Discussion: Poll for Power Set Feedback!
Personally for me, i'm all about the dual wepons aspect, also shields (fighting, and defense) would in my opinion bring an awsome new aspect into the game. I voted accordingly, as well i voted for Willpower, I'm all about mind over matter.
[ QUOTE ]
Finally, let me add my name to the chorus that would gladly pay $50 for a significant expansion that was this fall and had a lot of new stuff for everyone: powersets, costumes, loot, story, etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Doling out the proposed features in the expansion for free may keep an additional 50 dollars or so in our pockets, but it also means that they would take quite a lot more time to be realized since they would be spread out over several issues.
Personally, if the content is meaningful and there's enough of it such that everyone of varying level ranges will have something to do, I have no qualms in paying for it. Plenty of other game developers have used paid expansions as a means of significantly pushing a story forward and adding new features, so if Cryptic went this route it would hardly be anything new.
What about Epic AT's for Villains? Yeah give the Heroes cool stuff, but I don't play heroes, and after reaching 50 twice now in Villains, and seeing that I have "Unlocked Epic AT's"....yet there are none, I think that adding to Hero Content before giving the Villains that, is absurd.
Is anyone gonna reply to my post?

OK, I voted, but while I'm all for brand new powersets, what is the big objection to porting over sets that already sit in multiple ATs?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm going to assume this does NOT reduce or eliminate the possibility of that happening. Since creating new Power Sets will take much more time than simply porting over existing ones, the devs are asking about the former now so they'll have time.
I would like to request a similar poll thread for "Which existing Power Set would you like to see moved Hero to Villain Side, or vice versa". Just so people know it's still being considered, and maybe get some feedback about what players' priorities are.
(And I have a feeling I'm going to have to repost this comment every other page in this thread. Because it's coming up a lot)

O Street Fighting
O Electric Hammer
O Energy Blade
O Psionic Weaponry
O Dual Blades
[/ QUOTE ]
With the possible exception of Street Fighting, these all sound beyond cool. Street Fighting COULD be cool .. but I think it would wind up just being a rehashed Super Strength.
[ QUOTE ]
O Density Control
O Force Field
O Willpower
O Vibration
O Growth *
O Shield Defense *
[/ QUOTE ]
These all sound incredibly .. lame. But .. they COULD be cool if done with some originality. The unfortunate part is that we very seldom see originality when it comes to new power sets. Usually just rehashed animations with different colors.

We did plan out Power Sets for the retail box, but we've gone the route of free updates instead (woohoo!). Yep, we had some planned...and we thought about just putting those into updates as schedule permitted...
but then we thought it'd be cool if we polled the players what they wanted first. Not all of these power sets are of equal difficulty - some are tougher than others - but they are all possible. I can't promise exactly when it'll get in, but please know that we've heard loudly and clearly that players want new power sets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sometimes I'm really at a loss with the development staff. We could possibly like any of the "pre-planned" sets just as well as the few choices we have up. I mean I may be missunderstanding, but does that mean I10 is going to be some of these preplanned sets? or that it will contain no new power sets? I feel a little like I'm shooting in the dark.
[ QUOTE ]
BTW...Ball and Chain was my little addition last minute. It would be just be SO cool!
[/ QUOTE ]
lol. thats nice that you added your two cents into the poll of what players suggested, really, it is. I'd like to see some sort of elastic power instead of the "ball-n-chain" set. Something that maybe works the same as you may be imagining but with players contorting to make the weapon.

According to Lighthouse, none of these will make it into I10.

There was probably a thread on this I missed because of weak search-fu, but whatever happened to distributing the 'new powerset for every AT' that was once advertised for the since-cancelled new box edition, among Issues 9-12?
If I9 and I10 come out with no powersets, and the devs are only considering new sets for at most 4 ATs in I11 or I12, what happened to the rest?
Not to bash this efforts, scrappers and tankers need the love first, but is there a long term plan for the rest?

Player: Hey, criminal, wanna meet my ol'Ball and Chain? I'm sure she'd like ta give ya schmooch on da ol'noggin' of yers! *wham*
Frankly, what we're missing sorely is a staff. The staff can be ornate like a sorcery staff, or plain, as in a martial arts staff. As we have many magic and martial arts toons, this seems rather appropriate.
Also, how about Aikido? Some flipping would be cool to see...perhaps even throw an enemy into another or double hold multiple enemies using their momentum against them.

Man do I agree...however heres what I wonder.
1. Would something like this have been another sectioned expantion like CoV, that split much of the population up? So servers may have the some load, but only half as many people on each side.
2.Was the game coded in a way that makes it dificult to put in a pay expansion and make it only accessible to those who paid without the seperation of zones as in CoH and CoV?
3.Could a smaller pay update not be made if the "time table" was unreasonible? I mean we'd still expect more than the usual round of updates that have either been perceived nerfs or effect less then half the playerbase.
and not really a question, but it seems like maybe an I10 teaser and then this polling may have helped put things in perspective..maybe it's just me, but I think some of the player outcry here is because of time tables. We wanted a train in FF and that only took three years, so how often are we looking at power set expansion, and how long before the expansion of power sets begins?
I voted for the hard ones. Both Shield sets, Growth and Ball and Chain. These would be great and if we're ever going to see them, we need to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. If we go with other power sets now, the designers might not start working on these power sets for another 2 years, if ever.

Lighthouse has now said the poll results will not be published.
Makes the whole exercise a bit pointless, in my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wasn't the point for the devs to get a feel for what we'd want? Publishing it on the other hand, would be pointless without agreeing up front to implement the top selections. Well, unless the point would be to subject themselves to endless abuse for chosing something other than what won the poll. I'm glad to get my input in, even if it differs from the majority, even if they don't go with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I should have clarified. It makes the poll rather pointless to me. I can't speak for others. It will be useful to the devs.
ok this is my first post...ever...so YAY!!
now then on to buisness...*ahem*....
I picked the psionic weaponry and shield for melee attacks and the growth and density control for defense.
I picked the psionic melee cause I have always liked the effects and look of psionic attacks...just dont like ranged so ive never actually played a psionic toon so i would love to play a psionic melee class, and shield because...well...i think cracking down on baddies with a shield would be sweet especially if it gave you a bonus to defense while you were attacking with it.
Now i picked growth cause i think that would be an awsome and drastic new power set and although it says it would take longer i think it would be worth the wait, and density control sounds like it would be a neat addition...not sure exactly how it would work though whether it would be phasing you out of reality so attacks would pass through you or making yourself more dense so you wouldnt be hurt as much, but either way that sounds sweet.
Also i would love to see the street fighting, energy blade, and dual blade. I didnt pick these for my 2 though because even though they would be new i think they would be fairly recycled and end up feeling like a flashy katana set and a unflashy martial arts set...although if they added things like hadouken like moves or things to that effect (who doesnt like street fighter ) then i might be more inclined to try that set.
For the defense powers shield defense would be neat but i also think it seems a little impractical for this game since it would be impossible to be able to defend yourself from all sides with a shield like the shield powers that cover your body or eminate from your toon do. I cant even fathom how vibration would work unless thats a shortened way of saying sonic vibration like resonating sound through your body to add to your defense. Forcefield would be just like SR basically and plus its already known and i can basically see how the powerset would most likely work so that wouldnt really be new or exciting to me, and willpower sounds neat and i can see how that might work kinda like a fight through the pain set....
Well thats my view on the subject. Now on the subject of powersets not mentioned here. I would absolutly love to see some kind of water melee/defense powersets, the elemental powers such as fire, electricty, ice for melee and defense, and energy melee for scrappers. Also it would be incredibly awsome if there was a way to implement the katana/gun combo that Spark Blade uses he is one of my favorite heros and i would love to have a scrapper set with those two things as attacks...im not sure how that would work mabye make the gun attacks have to be extremely short range....but thats just a dream im sure
Aw, geez, now you made me dig out something I thought I'd forgotten.
Radiation Melee
Your character can utilize the power of various particles and rays to damage his foes. They have varying secondary effects, depending upon the radiation summoned.
1 - Photon Strike: Harnessing the power of light particles, you quickly strike your foe. Photons are hard to evade, and thus bypass some of a foes' Defense. Damage: Minor (Energy), Recharge: Fast
2 - Gamma Punch: You emit gamma radiation from your hands as you punch the enemy. This energy debilitates the foe as it wears off, reducing his ability to heal for a short time. Damage: Moderate (Energy), Recharge: Moderate
3 - Alpha Blast: A short range cone attack as waves of alpha particles emanate from your hands. These particles cause weakness, slightly reducing the damage output of the targets. Damage: Moderate, Recharge: Slow
4 - Concentrated Light: By exerting your powers to a wider area, you can cause the target and those near him to only be able to see you. [This is Taunt, just renamed to be in keeping with the set. ] Recharge: Moderate
5 - Infrared Punch: By focusing infrared photons, you set the target on fire, which keeps them taking damage for a short time. While burning (and for a short time thereafter), the target is unable to recover Endurance due to the pain. Damage: High (DoT), Recharge: Long
6 - Graviton Burst: You emit a burst of gravitons, causing enemies around you to become heavier. This slows their movement and attacks until the gravitons wear off. Recharge: Long
7 - X-Ray Laser Eye: You emit coherent beams of X-Rays from your eyes, causing damage to your target and reducing his damage resistance for a short time. Damage: High, Recharge: Slow
8 - Breeder: By concentrating for a few seconds, you absorb ambient radiation and use it to boost your ability to cause damage and slightly increase your accuracy. Recharge: Very Long
9 - Cosmic Strike: You focus cosmic rays through your very being and smite your foe with them in the form of an overhead smash. The target and nearby foes may be blinded by the secondary radiation as the cosmic rays lose their energy. Damage: Extreme, Recharge: Long
Radiation Aura
1 - Photon Shell: A visible-light aura that makes it hard to see precisely where the user is. While this does provide some Defense, it does not provide any Stealth as the user is glowing like a light bulb. Click power; Defense is higher against melee than against ranged. Recharge: Long
2 - Debilitating Aura: This toggle power allows the user to emit waves of weakening radiation, reducing the damage of any enemies in melee range. Recharge: Long
3 - Radiant Aura: The user can heal himself and nearby allies by an emission of radiation. Recharge: Long
4 - Kinetic Aura: This toggle power lets the user 'steal' energy from incoming attacks which have a kinetic component. This provides some damage reduction against smashing and lethal attacks. Stolen energy is used to deflect effects that would immobilize, hold, disorient, sleep or cause knockback/down. Recharge: Long
5 - Electron Absorption: This passive power provides damage reduction from energy and fire attacks.
6 - Proton Absorption: This passive power provides damage reduction from negative energy, cold, and toxic attacks.
7 - Photon Aura: This toggle power is a visible light aura similar to Photon Shell, but more intense and diffuse. This provides better Defense than Photon Shell, and is equally effective against melee and ranged attacks. Recharge: Long
8 - Replenishment: When you have been defeated, you can use your internal energies to restore you as good as new - better, in fact. For a short time after you revive, your damage, endurance recovery, health regeneration, and recharge rates are improved. When these effects wear off, however, you will lose endurance and the ability to recover it for a short time. [Sort of a 'self-Mutation', if you will.] Recharge: Very Long
9 - Entropy: You absorb all the energy in a moderate area, causing damage to your enemies and suppressing their ability to heal and recover endurance. This extra energy boosts your Defense as you glow like the sun, and increases your damage resistance to all types of damage except psionics as well. In addition, the sudden infusion of energy moderately increases your endurance recovery and damage. However, this power does not come without a price: when the stolen energy finally dissipates, it takes most of your health and endurance with it. Damage: Moderate PBAoE, Recharge: Very Long

o.o I don't know.. I'd buy a new retail box as long as I got some more server slots with it.. I'm kinda full on 3 servers.. not to mention a box expansion means more money is put into its development...

radiation melee and aura, sounds like good melee power sets.

As you have probably heard us say before, we are constantly trying to bring you cool stuff in the 'City Of' games!
To this end we are considering the possibility of two new powersets for the 'City Of' games.

edited becuz i saw states reply to my very concern...
so now i say this to states.... Give us the power sets anyway and then give us these extra nes we're polling for :P
I don't post in the forums very often, but staves... good lord, I'd love to see them!
Also, a little bit different, but what about an animal-combat set, with bite, claw, bash, etc? And the costume bits to make more animal types?

I'd like to mention that these powersets are NOT for Issue 10, as we are nearly locked down on that issue already.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's rather disappointing. Tankers and Scrappers are absolutely starving for new powersets. How about the in the meantime you guys port some powersets from other ATs over to them? Elec Armor would be a nice Tanker set, as would Dark Armor.
Elec Melee for Scrappers. Fire Melee, maybe Ice Melee too. And hell, Energy Melee for Scrappers too. Someone mentioned Energy Aura for defensive. Fire Armor would be cool too.
Brand new sets are great and all, but you guys got all these sets that could be easily ported over with minimal work. Seems like a waste.
[/ QUOTE ]
I heard that.
I am still eagerly awaiting a Commander set for heroes! (ahem thats master minds for villains :P)
Bo Staff would be great and long over due. You could have it for both offense and defense.
man that radiation melee/defense set sounds awsome that would be great if they would do that.
On another note ever since they came out with masterminds i have wished they would make a mastermind or as _nyhm_ said "commander set" for heroes even if it was a direct port and all we got was the same minions as villians but like we could have a PPD mastermind where you get officers and then mabye the PPD shells and your final summon would be the PPD unleashed or a psy-cop i think that would be great!
Shield Fighting?
Can you say...
RYGAR!!!!!!
Uber Talgrim - level 50 emp/dark defender
Uber Rod - level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper
Rod Valdr - level 50 invuln/SS tanker
Talgrim - level 50 ninja/dark mastermind
OMG!! Please add these costume designs now!
I like the new power sets however I think there are some basics missed. Lets make sure this is also for Brutes and Stalkers!
With that said, how bout adding a morphing melee. One that changes your toons appendages into weapons i.e. hands turn into swords/Axes/ball and chain etc.
Or
how bout a Speed Melee (Best I could Describe it) a PBEoA that makes you attack all enemies in a certain area in a flurry?
This last idea is more technical and maybe more of an archtype but how bout a power theft power pool or something along those lines?
For def I love the ideas for Growth ( I assume actually growing in size) and Willpower (I think both could be turned into an offensive power as well).
Lets try a metallic defense one that allows the toon to cover themselves in a metal form (may fall under density though)
The def power I would love to see is a time stopper or slow time def that allows the toon to slow enemies in their tracks powers, movement everything!
This idea is forsure to be very difficult but i would be impressed to see is an environment defense. The toon is able to force objects around him to block attacks (animations similar to gravity control) almost like a psychic defense.
