Official Claws Animation Thread

I looked at a lot of the posts, almost all as positive as I feel about the changes. Funny how no one I saw mentioned air superiority in their attack chain.
I bounce between focus, attack, AS, attack, rinse repeat. Bosses never can get to their feet. Never.
And the AS helps offset that irritating lethal resist problem we face sometimes. Are my SG mates and I alone in our love of AS in this set?

That is just the attack chain I use with Liberty Eagle (Claws/Regen), on Virtue. I'm regularly able to take down +3 and +4 bosses without ever being touched.
AS & Focus FTW!

I had 2 claws stalkers befor i7 and loved playing them and had no proplems whatsoever with any of the animations. It took a little getting use to but once i got the timeing down i had a blast with them. After i7 there is much less flare to my toons and somuch of the fun is gone that i deleted a lvl 19 claws and remade the toon as a dark/dark stalker. My other claws stalker is lvl 27 or 28 and i am concidering deleting him aswell the claws are just not the fun thay use to be in my opinion all because of animation. I know it will never happen but i for one would be prefer to have the changes reversed the claws were perfectly fine the way thay were now it looks like a brute with claws.
Just goes to show that you can't please everybody.
I like the changes to Slash and Swipe, but Strike still looks fugly to me. Barrage's animation was a bad choice.
Umm. Swipe one two punch is the barrage animation.
Strike is new animation, since my hero is short it could be called Eviscerate little low for a gut punch on most villains
I like the swipe old animation and still think it should replace the current Eviscerate animation.
I like the change to claws.
Longtime,
I'm going to have to ask you to either stop commenting on shortened animation changes, or change you name.
I've noticed a couple things about the new Claws animations that bug me. (I've got a lvl 7 Claws/DA Scrapper.)
1) I seem to be doing a ton of right-handed attacks, very few left-handed attacks. I would kinda like to see the right/left/right/left action flow more. (This is just using Strike, Slash, Brawl, and Taser Darts, mind you.)
2) Whenever I miss with Strike, I still hear the claw sound go off in my left speaker only. I always wonder because of this if there's another Scrapper to my left. It's very distracting.
Other than these couple of items, I'm enjoying the new animations so far.

Air Sup? What, and have me spend time drawing my claws again? You gotta be nuts.
The claws animation updates are great. Good Job Cryptic!
Now, we just need Practiced Brawler/SR changed so it doesn't root you when it goes off...
Total Focus is a hold, right?

The Claws Power sets for both Scrappers and Stalkers have new animations for the powers Swipe and Strike. The animation for Slash has been replaced with the old Strike animation in order to better match the cast, recharge and damage values.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I like the speed of the new Strike, but I like the old animation better, the way it is now it just looks like Boxing with claws. The new Slash animation (the old Strike) is fine. Swipe's new animation (basically an Energy Tank's Barrage with claws) looks fine (even though overall it doesn't seem to do as much damage as it used to), but Strike needs a better looking animation. Maybe something new instead of a revamp of another power's animation, eh?
The new animations times are great. I have a lvl 43 claws/regen stalker on virtue and he is fun to play. The only problem I have with the set now is the animation of Eviscarate and the lack of energy damage in focus and shockwave (thematically and in-game) But I suppose thats for another thread. Good job with this one devs.
Sorry, ignore this. I made the post in the wrong spot...
[ QUOTE ]
I don't feel like going through and reading the entire thread now, so here's what I want to say/suggest...
I feel a bit weak with claws when I'm using focus next to another stalker using impale. There's maybe a 5-7 damage difference between impale and focus(impale being stronger) and when that get's built up and crit's, it turns into something like a 20-30 damage difference((I may be exagerating, but it's there)). Perhaps if we brought the focus power slightly up in damage?
Then I have a seccond issue with the eviscerate power. My focus power was slotted up for three damage, and evis. had two. Each gives about 30%, right? My focus was doing 108 if I remember correctly, while evis did about 105. Now, I know I didn't have that last damage slot that would have made a difference, but that would only bring it up to around 125-130 damage... Anybody else feel like that's kinda low for such a long animation and superior damage? Yeah, it's arguable that the crit chance outside of hide may make up for it... But I just never found it outweighed the drawbacks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Impale has a longer animation, slightly more recharge, and immob and -fly as opposed to KD - which is a lot better in PvE.
Evisc only does slightly more than Focus.
Claws is the 'fast, sustained damage' set. Spines is slightly more oddball - but those are pretty minor damage differences.
I'm all for an Evisc buff, though. Focus is harder to justify.
Throwing my two cents in on claws animations and damage. I know what im about to say is not gonna sit well with most of the claws people out there but its something that has bothered me for the last almost three years of playing.
Why does claws have ranged attacks at all?
Their friggin claws and I know they can be swung really fast but to make that into ranged attacks just seems really lame and out of character with the entire idea of claws. Maybe it was used to help distance the set from Wolverine comparisons...I dont know.
I would have been a lot happier, with my claw regen that I got to level 37 scrapper before axing him, if his attacks had all been melee.
Besides the range not jiving with me I found that claws didnt have the flow, even with the new animations, that other sets have. It feels jerky. Dark and energy melee can just fly non stop with the damage (other then shadow maul and total focus). Martial arts can too. But claws has more of chop...chop..........(eviscerate).....chop kind of feel to it. It reminds me of my Axe tank.
Part of this feeling I know comes from follow up which i feel is the worst animation they have, even more then jab which I am finally able to tolerate some after leveling up my SS tank. Its clunky looking .
I know that many of the attacks in claws have pretty fast activation times but I think they could be made faster still. For supposedly having the fast attacks with low end cost ideal behind it it sure hogs the end and doesnt really deliver on the speed either.
I want to see claw attacks that that take half a second to fire off like energy punch and shadow punch to a max of say 1 and half seconds. The damage right now isnt horrible its just that for the end cost and the speed they fire at it ends up being bad.
So in conclusion: Claws with range, follow up animation and claws animations in general....BOOoooo and Claws in General Yippy!

I have a lvl 36 claws/reflex stalker, and I couldn't agree with you more. I did not, nor will I ever, take "ranged claw attacks". Effective as they may be, they're out of character and ridiculous. I would much rather have 2 more melee claw attacks.
As for the other claw powers, I like them all. My only suggestion would be to make the animation time faster for eviscerate.

2nd the motion. Leave claws as a melee set and add the 2 ranges to another new scrapper set.
Hell I love having 2 ranged knockback plus energy torrent from my Epic on my Claw/regen. It provides excellent mob control.
Now as for Stalkers, I can see both sides of the arguement, but I would still perfer Shockwave as a mob control function. Ive seen too many stalkers run due the hit and run thinking there A.S. is there only attack so they can re hide.
I guess it comes down to what you perfer.
I know how you feel - range isn't really thematic in Claws, IMO, but people are used to it now and the set isn't going to (and shouldn't) change.
No reason to tick other players off when I can just skip a few powers.
My /Regen Scrapper skipped Recon/IH/MOG for concept reasons. Is /Regen pretty gimp without them? Sure.
But I don't campaign for changes to Regen because it doesn't work the way I think it should - I just deal with it as it is.
Self-Empathy is a cool set, maybe someday I'll come up with a concept that fits it...

because they needed another melee set for Scrappers and it was down to the wire and they just rearranges the powers and animations from Spines and slapped a some new names on.
Level 50 is a journey, not a destination.

Personally I think blatantly copying Wolverine's claws is pretty cheap. I would much rather have actuall claws that extend from my fingers than wolverine's as I have no wish to make a wolverine-like character.
Speed up evis animation and up its damage. It just makes sense.
Firstly: I love claws. Ignored it before, but with the change in animations I fell in love with it. I have a 30 claws/invuln and I have 2 humble suggestions because the range powers look tacked on:
Gut(replace focus): same dmg/recharge. but instead of a short range w/kb make it a melee with -res along the lines of Slash's -def. in this way the set gains an interesting minor debuff theme not found in other sets (which are exclusively -def) and it makes sense thematically (you tear up their armor/resistance). For this power the jab animation used in Slash would make more sense, and we'd have to give it a different animation in exchange, maybe a downward left-handed slash to balance the left-right controversy
Thresher(replacing shockwave): another PBCone DoT (that way you maintain the large number of multi-target powers in this set, something i love about it) that does dmg slightly better that eviscerate. Use the flurry animation or alternatively the old Swipe animation. Add an increased crit chance to make this a 9th tier power. The animation effect would combine with eviscerate to counter the right-claw dominance of the set (more left/right/left that is thematically sound) and the increased dmg that comes from a PBCone instead of a ranged one helps to temper the low dmg of the set.
All in all I love claws as is but if we want alternatives to (?) ranged attacks in the set, what do you think about these? (And for the record i love the ranged attacks in Spines, they make sense, it's just odd in claws)
I think those are really good ideas. I wouldn't mind seeing a double uppercut attack too.

I totally agree. I ended up deleting my first claws scrapper from way back when. I was expecting, you know, CLAWS! Then those Wolverine things popped out, totally ruining my character. If Marvel sued them for anything, it should have been that.

Thirded! I've kinda gotten used to them (but would still like to see them changed) on my lvl 40 Scrapper but man was I disappointed when I first made her and they popped out. I just wanted clawed hands...
And I had to laugh when I saw those claws. My second thought (after diappointment) was "Marvels gonna pitch a fit. Everyone can make a Wolverine rippoff with those claws & regen!" Sure enough, they did.
If we can't get a way to change weapon looks maybe an IO that does?
