  1. Played it earlier today before heading off to work...
Good job on the choices offered between Hero and Vigilante.
The ending... was kinda mushy (for lack of a better word coming to mind) but not in a bad way... It made me smile, which is a rare thing these days as I play and I watch our beloved game come closer and closer to its final day...

Damnit... I got something in my eye again...
  2. Cimerora. In one of the smaller buildings up past where Imperious stands.
Or Croatoa. Out in one of those farm houses. Would have to make sure I'm on good terms with the Fir Bolg and the Witches out there though.
  3. -Zone PvP
Not so much the zones themselves, because some of them were actually pretty cool looking. Warburg always impressed me with its architecture. Bloody Bay had a nice mix of different landscapes (from city to forest, all in one place.) And Siren's Call wasn't bad either...
No... the PvP system was a hassle, and the foul-mouthed 12 year olds and d-bags that got their jollies off by filling broadcast, PMs and even my email with trash talk and abusive language that slaughtered the English language.
(And, for the record, the same kind of foul-mouthed 12 year olds and d-bags also showed up in PvE too... they were just /far/ easier to ignore there.)

-Being debuffed into the ground by enemys. (I'm looking at you Talons of Vengence and Banished Pantheon!)
Though, to be fair, there were Inspirations to help with that...

-Players who quit at the end of a TF just because they ran into a bit of a challenge.
Yeah... Sorry that you can't just face-roll Lord Recluse at the end of an STF/MLTF. Have to actually use a bit of tactics and team work on that one, kiddies...

-People who constantly complained and tried to take the that second 'M' out of the term 'MMORPG'.
Just because you don't like playing with other people doesn't mean that everything should be solo-able. The only exception I can honestly make about this is for those whose computers simply couldn't keep up with things. But if you are just being anti-social... Well too bad.

    That's... really about it.
I'm sure if I really sat back and thought about every nitpicking little detail that annoyed me, the list would be longer...
The game (and the people I shared it with) were not without it's flaws. Nothing is ever perfect... But damnit all... This game in my opinion came closer then any others I have played.
  4. $1000 for a lifetime sub?

Err, well... if I was in a position to just throw that kind of money around, I guess.
But really, if I were in a position where $1000 was chump change that I could drop into a pastime like City of Heroes, then I /might/ also be in a position to go straight to NCsoft and say,
"I want to buy Paragon Studios and CoH. What's your price?" and all our beloved Devs would have their jobs back.

Sadly, I can't do that. And I don't know anyone personally that could.

To put it in a different perspective...
$1000 could pay up my car payment for the next three months with money left over.
Or get two months ahead on my house payment.
Or pay up my car insurance for the nearly 2 years.

I have been blessed to be put in a position in life where I can afford to be a VIP.
But I just don't think that the average person is going to have that much laying around, and if they do... well, God bless them.

Even $500 is asking a bit much, I think. When CO came out, they were offering Lifetime Subs for... what? Around $200? (Its a guess, I honestly don't remember anymore...)

I'm not saying I wouldn't if I could /and/ I had a guarantee that the game would be around for a good long while...
  5. Hmm... Think we can get the beam laser that transported Flynn and his son into the digital world in the Tron movies?
  6. Well, lets see...

Elltenia, my main, is a TW/WP Scrapper. I have done some outrageous things with her...

Aggroing four monsters up in the northern area of Peregrin Island and not dying, for example. Though admittedly, I didn't have the DPS to kill them.

My absolute best moment though? Tanking Recluse on said Scrapper at the end of a STF... Yeah, that was crazy... and it didn't help when, in the middle of that, the Arachnos Flier spawned again, and we started getting swarmed with enemies as they were dropped in...
    Fun times!

There were plenty more... but it was absurd things like that which really stick out in my mind.

    My base...

    Hey everyone...
I'm don't post in forums all that much, and I certainly have never started a thread before... but given the recent news...
Well, I have been lurker here for a while. Some of the bases I have seen here have just blown me away. The creativity of you base builders is simply amazing.
I don't consider myself on the same level as some of you, but I have been working on my base for well about a year now. I've actually /had/ it for a lot longer then that, when I ended up inheriting it after all the other original members of the SG left. Prestige was always slow to gain, when it was only me and one friend were doing all the work for it. More recently, the SG grew, and we had a few more active people...

Bah, I'm rambling now... I'm proud of the base and what myself and only a couple of others have managed to build.
If any of you are on Virtue and would like to see it, drop me a line and I'll give you a tour.
Respond to me here... I'll try and keep an eye on this thread as much as I can.
  9. Aww hell...
    I'm crying again...
  10. Whats stupid about invasions?
    I happen to like them.
  11. I did this mission on my TW/WP scrapper through Ouro. I ran the whole arc at +0x8 (admittedly, my character is fairly well tricked out with IO's and set bonuses.) That last mission was a doozy, but personally, I liked it. I'm guessing its set to spawn an EB for every person in the party, but I had 8 or 9 of them! o_o; (And yes, for the record, I ended up faceplanting a time or two on that one...)
Again, though, I liked it. The waves of enemies coming at me truly made me feel like this was a 'Do or die' moment in the story. The odds were stacked against my character. The Talons of Vengeance knew that this battle would be pivotal against the Midnighters. As such, they threw everything they had at them.
Despite all that though, I still came out on top.

Really, the only part I have an issue with is the moment when Ward seems to flip sides for no real discernible reason. But, I understand the need for that from a story point of view...
If Ward hadn't been suddenly obsessed with vengeance, then Clarity's 'Nobel Sacrifice' would have been pointless...

As much as I'd love to see that (and a lot of other things with involving supergroup bases), the Devs have basically admitted that working with the base code is like playing Jenga on fire (or something along those lines...)
I get the impression that changing a statue in one of the zones would be easier by comparison... and that's not saying a lot...

Said much more succulency then I would have. Thank you Kirsten.
  14. @Kirsten,
As has been shown here, the few you have aimed this at will do nothing but complain about things.
Why? Because they believe that /their/ opinion is so vastly superior to everyone else.
And they will argue endlessly to prove a point...

Because you know, its extremely easy to complain and criticize other peoples work from other side of a computer screen...

But hey, that's the internet, right? Where it's everyone's god-given right to complain and *PANCAKE* about everything that they don't agree with 100%.

But you know, I have one reassuring thing that makes me smile...

Clearly the Devs know when to listen, and when to simply ignore the angry vitriol from some people.

*smiles big and happily noms popcorn as she plays the game she likes, writing and all*

A friend and myself have tried to get a straight answer out of the Devs on this one. Supposedly, the Rikti Lineage of War fought an alien force called The Battalion about 100 years ago.
The questions that rise up from this are numerous though...

Is this the same Battalion that we face? Or the equivalent from the Rikti dimension that only shares the name?
If this is the same enemy (making the Battalion a multi-dimensional threat) then how did the Rikti survive against a force that is supposedly so powerful?
Is Rikti technology (which is still light-years ahead of what Primal Earth, and even Praetoria has) powerful enough to stave off the Battalion?
Or, as it has been suggested, was there something about the Rikti that made them unappealing to bother with after the initial contact/battle?

We can only make guesses at these, really.
I'm of the opinion that the Rikti were indeed powerful enough to stave off the attack, or at least make Battalion feel it wasn't worth the effort or losses to get into a prolonged war with them.
The counter argument to that is 'If the Rikti were powerful enough to fight off the Battalion, how on earth did Primal Earth manage to survive their attack during the First Rikti War?'
Well, basically, we got lucky. If you read the lore on the CoH website, (which may or may not be outdated) costumed heroes were dying by the hundreds daily. It was the sacrifice of Hero 1 and the Omega team that ended up saving us.

Lastly, on the thoughts of the Rikti and their 'Well'... I'm not so sure they really 'killed it off'. The Well of Furies strikes me as something that would exist whether it's people acknowledge its presence or not.
Plus, there is one small hint that (in my opinion at least) shows the Rikti do indeed, have the equivalent of Incarnates...
U'Kon Gr'ai. Simply put, he's a giant among his fellow Rikti (physically... not just referring to his status in the game as a GM. Come on, I think he towers above even Hro'Dtohz, who is dang huge!) An more importantly, there is the incarnate salvage that is named after him (Gr'ai Matter). It stands to reason that all the other Alpha Slot incarnate salvage has a connection to incarnates in some way, that this one wouldn't be an exception...

So, that's my theory on it...
    *ends thread hijack*
  16. Well, to answer your informal survey..
[*]How many characters have you fully incarnated?
    Two actually. A WP/Mace Tank and a TW/WP Scrapper.
[*]How many characters have you incarnated?
Seven. A blaster, a brute, a controller, another tanker and three another scrappers.
[*]How many characters have you rolled with the intention of making them Full Incarnates?
None. The incarnate system is the end game, but I never make a character specifically for it. If it happens, it happens...
[*]Do you have any characters that you, for whatever reason, are not going to make Incarnates?
No. Like the question above about the intention of making them incarnates when you rolled them up. If they get that far and accomplish it, then great.

In my opinion, not every character in the world that is a hero, villain, or all points in between, should be Superman-level demi-gods that can battle cosmic-powered threats. Not saying they should be barred from helping fight back the tide of enemies that are likely to come, but don't expect to be able to solo them either...
  17. In the grand-scheme of things, I'm relatively new to the whole base-building thing. It took a while for me to really get into it, learning how to make things stack, and how to float items and whatnot. (Oh the joy of being able to move items up and down.. and rotate them?? I dang near fainted when I saw that!)
Once I figured it out though, I had a lot of fun with it. I had a base that I inherited around i13 - i14 (it still has a storage rack that has 99 Base Salvage in it...)
I have dedicated a -lot- of time and energy to gaining Prestige, crafting items, upgrading plots, placing items... and I'm still working on it... (It's really only myself and two other people working on that Prestige...)
That all being said... Despite all the time and effort I have put into it, if the Devs said they were rebuilding the base system from the ground up, improving everything like it has been said they want to... I'd hand them the proverbial keys and hold a BBQ as it happened.
If we had a chance to actually keep our Legacy Bases as well, I certainly wouldn't complain, but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me.
The only caveat Id throw in is giving me a refund on all our Prestige. Or, if a new base system didn't use Prestige, then something else as an equivalent.

Basically, all I'm saying is that bases can be rebuilt, and I'd gladly do just that if it came to it.

I do not consider the Magisterium trial to be well-scripted and compelling, but the things you were discussing would make it even more unenjoyable for me.

And what sort of game mechanics would you use that are not (in your opinion) overutilized, uninspired and uncreative?
When you consider how long video games have been around, it becomes clear that it becomes harder and harder to come up with something that hasn't been done before, and yet still works.
Admittedly, a raid is a raid, and there are only so many different ways you can color it differently... Having a 'boss fight', which triggers another 'boss fight' which triggers the final 'big boss fight' might be considered 'uncreative and uninspired', but it works... And that's why it gets used, and not just in this game either...

Perhaps you could share with us what you think would make the trial more compelling then? How would you have made the final battle against what is arguably the toughest single enemy in the game (up to this point, yes, it can be argued that the Hamidon is tougher, but you know what I mean...) and his remaining lackies as they fight a desperate 'win or die' battle?
And while you are at it, take into consideration the current limits of the game itself, and how long it would take to possibly implement what you would like to see. (Because whether we all like it or not, game developers are always going to have to limit what they want to do by what the game itself and any deadlines that might be imposed upon them...)

....and then fuse with the power of some uber something-or-other where he changes form and gets granted a ton of new powers and 6 billion more hps. I mean, that might not common comic-booky thing, but certainly a gaming thing!

    Mr. True Shot.

And then we get to hear how much the iTrial sucks, how the writing is garbage, and how terrible the game is becoming from a overly loud, vocal few. (Probably the same few who complain that they can't solo the entire game...)

    Hyperbole aside though...
...while having that one trial currently be the only way to gain AiXP does kinda suck, the devs have given us the small team/solo path for the other Incarnate powers already. I am sure (or at least fervently hope for their sakes...) that they will do the same again...

And really, if you think about the Mag trial from a purely video game point of view...
You fight through an army of enemies, then fight three powerful bosses, which sets things up for a fight with a fourth powerful boss... Then the final boss comes in, drops a city-busting nuke on you (reducing everyone's HP to 1) before infusing himself with the power from the Well, growing to giant proportions and fighting you to the end...

Dang near sounds like something out of a Final Fantasy game...

It needs to be social policy that in such cases any results will be destroyed without being used or study so there's no pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. It doesn't matter how many lives might be saved because human lives are not currency.
History already proves this wrong. The Nazi's are not remembered for the medical advances they made, they are much better remembered for their atrocities, war crimes and the simple fact they dang-near conquered all of Europe.
Also, such a social policy that you are suggesting...
Think about what you are saying for a moment?
If this 'insane butcher' had managed to find such a cure, you would be condemning millions of cancer victims to death...
Not that I'm saying the guy who killed people for that cure should get a free pass, but how is destroying their research morally any better then curing the disease?

If, on the other hand, you have decided to murder 50,000 people in the hopes of finding the cure for a disease that might kill 5,000,000, you're a war criminal and your research, if any, should be destroyed after your trial with no dissemination. (Yes, I know this wasn't done with research from Japanese and Nazi concentration camps. It should have been.)
The real world is full of scenarios that you would probably consider 'contrived', but none the less viable for making this sort of argument. But for the sake of this, lets go with the fictional scenario that occurred in First Ward when the Devouring Earth ended up destroying the majority of the place, and many people in it.

Keyes moral compass not withstanding, (and Emperor Cole in this particular instance, since he is the one that ended up making the actual choice, I believe,) he was put in the un-enviable position of making a choice between letting the DE ravage and kill everyone in First Ward (and possibly more, it's never exactly clear on that) or stopping the DE then and there, with the full understanding that some would have to be sacrificed to save others.
Exact numbers (or even vague numbers, as far as I know) aren't ever given to us but it's not beyond reasonable to say that thousands died, so that thousands more may live.

As for the second part of your comment... I find it ironic (and naively foolish) to say that all research should be destroyed in such a scenario. Because, regardless of the questionable ethics involved, many advances in the field of medicine were built off of the research that Nazi's did. How many lives do you suppose were saved because of that?
