While I appreciate the effort that went into this issue I have a problem with how the Super Reflexes and to a lesser extent Energy Aura powersets will be adversely affected by Invention Origin Enhancements. It is my hope that a redname will speak about this problem in the forums before Issue 9 goes live.
Other than that one (very important IMHO) issue I like the additions to the game that Issue 9 represents. And in particular I want to say; "Thank you for fixing the base kick bug."

pfft. any travel except for super speed can get around the shard easily. You just need to have a little practice with the jump vents for SJ.

Ok I seriously need to say this....
What makes you so special on posting first after a dev? Tell me. I don't get this phenomena. I made a thread about a month ago on this but eventually it got derailed too far by some people so it was locked. But yet this keeps happening and mods don't seem to care.
Yeah, I can just not read it, but its a little hard when its right after a dev. You wasted your time to post "Weee, I'm so special I posted first after a dev! I want a cookie!" then went back and edited saying "Oh...after reading it, here's something to contribute to what was posted" (not exact quotes but still damn close).
Anywho, with that out of the way, I'm happy to see what I10 brings. No clue what enemy group will become friends but its obvious on who is returning and who was a friend, now an enemy

I swapped my SJ out for SuperSpeed on Test and was still able to go from Zulu to rim of the Storm Palace in about 15 minutes all via geyser jumps.
The Rularuu DID leave Paragon City. Except for one mission in Orenbega (?), they stay well away from our dimension now.
But anyway....

And it should be made clear Lighthouse is NC Soft hence a orange name not a red.

First, thanks for the update. I think these State of the Game messages are a great idea.
So, onto the posssibilities:
-A villain group returns = 5th Column Return. Lets say, led by the Reichsman.
-An old friend returns as an enemy = Hero 1 Leads a new Rikti invasion of Paragon and the Rogue Isles
-Enemies become friends = Co-Op Zones dealing with the above. At an extreme, perhaps cross over, but I consider that doubtful
And while all this content sounds very exciting, its when it gets delivered that will be critical. Hopefully future issues will not take as long to devlop, if a hold is put on developing new systems or new graphical gew-gaws.

I don't see the next couple of issues taking nearly as long as I9 did. This issue probably introduced the most backend changes this game has seen since PvP was introduced. The next couple look to just be story-driven, meaning mostly just a few new tilesets here & there along with a couple new zones (hopes for new powersets as well ).

Don't get your hopes up this is probably in reference to the Hero-Villain cooperative zone, not anything earth-shaking like the Rikti switching sides and aiding us.

So....... Hero1 has had enlightenment from the Rikti and has now become fully integrated into a clothes-less society and wants to come back and spread the virtue of this way of life.
But do we ALL have to grow such large heads to join the Rikti lifestyle? I know that "bald is beautiful", but I kinda like my hair also. And where are the females? Will Hero1 become a "herm" as well?
So many questions........

Please use this thread to discuss the following announcement:
Three years. For some on the Development Team, the amount of change over that time has evolved the game to bear only a slight resemblance to its original form. In just the past 12 months weve published three major updates: Issues 7, 8, and now 9 (coming very soon). Seven and Eight added a ton to the game in terms of content for players to chew through, and now Issue 9: Breakthrough adds a completely new spin on things with the Invention System.
Now, new players get to see the fruits of years of hard work right away. They experience a game that has always had Inventions, Consignment Markets, the Rogue Isles, Supergroup Bases, Mayhem/Safeguard missions, Striga, Croatoa, Arenas, Badges, and everything added to the game since launch. We are certainly not done yet and look forward to the rich promise the future holds!
But lets not forget the present. Issue 9: Breakthrough is probably the biggest change made to the game yet! We think its a dramatic change for the better. Adding in the Invention system was a daunting task. It needed to be a system that integrated smoothly into a three year old game and appealed to our current class of players. Based on your feedback, it sure feels like a success on both counts. The Invention system makes characters stronger, more diverse, and adds a whole new level of excitement to the game. Weve had many players urging us to put out Issue 9 onto the live servers, bugs and all, because the game they were playing on the Training Room was more fun and engaging than the current live version of the game. Higher compliments could not be made.
Whats old is new again, and thats exactly what the team wanted the Invention System to do. Defeating your foes never felt as satisfying as when you get a great Recipe off them, something you need for your character or something that you can sell for big Influence on the Consignment Market.
Statesmans Task Force is also a great addition, as it allows a lot of things that players had asked for, like Heroes getting a Mayhem-style mission. In addition, it nicely wraps up some storylines from City of Villains, like learning the true purpose of the big web-array in Grandville. That and who doesnt like getting to throw down with the elite of Arachnos? Great fun!
