Did anyone notice the building with the arboretum in Atlas Park?
My friend @Malohin just noticed it last week.
Look for a domed building in AP, with glass panels in the dome. You can see in, there's trees and tables and chairs. Looks like a lovely spot.
Look on the bottom of the building for the stairs icon on a door. Click that, and *poof* you're in that arboretum.
You can see out the glass, and are entirely enclosed. It's very cool and has been there in AP since it got the refresh. -
This sounds great, and is just another amazing thing Arcanaville has done for us. Thank you, Arcanaville!
I will have to be at work, so some other hero will have to stand in for me. Give 'em hell.
I hope someone can record this, with fraps and/or demorecord so we can all see it later! -
I bought the black plastic plate frames off eBay, in a lot of a hundred.
The white lettering is cut out of adhesive vinyl, the same thing they make signs and lettering for the outsides of cars with. I found the logos on the 'net, and use Illustrator to turn them into vectors. Illustrator did the fonts trivially, as well.
Once I had vectors, I went to TechShop and cut them on the vinyl cutter. If you're not a TechShop member, anyplace that makes signs can cut them, too.
The vinyl cutter is pretty quick - five, ten minutes - but it took me a couple of hours to get all the parts of the vinyl I didn't want off the backing. Lettering is hard that way, with lots of little detailed shapes. Once that was done, they stuck right down.
The scaling between Illustrator and the vinyl cutter wasn't 100% accurate, so some of the text was too long, and things didn't quite fit. A second try will fix that.
If I can ever get back in there and do it. I've been buried at the office. I haven't even managed to finish mine, much less consider making some for other people.A sign shop can do the work, but it might be expensive for their artist's time.

I live in a place with all sorts of people moving in, and you can often tell it from the license plate frame on their car. Any Pittsburgh plate frame on a California plate tells you something.
I thought I'd make license plate frames for the car from a car dealer in Paragon. Few would notice, fewer would get the joke, but for those few, it's all good.
For years, I have had this idea. I finally ordered the parts on August 29th. What happened the next day? Doh!
I decided the joke was just as good even if the game went away, and made some prototypes. I've been slammed at work so haven't gotten in to finish them - I've been playing CoH instead - and only have these to show:
I thought I'd share them while I still could.
Where are the different brands of car dealers located in Paragon? -
95!
Numbers Remaining:

Unless the work AV devours me, I'll be there.

*pounces Gothica* Hi! =)
I understand the depression. I've been on various meds for fifteen years. It's hard, and each day can be a struggle.
I understand how much it can mean to log in to CoH and let the goofy chatter from a couple of the channels wash over you and gently remind that yes, there is other things, and yes, there can be hope in the world, and gosh, maybe all these people aren't so bad.
The messages from Zwillinger and Positron yesterday hit me hard, and I read the worst into them. I was lucky enough to be reading the Titan forums at the right time and to have someone get out a rolled up newspaper and smack us into sense again. (go this thread: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index....ic,5220.0.html and look for Victoria Victrix posts.)
NCSoft has had to respond to us, and we've gotten through to them. There's professional people working on it. There's progress being made.
Keep up the good fight, and know that you're not alone. -

What times on the weekends, Witty?
I'd love to bring Machinst, who hasn't been out playing much lately. As my main on Champion, I've wanted to do these for... what, five years?
Now's the moment! If I'm not busy. But I may be busy. So, need to know when. -
What a completely awesome thread!
Thank you for sharing this with us Arcanaville! I've got access to a higher-res printer, and may have to try this.
Things to take away:
1: Arcanaville is amazing and awesome.
2: Demorecord, demorecord, demorecord!
3: Save your characters with the Sentinel+ tool so you can edit them into demorecords if you have to.
4: Arcanaville is amazing and awesome! -
Quote:Eh, it's Silicon Valley. Half the people here work, or have worked for a startup. There may be risk, but the reward is often worth the risk. I know no one in this area who looks at a time at a failed startup as a black mark on a resume.Honestly, it would probably be a fairly risky venture for the people who've just been let go to take on a position in a start up venture. Even if NCSoft agrees and even if they can raise enough capital to keep the game going, a large number of start ups of any kind fail. I would not fault any Dev who chose not to return because of finding some other more secure position in the meantime.
Some of the devs will find other jobs. Some will want more stability and not be interested in a startup. Others will jump at the chance to keep doing the work they love on the project they've worked so hard on.
Even if none of the original devs come - and I think that's not gonna happen - then others will get it moving again. I'm sure that can be done, and I'm sure there are people who'd take the chance. -

The owner of City of Heroes, that superhero MMO, announced last Friday that they will be shutting it down.
City of Heroes is a active game, with a vibrant and involved community. The last we heard, it's also a profitable MMO with a regular net income.
I've been playing City of Heroes since September of 2004. In that eight years I've spent many hours doing all sorts of positive things in the virtual world. I've also met some wonderful and caring people in their community.
As a community, we're shocked at this sudden announcement, and sick about the results. We'll lose not only the game, but the way in which we know and talk to one another.
If there is anything you, or Valve can do to change the fate of City of Heroes, there's a hundred thousand players out there who'd be immensely relieved.
I know that many of us would be thrilled to see Valve as the publisher. City of Heroes would be in good hands with Valve, and Valve would gain a regular income source and thousands of supportive new customers.
Even if Valve, as a company, can't do anything, perhaps you could blog or tweet about this. A comment supporting the community would mean a lot.
I thought you would want to know, and hope that you can see the depth of feeling created by this decision from the number and sincerity of the messages you get.
Thank you for all you have done - I'm a loyal Steam user - and for anything you can do.
Sincerely,

Quote:Interesting, because every site i've seen with people doing the same poses wound up ending with "Ow, my spine, my spine!" comments. Now I wish I could remember that site that had people busting some of the so-called impossible poses featured on escher girls. They even had an average build dude doing the 'impossible' bust and butt pose seemingly without much effort (in that it didn't seem to even disrupt his stride while walking).
Penny's a world-shaking psychic. She should keep her spine. There's no reason she has to twist enough to show both boobs and both butt cheeks to stab something with her blade.
My comments haven't been about the amount of skin she's showing; she's average for the game and arguably less naked than Sister Psyche's green straps and gauze. But the pose she's in doesn't convey anything positive at all, and adds nothing to the action of the scene.
Another poster pointed out the awful pose Sister Psyche was in in one of the SSA load screens. They're right, it was bad. I'd missed that one. -
I think CoH can definitely do better than this.
Why should they resort to T&A to get people to look at it when better-drawn truly dynamic art will always be superior without demeaning women everywhere?
'Cause reducing women to body parts for titillation is demeaning, regardless if you personally enjoyed it.
Just because the comic book industry does this all the time does not mean CoH should as well. Be better than that!
It's also bad for the characters; Why would Penelope Yin ever leap into the air to try and smack someone when she can crush his mind from the ground? Why would she ever have that idiotic look on her face while doing it? -
I agree, the game is really fiddly on the trackpad.
I just played a bunch last night with an Apple Magic Mouse that I had in my bag. Worked fine.
On other laptops, I've used whatever USB mouse was to hand, and that works fine on the Mac, too.
But the Magic Mouse is bluetooth, and shiny. -
Like many others, I think this is too much money for a costume toggle. They're all too expensive, and I won't be buying them.
I have paid more than this for costume codes on eBay, but the goal there was to have something interesting and unique.
These are not "limited" in any way - just like the Halloween badges, they'll be back next year. That's transparently manipulative marketing, and it makes people unhappy. Stop it.
I thought I'd say something here so Ghost Falcon and the rest of marketing can see it, but I'll also be voting with my dollars - they don't get my money for these.
Like someone else said, at $1 I might buy a lot of them. At $2, I might pick up a few. Any higher, no thanks.
How can costume sets, which are more flexible and I get to choose what is what be cheaper? I think they're a touch high, and I find them worth more than the costume toggles.
I hope this information helps Paragon Studios adjust their pricing to something more reasonable. I am sure they wanted to start high and go down - no one likes increases. -
It's been ages since I've made a Tanker Tuesday, but I'll try to make this one. I think I logged off at the IP gate in KR...
I can lead a team if there's not enough, although my tank isn't too high a level.
See y'all there! -

A few weeks back, I asked about getting my second video card working - GeForce 7900s, in proper SLI with a matched pair.
je_saist replied with this link to the detailed answer about trying SLI.
I couldn't get that option to do anything at all for me. The NVIDIA drivers said no SLI was enabled and wouldn't show any change in frame rate.
I didn't dig in to why; I replaced the system. A GTX470 with a quad core I5 is much perkier.
If CoH gets SLI sorted, I'll pick up a second 470. Or if they get 3d working. -
Positron mentioned at the Baycon panel that there is a possibility they'll do some more of the free server transfers around when GR goes live. You might want to wait to see if that happens. If so, yay, server move with no cost. If not, you can always spend the money then.
I've played on several servers, and there's good people on all of them. -
Quote:I think they were trying to keep the list to one slide. There's a ton of stuff that could be there.Supergroup Bases and Empowerment Stations apparently don't count
A friend of mine immediately said, "What about the No-XP button? That's the best feature they've added." He's dead serious too. He always hated out leveling things, and now he doesn't have to worry about it. Someone says, "Want to do a TF?" and he can go have a great time and play the game without worrying his contacts will snub him.
The panel thought Mission Architect, the Invention System, and Ororborus were the best parts... I would have put Global Chat up there as "best" myself. It lets me talk to people no matter where I'm playing.
What else did they forget? -
Quote:That makes sense; PAX East was before the I17 release, and that would all have been less well known. Showing off Dual Pistols when they've already been the FOTM made it pretty clear these weren't new slides. It sounds - and looks - like the presentation was almost identical to the PAX East one - although, the info on the Ghouls being the result of experiments is new.
I hadn't seen a lot of it, or any of the stuff on the Incarnates, though, which was interesting. -
I think they missed an opportunity with the table at the con too. Their time is limited, and they can only do so much, though. The panel was well done and interesting and I'm glad I went. It was even worth missing the regular Saturday Kitty Pounce Force for.
I hadn't looked at the Going Rogue website in a while and didn't realize how much of that information - most of the villain groups, for instance - was already there. The information on the Incarnates was new to me, as well.
No matter what the development team does, someone will complain about it. Ignore them, or politely ask them to keep their muttering elsewhere. -
Grats on the 50's Megami! I'm sure I've played with at least one of them... if not two or three. Lowbies are fun too!
I have a couple of characters I started on one server, then duplicated on another. They look the same, they have the same powersets. I get confused if I switch from one who's 47 to one who's 27, though... a bunch of the powers go away!
As much as I enjoy these characters, I'd advise against keeping identical characters on different servers. It's maddening.
