If you don't like the writing...

Then please, I suggest that you do one or more of the following:

(TL;DR: There is a time and place for complaints, and wherever you complain, please do so politely!)

*Calmly, and without vitriol, point out what your problem is: If you make a clear, concise case to the right person, it can make all the difference.

*Ignore it. It's just a game. MST3K Mantra, guys.

*Create your own award-winning MMO and write it better. (I say this entirely without sarcasm, and honestly mean it.)

Please, for the sake of other people who don't like wading through pages upon pages of angry, sarcastic, acidic forum arguments to try and find people who actually want to talk about the actual topic of the thread, please do not do the following.

*Call the writers incompetent: It's rude, unproductive, and annoying to those of us who actually like the game.

*Complain about the writing when it has little/nothing to do with the conversation at hand: It's perfectly valid to not like the writing, and also valid to voice those opinions, but only in certain contexts.

*Don't argue your grievances ad nauseum. It's the internet, and people aren't going to agree with you, but that's no reason to strangle a perfectly good discussion with a relatively minor disagreement.

So I ask, please, for the sake of everyone, to stop arguing and complaining about the writing. If you must, please do so at the appropriate threads, and not in the midst of unrelated discussions. I'm only asking this because I'm tired of arguments. You may not like the writing, and I can see where you're coming from. But I do not want to hear about it. Thank you, and goodbye.

I will stop complaining about the writing when:

-Prometheus isn't such a [insert allusion to vulgar body part here]
-The plot holes with Praetoria are filled in
-Villains are not written as on-demand-heroes AND that fact is no longer made fun of by the writing team*

If you don't like arguments: please stay off the internet.

Seriously, you may as well go to Grassworld and tell people to stay off the grass. It's a losing battle before the blueprints are drawn up for the gun that is to be manufactured to fire the first shot.

If what certain italic people say bothers you so much you can always ignore them. There's a nifty feature to do just that.

We already have. It hasn't.

Edit this post has been mostly invalidated by the above link to Moff's Law. I still feel that their are some posters on here that take an undue amount of pleasure in finding faults in the story and pointing them out at times, but they are far an few in-between.

Or you can just, you know, not look at every little detail of the story with a microscope looking for the plot holes with a fine tooth come.....

Just sit back and enjoy the story as it is without trying to find flaws in it....

We're not. We can see the flaws from way out here in the nosebleed section.

@Kirsten,
As has been shown here, the few you have aimed this at will do nothing but complain about things.
Why? Because they believe that /their/ opinion is so vastly superior to everyone else.
And they will argue endlessly to prove a point...

Because you know, its extremely easy to complain and criticize other peoples work from other side of a computer screen...

But hey, that's the internet, right? Where it's everyone's god-given right to complain and *PANCAKE* about everything that they don't agree with 100%.

But you know, I have one reassuring thing that makes me smile...

Clearly the Devs know when to listen, and when to simply ignore the angry vitriol from some people.

*smiles big and happily noms popcorn as she plays the game she likes, writing and all*

Actually I find it easier to do so in person, when reasonable opportunity presents itself.

I'll second the OP here.

Offering constructive criticism can be valuable - it gives the writers feedback, and opens up a conversation in which other players can also give feedback.

Vicious vitriol isn't helpful. It's depressing to read, and it creates controversy only for its own sake. It isn't about what is being said, it's about how it's being said.

It also creates an environment in which the criticisms are dismissed out of hand ("oh, look, it's that jerk again."), regardless of how valid the basic premise of the argument might be.

Say what you want, just don't be a ****** about it.

Remember, be sure to just create a blanket dismissal of those who *do* try to enjoy the lore and keep tripping over things that are badly done. No, it doesn't matter in the least that that's the part of the game they like, and that the forums are really the only place to *air* those grievances... no, no, just go ahead and dismiss them because you don't feel it's important.

Ah! So you'll see Venture's "Moff's Law" and raise him one Krahulik-Holkins Postulate?

EDIT: I just realized the irony of us arguing over when, where, and why we should/shouldn't be arguing.

This wouldn't be an issue if there was consistency.

There isn't. We get gems like D-Mac and Leonard's arcs.....and then we get the Sister Psyche to Penny Yin copy-paste bloody mess that happened recently.

The Dev writers have SHOWN they can do good stuff. Ergo, there is NO excuse for producing half baked junk anymore. This isn't Issue 1.

Edit: You also made me agree with Venture. Bah, I say!

Said much more succulency then I would have. Thank you Kirsten.

A question is what is the writing?

I have done the Penny Yin tf several times and really enjoyed it - but I haven't read any of the text. The way the game is set up, only the team leader actually sees the story.

Is the writing the plot, the text, or the whole thing?

Have you ever had something you didn't like about the game? Then you've agreed with Venture.

For my part, I play this game for the GAME - the story is just fluff. I enjoy it when it's good, and ignore it when it's bad. C'mon, people, we're dealing with a game based on comic books - if the writing weren't wildly inconsistent, it wouldn't have that *authentic* feel.
