The thing about committees is...

...they aren't, generally speaking, secret societies.

Take, for example, the zoning committee for my city. Their meeting minutes are available on the web. The important topics they are discussing sometimes show up in the newspaper. Many of their meetings are open to the public so that we can see what's being discussed, and at some of them, we are even invited to speak. They don't just show up and rezone my neighborhood without me getting a chance to know the topic is even up for discussion.

Supposedly there is a group of people out there to represent my interests in regards to PvP to the devs. Other than a few names I've managed to randomly pick up here and there, I don't know who they are, or what they're working on, or what they've decided not to work on.

Don't get me wrong. Its great that there's a chair of events, and a community representative for each server, and a grand pubah of PvP badges...but who's the friggin' meeting notes recorder? 'Cause that guy's slackin'.

Forget for a moment the whole selection process, can we find out what the committee is and what they're up to, since it's supposedly on our behalf and all?

A committee appointed solely by the devs and reporting solely to the devs, only represents the devs' interests.

Sheema you make some really great points, I believe at this time the committee is formulating their membership lists and the over all structure of their organization.

In the beginning I took willing participants as well as recommendations about who was knowledgeable in PvP and that mixture was the genesis for where the committee is today.

Now since the last month of planning and preparations has taken place we are currently moving into the stage of me being a contact point for the development team and them functioning as an autonomous entity.

That is to ensure they can plan and execute events on their own without any dev involvement or they can present submissions to be reviewed through the proper channels.

Currently because they are in a shift I think your request can not be met but if you give them a little time to shuffle and prepare I believe they will meet your needs as a community to be both a voice and advocate for the various PvP styles.

As far as the unveiling of the event, well it is "Coming Soon" TM.

I can say from my perspective that the submission is stellar, and while we might not be able to meet them point for point on their requests, we have some counter offers to make that are really equitable.

Timing is key, and so we are waiting for the right time to make the presentation and with I9 on the hot plate, it will be kept warm until after that has been served up.

Any direct questions about your committee can be asked via your server representative, BigNord, Darque Duce, or me.

Thanks for your feedback it is very valid.

Don't forget that this group is the PvP EVENT Committee. While we are trying to get the ball rolling on fixes to bugs and other PvPer gripes, our main objective is, believe it or not, an upcoming event.

Excellent point. This primarily sums up much of the frustration from players that I have been hearing. There absolutely needs to be more of an opportunity for the general community to get involved and to participate.

I've said my piece, so I'm not going to keep rehashing the same stuff over and over. But, I do hope the things I had to say were taken to heart and do illicit some changes in how things have been handled/designed up to now.

I thought I would introduce myself, since you mentioned you don't know who many members of the PvPEC are...

I'm the Villain Rep! If you have any concerns or suggestions regarding villains, I would love to put those up for consideration and discussion.
About me:
I lead a large PvEverything villaingroup on Infinity.
I have 27 months of experience with the game, including tons of experience with corrupters, and a level 50 of everything else (except Dom's...dunno why, but I just can't level one.)
I am an Advertising major in College- senior year.
I eat more pizza and drink more mountain dew then any woman should. :P

What I do with the PvPEC:
I am working on a new PvP event type for the arena currently, working on testing the new patch for base raids, and I look over all the planned events to make sure that villain interests are considered. I do a lot of graphical and promotional work for the committee, as well. You'll be seeing some of my work very soon. Oh, and I like to tag Rift with heat exhaustion just for fun.

PM me if I can help you with anything!

Hi folks,

FF here and I'm the chair for the Rewards subcommittee. My group is tasked to come up with the prizes that will be awarded during the upcoming event. The rewards will come in a number of forms, and as much as I'd love to reveal some of the details, I'm sworn to secrecy on alot of it. Suffice it to say, you'll love some of the rewards that we've proposed. If you are interested in giving your feedback or wish to help out, just drop me a PM.

As for PvP background, I've been PvPing since issue 4 and am one of the players on the committee that can backdate to retail release. Ever since PvP came out, I've loved it and the challenge it brings to this game. PvP has forced me to really learn this game, the power sets and its mechanics and have made me a better technical player. I also feel strongly that the CoX PvP engine revolutionary...a MMO that allows you to fight quickly in three dimensions like a FPS. It's a strong interest of mine to see the potential of CoX PvP really take off and do well.

I'm the Justice Rep for the PvPec. I act as the go between for Justice players and the committee. I'm around to address problems, suggestions, ideas, and anything else related to PvP. My contact information is available for all either by PM, email, or messenger IM. That's the meat of it anyway.

I'm also on the Events sub-committee to assist in the generation of game scale events that are coming down the pipe. I've been out of commission for about 2 weeks with an out of state move.. but am just about back in business.

I've been playing the game since just after launch and was in the Arena when I4 was on the test server. I run a large'ish PvE centered SG with my wife, Ele, that takes a lot of time and keeps me from doing as much PvP as I would like, otherwise I'd likely live on Test with the rest of the PvP centric folk. I've helped run events on Justice and have plans for many many more. I filter over to Test very occasionally, although I used to be there more and did get to partake in the Test Server PvP League that Rift made successful.

Need meh.. PM meh.

I'm the Hero Representative for the PvPEC; similar to Darque's role, I'm here to make sure that proposals, ideas, events and the like are equitable towards the heroic side of things, and don't favor those dirty villains too much...

I run a medium-sized sg on Champion that does a little of everything. I'm a Test server PvP nobody, but I do fairly well for myself in the minors on Champ. I've got a special interest in base raiding, as that was one of the ideas that attracted me to the game in the first place, ages ago, and one of the most fun activities available in the game now, imo.

Most of my contributions to the Committee so far have been storyline development and research into player-generated content in the game industry, so that we aren't working in a vacuum. Player-developed ideas and volunteer work are increasingly being viewed as a valuable asset to game developers all over. We're hoping to get a little more of that kickstarted here

Please feel free to PM me if I can help you with anything

Going with the flow here.

Hi, my name is Lohr and I have had a problem for a little over a year.

I am on both the event and tournament committees. I am trying to help build some good events for you guys. Stuff thats fun while catering to both heroes/villains and the casual/hardcore PvPer.

I have been playing for a little over a year. I am extremely active on my server. I run all different kinds of events trying to get everyone involved. While I am a casual PvPer, I am attempting to get all my PvP alts up and running, but RL has a tendancy to get in the way. I am leader and founder of both an SG and VG on Protector.

As for the real life stuff. I have a business degree and I work about 60-70 hours a week at an investment management firm in philadelphia. Give me a beer and a cheesesteak and I am happy girl.

If there is anything I can do, feel free to send me a PM.

Hi, I'm Azrhiaz. I am casual PvPer and an avid base raider. I run a mid-size group on Triumph and try to keep them and our coalitions having fun in the game. I've been playing the game for nearly 2 years.

I am on the Rewards committee with Fury, hatching and graphically creating do-able rewards and ways to earn them. I am also on the event committee with Rift and have been designing banners for the different PvP events this committee has come up with.

Real life? I do web/graphic design and work in visual effects (2D) on movies. However, I'd much rather be at a heavy metal show or in the kitchen baking cookies.

Hey everyone... I volunteer along with some other great people in the Events and Tournaments subcommittees and am the liaison for Pinnacle. I have a strong FPS background and still wander back to my roots to play when I feel the need to. CoH is my first and only MMO and I enjoy it immensely. I, like the rest of you, would love to see some things fixed/leveled out... but more importantly I want to see the community come together to appreciate this aspect of the game more. I'm seeing some of the things coming together from the committee and am pretty excited.

I mostly play on my home server, but really have enjoyed participating in some events on test such as the PvP League that Rift held. I have had the pleasure of hosting successful PvP events on Pinnacle and while we have a one of the smallest server populations, we do have some really great PvPers. I hope to bring them some great events to participate in and look forward to watching people get rewarded for their practice and skill. As for the big events... I can't give details yet, but wow...

Maybe you will get your chance... but ultimately I think you might see a common thread amongst them. They are organizers. You can teach someone to PvP, but organizing, well now that's a skill worth pwning.

Most of them run and operate SG's and VG's as well as organizing events for their servers. So they might not be well known to people who frequent here, but if you hop on over to their turf they might just be someone with a rep behind their efforts.

The event was designed with PvP in mind, these are PvP oriented rewards etc. But the people coming up with all of that don't all need to be knee deep in the ring.

I work with diverse people to get diverse results, and I for one am betting on some satisfied community members once we roll out the red carpet of the event.

Now I know most of the skepticism revolves around the fact that you have had promises made to you in the past, and maybe those were broken, maybe they were borked, maybe they were all out dropped.

But if any of you recall, and I know that thread is still kicking over in the PvP general section that before I did anything I told you I wouldn't make promises that I couldn't keep.

I could promise an event, and even if we have to endure through some crashes, or griefers or what have you, we are doing our best to plan for those incidences.

Lets just say this isn't the first time I have been involved with large scale PvP events in an MMO, and even though I will be the first one eliminated on the match floor, it doesn't mean I don't get how to plan for a really great event. I don't see how I can't be absolutely awesome at one without being credible because I am not awesome at the other.

I think that those of you that are hung up on reputations and people being known or not are going to have to deal with that on your own terms and in your own ways.

But before you come hassling someone that you don't know, you better be aware that they might have been the champion behind the idea that really makes your head turn. These folks, those here now, those that were there before and those that come after have the interest of creating great events for people who PvP.

When it's all said and done, it will be your choice on whether you wish to participate or not... but I know that even with my gimped skills I am going to the mat. Because I know I will have fun.

Hello Everyone,

To introduce myself , as the name says..Im Genna. The PvPec Chair Person.

I am in the Earthguard SG on Champion Server. I run the pvp aspect of our group. We primarily Base Raid and Zone Pvp. We are coalitioned with HVND. I have been in the game since May of 2004. I have been involved in various server and cross server events both pvp and pve.

My immediate goal in joining the PvPec were to help stop the bleeding off of our high end pvp'rs. Not my only goal but it was the most immediate in my opinion..

The main reason we appear to have this "secretive" nature is simply because we weren't prepared to discuss anything yet..We are still in the building process...

Once we have something definitive to present to you...we will!..We are actually anxious to start getting things rolling!

Ex Committee members leaking incorrect information and creating a level of paranoia is really not helpful..

We can not possibly include everyone on the committee. I encourage everyone to utilize their server reps and hero/villian reps if they want to submit feedback to the committee.

Once our web page is finished you will be able to apply to the committee for various levels of participation.

We hope to plan two major PvP events per year....Summer/Winter.. Its THAT simple... We hope to start our first event the begining of May. We will release the details of the event as soon as we have something definitive. We are looking to run a series of educational events as well to help people who have never PvP'd before or who would like to improve their skills.

If in our efforts we can bring some much needed attention to the problems with Pvp thats great, but it is not our primary focus. We will try to do as much in that area as we can, but we need the help of everyone.

Some servers already have a wonderful PvP presence or systems for events. We want to work with existing groups not against them...

We are still finding our groove so to speak...We don't have an official roster of members yet as it is changing while we get ourselves organized.

Right Now the Committee looks like this:

Chair Person
Server Reps and Committee Chairs
Hero/Villain Reps
Members

The structure is for organizational purposes. All opinions are equally considered.

We also have opportunities for Event Volunteers, Officials, Judges, and Coaches.

The committee was selected from members who had contacted ExL and LH about PvP events and PvP in general. Then from member's recomendations and volunteers.

We were not hand picked by the Devs...we did try to make every effort to include people from all levels of pvp...from those who are complete newbs and don't really care for it as Pvp stands today to the high end we LIVE to pvp'r...Zone, Arena and Base Raiders...

With that in mind it is very important that our members respect each other's views and are open to hearing from everyone. We are not all pvp 'leet or the forum elite.

I urge you all to please wait until we have something to actually announce before jumping to conclusions and conspiracy theories...

As far as ExL's involvement with the committee. She helped get it organized and made herself available to answer questions. Once we had ourselves on a path ..she simply posted she wasnt going to be watching over every little step we made any longer...The whole ExL quit the committee now their done is just more exaggeration and hype...

What can I tell you about the Event we hope to throw? ...Not a darn thing right now ...But soon!

Ok Ok ok...I will tell you this...There will be NO BADGES involved... ...There will be something (rewards wise) for every type of player in the game....and *IF* it happens will be like no other event in CoX history. Look for more details soon!

Finally..we are but one of what I hope will be many player run committees. There will be plenty of opportunities for people to get involved where their intrests lie...Supporting our efforts help all of us in the long run.

We appreciate your patience and support. Please feel free to PM me at anytime with questions or concerns.

How about this?

How about the PvP community makes their OWN committee...Libris acts as a Community "representative" and supports this committee, instead of planting cronies like yourself in the head positions...and we use you and other players to help out?

Sounds good to me, insane I know that a Community Rep. would actually let the "community" guide themselves and pick their own leaders, but hey I'm a crazy guy, lol.

I nominate Rift for Chairperson.
