I would not recommend upgrading to the GVE goodies if you are inclined to think the Jump Jet Prestige power will be useful for a lowbie.. or in general.

The power is designed to augment travel powers and give them a little more speed while adding vertical ability. I wish I'd known just how "little more" it would add beforehand.

It's useless for lowbies (less than 14) unless you consider travelling at the speed of 3 slotted Hover for 30 seconds as useful.

I'm less than impressed using at higher levels too. I had anticipated more umph and less "is this thing on?" when using it. Lesson learned.

[/ QUOTE ]

So far I have found it very useful on my Lowbie toons. I jump waaaaay up and turn it off. i fall to the ground with 1 or so hit points and run to the closest MOB to let them finish me off, then wake up in the hospital. Very useful for getting to the Arbiter/Kalinda/Quartermaster quickly. I would not do that past lvl 10.

Other than that.... meh

Also interruptible.

It's pretty much a hearthstone, as in WoW. The only limitation being that you can't set it to different places, and the advantage being that it recharges much faster.

To each his own. For me, its a blessing to any superspeeder, since obstacle clearing isn't an issue. It's great for my teleporters, who often find obstacles just out of jumping range, but overkill for a tp. It's great for the flyer- and it's really noticable if you race a non-user with it. It's great for the non-travel-powered, because obstacle clearing is your primary cause for lost time.

So, the Jump Jet power helps those with Super Speed or Super Leap the most?

[/ QUOTE ]
It's a godsend to my super speeders. I think 7 of my 9 main heroes are speeders. 99% of the time, it serves me fine. The remaining 1% is composed of

1. Walls in Perez
2. Canyons in Terra Volta
3. Badges in high places (Top Dog, Ace, Keen Sighted)
4. Mission doors in the middle of Boomtown
5. Nightstar's rooftop
6. Certain rooms in Oranbega
7. Cemetery walls in Dark Astoria

Now, 99% of those 1% are no longer a problem. 30 seconds is enough for the occasional boost I need, and the recharge is acceptable. In the Shard the Jump Pack will save a speeder from one missed geyser jump, but that's about all. Other forms of travel or recall will still be far superior there.

Can't wait to try it on my Kin with IR running. That ought to be some jump.

Can you imagine how powerful the pocket d temp power would be for pvp if it had a reasonable activation time. It would make all escape powers pale in comparison.

[/ QUOTE ]

And that is why it has a long, interruptable activation time.

[/ QUOTE ]

I knew this to be the case. It's just annoying that the multitudes who either don't PvP or wouldn't care if people could do this in PvP have to be inconvenienced. *Sigh*

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think Castle is saying "it would be too powerful in PvP if it had a quick activation time" I think he is saying "it would be too powerful of an escape power if it had a quick activation time" PvP or PvE.

If it was just a PvP issue, they could have simply inhibited it in the PvP zones.

As a means to zone to Pocket D, or even to use Pocket D as a short cut to other zones, the activation time is trivial. The activation time is only really non-trivial if you are attempting to use it in combat, and its explicitly not meant to be used as a reliable means to escape combat.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't really think PvE has much to do with it. Running in PvE is so easy. The mobs give up very quick in most cases. Players chase you down.

I'm not upset about it, mind you, but I know the veteran award base teleport will be the same way.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away we were told the PvE experience would never be altered by the introduction of PvP...o well.

I found the jet to be awesome. As a villain, it let me jump high enough to clear the invisible wall around Breakout, and actually fight in the arachnos/guard/longbow battle (and get my butt kicked).

[/ QUOTE ]

That's interesting. The Christmas Event Jingle Jet wouldn't even let you *fly* over the wall there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, and I tried everything I could to get in with the jingle jet

What it does not do is boost the flight cap. Which is fairly easy to hit already with 3 SOs. So, if you are already 3-slotted with SOs in flight, and thus already around the cap, you will not see a boost, because you cannot go any faster than you are already going.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds great! I can put a single Fly SO in flight, then use the Jump Pack when flying to my next mission. It should easily recharge before I finish the mission, at which point I use it to fly to my next mission...

I LOVE the jump jet. No, it doesn't go far horizontally, but it makes getting on top of buildings or over walls before travel powers no problem at all.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes.

Does everyone remember the early and common missions in Atlas, to the "west" of Atlas' statue ... on the bottom side of some fairly tall concrete retaining walls?

Getting back up over those walls used to always be a PITA. With teh Jump Jet? Easy as pie!

[ QUOTE ]
I just wish I could have gotten it before the CoT hunting mission in Kings Row on my newest character, instead of running around a building looking for a fire escape to take out a nice CoT spawn at daybreak, only to discover this building didn't have a fire escape. And, then having to wait until night again before I could finish the mission.

[/ QUOTE ]
Word of advice: with Hurdle or Combat Jumping ... you can "climb" the KR buildings, by running at the wall and jumping, window-sill to window-sill. Looks silly as heck, but, it works. My first-ever character used to do precisely that, all over the place in KR, from level 6 and up.

Of course .. the Jump JEt renders that trick UTTERLY unneccessary. Yayy. ^_^

Not entirely, what with the recharge time and all, but it's still nice to have.

I have to agree, I tried it out last night in Hollows on a level 8, and maybe I just need driving lessons, but it was faster just to run for the most part it seemed. Its a help if you need a quick vertical boost, no doubt, but I was unable to see any real boost to forward/horizontal movement....any tips..?

Id much prefere if they spent the time releasing end game content

Scarred Dream lvl 50 Ice/Dark Corrupter
Hephaestus II lvl 40 Fire/Thermal Corrupter

It's best for vertical leaps, but you can use it horizontally. The trick I've found is to feather the controls. While moving forward work the spacebar, giving it bursts of thrust, to keep your relative elevation. This way, most of your movement is horizontal while your elevation remains pretty much the same.

Says you.. i love this thing.. its fantastic for PvP

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree with Sal on this. Turg uses Hover primarily as a stable aerial platform in PvP. With JumpJet, I get a very nice turbo boost to kick me around, while keeping the DEF up. And the recharge is fast enough to where I end up using it constantly.

I do wonder how much it boosts regular fly, however. I tried it on my Peacebringer using the lvl 1 flight, and it didn't seem to impact it in any noticeable way. Anyone test this thoroughly yet to run the numbers?

Has any one noticed the little note, i think it is in the help or combat tab, which says (something like) " Jet jets now make you harder to hit."
If this what i think it is..an HUGE AOE -acc debuff?
<<<<<EDIT: played this last night can kept an eye on this feathure...it looks like it is the same buff as hover -knockback protection. You do notice the differance when it come to getting hit and not getting hit.30 sec protection and still grounded (ice/ice tanker) is always good. >>>>>>
As for TPes...ive PVP a flying villian. Just kept out of my range and dropped death. I think with JJ i could have at least got a little highth on him and kept him in range in of my attacks.
<<<Another EDIT: as stated I played lastnight in the hollow. Lvl 9 tanker. The Jump pack did help a lot with getting around and for escapes form the "pit" and purple mods...It also aided in travel speed to.Mainly by jumping obsticals. So yes my vote is that it is an ok newbie power, but the benifits do come with other travel powers...I just wish they would make it slot able.

Ok on the Pocket D/Tiki Lounge TP power does that TP to Pocket D or Tiki Lounge? and Do they have to have the G vs E also to be TP'ed to either or?

Justed wanted to add my 2 inf worth.

For $10 this is good value. I am a happy camper. A few reasons:

1. I REALLY like the Justice pads & costume in general. I like the idea of some extra costume bling too. More costume options are great for those of us that have loads of alts & always seem to do the same thing.

2. That VIP card is just plain handy. I have used it mainly to get to FF or KR fast from those far away places - like Creys Folly or The Hollows. I only need it once every hour but its groovy to have. Nice quality of life improvement if nothing else. Now if they did anything special in the VIP room.....

3. The jump jets make SS a much more viable travel power. So with the changes made to fly & now this for SS things have been getting much better for getting around. No it does not help lowbies but it may help in the other 300+ hours in the game.

Recall Friend and all other TP powers are disabled inside of Pocket D (and that includes the Tiki Lounge), so yes, if you want in the Tiki Lounge, you need GvE.

And the VIP Pass TPs you into the Tiki Lounge itself. The graphics are pretty cool as it powers up to port you in. =)

I myself, love the Jump Jet. It's cool on my SJers, and a godsend for my SSers. Plus, it's a nice afterburner for my flyers, since I'm not going to spend exta slots for fly speed, considering my Dark/Dark Defender's build it tight enough as is ^_^

I have no hard numbers, but I have 3 flight SO's in fly and 2 in hover, with the jump jet on, cycling between the two, I see very little, if any, difference in speed.

I've found that the jump jet and tikiport power (my neologism, but feel free to use it) are both very useful for getting around and out of the shard for TFs. Last night I was doing Sara Moore when a mission in the Hollows came up. Everybody groaned, but those of us with the VIP card were spared the miserable ~3 mile trip back to the Firebase Zulu portal. And as I'm a Peacebringer, the jump jet's little boost to my energy flight comes in handy.

The only problem with the Jumpjet is that it only boosts Jump and Fly powers for forward velocity. Jump for Sprint is very low so not much good for a basic starting toon. This makes the power fairly useless half the time since only Jump, Combat Jumping, Superleap, Fly, and Hover will get the speed boost. Does nothing for Superspeed or Run powers.... except the elevation of course.

I would have settled for the Low-G pack. Thats pretty cool.

As a confirmed Altiholic with several toons under 14 i find the jump jet a godsend. One of the things i Disliked the most with skipping the hollows is that the zones that you hit otherwise all have high walls. The KR shortcut power is cool too.
