Discussion: Poll for Power Set Feedback!

2Negative

Energy Blade!
Psychic Weapons!
Dual Daggers!

(Ok, it's 3, but I was really excited)

The defense sets on the other hand...? I went with Shield and Growth, mostly because those are the only ones I can envision. Not entirely sure how Willpower or Vibration would work, really...

Cool Poll, glad to see player input being considered.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

Well two fold here with the ideas.

1. Illusion control clone set but instead of army and phantom get police drones instead. The man taking the streets back with intilligible drones read as being able to control like mastermind pets.

2.Superhero badge that unlocks all powers as epic/patron powers to holder of this badge. Need 1 year subcribtion and a 50 in multiple AT's maybe even on both CoH and CoV.

Yeah that second one is a new power set a epic power set of unlimited power. You guys can pick the new powers but badgers love a challenge and that'd be well worth it.
The ability to choice any power in the game cough beta for those worthy the challenge.

As mention before I have to go with Bo Staff or a polearm type. Lots of spinning and flair.

Please see link for ideas.

I always thought a Staff would be a cool melee set. Could be used for stun attacks and have a cool AoE attack too.

Again this makes so much sense. Donatello, Gambit, and many others...

With swords and hammers already, a staff just seems like the next weapon to implement. A nice staff spin aoe/cone attack could look so freakin cool. And a staff sweep for knockDOWN effect. Come on man, start the write-in votes for staffs!

Hmm....I have to admit, I am a bit concerned about a poll now about new powersets.

So, when would we see these new powersets? I12? 13?

I voted for psi weaponry and energy blade, but I could get behind dual blade, too. I'd also love to see a quarterstaff or nunchaku set, or radiation melee.

Hell, I'm just happy that after 3+ years that any consideration is being given to adding tanker and scrapper sets.

I voted for Ball and Chain, Psionic Weapon, Growth, and Density Control, but I think they should add Water Melee and Water Armor to this too. I was toying around with the idea the other day, and I figured this was the perfect place to express this.

Virtue Roleplayer!
Skyway Bulldozer Level 50 SS/Invuln/Mace Brute
Maximus Leo Level 50 Sword/Invuln Scrapper
Mr. Tiny Tiger Level 49 Invuln/SS Tanker

Oh hell yes! That staff spin about 30 seconds in where he twirls on both sides... that's what I'm envisioning for a tier 9 AOE. Please devs!

Lots of good ones there, but I'd have to say my favorites are Energy Blade and Shield Defense. Though I also like Shield Fighting ... Maybe Shield Fighting could be a villain Brute power? Would make a cool anti-thesis to shield tanker heroes. So does a Shield Fighter get to use the shield as a boomerang/frisbee?

I've been thinking about this recently, and the melee set that I think would work brilliantly would be Staff Fighting. Think Bruce Lee in 'Enter the Dragon' and the scene where he takes on about a dozen martial artists with an 8' long staff. In addition to straight-forward attacks, it opens itself up to things like foot sweeps, multi-target strikes, stuns, parry-repostes, knockouts, paralyzing 'nerve' strikes, overhead slams...the list could go on.
Visually it would be a feast for the eyes, with whirling staff effects, poses, pinwheeling sweeps, spinning turns, elaborate attack patterns etc. Give the staff a mettalic look and it would be even better!

I'm guessing Staff isn't up there because it's coming in i10 with all the other new powersets, right? RIGHT!? Come on! An multi-target/AoE SMASHING damage set in contrast to all the single target smashing stuff? I need a 2 handed weapon!!

I voted but I was sort of uneasy about it. There isn't any description to anything. What does Willpower exactly do? Your body gets harmed and you 'will' it to repair itself? Absorb the damage into a HP pool then recieve the damage over time later? Are you taking suggestions?

If so then here's what I'd like in any of those sets:

Streetfighting- I'd like a few punches and kicks in there but have two or three of the powers be something like "Broken Bottle" that does bleed DoT; "Hockey Stick" for flavor that knocks down in a cone and/or "Lead Pipe" that has a higher chance to critical and lowers defense or something

Electric Hammer- Can it be two handed? PLEASE? Ranged attack in there maybe?

Energy Blade- I voted for this but only if it was a balance between single target and multi-target. Don't give it the retarded damage of energy melee but give it far superior AoE.

Psionic Weaponry- All I ask is make the effects very VERY flashy for this. The damage could be crap but make it look good please. I'd like it to be sort of controlly in light of its lack of damage. Instead of a Buildup power, maybe a drain psych kind of power? Could even be single target if it recharged fast enough.

Dual Blades- If this makes it in, please PLEASE give it to stalker too. I would vote on making this a very strong single target set with a defensive nature, maybe a parry clone but for ranged/lethal?

Ball and Chain- If it was AoE with some range in it for Tanker, I'd take that but what secondary effect would it have?

Shield Fighting- As long as it had a power to throw your shield and then bounce off of a few enemies on its way back...

Density Control- I voted for this because I'm praying it would fit the concept of a character I have. Would it be like Kinetics but more defensive? I'd love a set that lowered your damage if you weren't taking much damage but increased your base damage if you were recieving heavy damage. Maybe a Buildup power that let you absorb the damage for a short time then use it to bolster your damage for a time. If not that then I guess a toggle heavy set that would give you protection from certain damages but could not stack? I like the 1st idea though...

Force Field- As long as it's list of tricks is longer than Force Field defender but if ideas in this set would lead to ideas to spice up FF defending then I'll go with it.

Willpower- I voted for this simply because I have no clue what it is and it sounded more natural which we need more of for scrapper besides just reflexes and more natural for tanker period. I can imagine powers in this set to 'will' a damage type you recieve to change into something you can resist like willing Fire/Cold damage to be lethal and help you resist it with some other toggle/buff. Or use your will to deflect attacks for a time or will an enemy to attack you less harshly. I'm not sure, is it like psychic armor or something?

Vibration- I can see a toggle in this set occasionally phasing you so attacks just pass through you but you can still keep attacking.

Growth- Personally, I don't see how this could work. Some mission maps are just too small but I guess that could be the limitation? On small maps/buildings, someone with growth powers would just not have much mitigation so they'd have to pull into bigger areas.

Shield Defense- I'd like a power that lets you reflect powers back to their origin but it might be tough to do. I'd like a reactive power that stops the user from attacking for a short time(like 5-8seconds) but blocks pretty much every attack while the powers up and recharges moderately.

My regenner is already at 50. Way back when (I forget exactly- it could have been around I1 or I2) Statesman mentioned something about a bostaff-type set. I remember saying to myself as I read that that if it ever materialized, I would take my MA/Regen toon and reroll him.

The biggest problem I can see with two-handed weapons is how do they implement that when there are off-hand powers in the game? How do you hold a staff and shield at the same time without it looking funky? If you ended up with certain combinations of powers, you could end up spending way too much time just switching weapons. Imagine having to pull a weapon for every attack or defense...

A shield is a problem with any weapon.

Using a staff two handed isn't a problem, though. You put it away when you use your off hand, just like you do with any drawn weapon. After all, Assault Rifle is used two handed, and so is Pistols.

As long as you aren't talking about using a two handed weapon AND a shield, then there's not a problem. And Shield would be a technical challenge to implement anyway, so the use of it will have to be a compromise. (Or require the implementation of new technology, like an off hand weapon)

A staff set would be absolutely wonderful.

I could easily see it being a scrapper PBAoE set, with a few cones of various sizes. I've wanted to be an AoE scrapper since day one, but I just can't bring myself to use those bizarre-looking spines.

's doesn't make things plural.

"If you have other ideas for a melee or defensive set ...."

Offensive: Nunchucks , Vampire attack (you pounce bite their neck and immobilize, drain health and drain endurance.) Steal Powers (you could temperarly take a foe's powers as your own, like claws, a gun or what ever)
Shape Shifting (animals or something)

Defensive: Possession (get inside someone and control them, they take your damage as long as they are possessed and you can use their powers too maybe), Wall Crawling , stop time would be cool but not sure if that would be possible, maybe in a localized area (or maybe only used in missions)and with a very long recharge time

Just some ideas... (maybe someday. . )

I agree, Staff would be awesome. But if we are to pick from the list Ex put up, I would pick Psionic Weaponry or Energy Blade (which I did). As for the defenses..eh, I really didn't like any of those options, especially Growth. Giving a matching set to the powers, like Psionic Armor, would be cool. Don't give us Energy Aura though...Stalkers and Brutes can keep that .

Rising to the Challenge: Spines/Willpower

If Density Control and Force Fields are like Kinetics and, uh, Force Field, but for the melee to use on themselves... well, considering how often having a Kin or FF to help out is wonderful, I'd go for these two on defenses.

Now, Psi melee attacks sound cool enough, and different enough from the smash/lethal that scrappers get, that I'd go for that as well... however, I also have to vote for street fighting, as I've been wanting a punchy-scrapper for some time (Dark Melee only has three punches). <_<

Okay, no Issue 10 for these, but I really hope that means that I10 has some new powersets. =O_O=

You guys are right there are lots of blades already in the game, but no dual blades. I would like to see dual energy blades Like Psylocke from the X-men. This would give those of us lusting over dual wepons and those wanting something that is not lethal dmg what we want!

Also second I would have voted for street fighting, if I had read the instructions

For Def I went for Willpower because it sounded different.

All of them please!

But since you are MAKING me choose...

Street Fighting - Players have been asking for this for a while... there are lots of us out there that want to go toes to toe with enemies without having to resort to the flashy kicks of Martial Arts or perceived over the top-ness of Super Strengh.

Pysonic Weapons - This could be really cool, rather than swinging a weapon you swing your hand in a chop like fashion with a blade of Psi doing the damage

Growth - Yes, I know it has an asterisk next to it, but it would be awesome... there could be two 'halves' to this set... one defence, one resistance... powers that make you smaller for defence and powers that make you bigger for resistance.

Force Field - Been a staple of villains for quite some time, having an impenetrable barrier

I can't wait for these when/if they get done

Most important to consider...

"Ball and Chain"

Have ragdoll physics and well society in general evolved sufficiently for it to be not only possible, but appropriate to throw around one's boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife into other people and objects?

Sure, when you're aggrevated with them you might wanna toss them into the nearest truck... but that doesn't mean it's necessarily right...

Just wanted to say that I think that Psionic weapons would be a good idea...

If I can still hit it, I'm not getting enough xp!
