we may just need better tools to make it work properly

Something like the base editor perhaps? Where you place the objectives instead of table and chairs. (This would, of course, only be viable on non-random maps.) -
You might want to check for double spaces, they're counted as two (one each) in the builder; but the second space is &nbsp in a text file. I don't know if they count that as 1 or 5 in the final count, but that may be your issue if it's 5.

Arc Name: Monkey Business
Arc ID: 188768
Faction: Hero
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Frozen Monkey
Difficulty Level: Medium
Synopsis: The Council has been seen in meetings with the Rikti. Find out what they're up to.
Estimated Time to Play: 1-2 hr solo
Breakdown:
Mission 1 -
Completion Requirements: Collection
Enemy Group: Council
Notes: Contains an AV (Nosferatu) solely for story purposes. He'll run at first sight, so you won't need to fight him.
Mission 2 -
Completion Requirements: Collection
Enemy Group: Rikti
Mission 3 -
Completion Requirements: Escort + Destroy Object
Enemy Group: Council
Mission 4 -
Completion Requirements: Rescue Allies
Enemy Group: Council
Notes: Boss can be a pain solo if you're not ready for him. I had no trouble with him once I knew where he was.
Mission 5 -
Completion Requirements: Kill All. Allies provided (1 Aggressive Boss, 2 Defensive Minions) to help find any runners.
Enemy Group: Custom Group with a few Rikti patrols
Notes: EB can be extremely difficult solo without the allies.
Any feedback is welcome. -
What I think would be a real helpful addition would be to add a single mission (of an arc) test entrance.
Add a 'generic contact' in front of a door that allows you to chose which mission of your arc you'd like to run (including the intro dialogue, etc.) This would allow the creator to test mission five without the tedium of running missions one through four.
It would also make Studio B useful to everyone, not just those with 'low end' systems. -
How about this:
-Link the workbenches to all storage racks; for recipe viewing only. This would highlight any recipes that are craftable if the player could access all storage racks.
-Add a "Locate" button to the recipe. Clicking this button would make the applicable storage rack(s) glow (like a mission objective) so the user knows where the items are.
This would solve the "Do I have it?" and " Where is it?" issues without forcing a permission check on the system. The player would still need to rummage through the bins, but at least they would know which ones. -
I'd say leave it out of all chat tabs. Create a mouseover/clickable button that gives the current status of any/all zone events.
The perfect location (imo) for it would be right in the middle of the XP ring. Clear when there's no zone events in effect and opaque when there is. Maybe even flash for a couple seconds when it updates so we know to check it. This wouldn't only clear up the chat channels, but would also allow us to know what's happening where when we log in. Kinda like our own personal Bat Signal.
I know this idea isn't something you can code overnight, but there IS going to be future zone events, ya? Why not solve the whole problem rather than make a temp fix for every situation?
As for a 'quick fix'... I agree with the 'Friends tab' idea. The Mayor is pretty much everyone's friend. Then just tack on a 'broadcast' type tag for the zone it refers to, so everyone in the zone gets the warning.
