Discussion: Paragon Rewards program details
Hmm, looks like the Ascension Armor was a bit of a prelude for some of the things to come. Not that I think it's a bad thing. Really good looking costume pieces shown there.
Kudos to the art team.
"The part of me that is leaving... is going to miss the part of me that is staying..."
I thought I'd gotten a decent grasp on how this was going to work from the dev chat
thread, but this part tossed me back into confusion:
You can then use Reward Tokens to unlock Paragon Rewards. All the same badges from the Veteran Rewards program can still be unlocked in the Paragon Rewards program. You can choose to reslot them as rewards. Or you can choose different rewards. |
a veteran player, with quite a number of months behind you. Can you place them wherever,
at any time, and all the Tiers are automatically open to claim rewards from from the start?
Or do you have to fill out lower tiers to open the higher ones? Or do you "unlock" tiers
just by virtue of having a certain number of months behind you, like the current reward
system?
This also seems to imply that if you are a VIP player, the VIP Tier 9 may be open
automatically from the start to them. Is this the case, or again, do you have to fill out the
lower tiers to open the VIP tier?
The summary from the dev chat implied if you were a Veteran, you would have these tiers
auto-filled for you or tiers had to be otherwise unlocked in some ascending-order
way(Things such as "may start at Tier 7"), so I'd appreciate greater clarification on how
exactly this all functions.
Two questions:
1) Does unlocking an enhancement booster/unsloter give us one booster/unsloter per character, or just one for the whole account. Same for the limited use powers, do we get 5 uses per character or per account.
2) Is there anything you have to do to gain access to the higher tiers? i.e. If all I'm interested in are costume parts could I start at the top unlocking the new (very cool looking) armor and glowy wings or do I have to work up from the bottom?

HHHHHHOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLYYYYYYY CRAP THAT'S COOL!
I was a bit ambivalent about the points system. Ya, now I'm not, looks pretty cool.
my OMG AWESOME!!!1!!!!1 list
-Celestial armor
-Energy wings (Seriously love it, my new MM is getting them in about 2 seconds after they come out)
-I get a metric naughtyword-ton of reward tokens when this goes live.
-The signature character summon power (I mean imagine a team of 8 Ghost Widows, assuming you get to choose who shows up)
-And whatever that crumbly crack earthquake trail thing is looks amazing.
In all love it love it love it.
OK I'm done acting all excited-teenage-girlish now.

And about 5 others that change constantly...
What I want to know is if those enhancement boosters only work on standard invention or if they work on sets such as Hecatomb and Doctored Wounds. I don't expect them to boost set bonuses but I guess I'm just wondering if they work on the actual enhancement strength of a set and how does that affect me when I exemplar?
I assume that You'd have to be the level of the boosted enhancements for the setbonuses to still work at the -3 level rule. If they don't work on enhancement sets at all or if they break them for exemplaring it kinda sucks.

If I had to guess, Id say they have boss level damage and controls (not ghostwidows mag 100 hold if you were hoping for that Lol.)

Clear as mud how you get to tier 9. Pay?

Okay I have a question that's been on my mind about this system for a while now, and now that they have shown the diagram of what the system will be, I still have a question that I would like clearing up.
I've been playing the game since '05 but my first account belongs to my friend now (with more years in vet rewards). Since then, I have started up another account that has about 4 years of vet rewards on it. I also plan to keep paying so I can have VIP status. So my question is, with my 4 years of service and paying for VIP status, will I have access to pretty much everything including the Tier 9 VIP content?
I know it's a weird question but I just feel a little confused by it. Perhaps I haven't read as carefully as I usually do, but I'd be extremely appreciative if someone could clarify for me!
Thanks a ton!

I am confused and illiterate. Can I choose to rebuy some rewards over and over again, like if I wanted to spend fifteen bucks, get my reward point, and get even more charges of some consumable item like the Enhancement Enhancer Thing?

FEEDBACK
Overall
I really like this solution to the current Vet Reward system which has become untenable in that a brand new player would despair of every getting to a really good reward locked away behind a 7 year subscription to the game. Will CoH even be here 7 years from now? Supplanted by CoH2?
The new system speeds up the rewards to a three year plateau and gives long time Vets still more rewards without making the gap between them and the newbies insuperable.
Problem with Lack of FREEDOM
I know Posi said people won't like the aspect of having to fill a Tier before progressing to a new one with the implication being "we're doing it this way even if you complain." And Zwillinger has said, "it's not a tree!"
Well, I'm going to complain about this tree. It is a tree. Period. No amount of redefinition will change that. And because it is a tree, it locks rewards behind other rewards. Just because someone climbing up the tree gets to chose the order of seven Rewards in a Tier, doesn't really make it any less a tree or lack of *overall* choice.
And so, there really isn't the FREEDOM here which this reinvention of CoH is supposed to be all about. It's still the same Vet Reward program with internally scrambled segments.
One of the eternal complaints of the Old Vet System is something you've heard from players over and over: Some of the rewards are less than stellar. I'm looking at you, Boxing Set and Greek Letters. Compare that to Assemble the Team or Portable Auctionhouse. Or compare that to Angelic/Demonic Wings and Kilts, which you see people actually use in the game. I can't remember the last time I saw a Greek letter being used.
And the Paragon Reward system is still making new players take those unwanted rewards before the ones they want. Why? Why make players take rewards they don't want? (Yes, *some* do, but they should have the choice.)
Suggested Solutions to Lack of FREEDOM
Allow advancement to the next tier without fully picking all of the previous tier. Progression may go like this:
- Allow Tier 2 with one previous reward
- Allow Tier 3 with two previous rewards
- Allow Tier 4 with 4 previous rewards (instead of 5)
- Allow Tier 5 with 6 previous rewards (instead of 8)
- Allow Tier 6 with 10 previous rewards (instead of 13)
- Allow Tier 7 with 16 previous rewards (instead of 20)
- Allow Tier 8 with 22 previous rewards (instead of 27)
- Allow Tier 9 with 28 previous rewards (instead of 34)

I certainly hope these are not going to be expensive. Just my 2 inf here, but this has been a fundamental flaw in the respec system since time began. To start charging for this feature now seems a tad on the greedy side IMO. I hope it is not a sign of things to come when the game goes F2P.

Soo... I wonder what the 1+ powerset is that the VIPs get access to?
Or did I miss this somewhere, like Time Manip is locked to VIPs or something?
[edit: It's a POWER not a SET. So some random temp.]

My feedback is that while the new system appears to be an improvement over the old, there is a major problem.
For me, the costume creator is fundamental to the game and having as many options available as possible is very important to my enjoyment. Creating new costume sets and gating them behind long-term play or a large dollar expenditure is maddening.
I hope that there will be some way to purchase these costume sets from the market, rather than having to wait for months or expend a huge amount of money on paragon points to inflate one's veteran level. Even a change in policy that would allow reward tokens to be delivered up front after a long-term subscription purchase would solve the problem.
Thanks for considering this.
I love everything we know so far about I21 and Freedom...
Except the lack of Freedom if we have to take every reward in the tier to access a higher one.
Where is the Freedom in that?
I though we could choose the rewards we want in this new system.

The unfortunate limitation is that while you do have the freedom to take all the rewards in a tier in random order, you still have to take them all. I have a suggestion into the devs that may provide a future remedy, but at the moment I do not believe this is currently likely to change prior to launch. I really, really wish it would, though.
