Guide to Upcoming Epic Archetypes (I6)

You should know that there are not that much things confirmed about the upcoming Epic Archetypes, other than their names. Most things you'll hear are pure speculation. Only believe things that have official proof. Also, the devs decided that they're not going to use the lvl 50 rule to unlock an Epic AT anymore. What the alternate way hasn't been confirmed yet.

I'm not sure anyone else would bother explaining it as thoroughly as I, so here it goes, hopefully answering all your questions.

So far, the upcoming Epic ATs that are upcoming are:

I. Coralax - You can read about them in the CoV enemies profiles (on their main website.) Their story has debuted in CoV in the form of the Coralax-Hybrids enemies, the Cult of the Shapers Story Arc from Diviner Maros in Sharkhead Isle, and the Temple of Waters Strike Force in Sharkhead Isle. Nothing much has been said about it. So far, this is the most introduced upcoming Epic AT. They're most likely going to have lots of water/undersea powers.

Note: They also may have made a debut in CoH in the form of a mission/story arc in Striga Isle where there are talks of coral and founds of a fish-man (which, in speculation, is assumed to be the Virtea.)

Note: They're gonna make another debut in I7, as some Archetypes will be able to summon Coralax-Hybrids and Coral Gaurdians as pets, and correspondingly enough, Captain Mako's set is named Leviathan Mastery. The knowledge of these powers supposedly comes from the Coralax themselves.

II. Blood of the Black Stream - This Epic AT made it's debut on CoV as well in a story arc from Mr. Bocor. It's mentioned briefly, but that's all. The story arc is about getting a book, which turns out to be a journal of a man named Padre Henri, who seems to may have had ties with the BotBS. This, among other hints, have solely concluded that the BotBS are probably of Egyptian origin. As may have the Hellions involved in the Oil Spill, but that's a different story. The mission is easy to get, so I won't spoil anything.

Also, Statesman has confirmed in a live interview that they will be Shapeshifters.

Note: There was a mention of the Black Stream being the Nile River. Manticore (the dev) was quite pleased when someone finally figured it out. Wether or not the find was true or false remains unanswered.

III. Avilans - This concept has been on-demand for a long time due to the fact that it will have wings. These avian beings, supposedly, have debuted in CoH through a mission where you find weird bones that are hollow like a bird's. Nothing much has been oficially revealed other than that they are already designed on paper, and are just waiting for the right time to implement, according to Statesman.

IV. Incarnates - This is a weird concept because it hasn't been decided yet wether or not it'll be an Epic Archetype. It might be a bit confusing, but let me just show examples. Statesman is a Tanker Incarnate, and Lord Recluse is a Mastermind Incarnate. What does that show you? Well, that they're hybrids. But according to the devs, they're not sure what to do with it yet. There are official news about it all throughout CoX, but I can't list em all.

And don't forget, there has been no official word yet about wether or not which ones will only be for villains, for heroes or for both. Also, a word from Posi states that they have big plans for the upcoming Epic ATs in the upcoming issues. This was in an I7 interview. I may be using what he said to my advantage, but I think he means I8 and so on.

Here's what Positron said in the interview:
(Just incase nobody has read it yet)

Question: "In CoH, the player can choose the epic characters Peacebringer and Warshade. Are any opposite epic characters for CoV planned?"

Answer: "Not for Issue 7, but future updates will have more Epic Archetypes for both Heroes and Villains. Epic Archetypes add a lot to the game, so we don't want to just slap on some powers together and call it an EAT. We have big, big plans for Epic Archetypes in upcoming issues."

Good info...thanks for the post. This is perfect for idiots like myself who never get what they're looking for out of the search function.

It's probably too much to hope for that the Incarnate to be a hybrid that's available to an existing character via a kind of epic mission thread and/or badge collection. It doesn't really fit the Statesman origin story anyway...unless he was a already low level tanker when he drank that magic water!

How about listing a few expamples ?
Maybe a top 3,5, or 10 ?

My best guess would be Blood of the Black Stream and Corolax for COV, Avians for COH, and Incarnates for BOTH.

Giving COV BOTBS and Corolax fits not only for thematic reasons but it gives them two Epic ATs to match p to COH's two Epic AT's.

Giving COH the Avians appeases teh hordes that refuse to partake in the joy of COV a new toy to play with and has basically been on the COH drawing boards sonce almost day 1.

Incarnates simply HAVE to belong to both games, and I suspect will become the 50+ content, if we ever get any.

Personally, I think incarnates should basically receive 10th and 11th tier powers from their primary and secondary sets to choose from.

Disclaimer: You're reading pure speculation.

The Coralax - It's obvious they hate humankind. But it has been stated that not all Coralax took drastic measures to seek vengeance against humans. Also, you have to remember that the Shapers were the first people made by their goddess, Merulina. Who knows what else she created. I highly doubt the Coralax EAT will have only one option to choose from.

P.S. I don't consider the Kheldian EAT two seperate EATs. Sure, they give you both different experiences, but they're from one concept. IMO, having more than one set to choose from in one EAT concept should just be considered one.

The Blood of the Black Stream - They sound pretty bad (as in bad villainous), or, rather, the whole thing with the Oil Spill was pretty bad. Wether they should or should not be in whichever side is still up for debate IMO, because we don't have enough information about them. For all we know, they could turn out to be for both.

The Avilans - This is a concept, as I have stated, that is highly on-demand. Everyone wants wings. Everyone. I have a strong feeling about this concept being available for both sides, with wide variations of Light vs Dark.

The Incarnate - Like the BotBS, we don't have enough information. We haven't been given that much information. Last we heard, the devs aren't sure what to do with it yet. So for this one, not sure.

As others would say, "search-fu", lol.

They're mentioned in the comics, novel, and there are tidbits of comments from the devs from last year. I'm too lazy to go get 'em but I'm sure you can find it using the search engine on this forum. I would like to say I'm biased on all the Epic ATs, but sadly, I barely have any interest in the Incarnate. Mainly because of (a) how it's represented as a hybrid (b) it still has not yet been decided what it's going to be. The concept is pretty bland. But I'll reserve my complete judgment until after more specifics has been announced about them, or until we completely know of them.

Like my example earlier with the Coralax, we shouldn't limit ourselves to the BotBS, Coralax, and Avilans to have just one option. Just like how the Kheldian is one concept with 2 options, the other EATs just very well could have 2 or more other options/sets to choose from.

Seems a good place to toss some random speculation in. Your nice summary of the data we have on blood of the black stream got me thinking.

Its assumed to be an egyptian themed shifting EAT. With a nod from Manticore recognizing that the black stream is another name for the Nile river. It is also a negatively viewed EAT from the hero perspective. Ie the person who had their hero added to the CC game and the reference to the BOTBS that was added to their background. Another reference to Egypt by the way.

I suspect the EAT is likely associated with Set and crocodiles or snakes. It doesn't seem to large a leap to a type of werecrocodile.

Edit: fixed annoying typo.

Nice speculation.

Although I, myself, have yet to come up with an image because it's all so random, haha. Well, that, and I never actually thought of it that way.

But your idea got me thinking.

Egyptians are known for their animal references, from people, to creatures, to gods themselves. I think along with the theme of shapeshifting, you might have a good concept that the devs may use for the BotBS. If this turns out to be so, then we will be able to (or have the option to) shapeshift into animal forms, or, animal-esque at least.

Exactly the animal headed gods, man headed animals are images you see in Egyptian art. So a shifter that can do animal or animal part shifting would be very appropriate to the mythology. And we do know that they like to take mythology and twist it slightly. We get the myths but they aren't what we think they are.

It's an idea for how the EAT might be anyway. Without more information from the devs its just wild speculation though.

Yeah, but it's a good idea though. If anything, I would think one of the set options would include animal shapeshifting only.

Where are you people getting all this horribly innacurate information? States is, and always has been a Tanker Incarnate. Even with the fact that he used to command a band of theives, that doesn't make him a Mastermind, there's a huge difference. Do his powers revolve around him being able to summon these thieves, and get them to do his bidding? No, so not a mastermind. His powers focus on being COMPLETELY immortal, and nigh-indestructable, and his having super-strength. IE - Inv/SS Tanker Incarnate. I can see where it could be confused that he could be a scrapper, considering the damage output he seems to have - even though SS is not available to Scrappers, since many of the signatures have powers not available to their ATs, but he is not, he is assuredly a tanker. This has been confirmed over, and over again. In fact, though there's less plausable evidence to support it (only the CoH CCG, to my knowledge) so is, in fact, Positron - he's merely a Rad/Rad tanker - which is bad-[censored].

No, I meant that he was KIND OF a mastermind BEFORE he drank from the well of the furies. Afterwords he became a Tanker Incarnate.

Ok...even still, he wasn't even KIND of a mastermind. He was a tanker. He was still Inv/SS before drinking from the well. I have a tanker that's the leader of a SG, is he 'kind of' a mastermind, because he's got people he can order around?

i don't think the devs do either, but they had to be made into 2 separate ATs because they have different inherent powers (warshades get different bonuses from their link than peacebringers do). i believe there is a coding issue in that all powersets from an AT have to use the same inherent.

I'm completely excited about this. I'm not sure about the Avilans, though I'm sure they'll most likely have wing customization (how drastic is out of my knowledge), but as for the Coralax, unless the devs make a complete spin on what they are, they're going to have a seperate costume set since they're coral people. I really can't wait, and I really don't care if the Coralax don't get any access to upcoming prestige items or new costume sets, as long as they get their own unique coral/underwater costumes.

Oh I never said the devs didn't, I was just talking about how some people consider the Kheldian to be two seperate Epic ATs, therfore, automatically assuming that the Coralax and the BotBS will be released at the same time to balance out the whole PB/WS vs Coralax/BotBS. It's more than likely that the new upcoming sets too will feature 2 if not more variations of that single Epic AT to choose from. Just like the Peacebring and the Warshade for the Kheldian. We already know a likely candidate for the Coralax, and that is the Shaper. The first-made Coralax who are priests of their people.

Well, I can't really explain much because I don't remember much from when it was discussed, but there are a few posts in this forum (old though, you may find it through search) about the Incarnate concept. It's also in the Web of Arachnos novel, you can pick it up at your local bookstores (haha, what an Ad) and in the CoX comics.

Anyway, here's an example:
disclaimer: I may get the more detailed info wrong, but I'm just trying to get to the jist of the concept.

Statesman was a Tanker, he drank from what I believe is "The Well of Furies" and there, he was granted god-like powers. From then on he became an Incarnate Tanker.

Think about it. What is Lord Recluse? A mastermind. But is he a complete weakling without his arachnos soldiers around? No. He can both take and dish out enough damage to make him not completely relient on his minions.

And what about Statesman? We all know he's a TANKER (sheesh, sorry), but he can deal out as much damage as a scrapper. Therefore, both are hybrids of archetypes, in meaning that they are still one archetype but have characteristics of others.

Well, being an Incarnate doesn't mean you're fused with another existing AT, it just means, currently, that they're given more power than usual. What the Incarnate half of them do is still yet unknown.

I just wanted to clear that up.
Lord Recluse is a MM Incarnate.
Statesman is a Tanker Incarnate.
Stheno, the snake god, is an Incarnate (probably a hybrid with something else as well.)

What does their Incarnate half make them or do? we don't know yet, but we just know it makes them way more powerful than usual.

I think my comment on the main post makes that clear enough.

I predict BotBS is just the name for a group of Nictus (or Kheldians anyways)
