First...I confirm that we're working on right now (as in pohsyb in the next room) to add CoV costume parts into CoH if you own both games....

Then we repeal the hated stealth nerf. The reason why: many well reasoned posts. It's that simple. You guys pointed out the problems.

AND now...we're changing the way Archvillains spawn. A ton of forum goers disliked adding so many AV's into missions a while back...so we've come up with a solution. If the team size and mission difficulty are ABOVE a certain level, an Archvillain spawns. Below that, players will face only an Elite Boss. If the mission is set on the first two levels of difficulty, it takes 4 heroes or more to spawn an Arch Villain. On the third level, 3 heroes or more. On the fourth level, 2 heroes. On the highest (Invincible), a solo hero will spawn an AV. Note this works in BOTH City of Heroes and Villains.

In order to incentivize larger teams, Positron is going to add a bonus to AV rewards!

[/ QUOTE ]

Right. So the stealth change had me on the edge of silently exiting to WoW... then you had to go and put me back in fanboi mode with the Elite Boss thing.

Though it may be a good idea to confirm that the badges involved will still happen with the Elite-Boss-level, say, Tyrant.

If the rewards haven't been decided yet and still open to suggestions:

(1) Every AV gets a badge, for defeating them "at the peak of their power". You don't get it for the EB version. (EB versions should count for portal jokeys, I think that's the only AV-related badge.)

(2) Instead of picking one lucky person to get a random SO, everyone at the end of the mission gets to pick and SO, set at their level +2 or the AV's level+2, whichever is lower.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would like to add some ideas.

1) Special temp power related to the AV. (mentioned by another poster)

2) Special costume piece from the fallen AV unlocked at Icon. (Like Infernal's helmet or Brawlers Metal gloves )

I think this is the first time I've been genuinely excited in many a year.

The AV suggestion has been gushed over enough so I'll say this. Revoking the stealth nerf is fantastic. I was dreading it, but the best part about that was "You guys pointed out the problems." That's was my favorite part about this post. Giving credit where credit is sue is something I very rarely see from a development team, and the fact that you guys listened to us was an instant faith booster. Very appreciative of this news.

Well crap... this only leaves us with 999,997 things to complain about.

This probably isn't the place to ask,
but it would sure be nice to know if anyone else but Castle is looking into Defender issues. ...It would also be nice to know who's looking at Assault Rifle issues, and who's looking at Dominators. ...But mainly, when is Repel going to get ACC enhancment slotting? Been waiting a pretty long time for it...

WOO! @ costume options.

Alright. CoV will be in my hands VERY soon, and the AV change is awesome. Good stuff.

I'm not quite sure I understand the problem.

[/ QUOTE ]

I like the idea of different AV settings. Its a good thing, especially for those of us who do run solo alot.

The problem is thus; I have a small group of friends, we usually fight AV's with about four or five of us ( if we can all get together at the same time). We don't have a huge group to go kick whoever's butt with an 8 man team.

Add some special bonus and only those who have such groups will recieve said bonus. Leaving the rest of us in the dust.
Just like the whole Super/Villian Group; prestige, salvage, base program.

Statesman...I love you. This single post has made me happier than I've been in days.

Positron, you're awesome too--clarification and codification of the awesome makes it easier to understand exactly how wonderful this is.

PvP is still awful compared to the other PvP choices out there(5 million customers=doing something right).

[/ QUOTE ]

Umm? I've played the "5 MILLION CUSTOMER" game, and neither the PvE or PvP can compare. Can you transform into a flying squid while your opponent jumps 100m in the air and a third person irradiates you while running 80mph?

No?

Not as good, sorry.

But on the AV change...my gods...the ONE thing that could have driven me away from this game, and its going away. Glorious.

And a question for Positron. Whats a World Spawn?

[/ QUOTE ]

A World Spawn is a spawn that takes place in the game-world, not in an instanced mission.

The Hamidon Mitochondria are an example of an Arch-villain World Spawn, and thus will not be reduced in any way by this change.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah, thanks. I didnt remember those guys. I think they're the only outside of a mission AV at the moment.

I may be in the minority here, but I like the way AVs currently spawn, they're one of the few things which pose a challenge in the game.

I have so much more fun fighting AVs in a duo, where every round is on the edge of disaster; than gangbanging AVs with a team of 8.

For me, if I can't spawn AVs with just 2 people, the challenge is taken out of the game.

WOW! Thanks a ton this is all great news .

Now for the big question. WHAT ARE YOU PLANING TO DO TO REGEN?!? j/k

But you can. Just turn your difficulty up to the point where a duo will spawn one.

And those who like to solo will no longer be faced with having to get a team to deal with AVs. They might just need to turn their difficulty down a notch.

Best of both worlds. Kudos to the dev team.

And CoV options in CoH is wonderful news.

And the stealth thing? Thank the gods. That would've been a serious QoL issue.

This's the best news related to CoH in quite a while.

I totally agreed with the above poster, so I just copied it :P

Thank you for listening!

I understand your point, but that's not the same thing. Now the AV is +3 which is a lot tougher for a duo than an even-con AV or even +1 AV.

That's like going back to square one and requiring soloists to "Gain 3 more levels before you trying fighting your AV."

What about Demon Slayer? The one for defeating Baphomet. Can't remember if he spawns as a GM or an AV.

Also 'Statesman's Pal' for taking out Tyrant.

And the 'Ten Times the Victor' series for defeating Mary Macomber, although, since she's a TF AV, guess she wouldn't fall into the AV - EB thing.

Those are the only badges that come to mind for taking out AV class guys. Really, for this its kinda an important question.

Although I am happy now after hearing those things.

Y'know, at first I thought it was kinda sickening the way people are falling all over themselves with joy over this. After all, none of these are really that big of a deal. Yeah, the AV one is great for soloers, but getting AV teams was never really that tough. GOOD AV teams? A bit tougher, I admit, but hardly impossible.

But these are certainly not worth offering one's firstborn for...

But then it occurred to me that maybe this just shows how starved for something positive the players of this game really are. These reactions are not unlike giving food to a starving man, or water to someone that has just walked across a desert. Maybe you should take this as a sign to give some positive changes to this community rather than nerf on top of nerf.

Sorry if this has been covered, but I could I get something clarified about this, States?

I have had a number of duos where we were able to defeat an AV of even level, but when set on the higher difficulty, we got an AV that was +1 and it whomped our butts.

So, with this change, will the AV that spawns for a team of two (on second-highest difficulty) be +0 or +1?

The existing level modification of the difficulty settings will need to be independant of the AV spawn, or a duo will get an AV that is potentially higher than they would have got under the current system.

If a small team can only get a +1AV, the new system will actually make it harder to survive these encounters and will de-incentivise people to fight them without a full team.
