Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement.
2008 Halloween Event Has Begun!
As a special thank you to all City of Heroes and City of Villains players we've begun this year's Halloween Event early! We've had such a great weekend at Hero-Con with the players that came out to our event and wanted to give something back to everyone else playing online! Now through November 2nd, enjoy the 2008 Halloween Event!
This year's event has a new twist with a group of unwanted guests looking to spoil the trick or treating, Zombies!
Zombies
These homely fellows seem to be literally rising from the ground beneath us and attacking heroes, villains and citizens without discrimination. Their taste in fashion is despicable, not to mention the flies and the smell! Be sure to have the zone event channel added to one of your chat tabs in-game to see the event notifications and take part in all the fun!
Badges, Temporary Costumes and Other Rewards
But know this! With new challenges come new rewards! All of last year's trick or treating goodies are back this year. Heroes and Villains can collect Classical Costumes (and wear them) for Trick or Treating throughout the city. Badges will be available for those who collect the most Classical Costumes. It's almost enough to make heroes and villains set their differences aside. Almost.
Old Enemies Return
Ravenwing Cabal's Annah will be in Croatoa to explain more about some of the activities, as will Granny Beldam in Nerva Archipelago.
The fun begins today, October 18th, and continues through Sunday, November 2nd at 11:59pm EST.

Cool. My other um... home... crashed... so this is perfect timing!
Anyone know what the new badges are? -

In the end we wanted to create a special gift for those folks that come out to our booth and show us love.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem is, you only ever have booths on the West Coast of hte U.S. - and apparently, all the way in Germany, too. NEver in the middle of the country, nor on the East Coast.
If you came to Boston or New York? Most folks on the East Coast would at least have a chance of attending. Not to mention, plenty of folks in eastern Canada might be able to try and get in on it.
It would cost me a couple MONTHS' income to get to the west coast for a weekend ... more, if I wanted to actually eat, or sleep indoors.
[ QUOTE ]
Hopefully it is something we can continue to do as we grow and reach out to shows and live gatherings in the future.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, hopefully it is something you will recognise as a collossal mistake, and stop doing. Exclusive, nonpurchasable, permanent in-game items SUCK ...!

I'd love for them to do something like this east coast.
This is one thing I hate about WoW. My favorite Blizzard character is Tyrael. There's a Tyrael pet in WoW. A pet you only got if you went to some stupid gathering I think they had in France or some such. Or I can buy it off Ebay for $500+ bucks.
Yeah right spend several k going to France or 500+ on ebay for a vanity item. However it's a vanity item I am completely cut off from which really ticks me off.
Ya' know I find WoW a funner game, but as a community and company I always thought these guys really ranked up there.
Everything was available to everyone with either a time (vet rewards) or minor financial investment, like the good vs evil goodies or the wedding pack.
Now they're pulling the same crap that Blizzard is pulling.
You already know how ticked many people felt at vet rewards, and anyone can get those with the time investment. Now you're introducing items that are for a select few.
Why does someone who lives within driving distance of the event deserve this item more than me? I'd go if it was reasonably close but ya' know... kinda' stuck in RI here so can't say either of these events is considered reasonably close. -

WHY NO EMP FOR CORR? ELF_STALKER
Empathy isnt a villainous trait, generally speaking. From a fiction standpoint, it will likely never be given to Villains as a set.
Back to thematics Empathy isnt really a villainous trait. From a fiction standpoint, it wasnt our first choice to port over and the reason corruptors didnt receive it in the first place as part of the release of City of Villains. If we were to add an Empathy Like set, it would need to be all new and not a port of it, to make it fit into the Villainous theme. As such, that fell out of the scope of Issue 12s powerset proliferation and is why it wasnt included.
[/ QUOTE ]
Defenders have dark, not very hero like.
Scrappers have dark melee, not very hero like.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is consistently and intentionally overlooked. They just don't want to give empathy to villains.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dark doesn't mean bad. That's an assumption you're making.
Empathy is an emotion and the empathy set is about compassion and caring and even with one power, giving of oneself for your fellow man/woman/huge.
Dark is just a power source. Neither good nor bad. -

I like the idea of playing a Storm/MM but I don't see what is so dominating about Kinetic MM's. Yes, they'd deal a lot of damage, but the trade off is that your heal is awful, and Masterminds have no real use for all the +stamina options. We'd all be using it to simply make our guys hit a bit harder. At level 38, with Fulcrum Shift, this could be impressive, but earlier on simply stealing power isn't that big of a deal.
I guess making attack speed faster is a big deal too. . . I'm looking forward to making an electric/kinetics corrupter and actually trying to work the "stamina drain" angle.
[/ QUOTE ]
Transfusion: Killer AoE heal for melee henchemen. Okay for others if you control them right or the mob is on your ranged guys. Added benefit of fast recharge, fast cast time, -reg and a minor end loss.
-Compare to: Twighlight Grasp: The AoE on this is targetted around you meaning you need to be close to those you want healed and the activation time is longer. Added benefit of -acc/-dam. This is the only other AoE heal avail to masterminds. Triage beacon isn't a heal, it's more of a reg buff.
Siphon Power: AoE buff centered around MM. With this he can one-shot buff every one of his hencheman. Added benefit that it also debuffs the mob.
-Compare to: Nothing. There's no other AoE buffs like this in any of the other MM secondaries. Add it to something like Serum though from merc prim...
Siphon Speed: Huge buff for the MM. +rech for them, -rech for foe. Siphon speed + hasten + IO's that buff recharge...
-Compare to: Nothing. There's nothing in any of the other secondaries which would compare to this.
Speed Boost: +Run/Rech/Reco. Your henchies are now machines. They move faster, recover end faster and are shooting/swinging etc etc a hell of a lot faster. Spped boost can make a huge difference in how affective someone/something is.
Compare to: Nothing. There is nothing in any of the secondaries which compares to this.
Transference: AoE end buff and end drain on enemy.
Compare to: Nothing. Again there's nothing in any of the other secondaries which compares to this.
And finally, Fulcrum Shift: Super damage AoE buff galore. And again there's nothing in any other secondary that comes close.
You're very dismissive in your post about the pro's of a kin mm. And as much as I'd love a kin mm they would be extremely overpowered. Kin would end up being so gutted as to almost be a new power-set completely.
Seriously... if anyone has any doubts... team with a kinetic. Run a mission with your guys as normal solo. Then run it with the kinetic. There's going to be no comparisson. And for a real test, don't use your secondary and don't let them use their other set. You only use your MM prim and they only can use the kinetic set.
You could pretty much emulate what having kinetics as your secondary would be like doing that. Compare the difference. -

First of all, don't speak to him like that. Second of all, does that make you feel like a big boy talking to him like that and calling him a fan-boy? Does that win your argument? Know what babies (real babies, not whiny game players) do when they don't get their way? First they cry... then they throw a temper tantrum and lash out. Guess you're done with the crying part...

Why? Becuase I thought Snow was a chick? Made an assumption based on his name (sorry bud). Doesn't change anything.
Besides genius, I'm one of those guys who likes his own gender. So Snow being a dude wouldn't exactly knock me off my game.
My chivalry <sp> was genuine. Not everyone's trying to protect a chick out of a desire to get in her pants. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you like certain powersets being ported over, more power to you. however i'm looking at what all AT's get, that's what pvpers do. Large part of being proficient in the arena or zone for that matter is being aware of the capabilities/holes of every powerset/AT you may run into.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey you want to take part in what amount to the afterbirth of this game, deal with the mess. They could shut off PvP right now and the game would survive.
I know it sucks dude to hear this but the truth is PvP is such an afterthought/aside you PvP folk have to get used to that PvE will ALWAYS come first. Sometimes that's going to further shake up the PvP world.
PvP gets you nothing except satisfaction. PvE is where the progression is at and where most players spend their time.
You can't say you'd spend your money developing for 10% of your customer base (just throwing a number out there) at the sake of 90% of them. Bad business.
[ QUOTE ]
With that said, BaB stated that the first powersets being ported over were going to be the ones capable of being directly ported, meaning that psi blast is 99% chance going to be identical to the defender version. All signs are pointing toward a direct port, so I don't believe anyone is jumping the gun. PvPers are stating what WILL happen if you give the set to blasters who enjoy their damage mod + build up + boost range. Good luck finding anything in pvp zones other than stealth capped stalkers, because I don't think most players will enjoy getting 2-3 shotted by emp'd psi blasters. While the 'serious pvpers' aren't the biggest group in the game, there are a lot of casual pvpers who frequent the zones and this potentially hurts them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh so it'll be hero's turn to shine in PvP for once since Stalkers have the highest kill numbers. And again... this isn't about PvP. I know to YOU it is... but there's a whole nother game out there besides PvP.
You guys will be the first to criticize someone for whining about stalkers. Tell them to lern2play etc. Well, lern2play. Adapt. Or, roll a psi blaster.
[ QUOTE ]
About your friend, well that's understandable, but we differ in our philosophies. My ingame friends I'm sure can handle themselves on an internet forum, most of them have heard much worse from the anti-PvP / anti-Freedom crowd.

And some of us stick up for our friends. -
[ QUOTE ]
Villains as a whole, get 9 'new' sets that villains can use. Storm can be used by 2 different AT's, but it's still one powerset ported to villains. Judging by your logic, if we add a powerpool set available (with 4 powers like all other pool powersets) to all AT's, we would be getting 44 new available powers. Sorry, but most people don't see it that way.
I highly doubt the blasters will be getting a port from the dominator psi assault set, it wouldn't make sense. Mental blast, psi scream, subdue, psi lance in a secondary? right, lol. It's not going to be a direct port from psi assault, no way considering some of the power choices will be redundant with psi blast.
lol if you think i don't know what I'm talking about. We can meet in the arena anytime buddy, care to test your game knowledge and experience in a 10 minute match?

I can't sway you with intelligent counter argument so let me beat you up.
You lose right there buddy. -

Wow...I just noticed my earlier post was erased. I didn't even say anything inapropriate. Let me try again...
Heroes did pretty good IMO. I think the vast majority wanted elec/elec, and hardly anyone wanted dark anything. I also think the vast majority wanted SuperStrength for scrappers, but fire/fire isn't to bad either.
As far as villains go, we got crap IMO. Out of 5 possible weapon sets brutes could have gotten, we get the two slowest and IMO lamest. To top it off we get SR which will completely suck for brutes unless it gets some kinda quick recovery added in.
That's just the beginning though. Storm for Corruptors is disappointing....storm for MM is a freaking joke. I was thinking Wow! if MMs get rad or thermal I will actually like having them on my team....instead they get the most annoying knockback/whitout set ever. To top the whole thing off stalkers get elec/elec. R U [censored] serious? It's almost like they just gave it to stalkers to rub it in tanks face.
How can the Devs be so out of touch with the player base not to realize this was gonna suck? I know this is suppose to just be the beginning and more powers will be shared, but seriously, we coulda done better than this.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll say it again... THIS IS JUST THE START. Cripes all you damned babies act like these are the only powers that are going to be moved around. You didn't get what you want so instead of posting constructive feedback you come in here whining and threatening and dissing the devs.
I hope Castle or BaB's comes in here, tell you all to screw and as a lesson they're pulling the rest of the proliferation since you don't know how to be patient and control yourselves. -
[ QUOTE ]
If I didn't have a reason to close both of my accounts an quit this game I do now. Talk about the villians. If we weren't under powered before, we definately are now. Have any of the Dev's ever read a comic. Villians are equally as powerful as hero's, just opposite weaknesses. I can't believe we got screwed again. Are they biased or am I insane?

I would respectfully suggest that you focus your attention on places that really are badly out of balance, lest the forums become The Villains That Cried Wolf. If everybody continues to wail and gnash their teeth at perceived insults from the developers, then the real issues go unheeded. And there are issues: but "omg we gave away Thermal and we didn't get anything" isn't one of them. Villains did get something for it; it just wasn't what you, personally, wanted it to be.
[/ QUOTE ]
But why should we have to focus on other things now? A forum is meant to express one's distaste. Also, there is a list of issues that have been produced many, many times, by the Redsiders, but nothing has changed.
[ QUOTE ]
...however I do feel that the lack of powerboost on villain side for buffs and not having an empathy since heroes got thermal is wrong. That is basicly my issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then why don't you encourage the developers to consider Empathy as a villain set next go-round? That would be much more constructive, and it'd moderate the repetitive "devs hate villains" whine coming from the rest of this thread.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I feel the condescending lets attack anyone who dislikes the new Powersets peachiness is far more annoying.

We don't know that for sure. People are jumping to conclusions. Nothing has been tested. People know what they wanted V-side, didn't get it so naturally devs hate them. Forget the fact now that they will be releasing more and this is just the beginning... oh no we didn't get it and get it now so the devs hate us. Fools. Test first, whine later.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes I do know a lot of things for sure. You have to be totally clueless to see that what villains received pales in comparison to what heroes got. Play some villains before accusing someone of being a whiner. There is a difference between whining and just stating the obvious truth.
[/ QUOTE ]
My second 50 was a villain. I was also CoV first wave beta. I've played villains. I play villains. I probably have more serious villain toons than hero toons (yes I suffer from that debilitating disease known as altitis) because with villains came a lot of options allowing one to really make themed toons. Even more-so than before. At least for me. And that includes Praetorian <sp> alts for all my main hero's.
I won't comment on what I don't play, so what defenders, controllers, tanks, stalkers and corrupters get is pointless to me. I don't like the classes so side is irrelevant.
However people are jumping the gun on Psi blasters. Lets see if they're the four horsemen of the apoc made binary code before we assume they are.
Masterminds got the most realistic set for them. Sorry but a rad or kin MM would just be way overpowered without major power revamp.
Brutes got questionable sets, but they were the easiest to port over. Again... this is just the 'first wave' of power ports, so stop foaming at the mouth. Next issue or major patch might bring a whole lot of love villain side.
Scapper fire/fire is bleh to me. I like scrappers but I've 0 interest in a fire/fire so that means nothing to me.
After blasters, my next love is Dominators. I have like 5 of 'em. My only regret there is ele wasn't released sooner with it. This is major cool points from me.
That's my opinion on it... on what I'll actually play. Not my place to DOOM classes I know damned well I don't play.

well at least it's obivous that you guys hate the villains now.
[/ QUOTE ]
You know after reading this entire thread, and several others, I have to say something:
Villains-only players are the biggest bunch of crybabies I have seen in ANY game forum. If the developers truly hated villains, they would not make sure that the issues had stuff that both "sides" could use. They don't need to.
They could stop all development of everything red side and devote 100% of their resources blue side, but they do not.
Worse, all these calls of "Devs hate CoV" come before a single player has seen Issue 12 as the game is still not even to the closed beta stage.
Whine moar.
The developers might not hate self proclaimed "CoV-Only" players, but after putting up with all the whining in the last 3-4 free issues, I would not blame them one bit.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hey guess what. Heroes cry more than we ever have. Villains get mayhems: waaaaah we want that too. Safeguards are born. Villains get LRSF waaaaah we want that too.. STF is born. Seriously you pretentious twit; get off your high horse and stop blaming the villains for crying you heroes are the true cry babies.
[/ QUOTE ]
Here let me spell it out since this is obviously too complicated for you to understand:
Safeguards were coming REGARDLESS. Do you REALLY think the devs would implement a feature like that for one side only?
STF was also coming.
The only twit here is you for thinking hero's whining somehow had ANYTHING to do with safeguards and STF. Those features were going to be released regardless. However they were released for villains first to allow the villains some catchup content to what the hero's already had.
EDIT: See my quote from Lady about your post to get an idea of why you shouldn't post anymore. -
[ QUOTE ]
lol for your information, I play heroes also. My guess, is much like many others posting here, you spend zero time playing on the villain side. It's obvious enough that the heroes clearly got the better end of this deal, by a long shot.

Besides, we just like to give the game away
[/ QUOTE ]
Sigh... Gee, that's really nice for us longtime, loyal customers to hear, after we bought the Pre-Release, bought the publication issue, bought the Special DVD Edition, bought City of Villains, bought the Special Edition of THAT, and bought the Gvs E upgrade, all the while paying our monthly fees.
Nice to know our support went toward making it possible to "give the game away". (You're welcome, by the way, to all those newcomers who have been able to come aboard for a mere $30.00 investment; really, it's our pleasure...)
But hey, at least we saw a return on our investments... we got to have our Travel Powers Suppressed, our Enhancements Diversified and our Influence reduced to the value of 1932 Deutschemarks... Oh, and we lost about 83% of our player base to "That Other Game That May Not Be Mentioned" because of such abuse.
But we stayed anyway.

::sigh::
Dude I just get the impression that you're bitter about some things and take every chance you can to lash out. I mean look at your location. You're obviously angry about some changes the devs have made.
Now, giving away 4 or 5 copies of the game is not the slap in the face you're making it out to be. Stop trying to turn Lighthouses comment about giving the game away into some massive slap in the face to everyone who bought it.
As someone above me posted, most people are investing a lot more into their costumes than the value of the prize. It's also good business. If these people already have the game, then they can give this game away to 4 or 5 others and potentially get 4 or 5 more subscribers, which is a good thing.
That all being said, let me say this; (and it's not an attack or meant to be antagonistic, it is a statement of fact, facts aren't always pretty)
1) No one forced you to buy this game or any addon. You did it by choice.
2) You're still here, so you must like something about the game.
If the travel surpression ticks you off that much, fine. Try to appeal to Positron and _Castle_. Give them good, intelligent reasons why they should remove it. But coming to the forums and throwing tantrums doesn't help your cause.
We're all 'adults' here. Acting like a spoiled brat isn't going to win your day or your argument. -

Starting at level 33, you earn "points" toward your signature power. You basically get one point per level all the way up to 50. Each point is spent in a tree that modifies the ability of the power. There is a special "lock" system in place so you cannot just focus all your points into one category. (IE, focusing all points into "Hold" so that the power is like mag 20)

Ex stated this would free up a huge number of names. Also considering you're not privy to the list of what names will fall into this category I doubt you have the slightest concept on wether or not names you find cool or good will be freed up.

$45.00 + $45.00 = $90.00 for month of August!!!

I honestly don't remember buying two. I really can't afford it. As it is I've got bids in for three full sets but don't even have the money to buy the salvage.
Oh well... if I know it's not going to be taken away I'll put it back up for sale lol. -
... Did anything get fixed yet?
The reason I ask is because I have 2 of a recipe I know I only bought one of. And I had purchased it well over a day before any glitches. So when the game was rolled back I only had one. I only had one during the glitches. I only had one the day before the glitches. Now I have two.
I know exactly what the one and only item I lost was and it was from the same set so I'm wondering if they tried/did a replacement and just gave back the wrong item? I just can't seem to find any posts supporting that they've actually gone forward with a fix yet. -
