How come we have no red servers yet???

They need something to do to make them feel better?
They are getting back at me for stealing their pie?
I have played CoH since launch day, and I have two lvl 50's lvls 38, 35, 33 and 16, I have deleted 4 lvl 20-25's. I am finding COH very boring, I can only do the same stuff so many times, which is why I'm glad CoV came along. I will not be logging on to CoH until there is more stuff to do.
And with the bundle some will cry Doom as XXXX is still selling at full price, and NCSoft was forced to do this.
Wether the bundle is for next summer (for School vacations) or the next Holiday season, I know its coming in the next year or so, and I know it will bring more players in.
Its just marketing and retail strategy.
Ergo its a good thing, for those of us still here.
I'm paid up until March 06, and will be renewing the two accounts for the full year at that time. If could do so I'd pay that bill NOW as a vote of confidence in both Cryptic for the development and NCSoft for the infrastructure (server uptime etc).

So... we're getting a refund for time that we could theoretically be playing, but can't due to server outage, right?

Well if you care to up that to suicidal, jump into the scummy waters of PvP General. It's us griefers vs them carebears in an epic battle of indifference vs indignation.
Btw, on topic - I re-signed up because of CoV and the prospect of PvP. I am playing right now mostly due to the Siren's Call beta event.
If you ever do things again, I strongly, strongly advise more events like that one to show-off new features. I know from your standpoint those are more stress tests and the like, but at least from where I'm sitting, that was a fantastic marketting tool even through all the lag.

Wal-Mart's prices aren't "retail" prices. That's actually Wal-Mart's biggest selling point and the reason it's so controversal with small stores and other chains that don't have the means to sell things so cheap. But Wal-Mart has been smart to set prices so low that people actually end up buying more from them in the longrun.
Any other store, Best Buy, EB Games, Software Etc., CompUSA sells it for 29.99. I know because I was out looking for the DVD edition and only found the standard edition for 30 bucks.
Think of it this way: Best Buy has been known to sell CDs for 9.99 a lot as a draw to get customers into their store. While there, they hope the customer buys enough to offset the discounted prices. But that does not mean that the CD's retail price is now 9.99 because Best Buy sells it at that price. The Manufacturer's price will still be the same 16.99-19.99 CDs are priced at today.
Wal-Mart does this a lot with their video games, too, because to a lot of people Wal-Mart is their video game store. Look at their newspaper ads this week. They are selling Tony Hawk's Underground 2 for 19.99. That's not it's retail price, that's Wal-Mart's discounted price.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh I agree Taser, that is what Wal-Mart does... Once upon a time I was in Wal-Mart Management... But to toss around what is essentially MSRP as gospel of what the game is selling at and then totally ignore the dicount retailers, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, etc etc is not being completely honest. I know for a fact that CoH still holds modular space in every Wal-Mart in the country... That is EXTREMELY significant.
I would be curious to see a tally of units sold from different retailers. I'd be willing to wager that the discounters like Wal-mart are the lion's share of sales in the past few months.
If they don't fall behind with graphics and software updates like poor old NWN did, there's theoretically no limit as ta how long this sucker can go.
NWN only took a hit once the flashier online games totally blew its graphics outta the water. Conceptually and gameplay wise, that game's still one of my faves.
There SHOULD be a blood option in CoH, though. Maybe throw a parental passworded lock on it like NWN did.
Be fun ta get sprayed with rancid black blood when ya whack open an Abomination.

Eventually all games get marked down to 19.99 or lower by stores so they can make new shelf room for newer games. Which is why we'll probably see a CoH+CoV bundle sometime next year to give them both new release shelf time, like the CoH Special Edition did for CoH.
(Just to point out: that doesn't mean the "retail" price for the game has changed)
[/ QUOTE ]
This is incorrect in the case of Wal-Mart... Wal-Mart currently sells CoH for $19.96. It is what is called a modular replenishable item, meaning that if it runs out, more are ordered for the space. This is not a clearance item. Wal-Mart is not attempting to make shelf space.
But there is still a major difference between Statesman saying that the retail price of CoH is 30 bucks and Wal-Mart selling it for 19.96, because the price that Wal-Mart is selling it at isn't retail.
Just pointing out that Statesman isn't overlooking Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart's prices just follow a different set of rules than a store like EB Games or Software Etc where the game is still 30 bucks new. Actually, I'm surprised Best Buy still sells their copies for 30 bucks, too, since they usually go the Wal-Mart root of lowering prices.

Personally, I think the majority of new CoH accounts in the past 6 months have been from free trials. I know I have two people I've given free trials to that have stayed since as far back as Valentine's Day. And I also know that when I went to pick up my CoV, the Best Buy at the mall was giving out CoH Bootleg discs that I picked up.
But there is no difference between someone who uses a free trial, likes the game, and sticks with it for me as compared to someone who buys the game. My friend who used my Valentine's Day trial has been one of the most determined casual players I've ever seen.

Here is the thing. Don't wait more then ten minutes with your lfg on. Use find member to find people your level in teams and then send them a tell. Don't wait. Also make sure it is on. It never occurs to most people spamming lft in broadcast that it never gets them a team and a they have to click team and make sure the arrow is at the right course.
Also no matter what in issue 2 and so on it often takes up to 30 minutes and about 100 tells to get a team for it. Longest ever amount waiting was for the shard tfs.
If I cannot get a trial or tf in 30 minutes I go do something else.
People teams don't come looking for you if you are lfg. They know to go for people not in teams and send them a tell.
Most people who solo don't mind teaming but guess what they don't flag themselves as looking for team.

Because in order for their cries of Dooooommm!!! over the various nerf's that have happened, to be valid. CoH has to be losing a large number of players constantly. If that isn't happening, or worse for them, CoH's numbers are growing... That means their cries of Doom, are false, and all the nerf's are in fact not killing the game.
It's very hard to argue that a given nerf shouldn't happen because it will drive people away, when consdering all the past nerfs, hasn't caused that to happen... Worse that CoH is growing, dispite the nerfs.

Funny, I used to never have to wait 10 minutes. I'd turn the team on, and within 2-5 minutes I was snagged. Now, I can finish a mission and still no one snags (if I'm lucky now, it takes me an hour to finish a mission). People on the find member list are either too high or too low (by more than 10 lvls).

Hm Statesman doesn't shop at Walmart. They must be paying him too much. Maybe he should take a pay cut so our subscription rates could go down. <= that was just a pre-emptive crabby comment.
Actually I am glad to think Statesman doesn't shop at Walmart and that he doesn't make the rounds of retailers keeping records of how much CoH is selling for. No doubt he was telling us the manufacturer's recommended retail price.
This just shows how his words get twisted whenever he says anything in the forums -- hence his comment "I'm feeling masochistic today."
I remember Statesman being a bit squeamish about having to run free trials anyhow.

There's also more people on the planet every day. You fail to make a valid point. Paragon City has turned into a "ghost town" in many aspects.
The game does seem like a ghost town now that everyone is split between CoH and CoV, plus the little add in hazard zones which occasionally see use.
I know that the server population bars don't show the same number of dots as they once did. Freedom used to be packed full, now it's rare to see another hero anywhere aside from a train station, gate, or a store in a zone.
I don't even recall the last time someone got into an arguement with me over KS'ing. That was at one point fairly commonplace.

So why is it that around launch we heard "Official" numbers in the 100k+ as high as 180K at one point that I recall. Since the third month after launch and forward you guys have been very mum about those numbers.
Pre CoV as in say Friday before launch, and not counting free trials or any kind...
How Many Subscribers Were There?
And I'm talking active accounts.
Accounts that were paid for by the year and have sat unused for 5 months don't count, nor do accounts still active but whose billing was canceled or NCSoft account was deactivated (This would be to get the most accurate number while still weeding out those who cancelled/deactivated as a result of ED or other changes)
How Many? Official Numbers. From The Jack's mouth How many subscribers with active accounts with billing still active and that have been accessed in the last 90 days as of Friday before CoV. Again not counting free trials.
Hey if possible can you figure out how many accounts have more than one active in use CoH account and just mark that account as counting as one? Weed out dual+ boxers.

He doesn't need to. You can find out your server population at any given time just by typing /search in the chat window.
Server population prior to ED was approximately 1600 on the popular servers like Freedom and Virtue down to a low of 1100 or so on Triumph. This was mid-evening numbers.
You'll find a 40-50% increase on the numbers right now. Don't trust us, just check it yourself.

You should apply for a position at a fortune 500 company Armsman, since you can make such amazing deductions with anecdotal numbers and such.
I'm not sure why some people get so much glee from being doomsayers.
From SirBruce (keep in mind he is working with March 2005 numbers here)
"Launched in April of 2004, City of Heroes is proof that a well-executed MMOG can still garner substantial numbers even in the current competitive climate. Although CoH quickly reached over 180,000 subscribers, it dropped sharply towards the end of 2004, only to recover again the following year thanks primarily to a European launch. As of March 2005 the number of subscribers worldwide was 140,481."
Fantasy RPGs still take up 85.1% of the market according to SirBruce, and Lineage II (an NCsoft game) still had more subscribers than Warld of Warcraft.
