Enhanced Difficulty Options - Players can now fine-tune their difficulty levels by telling the game exactly how they want to be treated. They can choose to be regarded as a specific size team (even if they are soloing), and even have control over the level they are detected to be when it comes to the dynamic spawn system. So if you ever wanted to see if your Scrapper could take on a map that is populated for an 8 person team, four levels higher than your own, now you can! The difficulty settings of the mission owner dictate how the mission is handled, just as before, and you can change your difficulty settings at any Hero Corp.'s Representative in Paragon City or Fateweaver in the Rogue Isles.

This is great and all but are you devs smoking crack?

If you hate farming then what on earth do you think this is going to do?

Not that I care because i will be more than happy to use this to get levels and do purple farms.

I have a Psi/Mental and I like to dabble in pvp with him (my main pvp is my ol fashioned fire/em). However, I hear/see folks doing really well with Psi/ and I was wondering a typical pvp build may look like? I'm thinking along the lines of what powers work best in pvp and why and perhaps slotting.

Thanks for the help in advance

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don’t waste your time. I have a Psi/Mental Blaster with 5 purple sets and that character sucks in PvP. It's not worth the time or the money.

Feel free to do it anyway I just wanted to let you know that my impression of it was less than happy.

    Rain of Fire

I notice that if I use Rain of Fire I will get attack by groups that have not even been messed with yet.

    Any one else seeing this?

That seems obvious if you start thinking like you are roleplaying and not accumulating "score" in some game you made up for yourself. Having badges for specific jobs allows a specific reward for playing your character consistently: If you play a doctor, and consistently log out in the hospital, you will soon start to get more rewards from logging out in the hospital than would a roll-player who goes there because they currently want that reward.

It's about time an MMO company started making mechanics that rewarded people for role-playing. Too many things that coudl be done along those lines are too exploitable. (For example, a real superhero does not say to the old lady who is being mugged, "I'm sorry ma'am. I don't get any exp for helping you so you can just suffer." But if there were any reward at all for defeating gray enemies, some rollplayer would exploit it so there isn't.)

I like this idea on many levels, but most especially because it's a tangible incentive to roleplay characters at least a tiny bit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No you see real RPing would make you take on a job in game and grind it while not in control of your superpowers. So if you are a cop you get a gun attack and a pistol whip and that's it. You have to then pick the night or day time to do this job then the other time you can use your superhero powers. If you are late to work by not reporting to your supervisor then you get debt.

The longer you do the job the more xp your earn for that job which gives you extra powers in your job and badges. THAT’S RPing in a game not logging out and pretending you are doing a job.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I totally wanted to grind for the 'File TPS reports' badge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes but you get debt because you forgot the cover page.

I am surprised over and over at how much people complain. This is suppose to be a mini-game to play while ur logged out. Not somethin u have to do as fast as possible, its extra stuff. Why does everyone want everythin instantly? I hear people complain about how that ruined other games becuase of people wantin everythin now now. Calm down it suppose to take time to get rewards, why dont u just complain it takes a year to get the 12 month badge and how bout the devs make it only 6 months while ur all at it. I think this is a sweet thing to add that gives us somethin in which we used to get nothin, not playin.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A mini game? I didn't know I was playing WHILE I AM LOGGED OFF!

  12. I have an idea why don’t you (the devs) just start sell us badges!

I mean you are selling us all kinds of other crap why not move to badges? If people don't like the time sink then hey pop down 10 bucks and get the badge you want. Buy three and get a discount!

Just in case some of you missed it that was sarcasm.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
A lot more than that. It will now take you 1 year and 2 months to get all the badges.

    ...on the same character.

Which brings us back to: consider the possibility that you actually aren't supposed to have every badge in the game on one character.

If I'd designed the system you'd only be able to get one accolade out of it, period. (You could "quit" and start on a new one, but you'd only ever have one at a time.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well if your ok with that then fine but some of us like to get as many badges as we can. I don't see the problem with it either because they do nothing for you (well most of them don't).

Below is a list of some, but not all, of the Day Job Accolades available in Issue 13: Power and Responsibility

    [/ QUOTE ]

The point I'm trying to make is that it would take well over a year to complete the badges...

The other point is that while they wanted to make it non-trivial to earn the bonuses, I think they went too far in the opposite direction (as usual).

    [/ QUOTE ]

From a different point of view, this is added purely as added flavor for a character. It's not added purely as badge material for those who must have them all, and now. Taking a month to earn a free benefit we've never had access to before doesn't seem outrageous.

I don't believe it's intended that SupaDude, who's secret identity is James Boring, would be a city official and a police officer, as well as someone who owns a business, works in a bank, parties frequently, tends the sick in a hospital, designs clothing, and teaches college classes. And, in his spare time, become the chief of police, head of security at a company, a doctor, a practicing scientist, and, oh, by the way, an alchemist.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then why have badges or accolades? If it's a pure RP thing why get anything from it at all?

Consider this, if my main toon is my fav toon i would like to play him so earning any one of these badges is going to take a long long long time.

Assuming you do things like work, eat and sleep, you are probably spending upwards of 12 hours a day not playing CoH. At least, hopefully. I'm probably averaging around four hours a day in game, not nearly all on the same character, and I work out of the house with a lot of down time.

Exactly how many hours a day do you expect to play your "fav toon"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok even if you do only play your main for say 4 hours every day do you know how much longer it would take to get all the badges?

You would lose 120 hours every month towards your badge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The horror! That's all of 5 days.

A lot more than that. It will now take you 1 year and 2 months to get all the badges.

why does everyone (mostly) want to just blow thru content? It seems ost want everythign right now.. I think the system is great the way its explained... They only problem i see is for people ( the few ) that only play one toon. If i am hooked on playing a toon all my other toons will be earning rested XP, bonuses and other rewards. Its a great idea and system.

I like it, I hope it stays as is...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    THIS IS NOT CONTENT!

I do not have to do anything for it other than make sure my character is logged out in the right place.

I don't want to blow through content. In fact I want more content but instead I get this.

i remember seeing some where that the day job badges were linked to costumes

    [/ QUOTE ]

Day job badges are NOT linked to costumes.

The day job related costumes are free, unlocked at the start, content in Issue 13.

And the 30 days is what we are initially going with. The values may change in beta.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How long is this beta going to be?

I mean really why would you need to test if we like the 30 day thing or not? Are you testing to see if it works or what?

Why should we pay you to not play our main characters or our badge characters?

    (QR)

    1) Yes, outright changing powers is bad. Unfortunately, it's the only way we *could* proceed that met with the goals we had in mind, the technical limitations presented and the timeframe allowed. I hate "building cottages" but it was the only path in this circumstance.

    2) I misspoke re: Weapon Mastery getting Focused Accuracy. It's Targeting Drone. Functionally, it's *identical* to FA, it just has the visuals and display name of TD.

    3) Web Grenade is the power that is being replaced in Weapon Mastery.

    4) Yes, various PPP's now have access to FA.

I'm certain a complete list of the changes will be up here on the forums within an hour of Beta starting (soon!(tm)) and I'm looking forward to the feedback (positive AND negative) at that time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What about the people who have set IOs, Hami's, or purples in the APPs and PPPs? Are we just going to lose them like when Gausens chance fo Build Up got deleated?

What I'd like some clarity on is a statement by Castle where he says the powers will be just like they were in PVE, and in PVP enabled zones they will have a nerfed performance.

My question is if a given power that only buffs me gets a PVP nerf, does that mean when I go to a PVP Zone for PVE reasons (Shivans, Nukes, RV prestige hunting) that my powers are similarly nerfed?

This might be a serious issue with some folks who love their APPs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd love to make such a statement for you, but it'd be a lie. The changes for APPs/PPPs are more widespread.

The basic tack we took was "if the power is not being taken by the players, replace it with something that is." So, a number of formerly heroside only powers are now available on villainside, and a number of powers have been replaced by something we feel will be more useful in general.

I'll be very interested in seeing the reactions to the new lists in Beta.

As for the PVP zones, yes, doing PVE content there will be harder.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How on earth will that work for the people that took the powers you are taking out and like them?
  22. At first I was pissed then I checked the date.

    lol devs nice one.
  23. I would like to see a 4 claw option. Looks just like the 3 claws we have now only add one =).
