Attacks on Developers and Moderators
Statesman, your high-road responses seem vaguely inhuman. I would respect you much more if you made veiled jabs at detractors or perhaps called them names. People are certainly entitled to have an opinion, but sharing it is another matter. Since you've got all the inside information on the game, you can let people know when they say things that are terribly stupid. Otherwise, they may stay under the impression that the words they spew out are good ideas instead of intellectual vomit.
I mean, you probably had your share of idiot customers when you worked in retail. There were probably a couple that got told to jump off a bridge and/or never return, right? The same rules apply here! Usually, it's the mods' job to do that sort of thing, but I'm sure you could hop in now and again to tell people they need to (censored) in many hurtful words.

To be honest, criticism comes with the job. I'm not fond of personal attacks, but I understand that people are passionate. Heck, I worked in a comic book store (yep, I was comic book guy), so I understand the vagaries of working with the customer. One thing is tantamount, however - you guys are the PAYING subscribers. I might not like the feedback, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Admittedly, honey is usually more effective than vinegar, but I always try to look beyond that...

Honey was my yearly subscriptions which you wont be getting anymore. Its month to month from now on for me how do you like that vinegar.
[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't that paying them more money?
[/ QUOTE ]
No because now I can cancel and come back when I feel like paying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Did you know you get a discount when you buy larger chunks of time? So, if you're paying monthly, you are paying more per month than when you pay yearly.
[/ QUOTE ]
$14.99 a month
$143.40= $11.95 a month
$36 difference
Yes I do but as I see it now , I wont need to pay for at least 6 months out of the year. Ill just play every other month , since it takes at least 4 months for any new content to come out. And if its nothing I like I can wait till the next issue.

Ok, just sounded kinda odd a couple posts ago. Hey, it's your bill, if your cool with it, then it's all good right?

Actually alot of the people who are posting fairly hostilly care deeply about the game. The problem is that they don't express themselves well. Their passion expresses itself in an adversarial fashion. So instead of offering constructive criticism to improve the game they offer destructive criticism. But they are expressing their very passion and care. Just in a poor fashion.
Frankly posting in a neutral or at least nonconfrontational manner often has a better response. but people learn the confrontational approach.
Additionally getting into psycology a bit some people post their ideas and wrap them in their emotion. This isn't necissarily bad but then others come along and dissect the idea and disgard the emotion. The first group doesn't like or appreciate how their idea is dissected and examined so come back even stronger. The reality of this is just conflicting personality types.

I'm afraid I disagree with you.
The mods, as of late, have been having a bad habit of locking too many on-topic, CoX related threads, whilst allowing major flame-wars, character assasinations, and other silliness to continue.
As for the Devs. CoH/V are two great games. That said, I'm personally not pleased with what they've been concentrating on as of late; I'd rather have more content/villain groups/zones/bug fixes, ect. than loot. That's just my personal opinion.

Letting people know they can provoke him would just incite more attacks and forum drama. Demonstrating to people that they can upset you is giving them a form of power over you.
States is a big boy, he can take the criticism and laugh at the off the wall stuff. As well, as the public face of Cryptic, he'll undoubtedly be looking for further investors and partners for other game projects in the future. I doubt he'd want to do anything in public that might make people skeptical of his ability to keep his cool.

It's interesting that you'd come into a thread about taking it easy and not attacking the developers on a personal basis and attacking the lead developer on a personal basis. Gotta love the irony of bittermuch, I suppose.

Statesman if you listening also positron and others I love this game and want to continue playing and support your efforts 100% but im really slummed about finding out about the whole marvel dispute I would hate to have CoX die within the next year or so especially to support a joint company development of Marvels MMO. I know the subscriptions have drastically dropped and since its launch its been down but I WOULD NOT play nor support marvels MMO at any cost. So if you guys are going to call it quits on CoX then I would be greatly disappointed it would be a lost of an excellent game. Could any of the DEVs shed some light on this matter?

I've never been much with name calling. I'll be the first to admit that I've not enjoyed every change in the game, but I'm not about to froth at the mouth over it. All in all, the development team of this game has created a game that I have enjoyed playing on almost an obsessive level for nearly three years. How much room have I to complain? I'll thank them instead.
Thank you for creating, growing and maintaining your game. I've enjoyed it immensely.
Yeah, personal attacks on the developers has annoyed me in every MMOG I've played. I have yet to encounter a situation where the developer actually deserves being called names or the calls for them to be employed (or worse). Criticize the work, not the person.

It's professionalism, and Statesman deserves a lot of praise for having the thick skin that he does. If Statesman were to start making jabs back, how do you think that would look to newcomers to the game that aren't familiar with the situation? I know I've encountered other MMOGs where the devs make shots back, and they've just come across as mean and amateurish. And then, of course, they just get it back from the players just as much. It has to be difficult for the devs to hold their tongues like they have to do, but I'd think ignoring it and being magnanimous would be one of the best ways to handle the situation. It's just sad that posts from the devs have dropped off so much in the past year, likely partially because of stuff like this.
I keep thinking of that old story (urban legend?) where States sic'ed Kronos on a mean team.
No, States doesn't need to jab back at people here... he's got your number in-game though.
I'll go with LadyMage's example though:
States and Co., you've all given me 3 years of fun. There were rough spots, sure. And I've had experiences in this game I wasn't pleased with, but on the whole? I love it here.
Thank you, from the bottom of my little gamer heart.

That was during beta and those characters were going be wiped anyway.
Also, if any rednames are still reading this, I'd love to have a giant monster dropped on me. Any zone. Debt's just another badge but those screenshots would last for-freakin-ever.
Maybe people wouldn't attack them so much if they'd take some communications classes and do a MUCH better job talking to us about fixing major bugs like the crashing that's been effecting far too many of us since I8 was released TWO MONTHS ago? Instead of directly taking on the effective way of talking to the PAYING customers about the ultra crappy game play the past TWO MONTHS with the crashing ALONE, they proceed to keep quiet about progress in fixing the bug, urgency in fixing the bug(I mean it's only been TWO MONTHS), they choose to spend their time talking about animation changes and what other MMOG's they've played before... Priorities are obviously really screwed up here. Don't they realize people are leaving because of the crashing and the inability of the devs to SERIOUSLY address the problem and talk to the community about it? I'm not talking nerfs, etc. I'm talking about a major problem that is effecting MANY MANY people. When 6 out of 8 people on your team crash, then most of them log because they've had enough of the crashing, you do your best to fill the team with new people, and then they also crash and log, it's a serious problem... Attacks on the devs and moderators to spend more time addressing major problems in the game instead of idle chit chat is totally acceptable with this situation because they devs and moderators seem to be tone deaf to important issues effecting the game.

I would have agreed with this before they permabanned LaserJudas for no apparent reason.
Laser apostles don't grow on trees, y'know.
He says no one will tell him why he was banned in the first place.
Yeah, that is bad.
I got a post deleted a while ago for no apparent reason (two weeks after the fact) and when I enquired LightHouse as the message instructed me, I received no reply. Kind of makes you wonder why they give that link to his inbox, come to think of it.

I suppose I haven's seen a lot of his posting, but Judas struck me as a kind of "I R ANGRY!!!" kind of angry, whereas Taser struck me as more of a "You suck!!!" kind of angry. I'm not trying to pass judgement on the guys, that's just been my impression of their posting.
For some reason, I could just never take Judas'es ridiculously exaggerated angrynessnessness seriously. Maybe I just misinterpretted his postings this whole time, but to me he sounded like one of those people who are always in character. Kind of like Craban, if you remember him.

I try to read/listen to peoples' concerns, ideas, suggestions, problems, etc with an open mind and heart. I don't discount that people have their issues with the game and "vent" on the devs.
I will say, though, that I agree with you in that for the most part...this is one HECK of a game.
So, don't panic...I'll /sign it...even if you do get flamed hard by some others.

Whether the game is good or not is irrelevant. You shouldn't run around and call people names. There is no call to accuse States and the rest of lying and conspiring against the players and refering to them as impolite bodyparts.
Look, I don't much like WoW. I think the game is too repetitive, that you can't alt for crap, there's far too much walking, and loot-raiding drags everything down. I think, for starters, they should add a racial talent tree, so that at least an orc warrior will play differently than a human warrior.
See? Lots of complaints, criticisms and suggestions, and not once did I call a single Blizzard employee a name. It's not hard.
You don't have to LOVE a game to be civil. Hate CoH. I don't care. Have nothing but bad thoughts about it. Post them here. But be civil about it.
