Official Claws Animation Thread

It may seem off topic, but bear with me. I think suppression is worse now with the new changes.
I love the changes to the claws attacks but the constant stream of attacking guarantees that I never go anywhere in PvP. Can we lose travel power suppression now? Its worse now than ever and sets based on more, faster attacks are penalized more heavily than those based on burst damage

10 points for attempting to make this NOT a threadjack, -2billion points in that it still IS a threadjack. Slot up swift and quit trying to use your travel powers in combat.

Yeah, sorry. I don't know how to express it without jacking the thread but I think its now a bigger problem for claws because they are at their best when they have a solid attack chain now. I was able to bear with it when I basically had a two power attack chain (focus+eviscerate) in pvp. Now, I have to move like molasses constantly.
And just because I don't use travel powers when I attack doesn't mean that the blaster/corrupter I'm trying to catch won't.
get black scorpions web nade to do -jump/-fly/-speed on them
(lol if you've read the patron powers threads you know how funny that is)
but seriously, be EM if you want to do a lot of dmg with 2 attacks
took my lv 18 claws/regen to test and i like the new animations for the 2nd and 3rd attacks (only ones i have that got changed), but i dont have room in my build to keep the 3rd attack :/
If you are constantly suppressed because the animations are so short, then you are constantly able to hit the enemy. Why do you need to travel so fast then, if the enemy you are attacking and getting suppressed from all the time is always in arm's reach? Or, perhaps, I don't know, this is just my simple logic here speaking, but if Eviscerate + Focus are enough for you in PVP, perhaps you could continue to use only Eviscerate + Focus in PVP? Nobody forces you to use the tiny attacks.
Me, I love not bothering to slot Rcg or Rdx in any attacks except 2 Rcg in Follow Up, and being able to keep constantly attacking even when Hasten is down. I can't actually play my Claws Scrapper on Live right now. I love stabbing.

Kudos on the new animations! Still trying it out but I hope this makes the set faster, making up for the +5% acc boost we never got for drawing a weapon, though it is in the anims.
Now, you really really have to get rid of the root effect for SR/Practiced Brawler!

I have to say I'm enjoying the revamped claws slash and swipe. I'm having a blast. I just don't know what to take now from claws, though, due to the fact that there are a bunch of possible attack combos.

Foot in mouth nothing. I'm up to the knee on this one.
Be well, people of CoH.
I love the new animations, claws are useful now! With the new costume opitions I can have the were-wolf I always wanted
Just poking my nose in here to say I love the new animations for Claws. Swipe is great, though probably still not a power I would take on a live build, and while the new Strike animation is just a reused Jab/Boxing/Radiant Strike animation, it feels really brutal with Claws.
Good job on this one Devs and folks like Stupid_Fanboy who've been pushing for this for a long time. Seems like Claws is finally going to work the way it was intended to.

skipping strike because it now looks like the Boxing punch
[/ QUOTE ]
PLease, Please, PLease don't change Strike to the Boxing animation!!!! It has to be the worst looking attack in the game IMO. I love the change to slash, and it would be so kewl to have a left right thing going but the current Boxing animation of strike is terrible.

I'll play devil's advocate and nitpick the changes a bit. The new swipe is a step in the right direction in terms of cast time. Same goes for that actual cast animation. I saw one suggestion to use both versions of the old strike (right strike then left strike) which I think would be good. Another possible suggestion is mirroring the Focus animation and using those.
The new strike is fine in terms of cast time and animation.
My only real nitpick is for swipe and strike is this: post attack pose. If you don't know what I'm talking about then attack with swipe or strike. Don't chain another attack after it. The post-attack pose is that for brawl. Now try it with Slash (new or old) or any other Claws attack. You'll see what I mean.
All in all, it's still a great job to fix the Claws set. Kudos to the devs and forum-goers that made it happen. Keep it up!

While I understand that puncturing someone with the claws is a way to harm them you cannot deny that the set has gone from 'rawr, gonna slice you up' to '[/i]meyow, gonna poke you to death[/i]'
Sweeping strikes which show the character slicing and dicing is what the claws set should be about, not standing there shadow boxing with fists held close to your chest with quick short jabs. If you have claws then you should use them to their full potential, not pussyfoot around slowly jabbing at someone.
I was really hoping for some creative animations (like a jump and stab in the air to the head for strike, thus making it more.. "strike"ish) but I'm glad that claws got the attention it needed. I can't complain at all but I still wish our attacks looked a little bit more stylish like MA or Katana.
Thank you for helping out claws! I'm definetly taking swipe now.
My one and only suggestion for the changes...
Switch the animations for Swipe and Strike. That is it.

I really like the changes. Now I have to pick up Slash. Now to figure out what to drop in it's place...
The faster animation makes a beginning game attack chain possible and increases the dps. This is excellent news for those of us that took Strike and then waited for Follow Up..
After testing it a bit I'm really liking my chain a lot better. I don't have to worry about downtime between attacks and feel just more effective overall.
Thanks _Castle_ for bringing this about!

"Gonna have to disagree with you there Bob". (Office Space).
I rather think if someone with 6" claws stabbed someone IN THE HEART or the throat or the kidneys they'd be, well, kinda dead pretty fast.
See "Faust" (the adult comic, and the atrocious live action movie) for examples of "real world" action with claws. Stabbing and slashing is kind of the point. Never mind ol Wolvy.
I'd actually call it more like using them to their full potential.
Slashing looks cool, but unless you're, say, Disemboweling (and that's another powerset, isn't it?) or Eviscerating ... well, let's just say, I can't see taking the new Swipe because I absolutely find that animation (old and new) to be unappealing. Now the old animation for that screams "I bat you to death" to me. So I didn't ever take it.
I mean, ooh, I'm sure you'll bleed to death from that arm wound... eventually... whearas I stab you in the heart, you die pretty quickly.
Where I'm a little disappointed at the look of the new Strike, but that's only because I have an SS brute and, well, it's Jab.
But I'll take the faster activation for $100 please, Alex, and I'll get used to the animation.
As someone has mentioned, I've seen more than a few of the ol' Canucklehead with his fist against someone else's chest... and then they fall over because that's what happens when you STAB THEM IN THE HEART. (Sorry. Getting a little too emphatic here).

Trying to argue the real-world logic of attacking someone with claws strapped to your hands makes about as much sense as "arresting" someone with a sword or an axe... ah well.

Here's my take on the matter. Yesterday I copied over a level 12 claws/invuln and respec'd him into every attack I could get and stripped all enhancements out of the attacks.
I was extremely impressed with the new animations for claws. The barrage animation for the first tier attack was attractive and deadly looking, the same can be said of each of the first 3 attacks. With swipe, strike, slash and spin I found myself almost constantly attacking. I took myself to steel canyon and started picking on some level 12 outcasts. I continued street hunting like this for about 2 hours and stuck to even level foes only to get some halfways decent herostats data.
Where I noticed the sustained dps most was against bosses, it was very satisfying to see their health bars drain like there was a leak on the left end. No big hits, just a constant quick drain on them. It worked very well.
The new endurance cost of spin was very nice. If I was running a less end intensive secondary I would consider running without stamina, over the course of two hours I never once had to rest for endurance. My temporary invul was slotted 2 resist/2 end reduction dual origins.
According to herostats my accuracy percentages for only even cons averaged 70-73 percent for all attacks, seemingly normal for unslotted. I noticed no odd bugs or irregularities regarding the new claws animations and recalibration.
All that being said, I really want to play a claws scrapper regularly again, but will wait until it becomes a little less FOTM. Sorry that it's all anecdotal evidence, but that's my experience with "The New Claws".
EDIT: note that I did take follow up, but did not use it in my attack chain in order to test unbuffed accuracy. I know no one else cares, but i'm paranoid about acc.
Bingo.

The set needs to have both. It needs to have stabbing/thrusting animations, and it needs to have swiping/slashing animations. This would be both realistic and in keeping with claws-wielding characters from the comic books.
Test is down, but my recollection is that the current Swipe, while you could see it as two punches, could also be two quick "swipes" ... there is an arc to the movement, not a straight punch.
I still think that a revamp of the old Swipe animation without the uppercut at the end would be great for any number of power choices. Random musing: make Strike the first tier "fast" power, and Swipe the second tier power with a speeded-up version of the old animation at appropriately higher damage. Keeping Slash the same as it is now, that would give you three good attacks to chain from Level 4 on.
Of course, I'd love to see brand new animations. But I imagine every time they create brand new animations, it means time and effort taking away from creating new content and/or fixing more serious, less stylistic issues. Of course they're going to recycle current animations.
For two years, people have complained loudly that Claws was a gimped powerset. It was only popular because so many people were motivated by one of the world's most popular comic book characters. Everyone recognized that Claws was at a serious disadvantage compared to other Scrapper primaries. The Devs heard this and finally fixed it. They made it look good without devoting resources that were better spent elsewhere. Simply put, Claws is better than it was.
And I continue to say, until the ranged Focus and Shockwave stuff goes away, it's a little hard for me to take complaints about style too seriously. (having said that, I don't take Shockwave on purely stylistic grounds!)
Just tried the new animations on my lvl33 Claws/Regen - I've decided not to delete him when I7 goes live.
The new animations fit together like a puzzle, unlike the old ones where it felt very clunky. I'm highly considering dropping Eviscerate as the animation time will definitely hurt my DPS and very rarely hit more than one or two mobs with it anyway. Instead I'll be taking Swipe.
To the animators, I say "Good job".
"Old" swipe animation put it into Eviscerate. I do know the animation is slightly longer. If the DPS was kept the same, then it may do enough damage burst damage to be an attactive power agian as an opener/finisher over spin and shockwave.
After cranking my difficulty up to Rugged, I was somewhere between "coasting" and "grinning" my way through missions.
The animation changes are excellent, and that jab animation gives the set the attitude that it never quite achieved before. I am indeed very pleased.
However, there seems to be a slight lag between the Eviscerate & Focus animations completing and their damage being taken. I'm not sure if this is because of the test server's load and the unreliability of the build or what, but there is latency there.

As promised, further testing with my 45 (now 46 on live ) Claws/SR:
Right now on live I use Focus, Strike, Follow Up, Eviscerate as an attack chain. Eviscerate's slotted as 1 Acc/3 Dmg/1 Rchg/1 End, Follow Up's slotted as 1 Acc/2 Dmg/1 ToHit/1 Rchg/1 End, and Focus and Strike are slotted as 1 Acc/3 Dmg/2 Rchg. I decided to try a "five attack" chain of Strike, Slash, Focus, Follow Up, Eviscerate, slotting every power as 1 Acc/3 Dmg/1 Rchg/1 End.
Well, I walked into a Carnie mission (on Rugged) and what did I find but that Eviscerate basically never got used. The four single target powers make for a devastatingly fast attack chain on their own, with Focus and Slash being sufficient on their own to drop +1 minions. I couldn't get my End below 80% or so, which was nice as it gave me the opportunity to run Focused Accuracy -- something I don't normally run except under Conserve Power or Elude. I found similar results when swapping Strike for Swipe, although my damage output felt a smidge lower, especially against +2s.
The improved critical of Eviscerate and barely higher damage than Focus don't make it very attractive now compared to the cheaper and faster single target powers. I suppose if you wanted to do an AE build it'd be useful, but for a lot of characters, it seems very superfluous, just like Spin. Spin's actually arguably more useful because it's PBAE and not Cone.
So, while I do love how truly awesome the low end of Claws is, the high end powers are pretty uncool except for specific builds. Contrast this with, say, Katana, where the top two powers are truly the capstones of the set.
