Realizing that he's actually got to help him, he breaks him out, and waxes poetic to the ametuer video because, well hell, if he's going to get the timeline back to normal, it might not be something he can do alone, and if EVERYONE was looking for him, they might show up just in time, in true comic book fashion, to be of help in the final showdown with whoever did this...

I dunno.. maybe it's just idol speculation...

Nice article.

I know it's too late at this stage if they aren't in, but I'd love to see the Blood of the Black Stream brought into I11. They'd be very unhappy that someone is screwing with the Giant Circuit.

Also, there have already been hints that most zones are going to see at least minor changes as a result of I11.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. It would be nice if the villain EAT was something other than a rehashed third flavor of the space squids. I doubt there will be wholesale changes to many zones, it would break a lot of story arcs, badge hunts, and the like. I think we will find that temporary protection from temporal disturbances will have been set up and maybe a co-op task force brought in for players to help Recluse and Manticore get the correct timeline reset. Things will likely be back to normal with I12. Just my take on the whole thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, we kind of know what's going on there. Posi has said that Villains will get Khelds, and that they're trying for it sometime early next year. (which basically rules it out for I11.) He also said that they won't just be carbon copies of the hero versions, so, hopefully, they'll be different enough to keep them interesting.

As far as further EAT's go, I don't think we can look for those until the villain khelds come out.

Technically he never specified kheldians.
All did was say that the villain epic ATs were in the works and would be released early on next year.
Personally I *SERIOUSLY* hope the khelds arent turned evil.
I would much rather have something comepltely new for us all to tinker around with.

Aeon saved that bald guy. He's involved in this.

I was fine with this thing until the latest article. Now I'm up for smacking someone hard with a hail of gunfire because Ghost Widow has most likely been wiped from existence by the changes.

Well, when he stated "sometime early next year" for villain EATs, he didn't explicitely connect that to Kheldians, but from everything we've seen, villain Kheldians *are* going to be the next EAT. Plans can change, of course, but there's been no indication that they have. (See link in sig for links to as much official info about villain Khelds that we have to date.)

What I'm left wondering (since pretty much all the good points have been covered already, really great speculation, guys):

What is going the common link between I11 and the previous three? Assuming nothing's changed/I remember everything correctly, I8 onward is supposed to be part of the same overarching storyline.
<ul type="square">[*]The PsychoChronoMetron is a possible link to timeline-twisting. (I8 -&gt; I11)[*]Meanwhile Penelope Yin, Faultline II, and Fusionette moved onward into the RWZ. (I8 -&gt; I10)[*]The Rikti try to sap the Abyssal Hamidon for power...er...somehow. (I9 -&gt; I10, though a minor point, I know)[*]Another lingering point is that it was stated that Hero 1 will have his character redeemed in future content. (I10 -&gt; ???)[*]And, as was previously theorized, Nemesis is quite possibly still a threat. (I10 -&gt; ???)[/list]
And, as a closer, completely random, and mostly pointless wild guessing/linking:

- Rikti came back in I10.
- The Lost were psyched up for some big event in I8, but it's not obvious if the second invasion was it.
- The Lost are one of the villains that attempt to get their hands on the D-Rifter, and are in fact the group that has it at the end of the mission, though they're presumably stopped.
- Who made the D-Rifter? Dr. Egon/Aeon.
- Who's the man to go to for time travel? Aeon.

On that note, what of the retrofitted/fixed Rikti-related content from I0, I1, and the few possible references from I8? We were told it would be fixed later, and presumably in the next issue.

Ludicrous suggestion...

What if the Paragon Times are behind it all using their newspaper as a mystic mind control device simply getting everyone to believe they never broke out or prison and that the rest of the world is infected with outbreak? Its all a huge mystic plot to sell sensationalist papers!

Slightly more seriously, what if in the latest paper States has gone bad, and only Manticore stood up to him so States has smeared his good name while Manticore teams up with the only person who can stop the newly nuts states - Lord Recluse.

Question!

Is there anything in the current RW arc that hints at some kind of time shift or anything. I havent done the WZ arc so a yes or no will do. But if you feel compelled to go into great detail....that's fine too haha

hmm, Mako... maybe this is what happens to him if he never joins up with Arachnos... and if so, what happens to all of the other villains?

[/ QUOTE ]

Black Scorpion: Finally finds job satisfaction when he's put into a Hercules Class Titan.

Silver Mantis: Joins the Freakshow. Is later thrown out for being "t00 hyp3r".

Scirocco: Without Arachnos backing him up, his powers are stripped by Seraphina. Strangely, this neither increases nor decreases his angst level.

Ice Mistral: After a brief and exciting supervillainous career, finds work as a bartender and bouncer in Pocket D, where the party never stops! Woo! Becomes famous for various "cooling off a beer bottle" tricks.

Ghost Widow: Eventually runs into the Carnival of Shadows, becoming an extremely talented Master Illusionist and one of the few high level Carnival members not constantly thinking about trying to usurp Vanessa.

Wretch: Joins the Carnival of Shadows to be with Ghost Widow. Finds out too late what the procedure for becoming a Carnival Strongman is. Whoops!

Mako: Not as mutated. Still as crazy.

Barracuda: Slightly less evil. Just as mutated and angsty.

Based on the articles alone, this is what would happen to the various major hero/villain contacts:

Back Alley Brawler is dead. New trainer in Galaxy City.

Manticore has defected. If his TF still exists, it will be given out by someone else.

Swan is in exile in South America and in questionable health. New trainer in Brickstown.

Lord Recluse did not win the Rogue Isles and did not form the immense Arachnos organization. Currently on the run with Manticore. New upper end TF's for all villains?

Captain Mako Currently a CIA liason under the code name 'Mr. Fish'.

This is just going to be bizarre.

a couple things that came to mind.

the Rikti war may have never happened in this time line.
especially if the heroes were to weak to contain the outbreak plague. Nemesis (if he did indeed start the Rikti war) may have seen no reason for it.

and even if this was a alternative reality there wouldn't have been a rikti invasion since they were an alt dimension themselves.

Manticore going rouge makes a certain amount of sense
Primal earth: BaB defeats Protean and mentors Manticore
Praetorian Earth: Protean kills BaB and mentors Chimera.
News article: neither influences Manticore.

I'm not expecting any of these changes to affect the game personally. What I see is a general theme around "What If?" that will eventually explain the in game logic behind the Flashback system. Whether it's a new store in town or some kind of new device given to us all, I think the point of the articles is to get us into the infinite possibilities mindset required to buy into whatever "What If?" machine Dr. Farnsworth... err... Aeon has cooked up.

Um...Ok...whatever happened to the rule where you cant be elected president more than twice? I am pretty sure they made this a rule at some point in time.

Actually, it's not a "rule," it's the 22nd amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. Something which does not apply to other parts of the world, as much as some ethnocentric Americans might otherwise believe.

...hell... the U.S. Constitution doesn't even seem to apply within the United states anymore...

Ok Question, if Manticore flips in i11, what happens to his TF?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nothing.
The devs arent going to rework the entire game, this is all most likely going to invlove a new co-op zone set in an alternate timeline with a new TF open to "mixed" teams.

Could you even truely begin to fathom the outcry from all the obsessive-compulsive badge hunters out there if they changed everything around to the way it is now being represnted in the papers?

No sucsessful jail break = no jail bird badge.

Outbreak not contained = nearly impossible to get Isolator badge.

Manti being evil = no Manti TF, hence no badge for that (possibility of it being retconned out of existance).

Arachnos not running the Isles would mean an inability to gain a ton of badges villain side since so many of them require interaction with the members of Arachnos who in one way or another are helping to run the show on the Isles...

I seriously doubt that what is about to occur in I11 will change the 2 games in such a way that 1 of them (red side) would need a complete makeover. It would really piss a lot of people off.
Story arch, sure.
New Co-op zone, possibility.
New Co-op TF/SF, this has my vote for most likely to occur.

[/ QUOTE ]

Mere speculation and highly unlikely. Positron and Statesman have learned their lesson several times about badge hunters by the thousands storming them with emails and pms about taking a certain badge out. They would be fools to do all that you mentioned. YOU may be thinking on a much grander and impossible scale. Not that it wasn't a good idea but unless there's been a time line variation in my world, no that would never happen

Too much public outcry means unhappy players, badge hunters being a group of them, and thus, possible loss of accounts, defeating the purpose of developing new content.

Conclusion? Highly Unlikely.

Now I entertain and support the thought that the two newspaper articles are point in fact not related.

Best way to show us that something is gone wrong is two changing incidents via time ideas! Think Back to the Future and the changing headlines.

Now, maybe this means we can all go to co-op in villain zones now. Boy wouldn't that be...fun o.o

"Hi Bob, robbing the bank?"
"Yeah, you know, thursday"
"Right, well since I can't stop you out here, I'll see you in the instance"
"Alright, say Hi to Cheryl for me, and Bobby.."
"Righto.."
&lt;Power punches!&gt;

er..I'm sorry I don't know where that came from.. o_o

But yeah. &lt;runs off&gt;

Anyone who has read Mark Bowden's "Killing Pablo" knows that Colombia is one of the most violent and wild countries on earth. Natives joke that God made Colombia so naturally beautiful that he populated it with the most bloodthirsty men on earth to balance it out. There is a lot of wild territory outside of government and police control, making the jungles a safe haven for drug-traffickers and paramilitary groups. I can't imagine what Recluse and Manticore are searching for or who the mystery "rebels" they're fighting really are, but I have a feeling it's really bad news.

It occurs to me.

Could this not be a very elegent and complex practical joke?

[/ QUOTE ]

Could be, could be.

But it does sort of remind me of a standard Game Master (GM) technique for writing adventures. One thing you learn is that you aren't are clever as all of your players put together. So you let you players create their own plots for you. You begin by giving out these teasers which point the players in the direction you want them to go. Then you sit back and let them speculate, imagine, guess all of these plots. You take the ones you like, change them up a bit to keep you players off guard, and then spring "your" plot on them. The players have fun playing. They congratulate themselves on being clever enough in guessing your plots not knowing your little secret.

Glances at the last two Paragon Time articles, ponders Kerensky's comments...Nah! Couldn't be....

That whole story is one of the weirdest things we've seen. There are at least 3 sides fighting each other: Recluse &amp; Manti, the mysterious rebels, and the columbian military (with, apparently, the assistance of the CIA.)

Plus, the CIA agent "Fish", with his shark-like grin, sounds an awful lot like Mako.

So Manti &amp; Recluse vs ? vs Mako. Curiouser and Curiouser.
