HOWEVER, I do agree that while both COV and GR introduced incredible content and systems, which certainly injected new life into the game, they did have the unintended side-effect of also dividing the player base.
It was definitely a concern that we as a studio had. This was why with Freedom you saw the Unified Tutorial, so that you could at least choose your path versus having it thrust on you. There were other plans in the works, some more solid than other.
We were in a bit of a sticky pickle. If we homogenized content too much, there would be no uniqueness to being a Hero or Villain. But it was also nearly impossible to create enough unique content for six different factions. Players don't want generic content that works for both Heroes and Villains, they want great content that makes them feel truly heroic or villainous.
I think that's one of the reasons that for a lot of the content over the past few years, you started to see much more intense storylines, with greater weight placed on consequences.
So to wind this back up to the beginning, I'm not sure I'd say that COH went wrong with having multiple factions. They did have a tremendously positive impact on the game. But I think in hindsight, there were a lot of consequences down the line that no one could have seen coming.
I don't know if it's been said, but I really feel like For CoV at least it would have been much more impact full had two or three unique zones been created and the rest of the content existed on most of the same zones heroes used. Some locked to either faction of course. Some where we could coop as RWZ does, and others where we accept that we're operating outside of each others notice. I know it may have been murderous and I love so many things about each of the games but had I been a villain sneaking around Kings Row doing missions it would have promoted a level of cohesion that wasn't represented at launch. Also I wouldn't have had to put up with the jigsaw puzzle maps with memory sinks and graphic black holes CoV created. -
I would be looking for my new badge "The End Was Nigh" for all characters logged into the game during the end times. That would be a pretty sweet badge.
-
I'm listening to that now and I agree. I would probably cry and show my kids the video when talking about my first game as well. This is breaking my heart.

Quote:Regarding point number 2:
Let's say your billing date is October 5.
1. Sever Transfers are awarded on the first of the month. (i.e. October 1)
2. Paragon Points are awarded on your billing date (i.e. October 5) - however, Freedom launch was frontloaded with extra PP, so if your account was active during launch, you got extra PP. Therefore, if your billing date is before October 11 (according to a GM), you won't get your PP until October 11 - you'll get it on your next billing date (i.e. October 11)
3. Paragon Reward Tokens are awarded at the end of your billing month (i.e. November 4)
Yes, this means that anyone whose billing date is October 1 through October 10, you won't get your PP until October 11.
Yes, that means the rewards are all on a different award date. Yes, that is kind of dumb.
Thank you. That answers pretty much all of my questions at the moment about VIP rewards. It's too bad there isn't an announcement outlining this information. Thanks again, now if only I could develop some simple memory technique to remember each award schedule. -
So that's for the points. Are tokens under a different rule for distribution? If so is it end of the billing cycle? If not then should those people with a billing date of the 1st already have received the Oct. token? Ah well, one question answered at least thanks for the update.
-
Quote:July, August and September are three months... Three times 400 would be 1,200. Yet, we received 1,600 points. We don't know why!
Was this intentional? Did we receive points for June to July, July to August, August to September and September to October?
Maybe we already got our October points...
It is a legitimate thought/point/question, since we really don't know what is going on.
I hope we didn't get 'em already... The more I get, the better!
This is exactly the reason players are freaking out. We don't know because there has yet to be informed clarification. In time I would hope we will see a specific statement putting all this to rest. I.E. "we awarded x number of points for dates to dates. This means you as a customer will receive point by this formula." Do the tokens award the same as points? Why have we collectively gotten server transfers already? All this and more could be yours with just a little illumination, next time on the Paragon Market! -
Quote:They were also operating on a different schedule for September, due to the fact that some peoples' bill dates preceded the launch of Issue 21. They couldn't shortchange them on points or other rewards, so they just gave EVERYONE their rewards all on the same day.
Or maybe, going forward, they intend to give everybody who is currently subscribed their points during the first maintenance of the month. That makes a certain amount of sense as well. *shrug*
To my knowledge, your Paragon Reward Tokens and Server Transfer Tokens should, going forward, hit your account on your bill date.
I'd like to see some official statement addressing this rather than sitting and hoping it will resolve in a timely manner. I have a renewal date on the 1st of each month and have my transfer awarded but thats it at this point. We'll see our regular maintenance tomorrow. That being said it would be easier to judge if things are operating as intended if we new officially the way the developers expected things to operate because until we do it's all just guessing and hoping which does not make for a very trusting costumer base. -
Are these events leading up to a larger more inclusive event? I know nothing like this has been hinted at, however, playing in the low level even it seemed to come and go quickly. I never felt pressed to accomplish anything and the invasion seemed to mind it's manners and stay out of the way to a degree. I had really hoped to see a longer more widespread event. It was enjoyable for the short time it was around.

I didn't see that they fixed the character select screen yet. I can't seem to get mine to retain the order I arrange them in, even with my "remember account name" box checked.
[/ QUOTE ]are they just appearing in some random order, or the pre-i12 order? if the former, try going and deleting any playslot.txt files in the city of folder.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm gonna go with randomish. They most asuridly are not in my pre issue 12 order. I can rearange and save the order if I want to play on one server.... however, if I start switching between servers I find that everything starts getting jumbled up. I have on occasion (at least once since this patch went out) had a crash switching servers. is it related? I'm no programmer so I wouldn't know. The evens usually "seem" go transpire in this order....
log in,
select server,
order charecters,
select charecter,
play for some amount of time,
log out to log in screen,
emidiately log in and select diffrent server.
this has cause me to
a) have jumbled up charecters on the new server or
b) hang up and crash wich prompts a crash ticket.
I know you I'm not who you were talking to but I thought i'd through my situation in on the subject. -
Updated a few images. I'm working on a painting now that will have three charecters in it. Nightwing, Mary Marvel, and Metamorpho. The drawing are just roughs for the actual painting but I said as much in each entry lol. Check thiem out and let me know what you think.

Overdirection kills all those little sponteneous things that happen when an artist is creating. I find my pieces 'die' when I try too hard for a certain look. If I just 'let them happen', I continue to enjoy them for months (or even years) to come.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is so true, I think people might have even heard it discribed as the painting or artwork "speaking" to thiem. Sure as an artist I have things I want to say in a work, but the work wants to say somethings right back. -
So instead of posting a new thread everytime I drop something on my deviant page I figured I'd just bump this thread. So with that being said, here's two new additions to my city of art, and this time they're in color. let me know what you think.

http://woodnone.deviantart.com/art/C...trike-70697980
on a side note... if anyone want to send me an email or pm explaining how to rename a link I put in the body of a post, please feel free. I'd love to know. Thanks again. -
Here's what I like to hear. What "feeling" do you want it to have, and what specifics do you need to see.
1) I want a high impact feeling to the piece and I'd like to be able to see most of my charecters face and emblem.
2)I want an epic feel with more of an action shot rather than a charcter observation.
See the diffrance is how an artist will go about not just the background but body pose as well as a ton of other things. Always ask for what you want, but remeber ask for what you want upfront and honestly and the more restrictions you place on an artist the rougher it maybe to meet your vision. Everyone has their own process so really consider chatting the artist up some, see what they need by asking questions and going with the flow. -
Thanks for the complaments. I added a few more murals up. They're older but I needed to add thiem. Hope you enjoy.
-
Thanks guys, I can be pretty lazy with my updates but check on me every now and again for new stuff

So, I posted a few more pics up on my gallery. A few pencile scratches of just a couple of my charecters. I'm going to try to do something more complete as the year comes to a close and the next one starts. So pop over, take a look, and let me know what you think.

Happy turkey day to everyone who's in it to win it. -
In warburg, as a stalker (at least ninj) if you die in a mission and then respawn to the hospital hide does not recharge. Only after zoneing or reenetering the map will it be fully recharged and able to toggle on. Don't know if it was stated yet but 3/4 of the way through the thread I decided to bump to the last two pages.
-
On a note to the lag, if it's simple lag people may want to make sure supress other player effects is on. Mine reset and I didn't realize it for a couple of days.
-
Thanks guys. I've got tons of stuff but I always seem to be doing something else. Hopefully I'll have more stuff up quickly.
-
Hey, I just started a deviant account and, well, hoped I could get some people to pop on over and look at some of the work up. It's not much right now like 4 or 5 images but it's something and with time new stuff should be up semi-regularly.
Thanks.

Let see... I like Issue 9 all right but I'm not over whelmed or anything.
-I would vote on the market for the best new feature, but the lag it creates on the bussy servers makes it tough to really apreciate. +Instead I vote of IOs
-I would have voted for costume peices as my new shiney, but unless I get lucky or want to spend a ton of money, I don't get that new shiny. So imo thats not really a game addition for the masses. Even if they would have been vetran rewards people would have known eventually they would have the new costume peices. +instead I vote on enhancement sets, at least the're dropped enough that I may actually be able to buy what I'm missing without needing a main to drain money off of.
-I like that there is an economic system now to provide an alternative to the npc shops.
-Like most tutorials the Invention system seems fine.
-Over all I vote Issue 9 as "ehh, it doesn't suck."
now we have something to do when we stand around, lets get some new stuff to do when we're not. New powers and new epics ftw. -

Marvel is putting money into Cryptic, only for Cryptic to give money back to a major competitor's ally company? (Top Cow/Image are now attached to DC in some way, not sure how financially tied they are, but all the Widlstorm stuff has somewhat crossed over with the DC universe recently with Infinite Crisis and all).
[/ QUOTE ]
Image is/was a house of creators with seperate creative companies all published under the same umbrella company. When Wildstorm jumped ship to DC, it was Jim Lee and his flagship comapny that made that jump, and in doing so left Image comics. Thats why wildstorm title can be seen in some DC crossover events, because it is a DC owned property now.
Thats not the same as a one-shot special made between two companies that they both would see a proffit from. Like the DC/Marvel epic event sometimes companies decide to share a little to get more face time with the fans, and to create hype. Just because they've worked together in the past doesn't imply ownership.
Marvel wrote up an offer for whatever man hours and development obligations they would want from Cryptic and Cryptic jumpped on board. None of those obligations was the sale or impending sell of City of. If it were there would already be news of the merger. It may happen that someday Marvel does put out a City of comic, because when you run a comicbook based game and are working closely with a publishing giant like DC or Marvel you may actually make a good contact in the proccess. Maybe it will never happen, but it could.
The death of the City of comic is because sales could not sapport Cryptic giving it to all of it's player base for free. So the introduced the online download. The sales have never really been sapported by non-players and so the capital was still not there to keep the comic alive, this isn't a judgement on the comic it's just a fact. Money has to come in for money to go out and when you don't meet your profit goals you reavaluate how you're doing things and if you can continue. In this case it was a no.
We can guess why all we want but the fact remains that the City of comic was never popular enough to be pushed out by some lame strong arm tactic. If anything Marvel would look at as a great way to generate intrest in what they're doing with their partner Cryptic. I personaly think the comic didn't make it because it was static boring read that failed to bring in out-side readership in numbers big enought to saport it's self.
