Still don't understand what the big deal is. I think people need to relax and just put it out of their mind.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
He might be posting this for the benefit of any player returning for the account reactivation this weekend, since they probably haven't read/ posted in the previous discussions regarding this issue.

I think that is the problem, actually. The constant red admin messages, where half of them won't affect the character you're playing makes people admin blind. Do you read every single admin spam? I don't, and suddenly one of them isn't "WARNING: Rikti invasion forces have been spotted heading towards Atlas Park!" but rather "The servers are shutting down in 5 minutes for emergency maintenance." That last one can get lost in the Rikti spam, and is much, much more important, and does warrent an all tab bulletin. The Rikti spam devalues the Admin channel, which in itself is a major issue, since that's more or less the most important channel in the game.
That's my problem with it, at least. The spam itself isn't hard to ignore, but it's the fact that I'm learning to ignore [Admin] that is my worry.

Eh, the most annoying thing is that it shows up in every chat tab. I have 3 windows and 8 tabs, so it's hard to keep track of when there is a new message from a person on an alternate tab when the Admin alerts cause the tab to "light up".
Considering it's a short-term event, it's not worth fooling with. Well, unless they're going to make a channel to announce zone events in a more permanent fashion. I wouldn't mind having a zone-alert when a GM spawns or the like, actually...

/agreed.......how hard or time consuming is it to glance at it to see if it is applicable to you at the time or not. If it is then great, if not....move on.
It's annoying because it bumps the chat you'd actually like to read. Personally, I think they should take the 'friends' channel that I've never seen anyone actually use past the first week of the game's release and remake it into an 'events' channel.

Agreed. This is the only thing that really bugs me about the alerts. I moved the consignment house channel over into its own tab, and when I have a bunch of outstanding bids/sales, I glance at the tab periodically to see when it's active, meaning I've bought/sold something. I've had to start ignoring the tab entirely because it's constantly full of ADMIN spam.

Just in case those players don't read the forums, it might be a good idea to periodically anounce this in-game in a way that can't be accidentally overlooked, like say in the admin channel.

The issue is my chat boxes crammed full of these announcements, and I miss most Tells and Global chat. My friends think I'm ignoring them.

The only problem I have with the Admin alerts is the complete lack of control where it shows up.
I do NOT want my RP chat to be spammed off because of some invasion that I don't care about at the time is going on.
Just give me the ability to turn off the Admin channel in at least one tab, and I'll be happy. Give me the ability for full control of where the Admin channel shows up, but has to be in at least ONE tab, and I'll be happier than a clam.
Right now though, the admin alert is far too intrusive for us RP'ers. I have had many many friends complain about it, and I have asked them to /bug it as I have.
Is it a silly little thing? Ya I suppose so. But, immersion is everything to me, and not having a way to turn off "Invasion Alerts", and that it is in the "Admin" channel breaks that immersion. However, I admit it is a necessary evil considering the design limitations of their chat server (They are unable to add any more channels as I recall was said.)
The only thing I want is to be able to have a choice where the Admin channel shows up, that's it. That's simple enough, right?

As for me, I am not bothered by the Admin Invasion alerts but I could really get behind more control of where we get them. It seems like a simple solution to keep everyone happy.
Move it to SYSTEM, and all should be good. As with most people, my only problem is that I have multiple tabs (10, to be specific), and when ALL of them light up, I have to click on all of them, so that I can see when something important is in one of the tabs, like a Tell, Team, or SG Chat.

The spam from this thing is so bad you easily miss out on what is said during teams and you are at a point were you want to just disable the freaking chat thing altogether. I have missed a ton of tells due to this spam.

Wait, I thought this was just a two week event as far as the spamming goes.
I'd say leave it out of all chat tabs. Create a mouseover/clickable button that gives the current status of any/all zone events.
The perfect location (imo) for it would be right in the middle of the XP ring. Clear when there's no zone events in effect and opaque when there is. Maybe even flash for a couple seconds when it updates so we know to check it. This wouldn't only clear up the chat channels, but would also allow us to know what's happening where when we log in. Kinda like our own personal Bat Signal.
I know this idea isn't something you can code overnight, but there IS going to be future zone events, ya? Why not solve the whole problem rather than make a temp fix for every situation?
As for a 'quick fix'... I agree with the 'Friends tab' idea. The Mayor is pretty much everyone's friend. Then just tack on a 'broadcast' type tag for the zone it refers to, so everyone in the zone gets the warning.

This lights up all my tabs, no matter what. Badge channel tab? Nothing new there, just spam. PM tab? Nothing new there, just spam. The three chat panels I have open? Same information in all three. Tuesday morning's shutdown alert? Ignored because it looks like the spam.
Your lack of caring doesn't mean it's a stupid, unfriendly design, and that it shouldn't be fixed.

Couldn't agree more. Just this morning I had rolled a new toon and was working on street cleaning in Atlas Park when invasion messages started rolling in. I glanced at them to make sure I wasn't going to be stuck in an invasion during the hours when there is maybe 3 or 4 people running around in atlas. Nope, they were mostly villain side. So I continue my hellion clearing and poof I got shut down. I didn't even see the maintenance warning because now it is just more red lost in the noise of invasion spam.
I guess the people mocking those who don't like it have no friends or active sg, because it is sheer hell trying to follow any conversation in the chat windows when the invasions start rolling. I wouldn't mind so much if the windows would actually scroll like they should instead of:
click.. up a line. click.. up line. click zooom!!! Where the hell did my place disappear to!!?!?!? And if you do manage to find the spot you want then BLAMMO! another redundant red spam slaps you back down to the bottom of the chat window again.
