Badge Questions
[ QUOTE ]
Veluta has 2 arcs. The first is 5-10, the second has no level limit although the mobs cap at level 15. This leads to the impression she's 5-15, but if you get her after 10 you only get 3 of her missions.
Still, the level difference between the roaming ghosts and the trap-sprung ghosts means that no one hunts roaming ghosts until they're grey-con. That's kinda silly, IMHO.
[/ QUOTE ]
I for one don't want to see the badge that unlocks veluta cheapened just for the sake of unlocking. 100 should be the minimum for that type of badge. I personally find it bothersome that there's just no way to get the badge between levels 5-10 without having someone 10+ along to help. That's regardless of trap sprung spawns or not.

heck, add in another badge too...like the X times the victor badge, have one that changes to show how many Giant Monster's you've defeated. Or make a few badges so you get one for 5 monsters, 10 monsters, etc. That's extra incentive right there to take them on whenever I see them.
e can wait on the artwork, just plop the "exploration" graphic on their and give it a nifty description like:
Monster Hunter Apprentice - You have taken down 5 of the Giant Monsters that sometimes plague Paragon City
or
City Savior - You've defeated 20 Giant Monsters in your career, Tokyo officials have your number on speed dial.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was just going to post the same thing. Especially with CoH Japan coming out Monster hunting badges for large numbers of monsters defeated is a good idea.
The DE on monster island in PI are REALLY hard. This could be due to the fact that it's not too hard to accidentally aggro other monsters. It's the only place my pre-ED fire tank regularly went down & had full team wipes. Either the difficulty of these should be toned down OR there should be some other incentive(xp, rare hami type drops, rare temp power drops, accolade invovled in kill 50 DE monsters, etc.) to get a team to hunt them....other than the joy of a team wipe.
I don't know why but it really bothers me to see areas of the game unused 99% of the time.

Shoot, the giant grass type monsters in the Hive can one-shot my Scrapper with both HP accolades with his ranged attack. I guess your controller has some sort of resistances (from the epics?).

Basically: if it was meant to be taken down by more than 1 team, it gives the badge. Mission versions are scaled down versions that are more like AV's, thus able to be defeated by a single team, and thus do not give the badge.
[/ QUOTE ]
You might need to buff Giant Monsters then. There's not one in the game that requires more than one team to defeat.
[/ QUOTE ]
Will do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Whoa whoa whoa. First off, Lusca does. Secondly, it can be REALLY hard to get ONE full team to take any monster down aside from Kraken. There are MULTIPLE instances of Lusca up at almost any time in IP because everyone who wants the badge has it and no one wants to put up with the difficulty of taking him down AGAIN.
Villianside, Scrapyard is seen CONSTANTLY. It took me 3 sightings on my brute to finally get THREE teammates to help take him down. It is VERY hard to put together a Monster team, let alone multiple teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
A couple of points of note here...First, the DE Monsters in PI and the Hive are just that - Monsters. They are not Giant Monsters, according to their creature type. As I recall, this means that they do not scale to level as Giant Monsters do, but are distinctly Level 50 Monsters, with the associated to-hit and damage penalties that would come with someone of a lower level fighting them.
It is possible to take Lusca with a team of eight, even a team of 6. Yes, I have done it, several times. No, the teams were not 50s. One of them was level 6. I've tanked Lusca with my level 42 Scrapper, with the help of two very good Defenders, on one of those teams of eight that took Lusca down by ourselves. It does require tactics and careful approach to the monster, but it IS possible to do it with 6 people. Note. It is not possible to do it with 5 people. Yes, we tried, because we're insane. It might have been different if the Blaster on the team hadn't been the one that had left, though. Bear in mind also that this was not a pickup-group, but a group of friends that have teamed together for many levels and are virtually telepathic when it comes to anticipating combat strategies, and is thus NOT a representative sample of the population.
We tooled Scrapyard last night with 9 people. No deaths. Not even a serious injury. The minions were a greater threat to the two teams working on him than he was, and even then they didn't manage to kill anyone. Even the Paladin Construction can be killed by a single team, although this is *not* possible at the zone's level - There's simply too many clockworks that spawn for it to be done by a single team at lower levels.
If the Giant Monsters are supposed to require more than one team to kill, then yes, by all means buff them, the majority of them can be done with 4-5 people. I would recommend doing some careful looking into the respective difficulties of EACH Giant Monster, and buff them individually if possible, especially the Paladin Construction and Lusca, since they are special cases that are generally more difficult than most Giant Monsters.

Also, Hami Raids become more undesirable if you have a zone full of GMs that need

Also, please make sure to convert the Kronos Titan in Founder's Falls to whatever scaled-down thing is supposed to be for missions. I got surprised by that coming out of a solo mission yesterday, and only brought it down only because I was able to bring nine people together to bail me out of trouble. Very unpleasant.
While you're at it, you may want to increase the rewards. As it stands, it's very hard to get a full team together to go after a giant monster, much less two full teams. There's not really all that much point, especially if you already got the badge. At a bare minimum, I'd suggest level+3 SO for everyone that participates.

what not like their isn't allready 50+ people in the hive just to start a hami raid, and 100+ by the time it ends. well on Virtue atleast
also common spawned monsters in the Hive and the Islands north of PI are just "Monsters" not "Giant Monsters" their is a difference
and lusca takes so many heros to bring him down because he is actually 9 Giant Monsters all rolled into one

Then why don't you go find a harder game to play? Some of us don't have the luxury of hand picking teams and even have to *gasp* bring along Sidekicks to round up enough people for a team. Even then we find some of the Giant Monsters to be so difficult that we have given up even attempting them.
Why don't you take your accolade heavy, HO laden character and go do some Hami-Raids on your own? That or buy a mirrior so you can look at yourself and be impressed.

You know, not all of us have Level 50s that were power leveled and who have every accolade ever given and are bursting with HOs. Alot of us find the Giant Monsters already extremely difficult and are tired of getting team wiped when we try to fight them.... especially when we can't find enough people to form large teams and have to worry about not doing enough damage to receive the badge after working our tails off for 1/2 an hour.
I don't have the luxury of hand picking who I team with. I am lucky if I find a team who knows basic teamwork. I am getting very tired of hearing the elitests brag about Soloing AVs and having no problems with Giant Monsters.
[ QUOTE ]
As for Accolades and Exemplaring, it might seem unfair that you lose Accolade powers when you Exemplar, but to others it seems unfair that you HAVE Accolade powers when you Exemplar. Since Exemplar is you "playing yourself at a lower level" it makes sense to take away your Accolades. I don't see this changing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Others have said it but I'm chiming in agreement. This is unfair. Say you guys come up with a new accolade tomorrow... my level 50's don't have the option of earning it before 50. They are going to be awarded tht accolade at 50, whereas my newbies can get it at the earliest possible level.
Same goes for people who were already at 40 when badges came out. (It was issue 1 with the level raise right?) Assuming so, they were instantly discriminated against because they were already so high. Even worse would be if it came out after the level cap was raised.
Bottom line is it creates have and have nots. I have the accolades at the bare minimum level on a lot of my toons because my friends do the hunt badges with me exemplared and I know enough what missions offer what badges.
Joe Newbie has not because he doesn't know a thing about accolades and how they work.
I have them on my lowbies as soon as possible as stated above.
A lot of 50's have not because they didn't get the accolade until they were older for reasons that may have been out of their control.
1) It's discrimination.
2) It creates have and have nots.

Hello, Mr. Bitterman. Pleased to meet you.
As for your presumptions: I have one level 50 character. Took 417 hours to get him there. The only time he was ever powerleveled was for like 3 bubbles somewhere around level 20, when I really didn't know how to play the game worth a crap. It felt pretty cheap and I decided not to do it again. He has 1 HO that he just got last week. He has 3 accolades. The Crey Pistol, the Vanguard Medal, and the 5% HP boost. All of these are pretty useless. I play with about 4 people regularly, one of them being my wife. Any teaming I do besides that is a PuG or a friend of a friend.
I've managed to fight every Giant Monster on the CoH side with the exception of whatever is in the Eden trial. In every one of those instances I was on a pick-up team. In most of those cases, our team was the only one fighting the monster. It took maybe 10 to 20 minutes to assemble the teams because people had to login with a different toon and then travel to the monster from a different zone or whatever. With the exception of Lusca, it took no more than 3 or 4 minutes to defeat the monsters. In most of these encounters no one on the team had their HP drop below yellow.
Take this information as you will, I take it to mean Giant Monster encounters don't live up to the hype and are generally disappointing button mashing fests. I don't know why you have such problems forming teams (maybe it has something to do with your attitude) or why even with a full team you have such a hard time defeating monsters, but I'm willing to bet you're in the vast minority.

Also, if all these monsters were meant to be taken down by more than one team, why should only one team get the badge? Forgive me if I'm mistaken, it's been a while since I've tackled a giant monster, but last I checked the badge was only given to the team that does the most damage. This was to prevent, I guess, people from coming in, swatting the thing once and sitting at a safe distance for the badge. And it works nicely for that scenario, but consider this scenario:
Team A: Deals a total of 2000 damage
Team B: Deals a total of 1999 damage
Team A: "WooooO! Badge earned!"
Team B: "@#$%... well, that was a big fat waste. But at least we kept team A's scrappers alive with our defenders."
So I ask in general, but especially if you go around buffing monsters up, let the badge go to all who help to defeat the monster, not just the team with the highest level damage dealers.
Again, strike this completely from the record if I don't have my facts straight. I do know that this does not apply to Lusca, but I'm pretty sure it still goes for Adamaster, Krakens, etc...

Currently the badge is given to ANY team or player-not-on-a-team that does 25% or more damage to the Giant Monster.
When Giant Monsters get tougher (Issue 7), this number will drop to 10%(or more), encouraging more teams to fight them. The rewards will be increasing as well.

Kronos spawning in PvP zones was a bug that I believe is fixed. There never was any plan to have Kronos spawn in Warburg, but because he spawned on a CoH TF it used to be able to make the ambush happen in a PvP zone. This, I believe, has been fixed as it was/is a bug.

Let me clarify something.
Badges don't care if you are villain or hero, there are no (or should I say, very few) badges that are "hero only" or "villain only". If you are able to defeat an enemy required for a badge, you can earn that badge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Based on this information, the badge for killing 1000 longbow is bugged for heroes. Any chance of getting that badge properly enabled, with a status bar?
Actually its not bugged ...

How was this a bug? if the mission holder is in any other zone the Kronos ambush will spawn on him in that zone. So why was the pvp zone a bug as where other zones are not?
And with that being said will Kronos be available in the future for villains?
I mean there are quite a few villains out there that have this badge because they either fought and defeated Kronos in Warburg or Siren's Call.
Will other villains be given the chance to earn this badge in the future of CoV?

Since Kronos is spawned as 40+ Hero content, and we haven't seen 40+ Villain content, there's no way to say for sure he'll make an appearance, but Since Malta begin to appear in Warburg for higher lvl Villains, I don't much doubt they'll come to plague Villains in Grandville.

At some point, we're really going to need better rewards than just another SO.....
Very good to know
And, as I've now completed this thread, I just want to comment on Lusca.
Any individual part of lusca is easy, except for the head (too much resistance/regen). It's the combination of them that is hard.
For fear of nerfbat, I won't explain exactly how, but if I team with a friend of mine, we are capable of duoing the tentacles. The head on the other hand, two of us can't even dent.
But Lusca overall, is a very dull monster to fight, I would really like to see the following changes introduced, to actualy make it a fun, exciting battle.
First, drasticaly reduce the damage each tentacle is capable of doing(to about 15-20% of current damage). Then drasitcaly increase the range of the tentacles, they are huge, they should be able to attack me fairly far out. I.E. You shouldn't be able to attack the furthest out tentacle and have only it attack you. All the tentacles and the head should be attacking. This would actualy increases Lusca's damage output(at least for the first half of the fight, after which lusca would become progressivly weaker, which makes sense. If you hack off a giant octopus's tentacles, or blow them up, burn them, etc, it should become less effective) , but it would spread it out over more time/people.
If a character is in melee range to lusca, all of luscas tentacles should be in melee range to them.
The whole World Wide Red storyarc is about how expensive the Kronos was to put together and how there were only two of them, which the heroes take out over the course of the arc.
I don't think we'll see another Kronos on the villain side just so we can get a badge.
