Discussion: State of the Game Address
[ QUOTE ]
Weve had many players urging us to put out Issue 9 onto the live servers, bugs and all, because the game they were playing on the Training Room was more fun and engaging than the current live version of the game
[/ QUOTE ]
I must say, tho i wasn't one who said that exactly, id rather see any bug no matter how small, if ive seen it or not, be crushed before going live...
but to enforce that quote. after i was let in on the second group of the closed testing, i was playing test more than i was on live, not because i was just testing, but because it was indeed MUCH more enjoyable than live.
i will say, that issue 9 TOWERS over issue 8. issue 8 is a small increase compaired to issue 9.
safeguard missions, the revised faultline, and other changes in issue 8 are nothing compared to whats coming in issue 9!!!
I congratulate the Devs on such a great issue.
its so great, i really don't care if any bugs really get trough on live, i'll still be the biggest blast EVER!!!!

When we turn our eyes to the future we see some pretty awesome stuff coming together. New costumes, new temp powers and new inventions. A villain group returns with a dramatic change that will shake the very foundation of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. An old friend returns as an enemy. Enemies will become friends. Issue 10 and beyond is really shaping up nicely!
[/ QUOTE ]
First, thanks for the update. I think these State of the Game messages are a great idea.
So, onto the posssibilities:
-A villain group returns = 5th Column Return. Lets say, led by the Reichsman.
-An old friend returns as an enemy = Hero 1 Leads a new Rikti invasion of Paragon and the Rogue Isles
-Enemies become friends = Co-Op Zones dealing with the above. At an extreme, perhaps cross over, but I consider that doubtful
And while all this content sounds very exciting, its when it gets delivered that will be critical. Hopefully future issues will not take as long to devlop, if a hold is put on developing new systems or new graphical gew-gaws.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry to burst any bubbles, but I'd guess the old friend would be Malaise. If my lore is correct, he went nuts on Sister Psy and hasn't been seen since.....
As for enemies being revamped... Reichsman might have something to do with that.

By jove, I think you've got it.
Or we will both be wrong.

I'd bet really good money on the return of the Reichsman and the 5th leading to a Hero and Villain team-up.
I mean, think about it... The Reichsman is not about to play second fiddle to anyone, the Fifth Column Loyaltists would still be smarting over the Council taking over, and the Reichsman is just as powerfull (If not even more so) then Statesman. And, considering that Lord Recluse wouldn't be able to manipulate Reichsman as well as he could Statesman, he'd know full well that Reichsman would be a grave threat to his desired future.
Suffice to say, Reichsman will be a major player. I bet dollars to donuts on it.

Malaise was my first thought as well. I'm not familiar with the "Hero 1 being altered by the Rikti" idea, though it sounds interesting.
Smokin' Joseph - Lvl 50 DM/REG Scrapper - Freedom
Dr. Dirtnap - Lvl 48 Stone/Stone Tanker - Champion
Colonel Sycophantova - Lvl 38 Merc/Traps MM - Champion
Silver Streak - Lvl 50 Fire/NRG Blaster - Champion
Invisible Dragon - Lvl 33 MA/Ninjitsu Stalker - Infinity
Malaise has been made a hero again already, its just happened "off panel" as it were. He shows up as a hero in CoV, he's back in the Vindicators.
Also, for Hero-1 getting riktified, just check the cover of the final CoH Comic. Like so. Also, this thread.

"Enemies become friends"? ... Interesting.

Don't get your hopes up this is probably in reference to the Hero-Villain cooperative zone, not anything earth-shaking like the Rikti switching sides and aiding us.

My guess is Hero 1 comes back changed/corrupted by the Rikti.

Gosh where could you possibly have gotten that crazy idea from?!

Nice links there.
The Malaise thing is weak. On their part, not yours. Lately they seem to be messing up the continuity more and more. Meh.... Maybe Marvel will start another lawsuit for that... JK

All that aside (and they're all things mentioned back when there was to be a box set, and all things I'm looking forward to,) I'm going to disagree with one bit:

Whats old is new again, and thats exactly what the team wanted the Invention System to do. Defeating your foes never felt as satisfying as when you get a great Recipe off them, something you need for your character or something that you can sell for big Influence on the Consignment Market.
[/ QUOTE ]
Honestly? Satisfying moments for me were things like the storyarc telling you about the Malta titans, the Revenant Hero arc, the Freakylimpics, beating the end of the Citadel TF when it was down to my Emp and a Fire/* troller. Completing the Kheldian 1-50 arc the first time. FINALLY beating Nosferatu.
Want a satisfying reaction, take someone through the Eden task force the first time. The stream of "Wow" and "oooh, cool" still makes me grin - because I still feel the same way.
I9 is bringing some changes, yes, but getting scrap to sell isn't really high on my "wow" list. No, you can't please everyone - I'm mostly saying that, for me, this is marking time 'til the *story* kicks into high gear again.
As someone who cares very little about i9 and all the annoyance that is coming with it (*growls at the hated hostage changes*)...
At least I have i10 and i11 to look forward to.

Isn't this Positron's job?
It being a State of the Game address and all... It would be helpful if we got it from someone actually involved with the development of the game.
On a side note. Do we get a badge this year and a reward for having both badges from the prviouse years like last year?

If the w00t Radio interviews are any indication, they're pretty busy getting I9 ready to go live.

... which is why I didn't bring that up. Still like to hear from them once the dust is settled, though, with something a touch more in depth.

If the 5th Column rises again, then it has to be restructured...
...so wouldn't that make them the 6th Column?
Commence Crazy Rant:
What if the 5th Column returns and they are good guys because of the hate for Nictus. I for one cheer their return and hope that they expunge Earth of the Nictus in all of their forms including the foul taint of the Kheldins!

haha We didn't even like allying with the Russians in World War II. That war was far more desperate than the fight against the evil, cruel, heartless, fiendish fuzzies of doom who plan to cover maybe their city block with their rule.
Doom.
Yep.
This is really doom.
Issue 10 will FINALLY continue the COH/COV storyline after almost 7 issues with no progress. Im almost 100% positive the "Villain group" they are refering to is the 5th column that we have not seen since issue3 when they were ran off by the council. as for Hero returning and evil, this almost has to be referring to Hero1, he will most likely be siding with the Rikti now, issue10 looks to be awesome....
<QR>
And who's to saw we aren't getting dual set of threatsnnew threasts to deal with. It's sounds like the 5th Column returning would fit nicely into the threat facing both Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. And the return of Rikti 1 and friends sounds likes mutual danger for the new moon coop zone. (Yeah I've placed my bet on what the new zone is.) And yeah enemies becomeing friends sounds like the new coop-zone.
I for one am looking forward to getting a toon to level 20, so I can earn the right to wear a TV on my head.
