Official Claws Animation Thread
My suggestions to change Claws for PVE/PVP.
Swipe
-1.5sec cast change to 0.57sec cast.
-Why would someone take this over Strike other than the fact that its almost perma when u first get it.
-Add a def debuff to stack with other Claw attacks or add a extra 3-5% crit chance.
Strike
-Add a def debuff to stack with Slash or add a extra 3-5% crit chance.
Slash
-If no def debuff stacking with other Claws attacks increase the def debuff in Slash to 12% base.
-If no to above add a extra 5% chance to crit.
Spin
-Change cast time from 2.07sec to 1.67secs
-Add a extra 3-5% chance to crit.
Follow Up
-Change cast time from 1.67sec to 1.5secs
-Change base recharge time from 12secs to 10secs
-Change buff duration from 10secs to 12-15secs
-Increase base acc from 75% to 90%
-Make it a ranged attack at 40feet
-If above changes were made, remove extra crit chance from most attacks
Note:This power should self stack within reason, since there is a chance to miss. This power shouldn't out buff Buildup when stacked, but be more of a consistent buff.
Confront
-Standard
Focus
-Increase KB to 7.79
Eviscerate
-Change cast time from 2.17sec to 1.67sec
Shockwave
-Change KB to KD
-Add a 5% crit chance
I'm sure the devs can balance that.
I think since they (originally) took such pride in their physics engine (after adding AgeiaPhysx support) they should apply their physics to eviscerate and see how awesome it really is...(I know it's not possible, but the thought of backflipping twice away from your opponent to deal the most damage you can possibly do in a set, with your claws facing the wrong damn way is just stupid)
I really do think the evis animation should be changed...swipe was changed, I'm sure there were people who liked it, slash was changed and I'm sure people liked that as well but it all helped the set and made it better over all.
Eviscerate is hated! Even Castle said he hates it. Unfortunately BaB likes it and said it wont be changed. His solution is to skip it if you don't like it. Nice huh.
I still miss the old Swipe animation. I may be the only one, but I liked the series of fast, light hits.
Ah well.
I'm such a geek. Some of my heroes have journals.
As far as I can tell, Claws and KAtana are the only weapon sets that haven't got thr redraw removed yet. Just wondering if we can get an estimate as to when these last two sets might get that change?

I would have thought this obvious, but no...you can't have an estimate.
Well that was just mean.
Just wondering if they were in the works to possibly be inculded in this issue or are a ways off. I'll just keep my fingers crossed for a issue12.5 then......
BTW, the Eviscerate animation is horrible. So there!

Why not throw the guy a bone and just tell him sometime between now and December 31, 2999? Woops... sorry, I should stop snooping in those servers of yours...
You think someone with BackAlley Brawler as a name would be a nice person handing out Gumdrops?
But seriously they have stopped giving out estimates cause ppl keep whining and moaning about "You Said...." yada yada yada.... I think they are rather busy ATM.... besides I thnk BaB has a sense of humor not meaness.
Whoa! Hey, hey, there? Watch were your waving that Sapper Gun Thingamajig with the sparks and the zaps and the endurance drain... humm yeah

Oh I know they are busy, and i know whatever BaB says is all in good fun. I only asked because the changes to BS snuck in this issue, and I was curiuos if Katana or Claws might also.
Makes me wonder if Katana is proving to be as big of a PITA as Claws is.

This thread is solely for discussions regarding claw animation changes. From the Issue 7 Training Room Patch Notes:
"The Claws Power sets for both Scrappers and Stalkers have new animations for the powers Swipe and Strike. The animation for Slash has been replaced with the old Strike animation in order to better match the cast, recharge and damage values."

Aw i liked the way the animations were before. The current live slash is the best animation for the power IMO. Not sure what strike and swipe were changed to but i know swipe is useless anyways so dont really care on that. I felt strike was fine as well but we'll see what its new one is like. I do know not only was the current live slash fine, but the strike animation for it makes no sense whatsoever. Its a slash, how is stabbing a guy in the gut making sense for a power named slash?????

Can we get an estimate as to when we can get an estimate?
Since this thread has been renamed Animations, and is not about issue 7 claw changes anymore....
Can we get a new run animation for one handed weapon? I'm not sure about regular male and female body types, but huge runs exactly the same as normal when your weapon id drawn. It looks silly with your giant Ax or sword or whatever flailing about as you run. If you could just hold your weapon off to the side slightlty and keep it steadt as you run, it would be 100 time better. Just sayin....
EDIT* Just checked, it's the same for all body types. This one animation change would affect Mace, Ax, Broadsword, Stone Melee, Fire Melee, Bane Spiders, and Ice melee. One aniamtion change to improve QoL on all those sets. Seems like a reasonable change.

Nah, whats silly is huge body type running with a bow drawn. it's rather.....feminine. cant recall for sure, but i think the same animation for running is used with vet reward items like ax and staffs.

only two handed weapons have a different run animation. Dual Blades, Katana, ect. All one handed weapons do not run any different than normal when they have a weapon drawn.

Some of you people scare me.
If you're suggesting a significant change to more than 3 powers, try a different set.
And yes, some of us "old-timers" did like the old animations (strike, slash, and swipe). it's what we were used to, they didn't include draw times then, and the change wasn't that beneficial as that's when they "standardized" everything to include draw times.
So, while the animations are shorter, the character just seems less active.
Also, I've had Eviscerate for 4 years, the cast time lets my other attacks recharge and I'm one of "those people" that enjoy the double backflip.
Seriously, looking at the numbers, Claws was balanced against having Follow Up always on which needs to be fixed. (Or, at least, after I activate follow up, the damage from claws is more consistent with base damage from similar powers in other scrapper sets) I.E. Evicerate should be in the 160-190 base level 50 damage with its cast time and placement in the set as the other tier 8 powers are.
Similarly, endurance is supposed to be the "kicker" for claws, I.E. the free little buff the set gets similar to accuracy in katana and Combo's in DB, yet Dual Blades (a very similar set) consistently does more damage per attack, and more dps than claws without adding in the Combo's.
So animation wise:
Drop the draw time off all of the attacks.
Otherwise:
Bump the damage on a few attacks to be more consistent with other sets.
That's it.
At least that's my $.02 on the subject;

They did just remove the redraw times on test a while back and the DPS went thru the roof, as well as your endurance consumption. That's why it is taking them awhile, it isn't as easy as just removing the redraw times.
I for one hate Eviscerate and hope in the new Claws it can have a lesser role kinda how it does in the Night Widows set. That way I won't be completely gimping my charcters by skipping it. If it wasn't for all the wierdos that like that silly animation, BaB could change it to the Sweeping Strike animation and Claws would be the best set in the game.

"And claws doesn't need those slots. And claws gets the full benefit of those bonus from level one whereas the others wait till SOs are full slotted. And claws doesn't have to take and slot hasten or stamina or any of those pool powers that are not required at all, giving claws more slots for secondary effects or for defensive slotting." -Fanboy
-------------------------
Having an advantage at lvls 1-24 does not justify late-game inefficiencies or weaknesses. In addition, the benefits gained by Stamina are Hastern are FAR greater than the inherent benefits of Claws.
Stamina UNSLOTTED provides a 25% bonus to end recovery. 3-slotted with SOs that number soars to 50% (an equivalent option to the inherent benefits of Claws). Sure, you could avoid Stamina, but having a 50% increase to Stamina recovery is beneficial to EVERY AT (save Regen and even then some people still take it). Furthermore, HOs basically eliminate any advantages Claws might have, by freeing up even more slots (but that's a different argument).
As for Hasten, the numbers are even more impressive. A 60% increase to recharge, with only a minute of down-time is spectacular. You need approximately two Recharge SOs to match that type of return.
In summary, no one is forced to use Stamina or Hasten, but they do remove the inherent advantages of the Claws set by offering ALL OTHER MELEE SETS access to greater benefits (+recharge and +endurance rec). If there were pool powers that offered +Dmg (above 20%), additional Debuffs, or unresisted dmg features, then Claws could become more competitive within the melee peer group.
However, the truth remains that Claws main bonuses (+recharge and end efficiency) are easily replicated and outclassed, without any external offering (power pools) able to bring Claws up to its peers in dmg, utility, or debuffs. Furthermore, slotting SOs favors Dmg and Acc, while Recharge and Stamina are relegated in importance (both PvE and PvP).
My arguments are not to homogenize Claws, it's to simply illustrate why it is doomed to mediocrity. Hey, a lot of cars are sold each year that look nice, but have average performance. Some people think those buyers are suckers, but most of the suckers are pleased with their purchase. In the end, the press and car magazines can't change the auto industry or the consumers, but the media has an obligation to point out a substandard offering.
Cheers,
SUN

I'm getting confused here.
You are comparing claws without adds to the other sets with adds and saying claws loses out and needs improvement?
What happens when you add those same improvements to claws? Do claws lose out then?
I have 2 scrappers and 2 stalkers who are claws and I am quite satisfied with them. Maybe it's only the fact that my toons are almost always scragging the foes as a pair; but I also have a MA scrapper and a MA stalker who seem to do quite well without those adds, thank you (especially solo).
I admit I get quite busy if there's a mess of mobs; but my 'pairs' usually defeat '+2's all day and take out +2 Bosses for lunch.
Don't ask what I can do when my stalkers are hidden and have that pesky elite boss or AV staring my team down. More than once; my team has 'complained' I didn't give them a chance to gather more dept.
What do my stalkers do with their 'extra' slots? Put them into the concealment pool. Having conceal paired with the hide seems to get them anywhere they want. Even EBs can be assassinated.
As for my scrappers, that 'extra' also is for my defensive secondaries. Sorry, but i don't think claws lose out against the other sets. the slots the other sets MUST use to equal what claws does automatically are slots the claw sets can use to greater benefit.
