Discussion: Poll for Power Set Feedback!
Whoa, wait a sec... what about Deflection as a defense?
I'm talking about the kind of defense that can (potentially) send a ranged attack back at the caster. With a really good result, you could send a foe's Energy Blast back at them, knocking them over, or slap an arrow back at the person who shot it at you. Wouldn't that be radically different from anything we have now?
Now I think about it, doesn't Mirror Spirit do something like this?
Sorry everyone, you will need to re-vote. We had to correct something with the polls. Thanks for voting!

Most of these Power Set ideas came from you guys - in the Archetype and Suggestions boards!
[/ QUOTE ]
You mess with our heads when you do these things.
Don't stop.
O Street Fighting
probably the most requested of all, you really need to put this in eventually.
O Electric Hammer
Scrappers need some energy based
O Energy Blade
It's ok. Energy is nice - but it is another sword.
O Psionic Weaponry
psionics are a huge sacred cow in this game, and I'd love see that sacred cow get cooked.
O Dual Blades -
We have a lot blades as is. Their is only one thing I can think of that could make this potentially interesting - having the two blades be seperately controlled. Basically the character would be able to use to attacks at the same time, or overlap several fast attack with one hand while the other performs a slower move. I think that would earn this idea a whopping big "*" though.
O Ball and Chain *
Very cool idea, kudos to whoever thought of it.
O Density Control
kinetics tanker!
O Force Field
We need this eventually, the ballista is taunting us with his FF tankerness. Just had a potentially hilarious idea - the FF tanker could have force barrier - only it stops them from leaving rather than entering.
O Willpower
Empathy tanker? I really thought of suggesting kinetics defense and empathy defense sets - but I decided it was probably to crazy of an idea to post. For the record, I think you could make a very nice blaster secondary out of the kinetics set. (by turning into a self buff set, no speed boost or FS)
O Vibration
sonic tanker? I'm generally in favor of porting around the various elements and power concepts to every AT. (no empathy villians - but a "hatred" set would be interesting)
Or is this something else?
O Growth * - Would this be the archetypical "turns into a giant" AT?
Can't we just have all of those?
O Shield Defense *
It's a cool idea, but I can understand the technical problems.
Not sure if I should vote or not - I only play an MA/Regen, so new power sets aren't really a big deal for me

I posted my reply to the weapons above, to the defenses, can I just say that can we please have a DESCRIPTION of the various power sets? Is Willpower a Batman-like, "he can survive in space just because he's that bad-***", or is it the Psionic defense set? Is Vibration Sonic, or is it a super speeder set, like Flash vibrating through walls? What is it about Force Fields that sets it apart from Energy Aura, outside of the graphics?
More importantly, where is Radiation?
I'll go on the record as having voted for:
Growth
Shield Defense
Street Fighting
Shield Fighting
Yes, three that I picked would face "technical" hurdles. I've had my fill of recycled animations after three years. Something new, please!
I avoided all blade or weaponry choices due to a) the game already having a number of them b) redraw issue (minor concern, really -- I have a katana scrapper) c) avoiding re-using animations.
I picture the shield in its respective sets as being always out, whether it's on the character's back or in his hands, so I don't think redraw would be as noticeable as it would with current weapon sets. My preferred weapon set - bo staff -- didn't make the cut, anyhoo.
I already voted Energy Blade/Dual Blades and Forcefield Defence. They seem pretty straightforward, though I hope the "energy blade" is actually an energy melee weapon that changes shapes into a variety of melee weapons, like sword, axe, pike, halberd, hammer, mace, etc...
Now to post something not covered in the poll:
New melee and defence sets that would "set the world on fire?" Easy! I've been keeping a list in my head
Light Melee/Defence - Legacy Chain already have something like that. You summon the power of light (not divinity, just light) to protect you and smite your enemies. The melee set would have a blind power (a hold) and deal part energy damage. Or maybe even part fire? Why not?
Throwing a just a few ideas out:
Light Punch: Single light-powered punch
Light Smash: Stronger, two-handed light attack.
Glare: Close cone attack of pure light, energy damage and has a chance to stun.
Build Up
Taunt
Illuminate: Close or melee range AoE, energy damage.
Blind: Single-target hold.
Light Ray: Single target ranged attack, moderate damage (Hurl Boulder-like)
Eclypse: Single damage attack, 100% chance to hold for a few seconds. You draw on your own luminescence to launch a powerful and blinding attack at your enemies.
For the armour:
Hard Light (Aplogise to Mr. Lee): Light given physical form, does well at protecting against physical damage. Resistance power.
Radiant Light: Ultraviolet (or whatever else harmful kind) of light emanates from your body, casing damage to nearby enemies. Damage Aura.
Solar Shield: By producing solar light and radiation, you can control the temperature around you, giving yourself protection to fire and cold damage, as well as protecting you against holds, sleeps and stuns.
Black Light: You emanate light outside the visible spectrum at a frequency that can dissipate energy and negative energy attacks, as well as enemy teleportation.
Incandescence: You are constantly glowing a faint, barely visible light which protects you from physical damage and grants you a small measure of protection from endurance drains.
Mirage: You can produce mirror images of yourself, blur out your own shape and otherwise make it difficut for enemies to hit you. As your doubles get caught into enemy traps, it also protects against immobilization and knockback.
Pulsar: You emit fast pulse of condensed light that has a chance to knock enemies around you to the ground. It deals no damage, but recharges quickly.
Darkness: Reversing your powers, you are able to suck the light from your surrounding environment and enemies to refill your own endurance.
Meltdown: You overload your abilities and infuse them with everything you have. This power provides some limited protection, but more importantly, it provides a bonus to damage, accuracy and recharge for a limited time. Once the power expires, you are left shattered, drained of almost all life, all endurance and unable to heal, regenerate or recover endurance for a good while.
That's about all I have the willpower to do for now. Will do more later

Reposted from Tanker Discussion:
Sets for tanks! WHooo! I went with Psi and Street fighting for Melee, and Density and er... something else for Defence. I wish I could have chosen all the Melee sets though as they all sound so cool! The defense sets though all felt 'meh'.
And I only didn't select both shields as they will take a long time to do and I'd kinda like new sets ASAP. Also, I know a TON of scrappers would love a street fighting set, and I want to help them get it. Psi is just a personal preference of mine because I want to have a close up Psi set. It would be fun if the animations, like Martial Arts, had a kind of flow or Dancing aspect to them instead of the kinda 'blah' feel I get from the Dominator's Psi Assault set.
Go go Cryptic go! This is awesome and has me bouncing around my appartment in joy!

As far as other ideas...
I really want to see the various concepts that exist ported around to other set types and ATs.
I really want some weapon sets for brutes. Claws (you may need to slow them down a bit), Katana (absolutely!), also some of the larger weapons that are less obvious choices - give them the axe set, you can compensate the slow speed with fury generation bonuses on the attacks.
I'd like to see full powerset versions of some of the "implied" sets. Psionic assault implies a psionic melee set, as mind over body implies a psionic defense set. (would that be willpower?)
Actually I guess we need some clarification on that. What is willpower? I can see at a psionic defense set, an empathy defense set, or possible something that represents a more down to earth determination.
At the most basic level - there really should be Super Strength scrappers and a SS related blaster secondary. (and probably SS stalkers) Give them a modified/replaced rage if necessary - but the basic concept of SS is to universal to superheroes to leave out in any melee AT.
I voted for Street Fighting and Ball and Chain, but would have put Staff first if it'd been available.
I haven't voted on the Defenses because I don't really think I have enough information to decide between them.
Also, I'm assuming NONE of these suggestions preclude the idea that some of the existing sets may become more widely available. I definately agree with Brutes and Claws. And it really shouldn't need to be slowed down, Claws isn't really that much faster than Super Strength. (And it isn't nearly as damaging)
In fact, I'd like to also suggest a sort of "Beasial Fury" Defense which is a cross between Regeneration and Invulnerability, balanced for Brutes, and so less regeneration. But a good match for Claws. The only reason I haven't actually posted it in the Defense poll, is that I don't think it's a very well known concept. And I'd have no trouble making a Claws/Invulnerability werewolf. (I already have him, he just has Energy Melee right now)

Is street fighting just a mix of kicks/punches/martial arts? Or is it brass knuckles, bats, chains, switchblades and broken bottles? Cuz the former is just a variation on MA/DM and the latter would rule.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was thinking you tear up the street and throw it at your enemies, but brass knuckles would be cool too.
I for one would like Radiation Melee and Aura. It would be a nice, colorful alternative to porting Electric Melee/Armor, and could still thematically keep the capped Energy resistance (and accelerating your own metabolism could be Lightning Reflexes, etc.) Personally, I think green and blue fit better with heroes and red/black clicks with redside.
1) I'm disappointed that this poll showed up in the Tanker and Scrapper forums but not in the Brute forum.
2) That's especially important to me because it's a point of long-standing annoyance to me that there are no weapon-based Brute powersets.
I can't see either Tankers or Scrappers getting Ball and Chain, it's too villainous. But it'd make a great Brute set, now, wouldn't it? Dual Swords would, too. But then, I'm still jonesing for an Axe or Broadsword brute.
I wonder - could the vibration set teir 9 be that horribly annoying autopower that Master Illusionists get?
You know the one - the phase shift that pulses on and off and doesn't prevent them from attacking.
does anyone else think giving Scrappers a Psi melee powerset is a really bad idea? particularly for PvP?

No, not in the least. Just because it is a melee set for scrappers does not mean that the Brawl Indexes on all the powers would be awesome or great.
?em holds up sign that has written in huge bold letters:
"Psi Melee for Scrappers and Tanks!"

Hell I don't care what new power sets we get as long as the animations times are not long, and if they are the animation and power effect are badass to justify them. NO MORE CHAIN INDUCTION like powers either, (By the way when is this power getting fixed?). Also make it so that the attack chains has no pauses between them, ( Like how Broadsword and others have). This is extremely aggravating.

Like the other Scrapper sets, it'd probably be mostly smashing/lethal anyway.
Devs: Thanks for Asking!!!!
It's great knowing that you listen and ask. I know that you have to make the decision based upon a lot of factors, other that players saying, "Ooooh, pretty!" But it is very, very nice to know that you're trying your best.
On the defense side, I love the idea of a Vibration set. It fits so well with Superspeed! Or Sonics! A nice change from the image of the big, dumb superstrong guy. All along, I have loved the idea of a Shield defense set.
One I would like to see most is Tech Armor/Magic Armor. You know, the guy stands there, and suddenly the armor kind of folds out from nowhere to cover him. It would be in some ways similar to Stone, but with a very different feel. It could have a weakness to Fire instead of Psi . . . I have a Broadsword Scrapper with Blue Plate Armor, but it is just a costume. No real substance, and none of the current defense sets really worked right. (But I liked the name . . . Blue Plate Special.)
I think Street Fighting is a set that has been needed for a long time . . . I doubt that it would happen, but imagine a critcal hit on a "kick to the groin" -- with knockup!
The Ball & Chain set would be awesome to go with Armor but I can see that it would be tough to implement. I voted second for Electric Hammer, since there are enough Lethal weapon sets.
Now, what I would love to see is something like an Energy Lash/Whip, where most of the damage is energy, but it would be very hard to implement.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Probably like Energy Melee or how Ice Melee has its damage. Partial Psi and Smashing/Lethal with only a very few 'pure' Psi attacks. Just my thinking though.
Yes, I am hardcore Pro-Psi melee. It is listed right beneath 'Fix Frozen Aura' and above 'Fix Greater Ice Sword' on me list of things I'd geek out over and send gift baskets to various devs for.
=^_^=b
I always thought a Staff would be a cool melee set. Could be used for stun attacks and have a cool AoE attack too.

To this end we are considering the possibility of two new powersets for the 'City Of' games.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I'd like to mention that these powersets are NOT for Issue 10, as we are nearly locked down on that issue already. They are for a future Issue and will be included for as many archetypes as it makes sense for. We definitely want to do something that the playerbase as a whole sees as a "good thing" for the game, which is why we are looking for your input!

There was probably a thread on this I missed because of weak search-fu, but whatever happened to distributing the 'new powerset for every AT' that was once advertised for the since-cancelled new box edition, among Issues 9-12?
If I9 and I10 come out with no powersets, and the devs are only considering new sets for at most 4 ATs in I11 or I12, what happened to the rest?
Not to bash this efforts, scrappers and tankers need the love first, but is there a long term plan for the rest?
I've never yet taken a hit from a bad guy skidding across the floor on his keister.

Learn the knockback, live the knockback, love the knockback!
There is some Psi mitigation around - dark armor for instance. Logically, willpower would have to have a lot of psi mitigation as well.
I think treating Psi as something completely seperate from other damage types is a mistake. The various defense sets should have their own weaknesses, rather than sharing psi as the universal weakness. Currently they almost always seem to follow the pattern of really high smash/lethal, moderate fire/cold/energy/dark (these could almost all be one damage type as it is), and very low psi and an unpredictable about of toxic. (the toxic damage type has it's own issues)
I'd love to see a set that, in a stunning reversal, was more vulnerable to smash/lethal than anything else.
I wouldn't mind seeing a set that represented the survivability benefits of being a construct (robot or golem, etc) and one for the undead. (dark does work for some undead, but a less flashy simple "undeath" set would be nice too) I imagine both of these would be significantly resistant to Psionic damage. (I would think fire would be the main weakness for undead - contructs possibly energy or smashing)

@Portland Underground
I think Dual Blades would be a cool set.
In fact there was a thread about "Dual Blades" where Castle chimed in a few times, possibly trying to change the subject.
