Attacks on Developers and Moderators

It's interesting that you'd come into a thread about taking it easy and not attacking the developers on a personal basis and attacking the lead developer on a personal basis. Gotta love the irony of bittermuch, I suppose.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think it was an attack more like a statement. I don't really believe we have to give praise to cryptic or states in a verbal or written responses. The way of a consumer to show pleasure or displeasure with a product is by supporting it with money or not supporting it for that matter. I love this game but as of late, to me it seems the dev team does not care about its costumer base. So I apologize for whatever seems as personal attack.

Thanks for the support!

To be honest, criticism comes with the job. I'm not fond of personal attacks, but I understand that people are passionate. Heck, I worked in a comic book store (yep, I was comic book guy), so I understand the vagaries of working with the customer. One thing is tantamount, however - you guys are the PAYING subscribers. I might not like the feedback, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Admittedly, honey is usually more effective than vinegar, but I always try to look beyond that...

[/ QUOTE ]

I honestly wish that you had more control/influence over the CS with CoH. Sure the in game support is fine... but any support via email is absolutely atrocious. I'd have to say in fact it's probably the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality. It seems that the CS guys just don't want to work. All they do is send out form letters, give vague responses, and do not address issues. It's truly just deplorable.

Honey was my yearly subscriptions which you wont be getting anymore. Its month to month from now on for me how do you like that vinegar?

[/ QUOTE ]it does illustrate the original point rather nicely.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, actually it does not. That was not a personal attack. A personal attack would be calling Statesman (or other) a name or make a disparaging comment about them not a complaint to them about the state of the game.

Complaining about issues with the game or their communication about it is not a personal attack on them.

Disparaging comments on their programming abilities or persons is a personal attack. If every post of someone saying "Please fix the base booting" or "Please fix the DCs" is going to be viewed as a personal attack, then they may as well shut the forums off.

You don't think it was a personal attack? A statement to the effect of "You could have had my money but now you won't, nyah!" is about as close to personal attack as it gets without using insults, in my opinion. There are ways to express displeasure with sevice providers that don't include taunting them. Personally, I find your wording insulting, but that's just me.

Would you be happier with the following:

Statesman, due to the high volume of bugs the past few months and the poor communications (see removal of Holiday temp powers as but one example), I chose to cancel my yearly subscriptions on my two accounts. I may decide to go month to month when my time expires or not.

Many people on these forums are becoming increasingly worried about attacks on developers and moderators. They say it's not only cruel, vicious and immoral, but also blatantly unfair. The moderator is heavy, violent, abusive and aggressive with four legs and great sharp teeth, whereas the people attacking them are usually only a small, greasy Spaniard. Given this basic inequality what can be done to make fighting the moderators safer?

Well, basically it's quite apparent that these little dago chappies have got it all wrong. They prance round the moderator like a lot of bally night club dancers looking like the Younger Generation or a less smooth version of the Lionel Blair Troupe, with much of the staccato rhythms of the Irving Davies Dancers at the height of their success. In recent years Pan's People have often recaptured a lyricism and what we must do now is to use devices like radar to locate the moderator and SAM missiles fired from underground silos, to knock Lighthouse over. Then I would send in Scottish boys with air cover to provide a diversion for the rednames, whilst the navy came in round the back and finished him off. That to me would be moderator-fighting and not this pansy kind of lyrical, evocative movement which George Balanchine and Martha Graham in the States and our very own Sadler's Wells troops could also be used in an auxiliary role in international chess, where... What? ... oh...

They will not know till they are working in a gaming company... its never easy pleasing players who thinks that just because they are paying money means they (developers & publishers) have to listen to them. ..

Give them a break, im sure they are trying their best to work things out for us.. I'm not saying when there is a probelm dont complain and shut up about it, but more oftenly explain and properly describe the problem before exploding in front of them...

Like you they are humans, errors occur but dont let those tiny mistakes brand them in anyway negative...I for one think they are doing a good job and should continue with their progress in maintaining and expanding the game..

Kudos to them..

You know, you can't be snide and sarcastic and shoot for any sort of justification. It's just mutually-exclusive. That's like punching someone and then going "Yeah, but Billy punched a guy in class yesterday and he's the principal's son and he got away with it!" Because some people can get away with something doesn't make that something good.

And don't think I like Positron's view on everything. "All that crap's grey to me - no XP." was funny. "Posi, I really wish we could get some Epics for villains that weren't pastel "darkness" or fish powers, please." "You don't have to use them." "Gee, ya think? That's not what I asked for, though."

We've all had run-ins and disagreements with the developers on many points. Even I still hold a grudge against them for restricting important costume pieces through arbitrary tasks. But just because someone does something bad doesn't make it alright for you to do it, too. Where's your leg to stand on if you condem something, and then go do it anyway?

I would like to just say I agree with the original poster. The Devs have a heck of a game or we wouldn't be here. The real problem is that it isn't only a good MORP it is a better super hero COMPUTER GAME than anything else available IMO. And yes I have played the others and don't care for them.

It is very easy to sit at home and complain about other people's work but if you are in the software industry and work on a large interrated system (and try and coordinate a couple dozen people) you have some idea how hard what they are doing is. This isn't some guy with a C++ program on his PC.

I also agree with most of the Devs calls. It is up to them to decide what gets priority. Even when it isn't something I want/like. I realize I am not the only player. It would be nice if others realized this but I don't see that happening any more than people realizing that the Devs know how to do their job better than someone who has never seen the code.

Take the game as it comes and instead of complaining about what you don't have enjoy what you do.

You know what I do when I'm REALLY pissed off about the crappy performance, the bugs, the constant whining of crashes (that I never see,) the inability to exit buildings, the random 50% drops in performance exiting missions when teamed, the incompatibilities with ATI's drivers, the base kick bug, the COMPLETE lack of communication from Cryptic regarding all of the above, etc, etc, etc?

I log in, turn on hide and ghide, turn off showfps and netgraph, and solo my scrappers and brutes.

The cause of my stress is also my escape from said stress.

Now THAT'S ironic.

Be well, people of CoH.

It might well be just you. Saying he's going from yearly to monthly subscription hardly amounts to a personal attack, even if the "vinegar" comment was unnecessary. It was about as blunt as the Devs have been on occassion.

First I didn't say what I did was "good" in any way shape or form . I was using the "golden rule".
Second , Ever have a coach that was soft spoken with some players and more harsh with others? Most players respond to one or the other. I tried the nice "me" for a while now and I finally gave up.

Truth is that those comments don't get noticed.

On many occassions the Devs have described how they like feedback and the kinds of posts they respond to. You know the kind, with a well stated problem or issue followed by sensible suggestions. But then in practice those types of posts DONT get a response. The posts that get responses are the heated topic and flame-fests, the circular arguments that go on for pages repeating the same stuff.

Squeeky wheel and all that.

No. No kudos to them.

Sure people make mistakes and they're only human, too... however, some of there errors seem to take forever and a day to get corrected (if they get corrected at all), and often they "correct" things in the wrong direction.

And personally, I think they're doing a barely adequate job in continuing to expand the game. Personally, I think it looks to them like the game is winding down in popularity and they are winding down their efforts accordingly... after all, no need to pour all your effort and resources into a sinking ship... especially when there are many ships within swimming distance.

Hell, I expect the population of this game will be (at least) cut in half when the Marvel MMO is released... whether or not its better than COx, gamers will flock to it because its the "new thing" and will have better expectations for its future. Also, being new means it will likely have a higher priority on customer support, kinda like this game did over a year ago.
