Is anyone getting use out of their 2nd GPU?

I just recently installed a gtx 470 and dropped my gtx 260 into my second slot. I have the beta 256 drivers from Nvidia and no matter what configuration I set it up as, the EVGA precision says my GPU2 Usage % is 0. It also says I am using 490 MB of GPU2 memory, but where is it going if GPU usage2 is 0%? If you have a similar config and see a definite performance boost, or see it working through monitoring, please let me know, because I am at a loss.

Officially, SLI/Crossifre is not supported in this game. I believe there was a flag you could add to your shortcut's target line during one of the test cycles that enabled SLI, but I'm unsure whether that ever made it to live.

Edit: I also don't recall what levels of performance gain those that attempted to use it received.

I'm not actually in SLI, just have the second card set to physx. I know it doesn't support anything but the Aegia card, but I though my card should be doing something, since it is reading that memory is being used.

CoH PhysX is the old Aegia PhysX which is NOT the current Nvidia PhysX. So the ONLY way to have a PhysX card help you would be to have one of the old Aegia cards. Nvidia cards don't support the old PhysX so they do you no good in CoH as such. If you were playing a game that used the Nvidia PhysX, then that second card would get utilised. In CoH, it won't.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

Coll. Thanks for the replies.

SLI is enabled but unsupported for CoH. Those using it have said they've gained 7-10 fps (which, on top of frame rates of 30, is significant). However, I thought Nvidia SLI required both GPUs to be the same, no?

ATI Crossfire definitely allows the two GPUs to be different models, but Crossfire is not available at all for CoH... yet.

I was under the impression both SLI and Crossfire required the GPUs to be identical. But I've never tried to run either one so...

Until I start seeing real-world game benchmarks showing a 50-75% gains in FPS, I will have to consider SLI/Crossfire to be not worth the money.

A few weeks back, I asked about getting my second video card working - GeForce 7900s, in proper SLI with a matched pair.

je_saist replied with this link to the detailed answer about trying SLI.

I couldn't get that option to do anything at all for me. The NVIDIA drivers said no SLI was enabled and wouldn't show any change in frame rate.

I didn't dig in to why; I replaced the system. A GTX470 with a quad core I5 is much perkier.

If CoH gets SLI sorted, I'll pick up a second 470. Or if they get 3d working.

SLI : yes:

SLI will actually throw a hissy fit if you have two identical chip cards, but from different vendors. So if you couple and EVGA with a BFG, or a Galaxy with a Sparkle, it generally won't work.

There are driver hacks out there that get around the SLI limitations of vendor lock-in, but by and large these hacks generate more rendering and stability issues than they do improve performance.

Crossfire : no

AMD has a list of supported card models here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/content/im...ombo_chart.jpg

Now, I do need to tell you... although that chart says you can crossfire certain cards without an internal connector...

YOU NEED THE INTERNAL CONNECTOR

Thing is, I had a couple of HD 4650's, bought mostly because they were cheap, and I wanted to test out Crossfire against the Intel D975XBX motherboard I was sent for Mepisguides. In real-life testing, the lack of an internal connector meant the cards had to use the PCIE bus to transfer data... and the result was an on-benchmark performance acceleration, but with a slow, jittering, and stuttering display.

So, if you do look at Multi-GPU, make sure you look at cards with the internal connector.

There are some various hacks that have been posted around the forum to "force" SLI rendering with the Live engine. As of right now, these hacks don't get anywhere near the performance boost that the Test Server's testing mode does.

Rumor has it that the Tele has another command line trigger for experimental Crossfire support. However, confirming this rumor probably would require having to sit through the full season of Lord Recluse and the Wrestler, and it's sequel, Lord Recluse and the Professor.

Has anyone asked The Television whether this is true?

Hm, ok so Crossfire does have some limits I see. Mainly that the cards have to be of the same basic series like say 5800. But provided the first two digits match, any combo is supposedly possible. Interesting to know. Although with no Crossfire support in game as yet, it's also perfectly useless for CoH.

No way. I try to keep me developer harassment localized to Castle and BAB.
