VIP Until: Feb 16, 2012
Oct 12, 2011 City of Heroes Freedomâ„¢ 400 Paragon Points VIP Completed
I used to get Vet Rewards on the 31st/1st (which always ticked me off, since my billing date has never changed and was always the 16th). I have received no tokens since Freedom's release. It appears I got a server transfer(s) though. I bought the pack that was on sale, which was what? 5 transfers? I used 1 and now have 6.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the application of VIP rewards and no way to monitor anything besides PP in our accounts (unlike before when it would show when Vet Rewards would be earned). Really not pleased. -
I tried checking for any other posts about this, but apparently the terms are a touch common :P Bugged in game, but haven't even gotten a confirmation email, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to add it here, now that I can finally log in.
I've been running a Time Manipulation/Beam Rifle Defender over on Exalted and noticed that she was frequently running with a damage debuff on her, even while doing nothing at all. I didn't catch it at first, partially because I usually had some form of Magic Fortune running on her, which masks the issue as many have +damage. It also doesn't occur with a team smaller than 4 players.
The damage effect from Vigilance is completely wacked out. If I look in Combat Attributes on a team of 4 or more, it basically gets listed out like so:
Vigilance -9.00%
Vigilance -9.00%
Vigilance -9.00%
Vigilance 18.00%
(numbers are just an example and change depending on the level of the team)
It appears Vigilance is applying one too many debuffs to counter the buff. The end result is a constantly applied damage debuff on any team of 4 or more.
I may do a bit more testing. I have only checked on teams of 4 or 5 for the higher amounts, but as there was no change in the debuff going from 4 to 5, I didn't check bigger teams. -
-
I only have one AT that I cannot stand... Stalkers. They feel weaker than Scrappers, in both damage and survivability, and it's just not fun. I'd rather play all those sets as a Scrapper, Brute, or Tank, which is why the only Stalker I have is Ninjitsu, the only set that another melee AT can't get.
All other ATs I enjoy, though within each is a powerset that I just can't seem to like.
Control sets: Illusion. I've managed to finally get one up to 25, but I had to pair it with an active secondary (Storm) to be able to do so. I find myself using the secondary for control purposes far more than my primary, which is just wrong. I play a Controller to control.
Gravity and Mind come in close behind. I hate that Gravity has a control gap because of Dimension Shift, and Wormhole can be hard to master. And Mind... much as I LOVE Mass Confusion, the recharge is way too massive, especially after playing a Plant Dom, that I just can't bring myself to enjoy it without a pet. Got a Mind Controller to 50 and she's been sitting, unplayed, ever since. All the NPCs with high levels of Psi Def/Res didn't help matters either.
------------
Blast sets: Assault Rifle and Devices. I just can't. I've tried several times, but as soon as the KD of lower levels turns into KB, it starts driving me batty. I don't mind KB. I like Energy Blast and Khelds. I hate RANDOM, SPORADIC, UNRELIABLE KB. Turn all the KB into 80-100%, and I'd probably play the set, but 25-50% is way too low. And Devices... Traps' weaker, less useful cousin. I look at the powers listing and say "Ooo... Trip Mine!" and that's about it. I have great concepts for this pairing, but don't see myself rolling one any time soon.
I also have problems with Radiation Blast and Electric Blast for non-Blaster ATs. I really find myself missing the big hitter in Electric Blast, and Radiation just... under-performs with the long animations and low damage. Both sets are close to unsoloable for me, which is pretty much a no-go. I took both sets to 50, Empathy/Electric and Radiation/Cold, but I don't think I'll ever use them again. They are FANTASTIC on teams, but yeesh.
---------
Buff/Debuff sets: Forcefields, Empathy, and Thermal (and Sonic to a lesser extent). I love support ATs, but there's something about those sets that I just can't get into. Forcefields is far too one-trick pony. Yes, improvements have been made, but eh. No debuffs and some minor KB controls just leave me feeling bored.
Empathy. The only time I've ever enjoyed playing my Empath was on the RO Green Machine teams, because crashless nukes are too much fun. If I'm the only one on a team, meh. Don't get me wrong. The buffs are great and it's a very active set, but this one again falls into the 'no debuffs' problem area. I always felt useless when a team was going up against AVs.
Thermal could be fun, and should be fun for me, but it just wasn't. The debuffs come too late and do too little. A team would survive well when I was around, but would be sucking wind, especially me. I really found myself wishing for some sort of +recovery power.
Sonic should be great. I like the mix of powers, but hated the endurance costs, forced teaming to use one my only debuffs (Disruption Field) and the stupidly massive recharge on Liquefy. I mean COME ON! It's essentially Earthquake + tiny damage + tiny chance for hold. Does it really need a 300 second recharge? Earthquake has a 90 second recharge. Another set I don't foresee myself playing again.
------------
Armor sets: Stone. Honestly, that's the only one. It feels quite squishy with just the low-level toggles, and the lack of mobility drives me nuts. As Bas put it at the beginning of this thread, nothing can stop you... except a slightly too tall curb. Forced travel power selection and needing some sort of +run buffs to keep me from needing to use that travel power constantly is annoying as hell. I have minor quibbles with other armor sets (KB and Psi holes in shields) but I'll still play them more readily than Stone.
Melee sets: Honestly, I like most of these sets. The ones I'd be least likely to play again though would be Dual Blades, Kinetic Melee, and Energy Melee. I played an Energy Melee Brute to nearly 50 before the Energy Transfer change. I find it hard to play her now.
Dual Blades... fantastic concept, poor execution. Not being able to switch between combos seamlessly when an attack misses... gah, it pisses me off beyond belief. And I really find myself wishing for the -Def every other sword set gets so that the whole concept behind the set, combos, can actually be useful.
Kinetic Melee... another fantastic concept, and I really like the look of it, but I just can't get into it for some reason. I think it's the same problem I have with Radiation Blast. Too much moving about, not enough result. Which is weird, because I don't have the same issue with Dual Pistols and Dual Blades. *shrugs*
----------
Henchmen: Ah Ninjas. You squishy little men. I had two Ninja MMs. Got one to 50, deleted the other. I just couldn't go through it again, especially the last 10 levels. Melee using NPCs should not die that easily. I found myself respawning them more than I do my Thugs, and those boys are supposed to be squishier. I'm not really a big MM fan in general, though I do love my Demon/Pain, but Ninjas nearly turned me off the AT for good.
----------
EATs: This one is more of a build specific. With the VEATs... It was a struggle, but I finally got to like my Night Widow, once I got all her AoEs, and really only when Mind Link is up. As soon as that goes down... yeesh, she is squishy. I haven't tried a Fortunata or straight Widow build, but it oddly doesn't look very appealing. Now the Soldiers, I can't do Bane. I just can't. Too much like an even weaker Stalker (see above about how I feel about that). Now a Crab or Huntsman is just good fun, though I hate the lack of KB protection.
With the HEATs... I can't do Human-only builds. The forms are just too much fun. The closest I have is a Human/Dwarf Warshade. -
Quote:Wow. Way to be a class act. And to be called out by name when Bill specifically did not do so in the original post. Funny that you felt brave enough to do this after I told you I don't go to the forums and specifically that I avoid this area. This post is hilarious for a multitude of reasons.
First, Valk is an idiot. Not only was everything I said "apparently" taken out of context, but it wasn't in a global channel, so your little quip about "facts" had some extra "lol" value.
It's not your post count that makes you pretentious, it's just you. Your post count only heightens your own opinions of yourself.
O, and Samuel Tow? Holy hell is that guys post count a false impression of what he knows of this game.
The fact you even made this topic just goes to show how retarded you are.
Wow. Way to make a first impression. Not only is most of this just wrong, but I think you've also misrepresented someone.
1 post on the forum, and already quite pretentious. A perfect example of post count meaning nothing.
And no, I didn't take your comments out of context. I really wish my copy to file had worked. But I can definitely summarize the conversation.
You insulted Bill, not realizing he had friends on the team/league (I apparently didn't let Bill know that this wasn't in the global channel. He should have assumed it was because I certainly would have silenced you for directly attacking another player). You blamed him and "players like him" for the possibility that Interface Reactive will be nerfed.
I asked you why you named Bill. The reply was essentially (paraphrasing you here) that he wrote long posts, frequently posted incorrect information, was mean, that he thought he was better than others because of his post count, and that people went along with what he said based on said post count.
Let's just say that I went from being pissed at your first comment about him to laughing when you mentioned post count. I really don't know how I could have taken something out of context. It was pretty straightforward. It went on from there, but I pretty much disregarded everything else you said because you had already proven that it was personal and childish.
I told Bill about it to give him ****, since he had pissed someone off so badly that he was getting blamed for power nerfs. We found out why you were pissed off with him without too much difficulty.

Go go internet anonymity! -
Quote:This.I disagree; zone hunts aren't the problem. Things interfering with them are. It's unfortunate if someone gets stuck with this, but I don't think the answer is to remove the objective with a sterile "kill these ducks in this room" replacement.
At least in the Numina TF design, maybe giving a choice of zones for the kill would be the answer. "Arrest 20 Hellions in Atlas Park OR Galaxy City", that kinda thing? That way, if one zone is under Invasion, then an alternate zone would be feasible, but it still keeps the spirit of the hunt requisite intact.
Ran a Numina tonight (was hoping to get my Stormie over the hump to 50, but alas). Not one, but two zone events while we were trying to run the hunts. 15 minutes we had to sit and wait for a stupid Banner event in Steel. It was immensely frustrating. Wanna know the worst part? The damn Outcast ambush attacked in the wrong zone.
If they could at least fix the ambushes to go after people in the right zones so that they get credited to mission objectives, that would be useful. If not, Turg makes a good suggestion. -
Not so much can't, but don't want to. It's tough to find Khan and Barracuda teams too. Tedious and lame TFs aren't high on the fun list and tend to be not run as often. I've run 3 Apex with RO so far (2 successful, 1 not), so hard isn't the issue.

Quote:This is pretty much how I read that. From the Strike Pack thread:
Let me tell you how I read this:
If you want to advance your incarnate character (the initiation of which could be done solo), then you WILL team.
If you don't like teaming then tough because your option in I20 will be Trials. IE like the Cathedral of Pain Trial.
We haven't got any mechanism planned for i20 which allows you to solo to get top tier Incarnate abilities. In fact we haven't really thought about any content for them at all.
- If you can't team because you may need to afk/leave quickly - tough.
- If you want to be in a small team - tough.
- If you or your computer can't handle a Raid or Trial - tough.
- If you actually want to play rather than sit around waiting for a Trial or TF to be organized (and I am looking at you CoP Trial) - tough.
So basically you're confirming here that solo'ists and those who prefer small teams are out of luck.
Lovely.
Those 'soloists' ARE multiplaying but not in the way seen by your limited view.
- They're interacting on the market.
- They're interacting in chat; especially helping people because they CAN stop and explain which you can't do if you're in a fight on a TF.
- They're probably telling their friends about the game who may well be a different element of your player base.
I am not a rabid solo'er. However, I do solo and I would like to think I can work on my Incarnate stuff when I am solo'ing. I don't want to be forced into doing eight Trials to advance because frankly I might as well log out for the period it takes to set them up; at least I'd be getting credit on my day jobs.
I have a little boy who takes up most of my evenings and weekends. I also work slightly off normal hours. I have other family obligations on weekends, in addition to just generally doing things around the home. My normal total of play time for a week? If I'm lucky, 6-8 hours on the weekend between Friday night, Saturday/Sunday while my son naps. During the week? Maybe an hour or two 1-2 days a week.
Also keep in mind that some of that little time I have online is used up with SG duties and other activities. The majority of my teaming? 3 friends and myself. I mix that in with teaming within Repeat Offenders and the occasional TF with them.
All that being said, the direction Incarnate content is going is incredibly worrisome to me and to my small group of friends. We can handle most of the game's content with just the 4 of us (STF/LRSF/LGTF are no go, ITF is rough. Apex/Tin Mage? Hell no). With the way it's looking right now, we'll pretty much be locked out of even more content, which burns the hell out of the completist in me.
I was excited that we could still gain Incarnate abilities just the 4 of us, but now it's not looking like that. It's really disappointing because even just the common slot makes a world of difference on the few I've earned it on thus far (a whopping 3! out of 14 50s). The whole "investigating" thing is not lessening my disappointment, but making it worse. Anytime the word "investigating" comes into play with the Devs, it gives false hope. It's become the new "Soon"... it is not what it implies.
I've attempted the CoP and really despised it. Apex is definitely not my idea of fun and I haven't even been able to get a team for Tin Mage because it is that reviled in RO (my only good source for TF teams). If these new trials are more of the same (tedious, gimmicky, and lame), I'm not looking forward to the year and am starting to regret taking the Christmas subscription deal. -
I will say one thing...
When I hear complaints about Praetorian content, a majority of the time, the person was either leveling a Dom or a Controller (like the OP). Biggest complaint I tend to hear? Destroyers.
For being a 1-20 group, they have way too much control resistance/protection. No other group is even close in the low levels. Only Vahz have any protection, and that's just increased Immob protection. Stack two, and they will stop. The Destroyers are almost on par with Romans... a 35+ group.
If anything needs fixing in Praetoria, it's the Destroyers.
I've taken an MM all the way through the content, a Scrapper through half, and a Corrupter through a quarter. I haven't really had any issues thus far. I am scared for the Elec Dom I'm planning though. -
Techbot, you made me laugh so hard, I seriously almost fell out of my chair.
Made of win. -
Aww...
Really sad to see you go. I remember being so excited and running to Portal to check out the new trainer in Peregrine, then bemoaning your simple and not super awesome costume
You'll be missed Castle.
I know there's a lot of folks over in Repeat Offenders that really appreciate all you've done. Heck, you gave us a motto.
I hope to see you around, even though I don't know who you are in game.
>.>
<.<
Assuming that you aren't a Dev in disguise within RO as it is...
*puts on tinfoil hat*
Best wishes and good luck in all you do. -
I just wanted to post a small message, as this thread will no longer be updated by the venerable Sailor Rush.
Sailor passed away earlier this week. Please bear with us as we work out who will now be updating this thread.
Sailor will be missed. The Repeat Offenders lost a great leader. -
Quote:Totally agreed. This I don't understand... It's really not that hard to make Apex look recognizable with existing costume parts...
I mean, why mess with an established look? The full Vanguard suit looks bad on him...
The Vanguard armor looks good with certain color combinations... and the red/blue on that picture of 'new' Apex looks horrid. He honestly looks as bad as the Merit Vendors (who I swear were designed using "Random").
Keep his established look. Just because he's helping Vanguard doesn't mean he has to dress in their armor. Case in point... ALL THE CONTACTS IN RWZ. None of them wear Vanguard armor.
Oh and also:
I'd be curious to know the answer to this. It would definitely be cause for some slotting adjustments on my Khelds, which will actually be a good thing. -
Quote:Not so much uber, but more complete. It also benefits me in that my builds really won't be so slow building to fruition.I also want to propose a question to anybody who thinks inherent stamina is so important. What 3 powers would you take instead (keep in mind you get no extra slots, just powers) that would make you so uber?
Just a few examples:
Earth/Rad/Stone Controller: Stone Prison, Choking Cloud, Combat Jumping - Gives me an easier immob to stack on AVs, a little extra "Oh Sh*t" melee protection, and some more defense. I could also grab SS instead of CJ to get a bit of stealth.
Dark/Dark/Dark Defender: Life Drain/Torrent, Oppressive Gloom, Soul Transfer - A little extra utility from the blast set (even at the base slot), and some more goodies out of my APP that I couldn't fit before.
Ice/Dark/Soul Corrupter: Aim, Bitter Freeze Ray, Power Boost - more self buffs, and a 4th single target hold. Joy!
EnergyM/Fire/Mace Brute: Taunt, Fiery Embrace, Temperature Protection or maybe the Fighting pool - utility and self-buffs that got pushed down in priority for other powers.
Ninja/FF MM, Sonic/Energy Defender, Fire/Kin Controller: LEADERSHIP!! Wheee!! I don't mind these toggles with just the default slot. It's how I've had to work them in on other characters.
Storm/Dark Defender: Gale, Torrent, Life Drain - MOAR KB!! And a small self-heal
That's just a few. This is not including several characters that currently use Ninja Run as their travel power because they only had one skippable power in their prim/sec sets.
Oh, and I also have... 15 out of 33 main characters that are completely without Fitness, who will now be getting that benefit and can make some slotting adjustments accordingly. If I can work out the slotting on all those characters, I think people will survive with 3 extra powers.
Now... if the Devs just made it so you got 5 slots at level 50 and gave Khelds 2 starting slots in each form power, I would be completely set on the powers front. Costumes though... Kheldian Sash naow kthx. -
Other discussion aside, I think the new enemies are throwing new and old players for a loop. Old players used to low levels of Hellions and Skuls are now getting hit with tough low-level mobs. I haven't died as much as I have been in Praetoria in years.
Hell, I ran one of the new Unai missions with Anti-Matter's Clockwork with a small team and was surprised at how tough it was. Once we started adapting and thinking rather than running on auto-pilot, we actually started rolling.
Smart playing and teamwork is definitely vital in the post-GR world. Kudos to the Devs for stepping things up a notch, even if it means tough missions and teaming for awhile. Now if the villain arcs had only received the same treatment as the hero arcs... I'd be much more pleased. Granted, villains had much harder content/enemies than heroes did.
Oh, and much love M_Bill -
I was having issues with my 54 month badge awarding two months late... I was supposed to get it near the end of September, but I usually forget. Two weeks ago, I logged in and started receiving that badge on characters. I scratched my head, did the math (because I knew it was too soon for the one I usually get in December), and realized that I should have gotten it in September.
I do wonder if the Vigilant badge messed things up... I will be really really ticked if my other vet badges are late as well.
Edit: Yup. My account is completely messed up.

I spent a few hours on Freedom on my badger... my impressions:
-The new event is neat, but definitely insufficient information being given out. If it weren't for ParagonWiki, I wouldn't have understood a thing.
-Faultline really should be taken off the list of zones it can spawn in, or there should not be a banner in the lower area. That was the last banner left when we fought in there, and one group of people stayed in the upper area and had the Mystic Aspect down within two minutes of us defeating the last banner... leading into my third issue...
-The Mystic Aspect GM folds like a wet noodle. I noticed on the feedback from Test that this was pointed out. It either needs to be tougher or there needs to be time between the last banner falling and when it can actually be attacked.
-I did not notice a single villain Deadly Apocalypse while I was on but saw three hero-side. Is this just due to the Deadly Apocalypse messages not showing up while on a hero (yes, I do have villain events listed in my chat) or a triggering issue?
-The treat nerfs really stink. Tier 1 inspirations? I was purposely leaving my tray full to keep from getting them. I used to curse Tricks, but now I curse Treats. -
Quote:I really hope not, since that is the 40-45 Warshade AT arc. If that is the case, his minimum spawning level needs to be looked at, though I doubt that will happen.IIRC Nosferatu has a minimum level of 43, so that case is different, the other two are this bug.
Nope. The team leader was level 30. All those of us who were SSKed were 29, making that AV much more of an "ouch". -
My experiences this weekend thus far:
Level 40 Warshade arc mission set at +1 spawned a level 43 Nosferatu.
Level 45 team running a Founders Falls Safeguard set at +3 spawned a level 51 Barracuda
Level 30 team running the Shaper arc set at +2 spawned a level 35 Barracuda
EBs don't seem to be affected. PCWK was level appropriate as an EB when I ran the Tina Mac mission for him. -
Quote:The Nemesis LT thing has been long standing... I remember that from four years ago. There's a weird transition around level 40 that makes them spawn way high.Last night my level 41 Scrapper ran into a level 42 Nosferatu while solo. His settings are at +0/+0, yes bosses, no AVs. What was weird is that the other guy that spawned with him was level 41.
I'm also having a simlar problem with Nemesis Lieutenants spawning two levels higher than me in missions. It stopped once I hit level 41 though. -

It's now been two hours since a single invasion on Freedom. Can something seriously be looked at in regards to the timer? This is a bit stupid.

1) take a deep breath
2) chill out
zombie EBs look awesome and I got a good laugh from the zombie minions doing a shouryuken like animation befpre popping out of the ground

Why would I need to chill out? It's not like I posted something like ZOMG THIS EVENT IS COMPLETELY BROKEN!!!!!!!1111!!!1! FIX IT NOW OR I QUIT!!!!!111!!1!!
You would think that two and a half hours (now) is a bit much time between invasions. Considering they've been happening several times on other servers during this time.
Can you understand my concern? -

Um, dude. Look at the date of the post above yours. This is the thread for last year.
